The 10th Day News Report for 3.28.07

MAILBAG

I liked William's idea of edge winning mitb, then beating taker after he beats batista. you're right that there wouldn't be any build-up, but it would still be better IMO than edge not winning the MITB match, and them continuing to say he has a win streak going just because he was never pinned. that would weaken his win streak, in my opinion. I was hoping super crazy would win the battle royal Monday night to take edge out (and edge would cost orton the match at WM). this would keep edge's win streak in tact, and puts super crazy in a ladder match. he's super, AND he's crazy.......he's SUPER CRAZY!!!! and one of my favorite cruiserweights. as little hope as I have left for CW wrestling (or womens wrestling), whenever they drag super-crazy out and make it seem like they're gonna use him, i get excited again. then 2 weeks later, he's gone.

(watching ECW right now, the beginning with the raw recap)

Did lawler really just say that masters didnt expect lasley for the masterlock challenge? dude, it was on the preview, everyone knew! come onnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"In my mind, Edge is the odds on favorite to win the money in the bank match. "

really? Edge? Again? My money is on kennedy. the hardys wont win it (global warming means hell aint freezing over anytime soon). Booker and Finlay wont win it. Punk isnt ready for the jump to raw yet (notice how I ignore the ECW title altogether). Edge and orton cancel each other out, building their feud, leaving us with Mr. Kennedy - the only person out of this group ready to jump to main event within the next year.

"It was reported that WWE did drug testing of over two dozen talents at the Smackdown and ECW tapings last night. It's very possible this was done as a response to the article, but WWE never announces when the tests will take place. "

Let's be honest - odds are they did it because of the article getting picked up by the AP, but who really cares why they did it? the fact that they're testing is at least a good thing.

"rob van dam, from any angle, any position, just finds a way to plant his feet in his opponent's face" --Joey Styles

and now we know why snitsky is in ECW.

ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww....i think my soul just threw up a bit.

im tired of guys fixing spots. last week, monty brown threw himself over the top rope, this week, rvd straddled himself on the top rope for the clothesline. improvise guys, improvise.

apparently the pounce has been renamed the cross body block......................................................................................................................................................then again, benoit tapped out to the stfu this week....ANYTHING can happen in the WWE!

so im 99% certain that Dusty Rhodes reads my fantasy picks for the week and schedules ECW so that i dont get points. My team name is KitH (Koalas in the Hood, my old vball team name), and my theory is, he thinks im making fun of the way he talks. "Duthty Rhodes is gonna make you kith hith ath"...admit it, you can hear him saying that in your head.

whoa, burke is wrestling tonight, so maybe Dusty doesnt hate me (we'll see who wins).

ya know, I wish the AP article wouldve left eddie out. its already been established that his history of abuse contributed to his death - why rub it in?

"One body, two dicks" --commercial for the dresden files on SciFi......just had to share.

Wow, burke won. sweet.

here are my picks for week 9 of fantasy:

lashley - is there anyone on any brand that can stop this man? ive been picking him every week, _usually_ pays off, such as this week.

masters - figured umaga would interfere in the masterlock challenge, and that old rule of "He didn't break it, masters just let go, therefore he won" would come into play, and masters would get massive points. he didnt. maybe they're getting ready to fire him? And did you say "holy sh!t!" when lashley broke it? yeah, didnt think so. me neither.

CM Punk - I really have no idea why i picked him, other than maybe his storyline with the new breed, thinking he'd have a match this week, and win, which he did. cool.

Burke - he used to be my pick from the new breed, but then i picked him, and he didnt wrestle, so i was kinda screwed. this week i had some money left, figured he'd want revenge for last week, and he did. What ever happened to mahoney?

Cena - been picking him and michaels for a while now. they're champs, and unstoppable as the raw main event.

melina - figured she'd have another match going into WM.

rvd - really no clue on this one. figured out of the originals, he's the one they'll want to push, but still, quite a gamble at 4.0. and it didnt pay off. thats 4 ECW guys this week. more than i normally have.

HBK - see cena.

I've already got my wrestlemania picks done. pretty straight-forward given the matches, but I did roll the dice a few times.
-Manu Bumb

The rumor floated awhile back was that they were going to give Super Crazy a comedy push based on him being super, crazy and super crazy. It's odd, because he was obviously getting over when they used him and then they just stopped. He went from being a rising midcarder to just being another body again without any real reason.

I don't think they would have Edge lose the Money in the Bank match and still claim him as being undefeated. By that logic then his Money in the Bank win a few years ago shouldn't count as a win. I also don't think they will job him, because they have to realize that the real money in the bank is a streak vs. streak match with the Undertaker. It's still real possible for Orton and Edge to be pulled out of the match, but feuding with Orton would be a good excuse for Edge not cashing in his title shot right away. You might remember that last time he won they kept putting obstacles in his way so he had reasons for not cashing in his match. I agree that Ken Kennedy should win, but I still have to back Edge.

I thought it was odd that JR and Lawler both acted like Lashley was a surprise entrant when the match had been announced online. All the time they comment on things that were announced only online or through WWE's message service.

I don't have any problem with a guy trying to fix a spot that didn't work out. I think that actually shows that they are thinking on their feet and doing their best to make the match work. Would it look better for Van Dam or Cor Von to just stand there and do nothing? What I don't like is when they screw up a spot and then try to repeat it to get it right. That's not improvising or rolling with the flow.

I am fluent in Dusty-ese. I've steered away from the ECW guys a bit, but most of the New Breed guys have been great values this season in the fantasy manager game.

Eddie Guerrero was a name involved in the drug scandal, so I have no problem with him being mentioned. Factual reporting doesn't mean sympathetic reporting. None of the articles I read said anything negative about Guerrero, it simply stated that he had passed away most likely due to complications of his long drug and alcohol abuse. It was the catalyst for WWE to really crack down on performance enhancing drugs and if there is anything positive about Eddie's death that is it.

-Smackdown last Friday scored a 3.0 overall rating. That's down a bit from recent weeks and not good heading into Wrestlemania. It's still kicking Veronica Mars' boney ass though. RAW was up from a 3.7 to a 3.9, but is still seen as being disappointing. Credit: PWInsider.com

I figured they would be added to Wrestlemania in a filler match with Kendrick and London. I say team Nitro up with Chris Masters, since he needs a reboot after the Masterlock Challenge being over. Maven and Chris Jericho will be on hand between 1 pm and 3 pm on April 7th. LAX will then show up after that and dump some fresh fruit down Johnny Rodz's pants. ECW THOUGHTS

-"House" ran long due to that stupid "American Idol," so I was late turning on ECW. The show starts with Elijah Burke vs. RVD in a Captain's match of their Wrestlemania teams. I can only hope they drag this out to Survivor Series for a WarGames match, maybe even at One Night Stand. Van Dam wins and the rival factions square off. I dig Ariel a little more every time I see her.

-The slunts dance to some generic techno groove in a ring filled with smoke. It's like a movie version of a strip club when they're shooting for a PG-13 rating.

-Edge talks with his teammates for the money in the bank eight man tag tonight. Edge gives a brilliant rallying speech to convince Punk and the Hardys to listen to him even though they don't like him. I think it was JD Dunn here on 411 that said that Edge should be called the cerebral assassin and I would agree with that.

-Balls Mahoney crawls out from under a rock to job to Snitsky. Wasn't he a member of the ECW Originals for like two minutes? That would be a good angle where Balls joins the New Breed because the Original left him out to dry. But that would mean that the New Breed would actually want Balls. I like typing Balls.

-Finlay and Booker T find Kennedy and Orton trading muffin recipes. That's good continuity from Orton and Kennedy teaming up last week on Smackdown.

-Vince McMahon and Bobby Lashley face off via satellite. McMahon basically runs off at the mouth about how great he is while Lashley is a wax figure. "You can count your lucky stars or your lucky charms or whatever the hell you count." What is he black Irish? Lashley finally retorts by calling Vince a "son of a bitch" and a "bastard." Swearing to get yourself over is like a karate master that needs a gun.

-Everybody gets their entrance for the main event, which kills time until another commercial break. I love how Edge totally teases the spear on Booker T and then tags CM Punk. Edge takes off and this allows Booker T to steal the win for his team. Everyone then brawls. In wrestling there is always a ladder when you need one. Matt and Jeff wind up staring down at the top of the ladder while CM Punk picks up litter around ringside.

WWE FANTASY MANAGER

Week 9 Team
Bobby Lashley: 84 points-1st
Chris Masters: 29 points-5th
John Cena: 26 points-7th
Elijah Burke: 21 points-14th
MVP: 15 points-22nd
Shawn Michaels: 10 points-37th
The Great Khali: 4 points-47th
Kane: 3 points-48th
Hornswaggle: 0 points
Week Total: 192 points
Grand Total: 2321 points
World Rank: 118th

Synopsis: Lashley had one of his usual monster weeks. Masters, Burke and Cena came through ok. Once again, MVP under performs. Then I had some expensive clunkers in Michaels and Kane. That really hurts me as I've come to the conclusion that you can only have one bad pick a week and stay competitive. I'm pretty much out of the running I think, but I hope a strong Wrestlemania week may help leap me up to something more respectable. If you're in Wrestlemania you're going to be all over television this week. It just comes down to picking the right people to go over on the ppv.

Undertaker ($5 million): There are three sure things in life: death, taxes and Undertaker doesn't lose at Wrestlemania.

John Cena ($5 million): Michaels is on the other side of the mountain and Cena is the new Hogan. He just goes over everybody. I think it just works for Cena to retain.

Edge ($4 million): A lot of people are picking Ken Kennedy to win the money in the bank ladder match, but I seriously don't think they want Edge to lose his win streak at Wrestlemania.

Bobby Lashley ($5 million): There is no way that Donald Trump loses this match and gets his head shaved. It's not happening.

MVP ($3 million): I think there has to be a heel upset somewhere and this is the best place for it to happen. Benoit is bulletproof and is entering the stage of his career where he's used to get younger guys over. MVP was a joke for awhile, but they seem committed to him now. Not a lot of people are going for Porter, so if he pulls through for me it's a good thing.

Ashley ($1.5 million): They Playboy cover girl is getting the huge push and should go over. However, her team winning on RAW doesn't make me feel good about this. You can argue that the Women's belt is a RAW title, but doe it really matter?

The Great Khali ($2.5 million): I honestly think that Kane will win the match, but Khali is a lot cheaper. I could see Khali getting the win by DQ or winning and having Kane go crazy after. Khali came through for me huge twice and was the guy that really put me in contention for awhile, so I'm hoping he comes through again for me.

Elijah Burke ($2 million): I'm thinking the New Breed go over and Burke as their leader should look strong. I hope he scores the pinfall victory.

Teddy Long ($1 million): He was the best pick for a mil. He's not going to wrestle, but he will be all over television. I tried to do the math a hundred different ways and I just kept winding up with under $2 million left and there's not much you can do with that.
