Why I Love/Hate Wrestling 10.21.07: Bound for Glory (Part 2)
Posted by Jordan Linkous on 10.21.2007
TNA's Biggest Show of the Year, Bound for Glory, delivers this year and leaves me wanting more! More I tell ya!
Welcome back to my two part feature of TNA's Bound for Glory. I have seen the PPV and now it is time to give you the rundown and let you know if the PPV was the bomb or if it bombed!
Why I Love Wrestling
ULTIMATE X: LAX (Homicide y Hernandez) vs. XXX (Elix Skipper and Senshi)
What a match this was. While there was no feud driving this match, I couldn't care less. Every single guy stepped up and worked as hard as they could, and it showed. This was a hot opener and pumped up the fans. We started of with some nonsensical brawling, but business quickly picked up. Senshi had a great night and looked truly like a warrior. He worked his ass off to deliver a hard fought battle as well as showed some new moves. He applied a Dragon Sleeper while on the structure that looked brutal. He hit a Warrior's Way while Homicide was in the tree of woe that looked DEVASTATING. Plus, he took some big bumps. He was powerbombed viciously by Hernandez, as well as taking a bone shattering Pounce that left him lying outside the ring. But no bump was sicker than the neckbreaker that Elix Skipper received at the hands of Homicide. Both men were climbing the wires and then Homicide got a hold of Skipper and pulled him down in an insane spot. It was a SICK neckbreaker that I replayed a couple times just to grasp how insane it was. Skipper also brought another incredible moment when he battled atop the steel structure only to leap onto Hernandez. I have a new found appreciation for Hernandez, by the way. He is a big guy but is an awesome athlete and wrestler as a whole. He put his body on the line and has, on numerous occasions, put on awe inspiring moments. Plus, he Pounced the crap out of Senshi. And he won the match for his team after he Border Tossed Elix out of the ring and ONTO Senshi and Homicide, and then he climbed the wire and won. So my prediction didn't pan out, seeing as how I picked XXX, but the match was sweet anyways.
TABLES MATCH: Rick and Scott Steiner vs. Team 3D
I was on the fence about this match more than any other on the card. On one hand, you have the Steiners, who have been good since their reunion. On the other hand, you have Team 3-D, who flat out suck. Or, in Ray's case, FAT out suck. Seriously, he is just a big ass loaf in the ring that does nothing. Anyway, in the end I decided to give this match a thumb's slightly up. It had everything I could have expected in this match. It had Scott Steiner bringing the awesome with the Frankensteiner through the table, MCMG getting their revenge on 3-D, and, best of all, it had 3-D losing. My only complaint is that this match just seemed to be going from one table spot to another, with nothing in between. But, given the circumstances, this match did alright. By the way, I had the finish of this match down to a T. I said it would end with the bulldog through the table, and it did. Go me. I am 3-1 now.
KNOCKOUTS GAULTLET TO CROWN THE FIRST CHAMPION
While this wasn't MOTN or anything, it proved that TNA possibly has a better women's division than WWE. I honestly got intimidated when Kong entered the ring. She demolished about half of the women in the match, but then got teamed on and we saw a tad bit too much of Kong. ODB is someone I am unsure about, but ladies like Angel Williams, Shelley Martinez, and Talia Madison showed that they can be hot and wrestle. Jackie and Traci didn't last very long but they have proven before that they can wrestle. Christy Hemme may have been the MVP in this match for nearly being broken in half and then suffering a Kong Bomb. She sold her injury well and many believed she was truly injured. The final two came down to Roxxi and Gail Kim, which is who I would have picked aside from Kong/Kim. They had a good back and forth battle and Kim ultimately won. She is a good choice to lead the women's division and we will see where it goes. All in all, the match was fine for a women's match.
THERE MUST BE A WINNER: Christian Cage vs. Samoa Joe
We got Christian Cage vs. Samoa Joe with no interference and a clean finish. What more is there to say? Match of the Night. I am 4-2.
MONSTER'S BALL MATCH: Abyss vs. Rhino vs. Black Reign vs. Raven
So this wasn't the instant classic Monster's Ball or anything, but it was a brutal hardcore brawl. Many people complained about the fact that they gave this match away on free TV, which they did. But beside that fact, I enjoyed the match. Raven brought the awesome and has been extra motivated, especially considering the fact that he doesn't have the best health and may be past his prime. All the guys took some sick bumps and Reign was the one who took the most damage, much to my delight. The match seemed to just move from spot to spot, but it wasn't bad at all. I also called the finish of this one when I said that Abyss would win via Black Hole Slam onto the glass. 5-2.
FIGHT FOR THE RIGHT BATTLE ROYAL
Oh dear God this match was insanely horrible. First off the stupidity is overwhelming. The beginning of the match consists of everyone scrambling to get INTO the ring. Everyone looked like douchebags standing around and the cameras caught several people stalling outside. The match sucked and was horrible stupid. The only redeeming factor was the awesomeness of MCMG. They hit some awesome double team moves and livened up the match. Oh, and great job for TNA to job out MCMG on Impact and screw the fans out of an awesome match by having 3-D ruin the match. The reverse battle royal is an insanely stupid match and you really have to see it to see how horrible it is. This also made the Women's Battle Royal look like overkill but I could have done without the match. There were only really four people in the match that could have been used somewhere else. I would have put Storm and Harris in the Monster's Ball and MCMG in the Ultimate X. That would have made the PPV more enjoyable and we wouldn't have to waste our time with the BS. 5-4 is the final score for my picks, by the way.
The matches I expected to deliver delivered and the matches I was on the fence about weren't horrible. The Tag Title match was much better than expected but the Fight for Your Right was utter Balls. The stupidity…… Anyway, great PPV and a strong recommendation. Keep an eye out for it when it comes out on DVD.
That just about wraps up my look at Bound for Gory 2007. Be sure to check out the other great columns on the website and enjoy. Stay classy, 411Mania readers.
