Why I Love Wrestling 6.10.07: The Internet

I take a look at the greatest thing to happen to wrestling fans since Ready to Rumble!
Hello to all who wish to read my article once again. I am your leader Jordan Linkous. I am back from my one-week hiatus stronger than ever. I sat down and thought real hard about what to write about. I then got bored and decided to go to Youtube. Then I realized that the Internet is one of my favorite wrestling experiences.
The Internet
I got into wrestling on the Internet when I moved back from So Cal in summer of 05. Within weeks of returning, my dad and I went to Hooters to watch a PPV. My dad's friend came along as well. We started talking and he informed me about a fabulous wrestling website that provided him with tons of behind the scenes info and show reviews and whatnot. It sounded like a pretty interesting site, so I had him send me a link. That site was none other than 411Mania. I was instantly hooked. In my previous column I mentioned how much I appreciate all of my fellow writers. One thing that was always cool to read was Meehan's dictionary. And no matter what my views were, I would always read Dunn's show reviews. The website was a blessing in disguise as well. I remember Larry posting that they were searching for writers. I decided to write my first column as a spotlight on TNA wrestlers. Needless to say, he wasn't impressed. I tried again sometime later and the rest is history. I really cant thank Larry enough for this. He opened up a window of opportunities for me, and he runs a top notch ship with a great hard-working crew. That is the main reason I love this site. The people I work with, the determination, the dedication, and the quality of the work are all things to be commemorated. So I say thanks to Larry, the writers, and everyone that makes this site run.
Another thing is Youtube. The amazing thing about it is all the videos there. They range from wrestling bloopers to ROH roster videos to videogame clips. Some of my favorites are the clips people make from videogames. Some people have modded the old No Mercy game for the N64. I was amazed at what these people could do. Some people had changed the ring to ROH and CZW logos. They put in sheets of GLASS and did some sick moves on them. They were able to put in the Canadian Destroyer, and create really good wrestlers like CM Punk and Danielson. They make music videos and they are really entertaining. There are also tons of tribute videos. I would often feature then in previous columns, but I am short of time so I cannot add any now. Seriously all you have to do is type in your wrestler and there will be some videos from him or her. Some of my favorites are the Kings of Wrestling video, The Briscoes, and other ROH videos. The next thing about Youtube is the bloopers. If you ever have time, look up this guy Maffew. He has about 20 blooper videos and they are all hilarious. The range from the infamous Heroes of Wrestling Jake Roberts interview to King saying "Hopefully Kane does that to fucking X-Pac" on national TV. There are also some botches like anything Scoot Steiner or Sid Vicious did. My favorite one of all time is when Goldberg goes to spear someone in the corner only to have the opponent move. However, Goldberg still ran full speed and knocked himself out on the ring post. I replayed that over and over again and laughed at how ridiculous Goldberg was/is. The whole Youtube in general is a wonderful thing, and I say thank you to those who mad Youtube.
Another fantastic thing about the net is things like eBay. I was able to acquire most of my wrestling DVD collection by way of eBay. I love using eBay. It is so easy and it is a way to get tons of videos and other memorabilia. I got tons of Ring of Honor DVDs that are awesome. eBay is a user friendly way to get wrestling stuff and all in all a really good thing. I also bought one of my favorite DVD's I have from half.com, an associate of eBay. I bought a Raven DVD from TNA and it is so good. It was an older one with all the matches in the square ring. It still is filled with awesome matches and there is some hardcore fluff that is still mildly entertaining. I also got some older WWF vids like something chronicling the Hardcore title up to 2001 and a DVD talking about the year of 2001 in general. All in all, it is a fun thing, and if there are any old videos that just show up, try and get your hands on them, but you might want to read a review or two first. I also get some great stuff of Amazon, such as Samoa Joe: Unstoppable. Another must have, this DVD takes a look at Joe's career in TNA at this point. Completely unrelated, I just bought the new Ladder Match DVD that the WWE put out. Probably my favorite wrestling DVD of all time, it takes a look at the most influential TLC/Ladder matches. It is awesome and try to get it at all costs. Back to my main point, the Internet is a great way to get a hold of several wrestling DVD's. Thanks eBay.
Another benefit of the Net is that I can get information on how to create some of my favorite wrestlers. I mentioned this in my 10 Things I Love About Wrestling column a while back, but I'll bring it up again. I'm sure many of you could relate as well. I love to create an entire roster on videogames. I created an entire ECW roster filled with wrestlers like Raven, Dreamer, and a horrible Sandman. It was my pride and joy as I would simulate dream matches and create one of a kind Royal Rumbles. I then had an amazing TNA roster with people like Samoa Joe, Styles, Daniels, Sabin, and other great TNA wrestlers. I created my own gang warefare with Styles, Joe, and Daniels versus Abyss, Aries, and Shelley. They would compete in battle royals, Ladder matches, and, my favorite, the Elimination Chamber. It had a sense of real drama, with the faces getting beat down only to have Joe come in and kill some bitches. It was tons of fun and I still look back on it. My most recent adventure is a full fledge ROH roster. The website I use, caws.ws, is filled with tons of accurate and fun guys to make, such as Jimmy Jacobs and Delirious. I made my own March Madness, which, while it is yet to finish, was still greatly entertaining. All in all, without the web, I wouldn't have as much fun with any wrestling games. Thank you to the people who spend all their time perfecting formulas for me to use and enjoy forever and ever.
The internet is a wrestling fans dream come true. It is used for tons of things, and it is awesome. For the fans who want to know what real wrestling fans like them think, there are forums. For those of us who like the "professional" opinion, you read the crap that spews out of my mouth every week. I kid, I kid. For the videogamers, there are the wrestler formulas and videogame cheats, which can be very entertain for people like me. You could look up your favorite wrestler and find out everything you like about them and some pretty cool tribute videos. You can get a hold of some rare wrestling videos or even pick up the latest and greatest ROH videos. The Internet is a fabulous thing and extremely entertaining and beneficial for the readers.
And with that, I have to call it a night. I am nursing a gallstone, which is really something that a 17 year old can have, and I'm not even home. So my apologies for the shortness. Be sure to send me Why You Like Wrestling or if you agree with me. Peace out.
