Impact, Smackdown and Ring of Honor taping rundowns, ECW overview, EWR on 411, Antonio Inoki in TNA, what NWA will do after TNA, WWE releases two big names (ok, one just has big in his name) and earth shattering Kamala booking news (I'm being kinda of sarcastic on that last one)
MAILBAG
On Punk's loss. So he lost, big deal, they are making a feud. The man he is feuding with helped make him lose, and he lost to Monty Brown, not a complete jobber. Get off Punk's nuts, every time he loses doesn't mean someone is mad at him, let wrestling play out for christ's sake.
How can you take a jacknife powerbomb on your face, and how the heck is that impressive, it sounds stupid and botched.
-Chris
Maybe there is a proper name for the move as executed, but I didn't know it off the top of my head. To me it looked like Kevin Nash's old jackknife powerbomb, but when Lexi Lane was picked up she was face down instead of face up and therefore when released took the bump on her face and not her back. For a young, attractive woman about five feet tall and a 110 pounds to take such a bump at a small indy fed show was impressive to me. Maybe it wouldn't be as impressive to you or as impressive to me, if say, Mickie James took a similar bump on RAW given the circumstances.
You might remember toward the end of last year between the end of the Mike Knox feud and him being put into the Money in the Bank ladder match at Wrestlemania that CM Punk seemed to have been depushed a little bit. He wasn't getting a lot of face time and lost some matches pretty cleanly. The joke going around was that he must have made somebody mad, which often happens in WWE when someone's push goes cold. Johnny Nitro can be a recent example if gossip is to be believed. I said in the column a few weeks ago when asked about Punk that I really liked him and just felt that he hasn't been able to fully live up to his potential yet in WWE. A high profile match between Punk and Burke at the next ppv I hope will be good for both to break out. Personally, I would want both men to look strong going into the match and Cor Von losing to Punk would have continued the storyline from last week of the New Breed falling apart and Thorn losing to Punk after Burke threw him into a match with him.

NEWS AND NOTES
-Vince McMahon opens the show. He first pimps the head wrap and then asks Lashley if he thinks he likes wearing it. Actually, I think he does. Vince books Lashley in a three on one match tonight as a primer for Sunday. Vince calls himself the judge, Shane the jury and Umaga is executioner in a pretty good line.
-Rob Van Dam kicks off the show with Snitsky. They should have made Sabu job to Snitsky on his way out the door to put him over more. Snitsky is disqualified after hitting RVD with a chair on the outside. DQ finishes in ECW still doesn't sit well with me. If you're not going to put Snitsky over Van Dam cleanly to keep his storyline and character going, then book him against someone else.
-CM Punk with his ribs taped squares off with Stevie Richards for about the sixtieth time. The crowd is pretty quiet, because they don't know who to cheer for. Well, maybe they just don't want to cheer for Richards. Punk is playing plucky face in peril, but I think the sudden turns have killed his heat. Punk's motivations haven't been explored, nor his personality shift. I like the twist of having Punk joining the New Breed and then tearing them apart from the inside, but the execution leaves the fans scratching their heads. Richards goes to sleep for the loss. It looked sloppy, but I think Punk was trying to sell the ribs.
-Burke checks with Striker and Cor Von to see if they are ready for the match with Lashley. He then works in a promo for his ppv match with Punk.
-Kevin Thorn seems to be back where he started from. He jobs out Nunzio for the sake of jobbing him out. Guido and Richards on the same program and yet Sabu is out of a job.
-The slunts grind to "Sexyback." I can't believe it took them this long to get to that one. The only time suspenders are sexy are when they are on a hot girl with fake breasts. What happened to Snitsky wanting to get freaky with their feet from a few weeks back? Don't tell me they realized that wasn't the best way to go with him.
-Lashley cuts a backstage promo that gets a what chant from the crowd. That's not a good sign for the guy you want as the next Hogan.
-Lashley takes on Cor Von, Striker and Burke in the main event. Lashley vs. Cor Von could be a hot program. Lashley spears Striker for the win.
EWR ON 411
Cathereine and Elvis Foley sent some good feedback this week and I haven't heard from them in awhile, so I wanted to give a shout out.
In a very WCW move I realized that I gave out my potential booking for Bad Blood last week when we had a RAW title match and number one contenders match booked. I often make notes to myself on potential booking for the next pay per view so I can properly build to it. Of course, booking can change depending on reader votes. However, let's see if we can't spin things.
Smackdown for 5.17.07
Colt Cabana sits in on commentary as Brock Lesnar and Batista face the Shooting Stars. He talks up Batista as a great wrestler. Michael Cole asks him about Brock Lesnar. He's ok. Cabana isn't too happy with the outcome to the match. Brock gets a microphone. He's been pretty quiet through this whole thing. He's let Cabana and Batista work out their own issues. However, Cabana has drug his name into it. If Cabana has a beef with him, then come to him. Don't talk about him behind his back. Cabana gets up from the table. Brock plays hero tonight in the tag match and thinks that counts for something. He's always been there for Batista and he's going to prove himself the better partner this week on Velocity. That will be his statement to Brock.

Triple H fronts Evolution in the back with Gene Okerlund. Tonight, The Backseat Boys are going to prove that they are the greatest tag team in WWE today and possibly ever by going against the World Champion Paul Burchill and the US Champion CM Punk. Kahsmere and Acid are going to knock them down and bring them to earth. From there it will be a mere formality to take those titles. Triple H was interviewed for the recently out Four Horsemen DVD. They had all the titles and they dominated. Today, the Four Horsemen have undergone Evolution.

Jericho thinks to go get him, but decides it's better to just take the count out. (from Mathew)

Punk and Burchill with their women are with Gene Okerlund. Punk heard Triple H talking big, but they have the gold and the girls. They bring it in and out of the ring. If anyone today is like the Horsemen. It's them. They're good enough for four guys. Burchill doesn't want to toot his own horn, but he was trained by a former Horsemen in Chris Benoit. One thing he taught him is that you can talk all you want, but you have to bring it in the ring to back it up. So let's see if Evolution can do that tonight.

Al Snow misses a shot with Head on Raven as he sidesteps. Rhyno gores him through a previous set up table. Raven nails Rhyno from behind with a chair. Evenflow on the chair. AJ Styles takes the ring. He heard what Rey Mysterio said about him a few weeks ago and it got him thinking. Styles used to be World Champion and since he lost the belt and joined the Million Dollar Corporation it all went downhill. Rey has adapted the right attitude. He needs to refocus and take that belt back. And when he refocused he realized that the biggest wart on his life right now was Steve Austin. Austin is a fat, washed up drunk who most disgustingly of all seems happy to be so. Watch tonight Austin and remember what you were fifteen years ago.
Segment Rating: 73%
Styles suplexes Randy Orton and makes the cocky cover by sitting on him. Orton brings his legs up and reverses the pin. Styles comes up with a low blow that the referee misses. Styles Clash. Styles then mocks Orton and waits for him to stand so he can hit the RKO. Styles covers. (from Mathew)

Punk and Burchill don't have a lot of tag experience between them. This allows the Backseat Boys to isolate and work over Punk. Punk ducks a clothesline from Acid and nails a flying forearm. He crawls for the tag. Acid tags Kashmere first. He runs in and grabs Punk by the leg as he's inches from making the tag. Punk comes off his other foot with an enzuigiri. Hot tag to Burchill. He cleans house. Chris Cage runs in and takes a C4. Triple H gets on the apron, but Buchill glowers at him and he backs down. Mysterio and Jericho then finally run in for the DQ. Everyone brawls. Colt Cabana tells Batista that he can't believe the nerve of Brock Lesnar on Friday. Batista can't believe Colt's nerve. He's about ready to say to hell with both of them. Cabana tells him that he needs a partner. Batista never needed anyone before and he doesn't need anybody now. He believes that a little more each day and he's going to have to work hard to change his mind.
Segment Rating: 66%
Cabana is focused and does well against Maven and Jimmy Snuka. Shannon Moore is in with the Shannon Moore midget. Moore fights for once, but the midget is game. Jake Roberts' music hits and a midget Jake comes out of the back. Moore is surprised. The midget gets into the ring and jumps off the back of midget Moore so he can collar the real Moore and DDT him. The midget Moore covers. The real Jake makes the ref count the pin. Midget Jake puts a garter snake on him. Jake gets in Moore's face. He's tired of trying to coach him. He's long gone. The only thing he can do now is thoroughly destroy him and build him back up as a real man. The humiliations will continue until there is nothing left. (thanks to Elvis Foley for giving me an actual direction with this angle)

Chavo tells Styles that if he would have paid attention and hung around with them a bit he would have learned some Japanese by now. Tajiri challenged him to a match next week. He's on.

Gene Okerlund has Fred Curry in the back. That was an impressive win by Shane Helms just now. However, Helms claims he's a great wrestler when he's just out to hurt people. He learned from his father that a real wrestler combines heart with scientific skill to be the best he can be. Helms comes to the back. Curry's father is a never was has been. You have to be willing to do whatever you have to win in this business and that's why Curry Sr. didn't amount to jack squat and why his son will be right there with him.

Hall and Dawn Marie are topless already. Hall pants Dawn Marie, but then Stacy sneaks in behind and pants her. Jamie Satin runs in on Stacy. She still has a thing for her and starts rubbing and grinding on her. Stacy acts like she's into it and Jamie actually winds up stripping herself. She fights with the referee when he tries to push her out. Medusa clocks Stacy from behind and rips her shirt off. She goes for the pants, but Stacy manages to wiggle free and tag Michelle Money.
