Any idea who the new developmental talent is that ECW plans to add? A gut feeling on who some of the call ups could include?

Thanks – Ryan

Just looking at the developmental rosters and considering who has been getting some house show, jobber and dark match work and who already has a bit of seasoning I would say the best bets to be called up soon would be Afa Jr. and Rosey, Kassidy James and KC James, Jay Bradley, Colt Cabana, Ace Steel, Matt Sydal, Vladimir Koslov, Mike Mondo and Nick Nemeth, Ryan O'Reilly and Kofi Kingston. Those are just some guesses on my part as WWE hasn't announced who they're considering at this time.

Seems like we had a disconnect again - i wasnt saying Khali should've used another move because the head crush could be seen as leading to brain damage, I was just saying it might be smart for the WWE to not use moves closely associated with wrestlers who died before their time (and whose cause of death just came out) so as not to draw added attention to them by making people think of the deceased wrestlers after seeing their moves.

At this stage, given the scrutiny the WWE is under, its impossible to be _too_ cautious when it comes to distancing yourself from former WWE wrestlers that died early. ie, no perfect plex, no "rude awakening" (his version of it, not the quick drop they do right now, which i grant is different enough), no crippler crossface, no new wrestlers named "Flyin' Brian" , no doomsday device, hopefully no blue blazer ever again, etc.

m

Yes, it does seem like we're not communicating. I wasn't saying that the move looks like it could crush someone's skull. I was saying that the only connection you could draw between the move, the people who use it and possible drug use is considering the size and strength needed to make it look good. While it might not be a good idea for someone to pull out Benoit's move set right now, moves used by guys a number of years ago that have been used for years in wrestling by other workers I don't think really hurts them. As I also tried to explain last week I don't think a lot of people would make the proper connections on that anyway. I do agree that they can't be too cautious at this time, but the use of certain moves is just pulling the strings a little too tight, because I really don't see where it matters.

NEWS AND NOTES

-Ric Flair is suing a Columbia, South Carolina dealership for using his name and likeness to sell cars. Freedom Suzuki has ran television and radio spots that featured a blond haired Captain Freedom (oddly enough, the name of Jesse Ventura's character in The Running Man) spouting Flair's various catchphrases and screaming "Whoooeee," similar to Flair's "Whoooo." It is known that the company tried to get permission from WWE to run the ads, but was refused and ran them anyway. While the catchphrases and mannerisms are not trademarked, they are well known to Flair and he is suing on the grounds of "confusingly similar likeness." On those grounds Buddy Landell and half of the guys in the eighties should be sued. Flair is probably mad because they're moving more cars than he's moving financial advice. Flair has also been pulled from a personal appearance WWE had booked for him for October 19th in Orlando. Credit: AP Reports, PWInsider.com

-Last week Tony Atlas was working with developmental talent in OVW. It's been said that Atlas did not get along with the young talent by only putting himself over and pointing out what they were doing wrong. CM Punk worked the tapings and Atlas got on him for having his wrists taped oddly and he said it looked like his arms were broken. After the taping Atlas critiqued the talent harshly and constantly stared at Punk when he made points. Punk finally called Atlas out and asked what he was looking at. Atlas replied that with an attitude like that, he would never make television. Atlas was unaware that Punk was ECW champion and one of WWE's most popular current stars. That's the dumbest thing he's done since Saba Simba. Punk and Atlas continued to argue for about twenty minutes. Afterwards, OVW wrestler Atlas DaBone apologized on behalf of Punk to Atlas. Many felt that this was just DaBone sucking up to management and that he had no right to apologize on Punk's behalf. Word has it that morale in OVW is very low right now as talent feels that they are always being harped on for doing everything wrong and are never given positive encouragement. John Laurinaitis as the head of talent relations was reported to be every upset over the incident and that seasoned ECW trainers Al Snow and Robert Gibson allowed it to occur in the first place. To top all that off, CNN is currently following CM Punk around for their upcoming documentary on professional wrestling. We can only hope they got that whole altercation on tape. -The official website for WWE development territory Florida Championship Wrestling is now up at www.fcwwrestling.com On Monday WWE released from FCW Buck Quatermaine and Keith Walker. Credit: PWInsider.com

-In recent court papers filed against Dr. Phil Astin it has been stated that the amount of steroids he prescribed for Chris Benoit was "excessive" for someone with the hormone disorder he was purported to have. Over a twelve month period Astin prescribed Benoit a ten month dosage seven times, or roughly fifty percent more than the guidelines laid down by the FDA. Credit: AP Reports

-For Cyber Sunday it was announced that fans would vote on Randy Orton's opponent for the WWE Title. The choices are Shawn Michaels, Jeff Hardy and Ken Kennedy. I'd laugh my ass off if Hardy wins it. Not that WWE wouldn't go with what they wanted to do anyway, but they pinky swear they will go with the fan votes. Projected for Smackdown is Batista vs. The Great Khali vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Finlay for the World Heavyweight Title with special guest referee of Steve Austin, Mick Foley or JBL. Last week it was reported that WWE was looking to use Undertaker and Mark Henry instead of Mysterio and Foley and Piper over JBL. Don't blame me, WWE has no clue what they're doing right now. Credit: WWE.com

-In your online Heat report Jacob Duncan defeated Noah Lott in a dark match. Cade and Murdoch jobbed out the Ameri-Mex Connection of Jim Duggan and Super Crazy. Carlito Caribbean Cool went over Conrad Carr for alliteration overload. The World's Greatest Tag Team jobbed some jobbers named N8 Madison and Gutter. Cody Rhodes beat Daivari. The jobbers were part of Scott D'Amore's Can-Am Wrestling School . Credit: PWInsider.com

-Smackdown non-spoiler rundown:

*Jacob Duncan went over Funaki in a dark match
*Chuck Palumbo vs. Chris Masters
*Jesse and Festus vs. Conrad Carr and Jay Adams (Conrad Kennedy III and Eddie Venom of the indy circuit)
*Jamie Noble hangs out with Deuce and Domino
*Drew McIntyre vs. Brett Major. McIntyre had Dave Taylor with him.
*Matt Hardy and MVP continue to one up each other
*The Undertaker and Kane vs. Matt Hardy and MVP
*Great Khali vs. Jamie Noble, set up by previous promo between Noble and Vicki Guerrero
*Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Deuce
*Rey Mysterio vs. Finlay
*The announced dark main event was Batista and Rey Mysterio vs. Khali and Finlay

-RAW on Monday scored a lowly 2.8 cable rating, down from 3.2 last week. This was most likely due to the Yankees vs. Indian game and Cowboys vs. Bills game on Monday Night Football drawing big ratings. Or maybe it was due to RAW being the Vince and Hunter show again. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Fathead, a sports memorabilia company that produces large vinyl wall displays, will be one of the sponsors for Cyber Sunday. They will be allowing fans to vote on what WWE Superstar will be the next to be immortalized as a Fathead between Rey Mysterio, Jeff Hardy, Boogeyman and CM Punk. Boogeyman would look bad ass, but Mysterio will probably win the fan vote. Fatheads already available of WWE superstars include John Cena, Bobby Lashley, Undertaker, Batista and Triple H. All those guys have fatheads in real life anyway. Fatheads are available for purchase at wweshop.com and fathead.com Credit: press release

-WWE is partnering with the National Literacy Trust in the United Kingdom to promote reading. Reading Champions declared by several schools will be entered into a contest to win a trip to Wrestlemania 24. Three winners will be chosen. The press release states that WWE and NLT are partnering up "to target schools in England to prove that there is nothing weedy about reading!" I know we have British readers, what the hell does ‘weedy' mean? I'm reminded of the Kathy Griffin "My Life on the D-List Episode" where she was in England and given a list of words she couldn't say. Not even English citizens had an idea what half the words on the list meant. Credit: press release

-After No Mercy went off the air on Sunday Triple H refused medical attention and limped his way to the back. I think he's bucking to be the next Terminator by proving how indestructible he is. In a dark match before the pay per view, Hardcore Holly beat Cody Rhodes to a pulp. The MVP and Matt Hardy vs. Undertaker and Kane match for No Mercy was pulled from the ppv for the Smackdown taping to air this Friday. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Last year WWE released a box set of all Royal Rumble events. This year they will be releasing two separate sets spanning from 1988 to 1992 and 1993 to 1997. In January they will also be releasing a DVD set celebrating the 15th anniversary of RAW. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Rory of the Highlanders and his wife are expecting a child. What they are expecting the child to do I don't know. I just took that newsbit, because I would put it less tactfully like his old lady his knocked up. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Midway will be sponsoring a fan interaction festival this weekend for Bound for Glory. Several TNA stars will be available for autographs, pictures and meeting with fans. Tickets will be $40 ahead of time through ShopTNA.com and $50 at the door. Midway will also have a preview of the TNA Impact video game due for most major consoles this coming May at the festival. Known elements for the game include:
*Customizable wrestlers
*Create a wrestler mode
*Storyline mode
*Playable characters of Sting, Kurt Angle, Jeff Jarrett, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Christian Cage, Rhino and Abyss
*Playable matches will be the six sided ring, Ultimate X, tag team, King of the Mountain and fatal fourways
*Online tournaments will most likely be an option
*Managers will be incorporated into the game and will be able to give players tips and teach their wrestlers new fighting styles and moves. What is Traci Brooks going to teach you? How to tape your boobs up? Samoa Joe might need that help though. Credit: PWInsider.com

-TNA will be holding a house show in Birmingham tonight. Kurt Angle is still scheduled to appear. He will also be at Bound for Glory and take part in the fan festival over the weekend, despite his recent arrest for DUI. Credit: PWInsider.com

-IFL commissioner Kurt Otto has stated that he is in talks with Kurt Angle. Angle has been interested in MMA for sometime and is said to like the team format of IFL. Credit: MMAWeekly.com

-Roxxi Leveaux vs. Traci Brooks will be the featured match for TNA's Road to Bound for Glory this Saturday night. I have hopes for TNA's women division to be something substantial, so lets hope this push pays off for it. Awesome Kong is being targeted as a linchpin for the division, but she will most likely work under a different name. She owns the right to her name and does not want to sign them over to TNA for usage. A similar incident happened with Low Ki and it is why he is known as Senshei. New Knockouts, Talia Madison and Angel Williams have interviews up at TNAwrestling.com as part of TNA Today. Credit: PWInsider.com

-According to TNA mobile Kid Kash was at TNA offices last week discussing coming on with them. It also announced that the Ultimate X match would open Bound for Glory this Sunday. Credit: TNA mobile news alerts

-Takeshi Morishima will not be working a full schedule with Ring of Honor in 2008, but will be used for special events. Matt Cross is working some oversea dates, which led to him being suspended for 60 days in storylines. He will return. The Ring of Honor pay per view taped Saturday will air in January under the name of Undeniable. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Mark Briscoe is hopeful to return to action for Ring of Honor by the October 19th show in Las Vegas . He will be at that event and in San Francisco on October 21st, but it not known at this time if he will be able to work a match. At this time, Mark and Jay Briscoe are set to face off with Jimmy Jacobs and Tyler Black in Las Vegas . The show will also feature the Survival of the Fittest 2007 tournament The winner of all matches will advance to the elimination main event. The other matches booked are:
*ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness vs. 2004 Survival Of The Fittest Champion Bryan Danielson

ECW THOUGHTS

-Big Daddy V squashed Tommy Dreamer in the opener in a virtual rerun from last week. If you do the math and lay out the hierarchy, Dreamer might be the highest card mega-jobber in wrestling history.

-Kevin Thorn jobs out James Curtis. Just writing that sentence is giving this match too much ink. Curtis actually looked decent though. Thorn looked the same as usual. He about killed Curtis on some messed up slam thingy. See it was so messed up I'm not too sure what he was even going for.

-The Miz chews out Kelly Kelly for liking Balls. I love writing sentences like that. Miz forces Kelly to be in his corner. Miz's hat needs to be on the head of a much cooler wrestler.

-Miz and Balls Mahoney lock up finally after a good long build. I still don't care about the match though. Miz does do a cool spot where he drapes Balls over the second rope and then uses him as a springboard to flip over the ropes to the floor for a variation of the Savage neck snap. Miz wins by count out when Balls does a header into the announce table. Miz steals the Balls Bear and punts it like Snitsky with a baby doll. I say within a year Kelly does the pregnancy/miscarriage angle with someone. Let's hope I'm wrong.

-John Morrison returns to ECW by taking on CM Punk. The ECW Title is not on the line. It's like the suspension never happened. Styles and Tazz don't mention a thing about Morrison being unseen for the past month. Punk has his ribs heavily taped, so Morrison attacks them. They kind of work the match like they've seen a bunch of matches that worked the ‘hurt ribs' angle and don't so much build a cohesive storyline through the match itself. That I feel is the biggest trouble with WWE right now as they have a ton of young guys that don't know how to properly build and tell a story through a match. They just go through the motions without a concept of storytelling and character development. It's not like WWE doesn't have several guys that know how to do this working in creative, as road agents and even are still on the active roster like Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair. Anyway, the match does pick up a bit in the end thanks to all the near falls and pacing. Morrison wins the match and the status quo has been reestablished.

EWR ON 411
