More, more, more! How do you like it, the LARRY SWEENEY INTERVIEW!
Yes, that's right, we had an interview with Larry Sweeney! First of all I want to thank Larry Sweeney for doing this interview and I would also like to thank the guys on the staff forum who helped us get a few questions to ask him. Alright guys here you go:
Who were your influences in wrestling?
I try to learn what I can from every single guy in the business, be it guys I meet live or see on tape. Big ones would be Buddy Rose, Mike Quackenbush, Chris Hero.
What is your favorite match you been in/seen?
I've got a couple favorites of my own, including one with Mike Quackenbush in Blaine, PA in August 2005 and a strap match with Eddie Kingston in Toronto in October 2006. I don't really have a favorite match on tape, I really enjoy just about anything from the 80s.
Whats next for Sweet and Sour Inc.?
That's for me to know and you to find out.
Do you enjoy managing Sweet N' Sour Inc. and much as wrestling?
Absolutely. There are different peaks and valleys to the two different roles, but I am very happy with my spot in ROH.
Who could you picture being next to join Sweet M' Sour Inc. in the Ring of Honor or elsewhere?
I feel like we could use the influence of somebody who has been in this business for decades, so I am in the final stages of talks with Koko B. Ware. And Koko ain't cheap, let me tell you.
Where did the Sweet N' Sour nickname come from?
I'm the Sweet looking guy with the Sour attitude, it was a natural.
What are your thoughts on doing commentary for CHIKARA shows? Would you want to do guest commentary for ROH shows?
Absolutely, their commentary team is obviously biased against the Sweeney family, and I would love the opportunity to straighten them out. I always enjoy commentary at CHIKARA because I get to hang with my good buddy, the devious Ultramantis Black.
After making your one and only appearence in PWG several years ago, are you considering a return any time soon, especially since you have a few clients in the 2007 BoLA already?
I certainly would consider it, but there have been no talks in that direction.
Who is worthy of a Texarkana TV Title shot?
The ICW/ICWA has tightened ship, so I can only defend the title against somebody who has proven their worth as a wrestler in that region of the country. I do, though, have a score to settle with Bryan Alvarez, and the belt will be on the line for that.
Can we get directions to Larry-dise?
You're a guy, right? No.
Who won the squat-off between Tank and Sara?
I'll tell you something. We were in Manhattan that night, the action there is incredible, and so I just left. They kept going and going...I wanted to see a winner, but Larry Sweeney has bigger fish to fry in NYC.
Will Tank ever let Bobby Dempsey stop doing cardio moves while at ringside?
No, and he shouldn't. Bobby is lucky we even let him hang out with us. And look at what a fat blob he is. He should be eternally grateful to Tank for getting him into shape, it's the only way he might ever get a shot with the ladies.
What are your favorite hotspots in Redondo Beach?
The Deja View #2 Video and Tanning Salon, The Redheaded Stepchild Nightclub, and then there's always the beach and its many piers. Some aren't lit that well, those are the places to go.
How does a normal day in the life of Larry Sweeney play out?
There's no pattern. Variety is the spice of life. Some days I'm a beach bum without a care in the world, reading Melville and Yogananda and soaking up the rays, and some days I'm flying in between heavy sets at the gym and working out deals for my various clients, for which I get compensated very well, let me assure you. There's no telling what tomorrow holds.
There you go guys, hope you enjoyed the interview with Larry Sweeney. I think mama Sweeney would be very happy with that. Anyways, now on with the column itself. Its only a singles match today because Zach had some problems this week and wasn't able to get his stuff in but enjoy anyways!
Topic #1 Vince made his return to RAW this past Monday, what are your thoughts?
David Martell: I was actually excited to see Vince return mainly because this signified that the WWE was moving on from the Benoit tragedy. It definatly wasn't a great RAW but it was still entertaining. I'm not really digging this illegitimate child storyline but WWE has done way worse in the past. Vince is a crazy man and I know somehow he will make someone out there like this storyline.
Alex Mattis:I'm not big fan of Vinny Mac at all, and I don't like promoters being a part of their own show too often. But if this is what they feel they need to do to help out their company, then so be it. This angle about the "illegitimate child" is kinds of ridiculous. I just hope that the angle doesn't become the focal point of SummerSlam, and I sure as hell hope it doesn't over shadow Cena-Orton or even the return of Triple H. See this is what I'm talking about when I say that the E has problems. When Vince McMahon returning is a big deal and treated as something that we are suppose to be excited about, there are some problems.
Topic #2 Pac Man Jones makes his debut to TNA this Sunday at Hard Justice. Although he cant wrestle, what do you think this will do for TNA?
David Martell: Thank God hes actually not going to wrestle. I am not a big fan of sports stars coming in and trying to become a wrestler. Two good examples of that are Dennis Rodman and Carl Malone. It will be interesting so see what role TNA will use him in but it seems like to me they are just trying to get more publicity. It was a dumb move by TNA and hopefully all this will pass very soon.
Alex Mattis: How embrassing for TNA, as if signing "Pac Man" wasn't embrassing enough... They think they are scoring something big and it is taken away very quickly. I read in a Dallas newspaper yesterday that Jones can't do ANYTHING for TNA. They listed off such options as wrestling, commentating, being a spectator, ANYTHING, he can't do it. Makes me happy because this would have just been more garbage for TNA. TNA is on a collision course with failure if they keep up what they are currently doing. And while before they had a tremendous roster, now they are just becoming a company that'll take sloppy seconds from people released by the E. Even if they have absolutley NO talent. Cough... Test... Cough... "Punisher" Andrew Martin...
Topic #3 Ron Killings is rumored to debut back in TNA this Sunday at Hard Justice, what do you think of this?
David Martell: To be honest, I really don't care to much for Ron Killings. To me he will always be remembered as K-Quick. He is one of those people who make wrestling look really fake by doing so many rediculous flips. This is definatly good for him because he gets the chance to wrestle again but I really don't care to see him again in TNA.
Alex Mattis: Any and all things that TNA had going for "The Truth" are ruined and far gone. Not to mention the fact the you can clearly tell that he doesn't want to wrestle for them and he simply doesn't care anymore. Now I always love to see unnessacry flips following a flying forearm. But other than that I might enjoy seeing Killing wrestle somewhere where he wants to be more.
Topic #4 Lashley is going to be sidelined for 3-5 months with a shoulder injury, how do you think this will affect the RAW roster?
David Martell: This really sucks for WWE and Lashley. Now Lashley isn't the greatest wrestler but he is way over with the fans and is now a real star in the WWE. Hopefully when he comes back they will make the build up huge and by then he could be ready for the Royal Rumble. It will definatly be interesting to see what happens with the rest of the roster while he is gone and to see who will take his place.
Alex Mattis: Unfortunate for Bobby because this really derails the moster push he was getting. This may work out well for him though if he takes some of the this time to do some more in ring training. He improves his skills and returns to a crowd that'll be anxious to see him, from there he displays some new skills and in turn gets even more over. But will he do this? Most likely not because in the minds of the powers at be in the WWE he's already good enough.
Topic #5 TNA's Hard Justice is this Sunday what are your thoughts?
David Martell: I am definatly not excited about Hard Justice. This PPV is just more gimmick matches, horrible storylines, and the lack of good talent. Yeah, we do get Joe vs. Angle again but its in just a horrible storyline. With them having all the belts it make the undercard worthless. Seriously people, TNA is starting to look like WCW. Don't forget, Pac Man Jones will also be making his debut. I recommend not buying this PPV.
Alex Mattis: Want to know whats wrong with TNA right now? Compare last years Hard Justice to this one. The show shouldn't be horrible by any means, but seriously how many times can we see Eric Young and Bobby Roode. Why is the greatness that is LAX being wasted against VKM? Why "bar room brawls" and "chambers of bloody doom" matches happening? Why does one man have the TAG titles? Ahh the things I don't understand. Anyway as for the good of the show, The Steiners Vs. The Dudleys should be a blast. AJ will probablly do some awesome crazy bump in the cage match. Angle and Joe will be wrestling, and while the stipulation will be dumb we can't deny the fact that they are two of the top in the world and should have a great match. The three way tag match has no build but it should be great. And Raven Vs. Kazarian should be ok, that has been one of the best storyline TNA has had lately. There are several matches on this card that interest me, and I'm all for being surprised by the other. But looking in from the outside, much of this card just seems like cheap ploys to boost buyrates.
That's it for this weeks column. I really hope you enjoyed the Larry Sweeney interview, we have more interviews to go hopefully. Cya later guys!
