The End Is…Coming Soon!
Matt: Hello, this is the Payload, and I am REALLY running late. So let's get down to it.
Nick: Oh, hello there. I'm about to get out of here and get some food, so I'll make this quick.
Matt: 2 Ideas only, but then everyone's probably suffering PPV Burn Out. First off, Matt Eli
Paul London and Brian Kendrick are defending the WWE Tag Team Championship against William Regal and Dave Taylor. The Blue Bloods have been controlling this feud, picking up non-title and singles victories over the Champions every time they've stepped in the ring together. Earlier in the PPV, we see Paul London standing outside a dressing room labeled "Ashley Massaro, Brian Kendrick, Paul London". The cameraman is greeted at the door by Paul London, who says "Hey Steve, I'm glad you could make it", he welcomes the cameraman into the locker-room, and goes up to Brian Kendrick and shoves him into the wall, and rips the brush Ashley is using out of her hands.
Paul London proceeds to cut a promo where he reminds us how he lost the WWE Tag Team Championship the original time he held it. His partner's mind wasn't in the zone. He says that he refuses to go into battle tonight if he doesn't have 110% from Brian Kendrick. Spanky says he's got London's back. Paul slaps Brian across the face, and Ashley is asking him why he's doing it, etc. London asks Kendrick again if he's got his back. Kendrick says of course he does, and he tells Paul that he wants to be WWE Tag Team Champions as much as he does. Paul then asks Brian if he'd still have his back if he knew he were banging Ashley. Brian looks a little shaken up by this, and Ashley is upset, but Brian Kendrick simply tells Paul London that they're best friends, a better tag team and best WWE Tag Team Champions of all-time. London then makes Kendrick promise the audience that they are going to retain their Championship tonight. Brian Kendrick looks directly at the camera and makes that very promise.
The Blue Bloods are interviewed by Kristal Marshall prior to their match. Kristal asks them what they think of London and Kendrick's guarantee that they will walk out WWE Tag Team Champions. William Regal tells Kristal Marshall that they have been defied before, but they have never been denied. It doesn't matter what promises Paul London and Brian Kendrick make, there is no force on earth that can stop William Regal and Dave Taylor from winning the WWE Tag Team Titles tonight. There just isn't a tag team good enough.
William Regal and Dave Taylor make their way to the ring. Once in the ring, they get their own special introduction by Tony Chimmel. Paul London and Brian Kendrick then get their own introduction, putting over how they were trained by Shawn Michaels, and how Paul London is a former WWE Cruiserweight Champion. They make their way to the ring, and Paul London demands to start off against William Regal. We see the usual tag team stuff between the two technically gifted units, but eventually Paul London finds himself beaten-down, and isolated. London eventually battles back, but refuses to tag in Brian Kendrick for some reason. JBL points out that is stupid, and London can feel their reign coming to an end, like a lot of Champions can, and he's making mistakes in being determined not to make mistakes. Layfield tells us that he's seen it ruin a lot of great Champions.
Eventually, Brian Kendrick gets fed-up, and slingshots into the match, opening up on both heel challengers. The referee tells him to get out of the ring, but Kendrick continues, and he eventually gets disqualified. The challengers pick up the win, but the Champions retain (I know Mr. Csonka won't like that one). William Regal and Dave Taylor attack London and Kendrick from behind as they are presented the Championship belts in the ring, and we see a heel beat-down. Ashley just freaks at ringside. Eventually Paul London gets away (most of the heels' attention goes towards Brian Kendrick, as he was the one disqualified, costing them the titles, plus London was already a wreck). He gets a steel chair, folds it up, and then re-enters the ring and cracks it over the skull of both William Regal and Dave Taylor. Paul London then pulls off some innovative offensive maneuvers on the Blue Bloods, utilizing the chair. Regal and Taylor eventually bail, and Paul London and Brian Kendrick look at each other, and then raise each other's arms. Ashley hugs Paul London when he gets out of the ring.
The whole point of this is to build to a more intense match between the four men heading into the Royal Rumble, or even No Way Out. Dave Taylor could sell London's beat-down, and take more time off to rest. London and Kendrick can also realize how much they want to be WWE Tag Team Champions coming out of this, and find a more nuanced level of respect for each other.
To top it off, have Paul London approach Brian Kendrick sometime after their match on the PPV, and apologize for sleeping with Ashley. Just have Brian Kendrick respond with "Dude, it's OK. I'm sleeping with her, too." to which Paul can respond with "Sweet!", sealing the deal with a high-five.
Matt: Well, it's different, and gives them air time, so generally I approve. But the whole "Ashley is a Slut" deal is a slight problem given the fact that she's to be in Playboy (again) soonish. I'm not sure it's the best idea to have your Playboy star seen to be sleeping with 2 different guys, even if they are buddies and both good looking.
Nick: Meh. In a perfect world they just ignore any of this even started and move on.
Matt: Next, and finally Wesley Rice wants to push Kane. I like it already…
At Armageddon Kane defeats MVP in the Inferno Match. Later on in the show Batista and John Cena defeat King Booker and Finlay. After the match Cena leaves the ring to let Batista celebrate the victory, but then the lights go off and then Kane's pyro goes off. The lights come back on and Kane is standing in the ring, he jumps Batista from behind and then busts him open. He then drags him outside the ring and chokeslams him through the announce table, he grabs the title and stares at it before dropping it on Batista. The next few weeks on Smackdown Batista calls out Kane but Kane stays away. A week before the Royal Rumble Teddy Long tells Batista that Kane is there but they can not touch each other until Royal Rumble. Batista agrees but says he wants Kane in a Last Man Standing at Royal Rumble. Later there is a contract signing which they both sign then Kane does his pyro in the ring and then leaves while Batista looks on. At the Royal Rumble Batista defeats Kane to make him look stronger going into his rumored match with Undertaker at Wrestlemania 23.
Matt: Well, if they do go that way, a Kane tweener turn is the logical way to do it, since that would create an impetus to have DAVE/Taker leading out of it. And it's certainly something I half expect WWE to do.
Nick: They're already doing the "can't touch each other" thing with Cena and Umaga right now. Other than that, I like Kane as a short term challenger for the big title, so I'm for it.
Matt: And that's it, so straight on to our ideas.
See, I really dislike a Taker/DAVE match. So, I'd go with something else.
In the Main Event Tag Match, Cena and Batista work well, overpowering the King and the Irishman, and isolate him and so forth. Eventually though, Cena gets caught in the wrong corner and plays Face In Peril for a bit. Then he makes the tag, mass confusion abounds as Dave takes everyone out. Then out comes the Little Bastard, and oddly tries to enter the ring. The ref sees him and stops him, and as the ref deals with him, and Dave and Booker brawl in one corner, the new Tag Team Champs Regal and Taylor run out after Finlay calls them, and then run out, 3 on 1 beat down on Cena, before blinding him with something (the shillelagh across the eyes, hot tea, warm beer, something). Cena then somehow fights back, and then promptly FU's Batista as he runs over to check on him. Cena is dragged out of the ring as Finlay gets the pin.
Cena and DAVE make up, as Cena apologizes, then asks for a favor of his own. He has to fight Umaga at NYR, and since he now has Monty Brown in his corner, he needs someone he can trust in his corner to even the odds. Everyone on Raw wants his belt; he needs someone with no real desire to see him lose the belt. Dave is A-OK with this, and Batista is in Cena's corner at NYR.
One misplaced belt shot later, and Umaga beats Cena for the title.
Cena appears to be calm, although his total focused and angry ass kicking of Eugene to get into the Rumble belays this calm projection. DAVE, on the other hand, is focused now on defending his title at the Rumble against Finlay, leader of the ‘Commonwealth'.
At the Rumble, Cena runs out and ‘accidentally' costs DAVE the match and the title. In the Rumble itself, Batista enters, beating up Rene Dupree to take his spot, and Cena and Batista eliminate each other as the match is won by, Taker.
This then leads to DAVE/Cena as the main selling point of WM, although really, it sells regardless, and Taker/Finlay and say HBK/HHH/Umaga and Lashley/Punk as the title matches.
Nick: In the spirit of keeping it short, I'll say that the Cruiserweight title match at Armageddon leads to a Cruiserweight renaissance.
Matt: Short and sharp this week, huh?
Nick: Yeah.
Matt: Now, Homework.
"Celebrities Like Raw"? Please. There has to be a better way to use celebrity involvement in the WWE, especially in the lead up to WM, right? How would you do it? Or, if you want something more specific, book Cena/Federline.
