The Quick Talkdown 6.02.07: ONS III Sets the Stage for the WWE Draft
Posted by Phill Feltham on 06.02.2007

I don't regularly review PPVs, but I feel that it's important to cover One Night Stand. Here are my predictions and more importantly, the aftermath on the eve of the WWE Draft on June 11.

WWE Champion John Cena vs. The Great Khali (Pinfalls Count Anywhere Match)

I had the opportunity to see RAW live from the Air Canada Center this past Monday. The highlight of the evening was Bobby Lashley attacking John Cena. Afterward, Cena was crying. Cena can get heat from the crowd so easily, but is this what the master of Thuganomics been reduced to? It's a crying shame.

I'd expect John Cena to retain the WWE title at One Night Stand. Going into the draft, I don't see Great Khali being the flag bearer for Raw. But if Cena loses, that means if he's drafted, he's not taking any World title with him this time.

My hopes are that Cena loses the title and is drafted to ECW.

ECW World Champion Mr. McMahon vs. Bobby Lashley (Street Fight)

One Night Stand started as an ECW PPV, however that has now changed. I'd expect Lashley to retain the ECW World title, but if he doesn't, then the door is open for him to be drafted to RAW to feud John Cena if he goes there. What does that mean for ECW "Champion" Mr. McMahon? Who will he feud now? Probably some other miracle draft from Raw or Smackdown. With RVD and Lashley gone, there aren't many main eventers left on the ECW roster.

World Heavyweight Champion Edge vs. Batista (Steel Cage Match)

Edge has fireworks now! Edge made Batista look good on Smackdown, but I'd expect Edge to retain the title. Do you see a trend here? At the moment, Lashley and Batista aren't the champions and as long as they don't win any titles at One Night Stand, they can easily be moved to another show without a title. Keep that feeling in mind when you're watching One Night Stand this Sunday.

Melina vs Candice Michelle (Pudding Match)

We win! Melina and Candice fighting in pudding is like a match made in heaven. Melina will no doubt retain the title, but not before we get to drool over two pudding-covered divas. It would be interesting to see if the WWE Women's Champion was traded to Smackdown. That means bad singer Jillian Hall and Michelle McHot could have a chance to fight for it. Just as long as it's not Mickie James--she's got too much junk in the trunk.

World Tag Team Champions The Hardys vs. The World's Greatest Tag Team (Ladder Match)

I really like the World's Greatest Tag Team, but they're not over enough to beat the Hardys for the Tag Team Titles. I hope Matt Hardy doesn't get drafted at all because he's finally getting over on Smackdown. I can see an Edge/ Matt Hardy feud in the not-so-distant future if he continues to play his cards right.

As for Jeff Hardy? Draft him to ECW--his personality would fit there well. The only problem would be, of course, the WWE Tag Team titles. I'd say make them vacant and have a tournament to decide new champions.

The Hardys will win at One Night Stand at any rate.

Six-Man Tag Team Tables Match

CM Punk will definitely play a major role after RVD leaves. My only question is--what is the shelf-life for the other two ECW Originals. Tommy Dreamer may resume his office duties while the Sandman may soon join Sabu and RVD in TNA. Talk about putting the cart pefore the horse. I think I'm reading tarot cards this week.

As for the winners? I'd say CM Punk and the Originals will take it over Burke, Cor Von and Striker--only to get Punk over.

Randy Orton vs. RVD (Stretcher Match)

If Randy Orton is the guy who puts Rob Van Dam 'on the shelf' so to speak, then I think he should be drafted over to ECW. Orton has been on a role 'killing legends' so his extreme nature might be a fit for ECW. Besides they need some main event blood over there in the worst way.

As for R-V-D. Good luck in the TNA!

Kane vs. Mark Henry (Lumberjack Match)

Mark Henry is a 'Brokeback' not a silverback. This guy is a second-rate wrestler who is known for injuring other wrestlers. He'll beat Kane. Henry just returned and they won't want to kill his heat.

A major announcement coming in two weeks! That's it for now.
