The Quick Talkdown 6.23.07: Torrie and Edge Tie the Knot on Smackdown

A look into the old wrestling crystal ball.

This is not a rumor nor has it happened. After watching Smackdown this past week, I thought of a great way to get Torrie's Smackdown career off to a great start—but it involves a few scenarios.
Vengeance is this Sunday. Edge and Batista will square off again in another title match. My money is on Edge because Batista has been in the Smackdown World title picture way too long. Even with his buddy Ric Flair there, something still needs to be done.
As for Torrie? She's had her fair share of old men. I think it's now time for her to get herself back into the World title picture by dating the greatest wrestler in the game, Edge. Hold the applause, please.
It would start a Ric Flair/ Edge program. Now before you cringe, hear me out. Think about—Flair and four other dudes making up the Four Horsemen. A reunion of the Four Horsemen would be a great start for his debut on Smackdown. Plus, Torrie crossing over would be great fuel for Flair's hatred. Edge could brag to be the ‘dirtiest player in the game' while Flair is ‘the oldest player in the game'. Old generation Vs. New Generation—can't get enough of that. To add fuel to the fire, have a cheesy wedding Edge and Torrie wedding and have the Four Horsemen crash it. Edge will agree to the marriage because he saw the light—all the while remaining the R-Rated superstar.
WHO DONE IT? CULPRIT TO BE REVEALED AT SURVIVOR SERIES
Who killed Vince McMahon? I answered this question last week, but since everyone is going guess, I'll throw mine in there too with a little creativity. Who did it? Bret Hart! Why him? Because it's almost ten years since the Montreal Screwjob and what a more opportune time to reveal the ‘killer' than at decade anniversary where Bret got screwed ten years before.
Bret could come in and bring with him the New Hart Foundation—Harry Smith, Nattie Neidhart and Teddy Hart. Bret could stay awhile and get these guys over for awhile until the Royal Rumble. At this time, McMahon returns. This sets up a potential match-up between Bret and Vince at WrestleMania. I know this won't ever happen, but it's my column and I can dream if I want to.
CHRIS BENOIT GOOD FOR ECW
I must say that I'm glad ECW was drafted to Smackdown. A friend told me that Benoit's career will take a turn for the worse, but I disagree. Lashley was bad for business because he was beating Umaga every week on RAW. Lashley became the untouchable which would have made it hard for any ECWer to fight for the title. But Benoit brings prestige and honor back to the ECW World title. A CM Punk/ Chris Benoit feud will be good for ECW. Will it be good for ratings? I don't know about that. Time will tell that one.

WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN WITH THE ‘VINCE DEATH ANGLE'?
"Now that Vince is dead Steph and Shane struggle to control the show without Vince—so there reduced to bringing back Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff takes Smackdown and Heyman reclaims his ECW. While the McMahon's stay on RAW. This soon deteriorates when Bischoff and Heyman do what they always wanted put WWE out of business.
Bischoff goes all out for ratings bringing back war games and other old favorites. He makes some legal maneuvers and gets ownership of SmackDown and renames it WCW Nitro—while ECW returns to its fully hardcore format.
The McMahons are up in arms that Bischoff and Heyman are not respecting what Vince wanted and his direction for his empire. So the war is on. The McMahons invade in an attempt to take their company back.
Meanwhile Both ECW and WCW invade WWE raw. Some old names from all three brands get brought back to help in the war. In the fall, the Undertaker resurfaces with the Ministry of Darkness—it's not clear whose side he's on. He recruits Kane and other big stars. It all gets more confusing when DX gets recruited into the Ministry. They take over Raw. Just when you think WWE is finished, Undertaker says he can't be stopped after taking down Stephanie and Shane and starts invading ECW and takes it over.
With Bischoff being the last thing standing in the way of the Ministry taking everything over, Vince returns and sides with Bischoff because his "kids failed, his empire failed and now he wants WWE to die once and for all." In one final twist, Steph and Shane rise from their own ashes claiming they were never defeated that they were there to take Bischoff down and this was their master plan, but Vince is not convinced and the final battle between WCW and WWE begins—this time for keeps.
Vince wins the first battle by taking back ECW and giving it back to Heyman, but the Undertaker isn't going down easy. The turmoil spills over into WrestleMania 24 where the final battle of WCW and WWE will be decided." -- Tomsr72@aol.com
Mr. Tom,
You have an interesting concept here. You're obviously a big fan of nostalgia, but I think some of the angles you've mentioned have been done before. But hey, whatever works, works. It's better than some of the angles that are going on right now. Thanks for reading.
