Why I Love/Hate Wrestling 12.09.07: Fantasy Booking (Vol. 2)
Posted by Jordan Linkous on 12.09.2007
PWI returns with another awesome edition!
I had mild success with my fantasy booking last week and decided to follow up with another edition, just to see how you like it!
After pulling a hugely successful debut rating of 2.5, PWI is back with another edition. We have more developments on the PWI World Heavyweight title, plus much more!
Professional Wrestling Infinity 12.5.07
As usual JBL and Dave Prazak are your announcers. We open the show with a recap of last weeks main event and the events with Kevin Steen. Later tonight we will have a number one contenders match for the tag titles as well as a TV title match. But now it is time for the title match.
PWI World Heavyweight Championship: Rob Van Dam vs. Kevin Steen vs. Samoa Joe
Before the bell, another superstar rushes the ring. It's Roderick Strong. He says he deserves to be in the title match as well. He lists of his resume and says his credentials speak for themselves. Paul Heyman is out and says he has an idea. He will put the guys in two teams. The winning team will compete for the title sometime down the road. The teams are RVD and Roderick Strong taking on Steen and Joe. N/R
The match starts right after the break.
Roderick Strong and Rob Van Dam vs. Kevin Steen and Samoa Joe
Steen and Strong start out. Test of strength followed by a headlock applied to Strong. Headlock takedown and Steen has Strong on the mat. Chain wrestling going on until Strong decides to get rough and hits Steen with some rough chops. Steen tags out to Joe and Joe hits Strong with a running kick. He turns around and RVD comes off the top turnbuckle and catches Joe with a flying crossbody. Strong and RVD double team Joe and hit a leg sweep clothesline combo. Strong with the pin now but Joe kicks out at two. Strong applies a front face lock as Joe tries to push his way towards the ropes. He is almost at the ropes but RVD kicks Joe's hand away. This prompts Steen to complain and the refs attention is on him so RVD comes in and pulls Joe to the middle. We go to commercial at 6:31.
We return at 9:50 and Strong has Joe in the Stronghold. Steen has seen enough and comes in and hits Strong with a big kick to the face. He pulls Joe to his corner and tags himself in. He rushes Strong and hits a big clothesline. RVD rushes and gets caught in a belly to belly. He picks RVD up and sets him up for the package piledriver but Strong takes him out at the legs. Strong grabs him and hits a powerbomb to the knee. Strong picks him up again and hits a back breaker and holds him in position on his knee and RVD hits a Rolling Thunder. They grab Joe and hit a double suplex. Joe is in the middle of the ring and Strong picks up Steen and puts him in the torture rack. RVD up top and goes for an Ode to the Bulldogs but Joe moves out of the way and RVD lands hard on the mat. Strong able to follow up with an inverted facebuster and pins but gets broken up by Joe. Joe throws Strong out of the ring and grabs RVD. He drags him to the corner and hits a face wash followed by the ole kick. He sets up RVD in the corner for the Muscle Buster but Strong in and dropkicks him from behind. Joe turns around and Strong goes for a giant lariat but misses Joe and knocks RVD of the turnbuckle and to the floor. Joe hits Strong with a Muscle Buster then gets pins him. One…two..thr... broken up by Steen. Joe gets in Steen's face and Steen hits him with a package piledriver. Steen up top and hits Strong with a 450 Splash for the win at 14:45. Steen stands tall and tells Joe he will see him around.
What an opener. The crowd started quiet but picked up once the action started going. I like how they set up RVD vs. Strong and Joe vs. Steen. The match was good during most of it and great during the last stretch. ***1/2
We see Daniels and Flair both walking to the in the back to their match, coming up next.
Ric Flair vs. Christopher Daniels
As Flair is coming to the ring Daniels attacks him from behind with a chair. He then hits the Angles Wings on the chair on the entrance ramp. He is nearly 60 years old Chris! Daniels picks him up for another one but Matt Cross, strangely enough, makes the save. Looks like we might see manager Flair. N/R
We see Abyss and James Mitchell walking purposefully in the locker rooms to Umaga's dressing room. They let themselves in to see AAE and Umaga sitting around. Mitchell says it was an interesting proposition but Abyss teams with nobody. Estrada tells him he wished that they had made the right choice. As they are leaving Abyss exits first followed by Mitchell, but Umaga pulls Mitchell back in and locks the door. We hear Mitchell yell as Abyss tries to break the door in. Right as he does Mitchell gets thrown through the wall and he is a bloody mess. Instead of tending to Mitchell, Abyss begins brawling with Umaga. They fight back and forth throughout the arena until Estrada comes out of nowhere to hit Abyss in the nuts with a lead pipe. Umaga hits a Samoan Spike then drags Abyss up against the aluminum wall. He hits a Buttalanche and Leaves Abyss lying there.
Chris Jericho vs. Austin Aries for the TV title next.
PWI Television Championship: Austin Aries vs. Chris Jericho
This should be a good match but I smell shenanigans. The match starts out fast paced as Aries springboards off the ropes and hits a Tornado DDT. He follows up with a jumping elbow drop. He goes up top to finish with a 450 but Jericho rolls out of the way. Jericho hits a Lionsault and pins for two. Jericho of the rope and hits a senton. That isn't enough, though, so he hits a senton off the top rope. He goes for a pin but gets two. Jericho picks up Aries but Aries hits him with a snap neckbreaker. He picks hit up again, irish whip followed by a clothesline. Aries to the apron, jumps of the top rope and hits a leg drop. He follows with an armbar but Jericho kicks him off and goes for the Walls of Jericho. Aries catapults Jericho into the ropes and hits a tilt a whirl backbreaker. Brainbuster. Aries up for 450 but Ace Steele runs out of the crowd and distracts the ref. Punk down now and Aries, while still on the turnbuckle, turns around to face Punk, outside the ring. Y2J pushes him off, and, in a sweet spot, CM Punk catches Aries with a Superkick in mid air. Punk rolls Aries back in and Y2J hits the Codebreaker for the win at 4:42. The rest of Aries's posse runs down, as does Cabana. The faces get the better of the heels this time. The best match under five minutes I have ever seen. ***
El Generico is in the back talking to Pac about the Cruiserweight Battle Royale next week. Here comes Rey Mysterio and AJ Styles. They throw in their input as well. Everyone thinks they are going to win. Teddy Hart here and he says he is the best.
We see a female backstage and she turns around to reveal Trish Stratus. AMAZING KONG~! shows up and stares her down. This prompts Mickie James to come out of nowhere and shove Kong. Big mistake. Kong gets a fire in her eyes as Mickie runs, followed by Kong.
We come back from commercial to see Kong and James in the ring. Heyman says they are having an impromptu women's match. Trish runs down to support James.
Mickie James w/Trish Stratus vs. Amazing Kong
Just to point out, Mickie is the hottest women ever. Kong rushes her but she trips her up in a drop toe hold. Mickie applies a single leg Boston crab but Kong powers out of it. Kong grabs Mickie and picks her up for a powerbomb but Mickie reverses it into a hurricanrana. Mickie up now and sets up for the Mick Kick, but Kong catches here lag in mid kick. Capture suplex now by Kong. Kong ready to unleash on Mickie when Trish comes into the ring. Kong stops her though and clotheslines her to the floor. Kong turns around to a Mick Kick. Mickie James up top and busts out a Flipping Leg Drop for the win at 2:11. Mickie checks on Trish after the match. *3/4
After the break is our main event, the number one contenders match for the tag titles.
The Briscoes vs. MVP and Ken Kennedy
Mark and MVP start out. Mark kills MVP with a dropkick. He follows up with a quick leg drop then tags out to Jay. Jay in and they hit a sick clothesline sandwich on MVP. Jay pins MVP but MVP kicks out at two. Jay picks up MVP for a suplex but MVP powers out with some elbows to the head of Jay and swings down for a DDT. He tags to Kennedy who comes in and they hit a double DDT and the MVP suplexes Kennedy onto Jay. Kennedy in control now and applies a sleeper hold. Jay fights and powers out and throws Kennedy into the ropes, but MVP tags in on the way. Kennedy gets caught in a belly to belly but Jay doesn't know MVP is the legal man. MVP hits Jay with a running lung blower. He pins him but Mark breaks it up. Mark has MVP set up for the Cut-Throat Driver but Kennedy clips the legs and MVP is able to get out of it. MVP lifts Mark up for a suplex and stalls. Kennedy to the top rope and hits Mark with a missile dropkick. MVP with the pin but Jay breaks it up. Jay tosses Kennedy and picks up MVP and sets him up for the J-Driller. Mark up and spikes MVP. Jay with the pin and the win at 8.24. Great match for the time allotted. ***1/4
Samoa Joe and Kevin Steen battle out to the ring as the Briscoes are celebrating. The Briscoes make their way back but the Kings of Wrestling interrupt them and beat them down on the ramp. Steen and Joe in the ring and Steen murders Joe with a lariat. He grabs a chair and hits a Package Piledriver on the chair. Paul Heyman comes out and makes Joe and The Briscoes vs. Steen and the Kings of Wrestling for next week. We see the faces down and out with the heels standing tall as we fade out.
Final Thoughts
I continue to enjoy this show more than anything. We have the Tag and World Heavyweight title scene shaping up as well as a decent midcard and tag division. I am interested to see where these feuds go. In only two episodes, here are the possible feuds set up:
Briscoes vs. KoW
Joe vs. Steen
RVD vs. Strong
Daniels vs. Cross (w/Flair)
The Saints (Cabana, Steele, Punk) vs. Inhumane Darkness (Raven, Aries, and Rave)
James/Stratus vs. Kong
Abyss vs. Umaga
Plus, with the emergence of new wrestlers in the cruiserweight division, the promotion as a whole looks amazing. Another great free TV show and this promotion is off and rolling. Make sure you send your thoughts. Stay Classy, 411Mania readers.
