Hello all. JT here to prove that A. I am still alive, B. TNA Turning Point is tonight, C. Yes, I still have a horrible drinking habit, and D. Steve Cook needs to lay off the Jim Beam Black when watching the Bengals! Ah yes, it's so nice when you attain a tenure at 411 where you're allowed to just type whatever you want and get away with it. Banana revolver monkey poo. See? Shall we?
TNA Turning Point 2007
MATCH # 1: TABLES MATCH: Team 3D (Rey and Devon) and Johnny Devine vs. The Motor City Machine Guns (Sabina and Shelley) and Black Machismo Match Result: Team 3D & Johnny Devine def. The Motor City Machine Guns & Black Machismo Match Length: 20:00 Match Analysis: Forgive me if I'm short this evening kids; I'm trying my best to do the recap as well so this will likely be brief in an attempt to get both up on time. This was a really fun match. Great way to start the PPV and a good effort from all parties to get the crowd involved. It can rarely hurt to get things going with a match where someone is guaranteed to go through a table and you also have high-flying action, right? Didn't matter who won here, things are looking okay so far as that was highly entertaining. Personal Enjoyment Index: 8.
MATCH # 2: Angelina Love and Velvet Sky vs. ODB and Roxxi Match Result: Love/Sky def. ODB/Roxxi via boot to face. Match Length: 7:14 Match Analysis: Can't say I enjoyed this. To much comedy when trying to legitimatize the women's division. Pussy pounding, wedgies, etc. The wrestling part was good, but there was too much coo-ki-ness inbetween which really took away from the match. Personal Enjoyment Index: 2.
MATCH # 3: James Storm vs. Eric Young Match Result: Eric Young def. James Storm via sneak rollup Match Length: 11:58 Match Analysis: As I said in the roundtable, both men are serviceable in a match like this. They don't need to get the crowd into it, they just needed to *keep* the crowd into it, which I thought they did just fine. There was a little slowness with the armbar and headlock stuff, but for the most part the crowd was into it and it didn't really help the show, but more importantly it did nothing to hurt it. Eric Young did a fine job of selling the shoulder injury, and Storm did a fine job selling that alcohol owns. Personal Enjoyment Index: 6.
MATCH # 4: THE FEAST or FIRED BATTLE ROYAL: 15 Men will compete for four boxes, three containing TNA title shots, and one, a pink slip: Chris Harris, Sonjay Dutt, Petey Williams, BG James, Kip James, Scott Steiner, Christopher Daniels, Senshi, Hernandez, Homicide, Shark Boy, Hoyt, Rave, Raven, Ron Killings Match Result: Petey Williams, BG James, Senshi, and Scott Steiner Match Length: 22:00 Match Analysis: Things like this can go one of three ways: Ugly, Decent, or Awesome. This wasn't ugly or awesome, but it was more than decent; a very entertaining match. A bit too much to follow, but that will happen with 15 guys. Sorry to be brief, but again, I'm trying to recap at the same time. Personal Enjoyment Index: 7.
MATCH # 6: 10,000 THUMBTACK MATCH: Raven and Abyss vs. Black Reign and Match Result: Abyss & Raven def. Rellik and Black Reign via Black Hole Slam onto tacks! Match Length: 15:37 Match Analysis: Not much to say here. It was a big man, hardcore type match. Typical stuff, but seeing people go through tacks is always good times. Nothing to write home about, but not detrimental to the PPV in any way and actually a pretty fun match. Personal Enjoyment Index: 7.
MATCH # 7: Christian Cage and Robert Roode vs. Booker T and Kaz Match Result: Booker T and Kaz def. Christian Cage and Robert Rude Match Length: 18:12 Match Analysis: Pretty fun match. Constant action and no real drag. Crowd was really hot for Booker and it really was just an entertaining performance. I again apologize for being short, but recap duties call. A PPV quality match that was a good setup for the main event. Personal Enjoyment Index: 7.
MATCH # 8: Kurt Angle, AJ Styles and Tomko vs. Kevin Nash, Eric Young and Samoa Joe Match Result: Samoa Joe, Kevin Nash & Eric Young def. Kurt Angle, AJ Styles and Tomko via Muscle Buster Match Length: 16:48 Match Analysis: This was a really good match in my eyes. Things kicked off with an AWESOME promo, and the good thing about it was there was very few breaks in the action. All men were involved and if they wanted to keep this thing going or set up any feuds in the future, they did exactly that. It's often cliché' that everyone gets to get in one good move or their finisher, but in this particular case it all fit perfectly. It was a good ending to a pretty good PPV. Personal Enjoyment Index: 9.
Final Thoughts on Show:
Match of the Night: I have to go with the main-event here, and I also have to count the promo as part of it. It was just good overall to me and I already touched on it so I won't repeat myself, but again good ending to a good show.
Trash of the Night: Women's tag match. As I said earlier, wedgies and pussy blows and …bleh. They are trying to establish that division and shit like that will not help. Luckily they had a pretty good women's title match later.
Final Analysis: I think this Pay-Per-View was pretty good for quite a few reasons. Above and beyond all they put over TNA. Samoa Joe's promo was designed to do nothing but put over TNA and TNA's home grown talent, something that TNA has not always made a priority. Another thing they did was – and as a Lions fan I am guilty of this sometimes when I shouldn't be – was give me a little hope. Let's be honest, kids. TNA has not had the best year. A December PPV can be looked at as a sign of things to come, and despite the year they've had, if this show was any indication, 2008 could be a pretty interesting year for TNA. That being said, it is still one show and we'll have to see how they build on the foundation they laid tonight. It would appear that "Turning Point" might be a very aptly named PPV, because if they can start to put on shows like they did tonight, it may be just that for this company.
Verdict: 7.5
Have a nice night all, I'm heading off to beer # [nope, it's really too shameful to say]!
