The Triple Threat 11.18.07: The 70th Edition - Survivor Series, Jericho, JBL vs. Morrison and More
Posted by David Martell on 11.18.2007

Welcome back to the Triple Threat. This week we had a lot of great wrestling news. We also had the release of WWE Smackdown vs. RAW 2008, and I think it's awesome. Well lets get this party started.

Topic # 1 Survivor Series is this Sunday, what are your thoughts on the card?

David Martell: I think this PPV is shaping up to be decent. Let's start with the good things about the card. I am really excited about the Undertaker vs. Batista HIAC match. Batista and Undertaker are on a roll and I can see this being one of the best matches of the year, at least one of the most entertaining. HBK vs. Orton can be really good but I don't think it will have the excitement of the last two WWE Title matches. As long as Orton wins I will be happy. The World Tag Team Championship match could be the sleeper for the night. I really enjoy Cade and Murdoch and for the past few weeks, Holly and Cody Rhodes have been looking good. I am always up for a good Survivor Series match as long as it gets some time. This one doesn't seem to have much meaning but as long as there is good wrestling I wont care. The Triple Threat match for the ECW Title could be good but I have a feeling they won't get much time. For the past few PPVs, the ECW Title matches have been very short. Now for the bad. Hornswoggle vs. Khali could be one of the worst matches I have ever seen and I would recommend taking a bathroom break during this match. The Woman's 10 diva tag match will probably be crappy unless Beth Phoenix decides to kill everyone. If that happens then this could be great. Over all, I think this PPV will be worth watching. If anything, you get the return of Edge.

Alex Mattis: Is it a bad thing that when I think of the Survivor Series I crave turkey and cranberry sauce? Ah yes, going back to the days when the E would have SS on Thanksgiving eve. When it was a Thanksgiving themed event, and even once featured an oversized turkey who reached legend status as the Gobbledy Gooker do cris-crosses with Mean Gene. Ah yes, tradition. Well it seems that the only bit of tradition left in the Survivor Series is the elimination tag. These were at one point a golden opportunity for young guys to get some PPV time and do their thing in front of a PPV audience. Not anymore. The team captains? Triple H, yeah he needs more TV time. And Umaga, while a solid competitor he needs a new gimmick before anything or anyone will take him seriously. The teams? Team H - Hardys, Rey "The biggest little man...who doesn't care anymore" Mysterio, and Kane. I will give the E this, the old SS face teams were always random and never had much in common (Hulk, Jake The Snake, and Demolition WTF!!??) so this team surely fits in the "tradition" of things. Team Umaga - Kennedy, MVP, Finlay, and Big Daddy obese Godfather. It's good to see talented up and comers like MVP and Kennedy in a high profile match like this one. Both have much to learn so a match like this working with so many of their peers could be a great learning experience. Finlay will destroy Rey, he just needs to bludgeon Rey with something, get DQ'd and leave. Would anyone complain? What needs to be complained about is the fact that Big Daddy V is in such a high profile match. Now that makes no sense. The ECW triple threat should be good. Punk and Morrison work well together and who knows, maybe the Miz has some skills. This is a big chance for the Miz, let's see how he handles it. Khali Vs. Hornswoggle shows why the E is not company that is focused on professional wrestling. The Orton-HBK match should be good as they have a good chemistry, but a clean win for Orton is a must if that want him to have a good, legit title reign. Finally, far be it for me to anticipate a Batista match but I am looking forward to the HIAC this Sunday. This feud is deserving of a Hell In A Cell payoff, which can't be said for the past 6 HIAC's or so. Taker and Batista usually have good, exciting matches and I surely hope that this one goes beyond what they have already done. Has a possibility to be one of the better E PPV's this year, I just hope it doesn't turn out like another SummerSlam and only have one match that is worth while.

Zach Brown: Ok so Survivor Series is tonight, and in my opinion, the matches are kind of a mixed bag of quality. As always, I could care less about the 10 Diva Tag Team Match. But I couldn't be more stoked about Hornswoggle vs. The Great Khali. Talk about a 5 star classic…not. The Murdochs vs. Rhodes and Holly could be pretty solid considering I think all of those guys are pretty talented. The Triple Threat Match for the ECW title could also really deliver. Look for those two matches to be the sleeper hits of the night. Screw the Traditional Survivor Series match. It's a bunch of no-talent ass-clowns for the Face team vs. several talented wrestlers (besides Viscera) for the Heel team. The only reason I hate this match is because I just know that HHHitler's team is going over. And as much as I hate to admit it, Batista seems to deliver when he is paired up with Taker, so of course, that match should be the best of the night. I would be all about the main event if it weren't for the retarded stipulations. Maybe the match could deliver, but I just have a feeling that we are going to get a terribly overbooked finish. All I can say is that Orton better hold on to the title not only at Survivor Series, but for a long time afterwards as well.

Topic # 2 Jericho is making his return on RAW this Monday, what do you think of this?

David Martell: I have been waiting my entire life for this one moment. Yes I am over exaggerating but you really don't know how excited I really am about this. Jericho is my favorite wrestler. I have felt a little empty watching wrestling without him being apart of it. Supposedly in WWE magazine, he stated that watching the Cena vs. HBK match on RAW that went one hour made him fall back in love with wrestling. I don't know how true that is but that was a great match and I think it's great that Jericho kept up with wrestling. I hope he can make RAW better then it has been because if he can't do it, I don't know who can. I just hope that the first words that comes out of his mouth is RAW IS JERICHO!

Alex Mattis: Well this should be something, seeing the return of Y2J should definitely be a RAW moment. That being said, some questions arise. Is he going to have ring-rust? Is he even in decent shape? Many questions will soon be answered, but for the time being I cannot wait until Monday to see the return of Chris Jericho.

Zach Brown: So yeah, you could watch Survivor Series if you want, but the thing I'm excited about is that everyone is going to get to see Jericho come back for free. I'm so stoked to see Chris back in the ring once again. Maybe it's just a ratings stunt by WWE, but I could care less. The Saveus_222 videos were the perfect ad campaign for Y2J's return, even though it was spoiled by WWE magazine's cover about Jericho's return. I'm freaking out, my friends are freaking out, and you should be freaking out as well. Watch RAW on Monday and let's all celebrate the return of Lion Heart.

Topic # 3 JBL and John Morrison had a back stage altercation after Tuesday's ECW/ Smackdown tapings. What do you think of this situation?

David Martell: JBL has always been known as a back stage bully so this isn't very surprising. JBL works his ass off trying to put over everyone in the company and felt like Miz and Morrison did a bad job of making themselves and the other superstars in their match look good. It was very ballsy for Morrison to do what he did. I don't really know who was in the right here but I do know they should of taking the situation professionally instead of causing a ruckus.

Alex Mattis: Props to Morrison for showing some balls. JBL is seen as somewhat of a bully amongst some people in the wrestling community so Morrison standing up to him makes John seem like a pretty stand-up guy. I don't think much will come out of this situation, or that there will even be any fallout but it has definitely been something interesting to read about. More people in the wrestling business need to start standing up for themselves.

Zach Brown: This is really interesting to me. Apparently JBL berated The Miz and Morrison backstage for making CM Punk sound weak while they were commentating on his match. When JBL demanded that Morrison and Miz apologize to Punk, Miz apologized but Morrison apparently dropped the F-bomb and shoved JBL. First of all, that's awesome. I mean call it disrespectful or whatever you want, but if Morrison feels like he has a beef with JBL, so be it. Second of all, I don't know if it's JBL's place to call out Miz and Morrison like that. I saw them commentating on Punk's match and I thought that everything they were saying was absolutely hilarious. But even if it was disrespectful, JBL is not the dad of the WWE. He doesn't have to drag wrestlers into the back room and treat them like children and make them apologize to one another. The reason Morrison was pissed was because JBL got involved when he really didn't need to, and in that regard, I agree with Morrison. Maybe Morrison took it a little too far by getting a little physical, but hey, the fans love hearing about backstage arguments. All in all, I'm glad that Morrison stood up to JBL. Just as long as Morrison doesn't receive some sort of punishment, it's all good.

Topic # 4 Edge is making his return at Survivor Series this Sunday. Whatyou're your thoughts on this?

David Martell: I am excited about Edge's return. Smackdown really needs some main event talent badly. Smackdown has been hit bad the last few months and really needs someone like Edge to change its direction. Lets get that Undertaker and Edge feud going already.

Alex Mattis: guess this can be seen as some what of a good thing for the company as they have a "star" returning, but for me I couldn't care less. I think Edge is possibly the most overrated wrestler of the past 10 years so seeing him back stirs up nothing but bad things for me. Where will his place on the card be now? Hopefully low but probably not.

Zach Brown: I like that Edge is coming back because he had a really unfortunate injury that prematurely ended his title reign in my opinion. But there are a few things that really suck for Edge in terms of his return. 1.) No one knows who he is facing at Survivor Series, which is lame. How can I be fully excited for Edge when I don't know who he is wrestling?
2.) Have you seen his picture up on the Survivor Series page of WWE.com? Damn they really made him look ugly as hell in that picture. 3.) No one is going to care about his return or even remember when he came back because Y2J is literally returning tomorrow. Edge is definitely in Jericho's shadow which really sucks for him. But oh well, he'll get over it. With all that said, I'm glad Edge is back and I hope he soon becomes a contender for the Heavyweight Title.

Topic # 6 TNA has announced its main event for Turning Point. It's the Outsiders and Samoa Joe vs. Kurt Angle, Tomko and AJ Styles. What do you think of this match?

David Martell: This match looks like shit just because it has Hall and Nash in it. I might actually be more excited if Joe wrestled without a team on this one. TNA is continuing to make bad match choices and if this is the main event, I cant imagine what the under card looks like.

Alex Mattis: Once again I forgot to write about a topic so once again ill will admit to being an idiot.

Zach Brown: So it looks like the only match announced so far for Turning Point is the 6-man tag team match of Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, and Samoa Joe vs. Angle, Tomko, and AJ Styles. I really don't know how good this match could be. I just hate hearing about matches like this where there are clearly talented guys in the mix, but there are also guys that are either terrible or they're wash-ups. Nash and Hall should not be stepping into the ring whatsoever. They are totally past their prime, and they are at the point where they might injure themselves if they continue wrestling. Not to mention they must have loads of ring rust, and everyone knows that Scott Hall is terribly out of shape. I know I'm not going to be looking forward to this match at all, and it only has one possible solution. Fire Russo. Quoting David Martell.

That's it for this week. If anyone has a good idea of a wrestling gag gift I can get for Alex please send me an email. For the past two years I have been giving him wrestling gag gifts such as an autograph by Chris Masters and a clock that had Triple H and Vince on it saying F##K YOU ALEX. I really don't know how to top that so if you have any suggestions send them. Have a great week and have your popcorn ready for Jericho's return. Yes, I did steal that from T.O. Cya!
