The Un-Dream Match returns with a HUGE match!
By: Ryan Mancuso
Welcome to another edition of the "Un"-Dream Match. For those not familiar with this, these are matches so unique that you would never think of it while having a dream match discussion. These matches have an appeal to those who love the bizarreness of professional wrestling. We break down each match through categories of strength, speed, brawling, stamina, intangibles and willingness to cheat. Finally, we would visualize how these matches would play out. Sit back and enjoy the match that I am presenting today:
The Headhunters vs. Abdullah the Butcher & Big Daddy V
Brief Background:
Abdullah the Butcher started out his professional wrestling career in 1958. For almost five decades, Abdullah has been one of the most menacing figures in all of wrestling with his rule breaking style and blood soaked brawls. He has been in nearly every major wrestling company except for the WWE. Abdullah made a career not from winning titles, but being a hired gun to destroy the most popular wrestler of a promotion. Carlos Colon, Giant Baba, Terry Funk, Dusty Rhodes and many others have shed their blood in wars with Abdullah.
Big Daddy V made his first appearance in ECW, at my hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana, on July 10, 2007. Big Daddy V rolled over The Boogeyman and anyone else that has crossed his path. It seems that Matt Striker's new charge is on the path to winning a major title. Big Daddy V is very similar to his legendary tag team partner in both their rotund appearances and being hired guns whom would destroy anyone who crosses them.
The Headhunters are an internationally renowned tag team with success in Japan, Puerto Rico and Mexico. They have held tag team titles in CMLL, FMW, IWA Japan and W*ING. They have made limited appearances in the United States for WWE and ECW. Recently, they had been making appearances for AAA in Mexico and HUSTLE in Japan. The Headhunters are very unique because both men weigh around 350 pounds and are twin brothers. Don't let the weight fool you, both men are surprisingly agile as they will climb the top turnbuckle and connect with a moonsault.
Strength:
Abdullah the Butcher relies mostly on strikes and weapon attacks in his matches. He never relies on his strength to win matches. The Headhunters also do not view strength as a high priority. They use their strength more than Abdullah, but a body slam or power bomb by one of them is just a setup to them going to the air. Since the opponents are heavier, it would be best for the Headhunters to not try to pick them up for a slam. Big Daddy V enjoys throwing his opponents around using his Ghetto Drop, Spinning Side Slam and Gorilla Press Slam. He'll do this to opponents from the size of CM Punk to Kane. Big Daddy V will have no problem picking up one of the Headhunters and slamming them down. Big Daddy V gets the nod here for his team.
Advantage: Abdullah the Butcher & Big Daddy V
Speed:
All of these men are use to having their opponents run away from them. Speed is not a primary factor for any of these men. Abdullah has zero speed and just stalks his opponent. Big Daddy V has some speed with his avalanche attack to the corner and ability to catch his opponent off the ropes with a spin kick that looked to have come out of nowhere. The Headhunters are famous for using aerial attacks on their opponents. They can climb the turnbuckles quickly and come off using a splash, legdrop or moonsault. If a Headhunter connects with one of those moves, then it is usually lights out for their opponents. One of the Headhunters evading the Abdullah Elbow Drop or a Big Daddy V running avalanche to the corner is much more likely than their opponents moving out of the way of a moonsault or diving splash.
Advantage: The Headhunters
Brawling:
This is where the match gets most interesting. Abdullah is one of the founders of extreme wrestling with almost five decades worth of wild brawls. Abdullah will pick up a chair and hit it over his opponents head. He'll ram an opponents head into ringposts or tables. He could take out his trademark fork and stab his opponent in the head with it until blood is drawn. The Headhunters also built a reputation on brawling through their experiences for FMW, W*ING and IWA Japan. Some of these brawls include barbed wire and glass. Big Daddy V has the least amount of experience in brawls, but he could definitely hold his own in a fight. This is the hardest attribute to determine which team has the advantage. I will go with experience here and Abdullah trumps everyone.
Advantage: Abdullah the Butcher & Big Daddy V
Stamina:
Both of these teams definitely want to end their matches as quickly as possible. Stamina is not an important priority for either of them. Abdullah matches usually don't get past the 10 minute mark as they end by pinfall, DQ, countout or no contest. Big Daddy V also finishes his matches in less than 10 minutes. It is obviously best for both men to finish this match early. On the other hand, the Headhunters have won a lot of matches that have gone past 10 minutes. The longer the match goes then the better the chances are for the Headhunters to win.
Advantage: The Headhunters
Intangibles:
Since this is a tag team match, the biggest intangible here has to be teamwork. The Headhunters have a huge advantage here with them being together for nearly two decades. Big Daddy V & Abdullah have had tag team success with different partners, but together they have no experience teaming together. The Headhunters would exploit this by using double teams and isolating one of their opponents. They would also know when to make the save for a partner in trouble. This easily goes to the Headhunters.
Advantage: The Headhunters
Willingness to Cheat:
Abdullah has never cared about following the rules and will look for any advantage that he could find in causing an opponent pain. Big Daddy V is similar to Abdullah in that he cares more about hurting his opponent instead of winning. Big Daddy V also has no problem with Matt Striker, a well known thief of women's underwear, interfering on his behalf. The Headhunters are twins so it would be easy they could pull the old switcheroo when the ref isn't looking and not get caught. Since they are use to tornado style of tag matches where both men are allowed in the ring, they may not remember to pull this kind of trick. In a match where the rules are followed more strictly, the Headhunters can follow the referee's commands. I can't give the twins the edge here.
Advantage: Abdullah the Butcher & Big Daddy V
Who would win?:
I see this match playing out at first with both teams starting to fight before the bell rings and having a brawl in the crowd. The referee could easily just count both teams out during this brawl, but decides to give them leeway and just let them fight. As a result, Big Daddy V & Abdullah will come away with the advantage here. One of the Headhunters and Abdullah will be bleeding from this fight in the crowd. The match will actually find its way back into the ring and turn into a more traditional tag team match. The Headhunters will isolate Big Daddy V and use double teams on him. They get a near fall when the non-bloody Headhunter uses a diving splash off the top turnbuckle on Big Daddy V. The Headhunters get too confident in their double teams as one of them backfires and Big Daddy V tags in Abdullah. Abdullah will go nuts with chops to the bloody Headhunter's throat. Big Daddy V will take out the non-bloody Headhunter with a Samoan Drop. Abdullah will jab the bloody Headhunter with his fork many times in the head until he falls down. From there, Abdullah will run off the ropes and use his trademark Sudanese Elbow Drop for the upset victory.
If I can recall, the headhunters were also called the "SQUAT Team" in wwf, but i may be wrong

If it were me, I'd have booked a six ma tag between Yokozuna, Big Daddy V and Abdullah the Butcher (Team Tig Bitties) vs. King Kong Bundy, One Man Gang and Rikishi (Team MEOBDcvmlhmb - Main Eventers Only By Default , cuz vinnie mac loves his men big)

Headhunters had 2 different brief stints in WWE. First was them as the Squat Team during the 1996 Royal Rumble. Even when they tried to pull the old twin switcheroo during the match, they were eliminated very quickly. That was their only time they show up as the Squat Team.
They showed up again in 1997 later under another name, but that also did not last longer.

Good article. Headhunters were also in the original ECW around 1994 or 1995 and I believe was the first to use the barbed wire baseball bat in the States... Big Daddy V also has played other character mostly in the WWF. As Mabel, he was a part a WWF tag team championship team as a face. Later he won the King of the Ring in 1995 in Philadelphia where some of the fans started chanting "ECW ECW". (See The Rise and Fall of ECW DVD in the section where ECW invaded WWF in 1996 during WWF's PPV return to Philadelphia, "Mind Games" headlined by HBK and "Mankind" Mick Foley.) Mabel was repackaged as Viscera (thats where he got the "V" when he moved to ECW). There he was one of Undertakers minions in the Ministry of Darkness which also included "Farooq" Ron Simmons and Bradshaw (JBL) as the Acolytes (later the APA). Vicera would keep this persona while coming in and out of WWF/E for the next decade until they repackaged him as a pajama wearing "love machine" around 2005-06. In my opinion, except for going shirtless, being V as a modern day Abdullah is his best incarceration.
Good article and the back history might be redundant to some but bears mentioning to some since the article seems to portray V coming out of the woodwork in 2007.

I used the format that Bauer used for a previous Un-Dream Match column. When he gave the background on Papa Shango, he didn't mention that Papa Shango would become Kama and The Godfather later on. When presented this matchup while writing this column, I felt that I would only include what he has done as Big Daddy V so far. Not what he did as Mable or Viscera. If I did put into my mind that he was those previous incarnations, then the "Who Would Win?" part would have been different.
Thanks for reading!

I think I remember a all fat people match in All Japan during the 1999 RWTL. Only it was the Headhunters versus Vader and Stan Hansen. It lasted maybe three minutes with the Headhunters being squashed.
