You said " It's hard to have a bad War Games though. ****"
Oh yeah?..ever see the one with the Ultimate Warrior magically appearing in a wisp of smoke in the ring? Then to vanish with Hogan holding his ring jacket?....MAJOR stinker of a match. BUT I did enjoy your review so much I'm buying the DVD today.
-Ron
I kind of forgot about that one and I can't thank you for reminding me. Let's just say it's hard to have a bad War Games, but when you factor in the ineptitude of WCW booking during the period it can be done. This is in response to my review of Ric Flair and the Four Horsemen DVD posted last Friday. The War Games match on the DVD is actually one of the lesser ones in my opinion too, but still awesome.
NEWS AND NOTES
-Saturday Night's Main Event taped with RAW on Monday. Below is a non-spoiler rundown
Chuck Palumbo over Tyson Duxx in a dark match. Like that was spoiled for you.
John Cena vs. the Great Khali, non-title
Vince McMahon vs. Bobby Lashley in an arm wrestling match
Edge and MVP vs. Chris Benoit and Batista
Finlay and Hornswaggle vs. Boogeyman and mini-Boogeyman
Extreme Expose dance
Kane, Eugene and Doink the Clown vs. Umaga, Viscera and Kevin Thorn
Various divas serve as ring announcer through the night

-After RAW went off the air Monday, Lashley turned on Cena to a big pop and then posed with the WWE title. They'll probably turn Lashley heel instead of Cena if they decide to do a program. It would work so much better the other way from a lot of standpoints. Credit: PWInsider.com
-Several new matches have been added to One Night Stand this week. It's basically looking like WCW Uncensored. The current card is:
John Cena vs. The Great Khali for the WWE Title in a falls cont anywhere, no submission match
Vince McMahon vs. Bobby Lashley for the ECW Title in a street fight
Edge vs. Batista for the World Heavyweight Title in a steel cage
The Hardy Boys vs. The World's Greatest Tag Team in a ladder match for the World Heavyweight Tag Team Titles
Melina vs. Candice Michelle in a pudding match
CM Punk, Tommy Dreamer and Sandman vs. Elijah Burke, Matt Striker and Marcus Cor Von in a tables match
Randy Orton vs. Rob Van Dam in a stretcher match

-WWE Magazine will be publishing a special championships issue soon. I hope it includes defunct titles and titles from companies absorbed by WWE like WCW and ECW. Credit: PWInsider.com
-Doors for the June 11th RAW in Wilkes Barre will open at 6:30 pm instead of 7:30 pm due to the show being three hours for the draft lottery. I wonder who will be drafting for ECW? Most likely they'll introduce someone at One Night Stand. I've got my fingers crossed for Stevie Richards. He was the unofficial GM of Heat you know? Then again, since everyone shows up on whatever brand they feel like anyway the lottery feels kind of redundant. They should either use this to redraw the lines or abolish them. Credit: PWInsider.com
-An Indian woman is claiming to be the aunt of John Cena. She states he is the son of her eldest sister who moved to America in the early eighties when Cena was four. According to his official bio, Cena was born in Massachusetts and his father is John Cena, Sr. who has had some pro wrestling involvement. Maybe she's related to the Great Khali and someone got their wires crossed. Maybe Khali will turn out to be Cena's brother and Stephanie McMahon can finally do one of her soap opera storylines. Seriously, though, if Cena were any whiter he'd be fronting for Procul Harem. Credit: timesofindia.com
-Smackdown last week scored a 2.4 rating. Before the tapings last night it was announced that Deuce and Domino would defend their tag titles against London and Kendrick and Taylor and Regal. Just call them the Bluebloods. What does WWE have against tag team names? Credit: PWInsider.com
-The former Ultimate Warrior was caught causing trouble at another sports convention last weekend. He lashed out at a fan verbally when he was told to hurry up with his autograph signing. Several weeks ago Warrior got into a verbal spat with the Iron Sheik at another sports figures convention and memorabilia show. Videos of both incidents are available on YouTube. Credit: YouTube.com
-Impact taping results. Everyone say yay!

Christian vs. Abyss in a king of the mountain qualifier
Xplosion
Ron Killings rap
Lance Hoyt vs. Havoc
Alex Shelley vs. Petey Williams
Senshei vs. Martyr
-As you see above, Ron Killings was at the tapings, but is not expected to return to the ring until late summer. He is recovering from a knee injury. Credit: PWInsider.com
-Morale is said to be very high in the TNA locker room after the tapings on Monday. Many feel it was the strongest set of tapings they've had with the Storm vs. Harris match getting very high marks. Credit: PWInsider.com
-Impact last week scored a 1.0 rating with the Ultimate Fighter following doing a bit better at 1.3. Credit: WrestlingObserver.com
-Christian Cage has signed a new deal with TNA. Money has not been revealed. It is said to be for two to three years. Credit: PWInsider.com
-A couple new matches have been added for the Ring of Honor show in Boston on June 8th. El Generico will face Matt Sydal and Rocky Romero, Davey Richards and Roderick Strong will go against Delirious, Matt Cross and Erick Stevens. Credit: ROHWrestling.com
ECW THOUGHTS
Randy Orton opens the show by recapping what he did to Rob Van Dam on RAW. RVD has a ‘concussion' that we'll put quotes around and isn't in the building. However, he will be at One Night Stand to face Orton in a stretcher match. Tommy Dreamer comes out. Orton makes him sick. This from a guy whose gimmick was to eat disgusting things. Dreamer challenges him to a match. We all know RVD is leaving for TNA, but it would be great to see him go out in a good effort and putting Orton over. That's how you should go out and hopefully WWE won't screw with him.
-Elijah Burke and CM Punk go at it no disqualification. Burke introduces a table and they do a good job in working around it. Marcus Cor Von runs in to take a chair shot, but recovers to deliver the Pounce through the table. Burke wins in a solid little TV match. I'd like to see the three of them in a triple threat.
-Vince McMahon makes fun of Joey's and Tazz's names like he's a playground bully. Note that everyone named Vince is a douchebag (apologies if your name is Vince, but I suggest taking a poll of people you know before sending me an angry letter). Lashley and Vince then have a debate over Sunday's match. Vince continues to amuse me by claiming to be from the streets. Lashley still lacks dynamics in his promos, but they really worked with him here in making him being plain spoken and intelligent sounding strengths.
-The slunts do what they call dancing and good Christians would call demonic possession.
-Kevin Thorn takes on Balls Mahoney and takes him out quickly with the Original Sin. I think Ariel was a key component in getting him over that he's now lacking. Now he's just Gangrel with less theatrics.
-The Majors Brothers get their first promo time with Matt Striker. Instead of putting over themselves, they plug the RVD vs. Orton match and the upcoming draft. Striker gives them a mystery challenge for next week. The Majors need a mouthpiece or a hot girl. I'm still waiting for Lee Majors as their uncle. I bet he could cut a killer promo.
-Orton vs. Dreamer is the main event. Orton wins with the RKO and then gives Dreamer another RKO post match. He pulls up on the boot to the head once, but then punts him. Rob Van Dam, who wasn't in the building, runs in for the save and is taken out. Is he concussed or just smoked a fatty, you decide.
EWR ON 411
Since it's a non-title affair, The Backseat Boys are cocky against the Wicked Jesters. They pull up pins and let go of submissions. The faces finally get their second wind and make the comeback. The champs get scared, so Satin distracts the referee while Trent Acid gets a title belt to nail Wicks with. Dawn Marie steals the belt before he can use it. He turns on her, but falls prey to the Wicked Awesome. Jeter cuts off Kashmere and the Jesters take a big non-title win. (from Mathew)

Colt Cabana gets in Brock Lesnar's face for him letting Batista lose just now to Jericho. Batista can take of himself, but Brock questions where Cabana was. Cabana doesn't respond. Did Batista tell you that?
Segment Rating: 70%
Brock is manhandling Rey when Colt runs into the ring and beats on Lesnar to draw the DQ. Who told him? Who told him? Rey takes off. Batista runs out and pulls Cabana off of Brock. He throws Cabana across the ring and tends to Lesnar. Cabana looks like he's going to cry.
Match Rating: 66%
Booker T meets up with Teddy Long in the back. He's going to rescind his contract stipulation that he can book any match he wants to for himself at any time. He doesn't want to build his career like that. So he's asking Long to be put into the King of the Ring tournament. Long grants it. Booker doesn't want an easy road either. He wants to be challenged at every turn in the tourney. Long books Booker against Rhyno in the first round.

Styles takes him down and wins with the flipped bridge pin. He points to his head post match to show that he's smart. Steve Austin runs out and tries a stunner, but Styles slips out of his grip and runs off. Austin shares a beer with Noble. (from Mathew)

Paul Burchill and CM Punk are in the ring to announce the stipulations for their rematches with Rey Mysterio and Chris Jericho. Teddy Long cuts them off. The WWE governing board received a petition from Mysterio and Jericho this week. They're title matches for the next pay per view are set, but it would take place after the thirty day time limit for Punk and Burchill to defend their belts again. Usually they over look that clause if a title match is booked, but since they directly protested Long is forced to book them into a match for next week. Punk will defend against Chris Cage. Burchill will defend against Triple H.
Segment Rating: 68%
Hunter and Cage then storm the ring and attack the champs. Burchill kicks out of the Cage Breaker. He tags Triple H. He cockily sets up the Pedigree. Burchill backdrops out and hot tags Punk. Punk is a house of fire. The referee is bumped when he gets in the way of an Irish whip. Cage nails Punk in the back of the head with the sledgehammer. Pedigree. Ref recovers to count the pin.

Since Austin Lee is a total jobber I have no idea what his finisher is, so let's say Sabin counters that into the Hail Sabin DDT.

Gene Okerlund asks Stacy Keibler about her upcoming match with Medusa Micelli. Keibler has had some fun with her lately, but only because she takes herself so seriously. However, tonight she knows a submission match is serious business. She's not a trained, veteran wrestler like Medusa. She respects her, she really does, and she can only hope that putting on a good effort tonight against her will earn her some respect.
Segment Rating: 92%

Gene Okerlund asks Colt Cabana about what happened last night with Brock Lesnar. Cabana just lost himself for a moment. He loves Batista…as a partner…in the ring. He knows that Brock is using him and doesn't really care for him like he does…as a friend…and partner…in the ring. Okerlund asks why Cabana didn't go to Batista's aide the night before when he chastised Brock for that. Maybe Brock was right in his assumption. Cabana decks Okerlund and leaves. Stop doing that!
Segment Rating: 66%
Cabana ducks under the Snuka splash. He puts him in the Cabana Hammock torture rack. Brock Lesnar comes out from under the ring and pulls Cabana's leg. He drops Snuka over the ropes to the apron. Snuka hits a slingshot clothesline back into the ring. Backdrop suplex sets up the Splash for real. Cabana throws a fit post match.

Segment Rating: 64%
Turkey Creek Johnson locks Al Snow in a bear hug. He slugs out. Snow comes off the ropes and right into a crashing uppercut. Snow is out cold and is pinned off of the Turkey Stuffer (the name of said punch because it stuffs them right up, from Mathew). The Blue Bloods brawl with the Money brothers after the match.

Jim Cornette hosts the handshake between Eric Angle and Tank Toland. Ok, Angle admits that Toland can be a good WWE superstar. And yes he has hung with him in some matches.
