The Triple Threat 6.03.07: The 50th Edition
Posted by Sean, David, Alex on 06.03.2007

Hello everyone, as summer continues to roll along and the kiddies are mostly through with school I'd like to take this time to tell everyone to be safe in what they do. Of course, we do talk about a violent sports-entertainment form, so it's only fitting I give you a warning. David is gone on a two week road trip, I had lined up a fill-in but I had something to do last night, and I got home too late, so I just decided to make it a two person thing this week. WWE gave us loads to talk about with SNME on Saturday, One Night Stand tonight, and a draft upcoming, it just seems like things keep rolling along for the big E. What is in store for today's column? Well you need to read to find out, in this our 50th edition of the Triple Threat.

Topic #1 Saturday Night's Main Event was last night. What did you think of the show?

Alex Mattis: I didn't get to catch the show, sorry so I'd rather not comment.

Sean Garmer: I felt like since this didn't get the primetime slot like the others this had no feel to it at all and the matches except for maybe the SmackDown tag with EDGE & MVP vs. Benoit & Batista was the only highlight. We had Lashley vs. Mark Henry that ended with interference, Khali vs. Cena, the same Big and Mini match we've seen multiple times and a ridiculous six man tag with six out of it wrestlers. It's just I don't know, this show seemed really tacked on and useless, if this is how SNME is supposed to go out, that's an atrocity to a show that did wonders for them in the 80's.

Topic #2 It's been announced that Vengeance on June 24th will be a "Night of Champions" do you like them using this concept?

Alex Mattis: "Night Of Champions?" How very last episode of Nitro of the E, but I suppose it will be cool to see all 23 of the E's titles defended. They just need to be careful and not to have too many title changes that night, they don't want to give the "overkill" feel out.

Sean Garmer: I love it, I've been waiting for them to use this forever. It's been a long time since WWE's had a true showcase show and it's about time all the titles were represented. I just hope that we have some new feuds before then. The Intercontinental title and Cruiser titles deserve to be defended in a big environment and now they will have that chance. I hope MVP has a new rival by then, of course Cena, EDGE, and Lashley better have them too. It will be interesting to see what they do with Santino Marella too. We still got a lot of this month left, so we'll see what happens.

Topic #3 WWE has decided to continue the ban on high risk moves like the Shooting Star Press. In doing that, Paul London decided to pull off the move at a house show and was given a final warning by Vince. You ok with London doing this? And should he leave WWE?

Alex Mattis: Say what you want about the indies or TNA, but at least guys don't get in trouble for doing good things there. There is no reason to "ban moves" I think it should be up to the person whether they want to take a risk. If Paul London wants to bust out a SSP or a 450 now and then why should he be stopped? Because it may out do someone in the main event? As for London leaving, I would rather see him using the emense talent that he has, but I understand that it is a business and he needs to do what he feels is best for himself.

Sean Garmer: I like that WWE is thinking about safety with their wrestlers and if they have to ban moves to do so, well I commend them for it. I remember when Paul London was a lowly wrestler in Arlington, TX. Now he's wrestled all over the world, for ROH and various other indy promotions, and has been with the WWE for a while. He apparently has disobeyed orders before, and that's why this is to be his final warning. He got thrown into the doldrums last time he did this, and then went on to have major success as a tag team with Brian Kendrick, and you think that London would have learned his lesson. However, London decided his pride was more important and now faces a dilemma, does he stay with WWE? Or burn the bridge and go somewhere else. If you think about it, London may have risen to U.S. Title status, but I don't think Vince was ever going to consider putting the big title on him, so London could look elsewhere. TNA can always use another X-Division guy to toy with, and ROH might be glad to have him back. London has options and I wouldn't be surprised if he chose one of the ones that didn't involve WWE.

Topic #4 Team 3D (Dudley Boyz) want to return to WWE, would you be excited to see them back?

Alex Mattis: No no no no no no no. Just wrap it up, they don't have what they once had and I think that they know it. I mean good for them if they can get their job back after talking so much shit, but if they came back to the E I would do the same thing I do when I see them on TNA...change the channel.

Sean Garmer: It's not a bad idea for the Dudleyz to want to return, especially after seeing what WWE has done with the Hardyz. WWE is trying with the use of Cade & Murdoch to start a tag division at least on RAW. The Dudleyz returning would provide another ready made team that fills out the system. I think that would get great attention from the fans upon returning as well, honestly it's up to them if they want to comeback or not, but I wouldn't want to be in TNA right now either. If they are jobbing out LAX, goodness I'd hate to know what's going to happen to them or the James Gang. The problem is that Johnny Ace is still in the lockeroom and in fact, he has a bigger position now, so the reason they supposedly left the company in the first place is still a force to be reckoned with in WWE. It'd be a good thing for them to retire in the big company that helped make them bigger stars, but it might come at a price, and they have to be willing to accept that.

Fun Topic of the Week: With WWE getting all gimmick happy for their PPV's recently. What is your favorite gimmick put on a PPV ever?

Alex Mattis: The Last Rights match or the Pig Pen match or any of Russo's awesome ideas. Being serious, I think the cage match or the street fight, when they are done right and when they are needed they can be very important to a feud and often very entertaining.

Sean Garmer: I love the Royal Rumble and Survivor Series, but I have a special place in my heart for King of the Ring. Mainly because it was a big tournament that crowned the new star of WWE, I don't know why but I think that's why I like Soccer so much, because all the big events are tournaments too. Just because you don't know who's going to win and the match-ups that can come up from that are cool. I was upset when they took it away from the June PPV because it was a big tradition for them, and then it suddenly stopped. It was a good idea to start the King Booker character with it too, and that's why I wouldn't mind if they brought it back entirely. However, it's off for now, but I'll always remember the King of the Ring for great stars it brought us, and some cool moments too.

Topic #6 With the draft coming up soon. Who would you like to see moved to another brand?

Alex Mattis: This could be good, but first thing first they need to stop having "inter-brand" matches and such, just keep people on their brands, but switching around I don't have and specific requests but I just want this brand to somehow benefit CM Punk and Randy Orton. If that means putting Punk on Raw or Orton back on SmackDown, so be it.

Sean Garmer: I agree with Alex that they need to stop having inter-brand matches on the television shows because it nullifies the brand extension, not to mention if you want to create interest for a PPV with an inter-brand match it's useless. I think that's what WWE is trying to do with this draft to even up the odds a little for the brands due to all these injuries. I think honestly the only change that I want to see happen is CM Punk going to SmackDown, the Tag Titles to become inter-branded, and Kennedy to go to RAW.

Topic #7 WWE One Night Stand is tonight. What do you think of the card?

Alex Mattis: OVERKILL with the gimmicks, much like LockDown. LockDown turned out to be very good so hopefully this one can be better than it looks on paper. I don't like the three title matches and I don't expect any of those matches to be too good, but the undercard could offer something. The Tables match and especially the Ladder match, it is unfortunate that these are Tables/Ladder match just for the sake of highspots, where both these matches could be great payoffs if there had been any solid build to them. Still, I am interested in this PPV

Sean Garmer: Well the Pudding match will be silly but we could get a new Women's champion which I wouldn't be opposed to since Candice has been performing well. The three title matches are gonna be a drag but at least we have the Ladder match between Hardys vs. World's Greatest Tag Team. Randy Orton vs. RVD could be good and the Six Man Tables match too. I think this could end up being very good.

Well that is all for this week folks. Thanks everyone for reading. Well let us know what your opinions are with some feedback. It's always good to have someone else to argue with besides these guys. We hope see everyone here next week. Ciao Triple Threaters.
