411 Fact or Fiction 3.27.08: Flair vs. Michaels, Money in the Bank, Sting and More!
Posted by Larry Csonka on 03.27.2008

  • Welcome back to another week of 411 Fact or Fiction: Wrestling Edition! This week, two 411 writers go to battle as Ryan Byers enters the 411 Arena to do battle with Ramon Aranda!

  • And remember to go to TigerFlashGames.com and play addictive, free flash games when you're bored at work, school, or whenever! Ashish made this place because he loves you.

    1. The World, WWE and ECW Titles will all change hands this Sunday at WrestleMania.

Ryan Byers : FACT. For better or for worse, the Raw Title match is probably going on last, and you can't have a heel walk away from the final match on Wrestlemania as champion. We all saw that move go over like a lead balloon in 2000, and I think that the company is smart enough not to replicate the mistake. With Orton as a solid heel and HHH having heel tendencies during the build up, I'd imagine that we're getting a new champion in Cena. As far as the Smackdown Title is concerned, there's no reason to end the Undertaker's streak at this point. Edge is established enough that he doesn't need this notch on his belt, and, as he's never had a really memorable title reign, you may as well let UT have his unbeaten run as his big legacy in wrestling. If any title is retained, it'll probably be the ECW strap. This is because the match will be so low down on the card that the fans probably won't remember a heel victory at the end of the night. However, I think that the logical way to go with a battle royal producing a mystery title contender is to establish somebody immediately as a player on the ECDub show, and there's no better way to do that than a title win.

Ramon Aranda : FACT. The WWE needs to have a memorable WrestleMania and given who the champions are, it's only fitting that we have some new ones at the end of the night. I don't' see Orton holding on to the title while I'd hate to think that it would be Edge that would end the Undertaker's streak. Taker was the champion after last year's WM and would it not have been for his injury, who knows how long he would have held onto it. I say this is payback for working hard to get back. Chavo....well, ECW needs a kick in the pants so why not have an unexpected winner of that Battle Royal dethrone Guerrero.

    Score: 1 for 1

    2. TNA has booked Sting's most recently return smartly by holding him off for the live Impact this week.

Ryan Byers : FACT. Sting appearing has very rarely meant anything to TNA's bottom line, so I doubt that his showing up on this coming Thursday's show will do anything for the company's ratings. I also doubt that his participation in the War Games match will do anything to lift the pay per view's numbers. However, I have to at the very least give TNA credit for trying. Yes, this probably won't affect their bottom line. Yes, it probably would've been better if they'd built up his return for several weeks as opposed to one. You have to keep in mind, though, that this was the promotion who just last year ran an angle in which Sting left the promotion and then made his big return THIRTY MINUTES LATER. They're taking baby steps in the right direction, and I'll give them a thumbs up for that.

Ramon Aranda : FACT. Why give away something as meaningful as Sting's return when you have the big live show coming up this week. It's smart on their part to hold off on some things to make their first live show important. Remember Luger's Nitro debut? What if he had debuted a week or two earlier? It would have meant nothing for that Nitro.

    Score: 2 for 2

    3. MVP will be the man to win the Money in the Bank Ladder Match this Sunday at WrestleMania.

Ryan Byers : FACT. To answer this question, you need to look no further than how all of the participants have been booked over the last several weeks, as WWE isn't going to give a victory in this sort of match to somebody who they haven't been pushing beforehand. That means you can immediately eliminate all of the ECW guys as possible victors, just by virtue of the fact that they're on ECW. That's a show that regularly gets between a third and a quarter of the viewers of Raw, meaning that the wrestlers don't have the level of recognition necessary for them to immediately get a push on either of the larger brands. Doing so would be the equivalent of WWE stealing Eric Young from TNA and immediately turning him in to a World Title contender. It's just not going to happen. You can also eliminate Kennedy on the basis of his pre-match push. I'm writing this prior to seeing the final Raw before 'Mania, but on the two shows prior to that he was treated like a total jobber by Finlay (in his home state, no less) and then went MIA. Jericho was similarly punked out by the Big Show, while Carlito has been a persona non grata for years. Montel Porter is the only one left of the seven who has been treated like a serious contender over the last couple of months, and that's why he's taking this thing home.

Ramon Aranda : FICTION. Sure the US Champ has been rolling with his current title reign, so why spoil it by giving him the MTIB title shot? I'm thinking Kennedy takes this one to give him another shot...again...here's another guy who was injured and had to give something up ala Taker so give him the shot one more time. He deserves it.

    Score: 2 for 3

    ---SWITCH~!---

    4. Due to the respect both men share for each other, the angle going into the match and the fact that it is WrestleMania, Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels will steal the show this Sunday at WrestleMania.

Ramon Aranda : FACT. Aside from the Undertaker's streak, this has to be the only other match where fans will have emotions invested. Will Flair retire? Can HBK hold off Flair's streak? Will Flair keep rolling? I for one am looking forward to this match as much as anything else. We know HBK can put on a helluva match still, and Flair, well he's The Nature Boy, wooooooooooooooooh! Flair in an important WrestleMania match...you know he's bringing his 'A' game.

Ryan Byers : FACT. Ten years from now, when I'm no longer writing these sorts of columns and a new crop of internet writers is analyzing past WrestleManias, I have a feeling that they'll look back on this match and think that it was nothing special. Why? Because neither man is in his athletic prime, meaning that, if you analyze this match in a vacuum, it probably won't be as good technically speaking as either of the major title matches or the ladder match. However, this isn't a match that's built on athleticism. This is a match that's built on emotion. Quite frankly, I don't think that there's another bout on the card that has so many people who care so passionately about what happens, and, unless the in-ring turns in to a total debacle, I have a feeling that the finish here and whatever the two do post-match will receive the largest reaction of the evening. If a memorable Wrestlemania moment which is to be played for decades on end is going to be created at this show, it will be created right here, not in either of the big title matches, which frankly haven't received a build that makes them feel any more important than the title matches on any other WWE pay per view.

    Score: 3 for 4

    5. You support Konnan lawsuit against TNA.

Ramon Aranda : FICTION. Hey look, I'm Hispanic but Konnan doesn't have much to go on right now. I mean, c'mon, comments from Russo in 2000? It's a game of he said, she said and Konnan isn't going to win on this one. Rarely do you see these types of cases go in favor of the wrestler.

Ryan Byers : FICTION. I cannot say that I support the lawsuit. However, I also cannot say that I do not support the lawsuit. Frankly, I don't have enough information at this point to form an opinion, and I don't think that anybody reading this does either. (Unless, by some freak coincidence, you're Konnan or one of his lawyers.) One of my pet peeves about folks who discuss wrestling on the internet is that the second a legal topic comes up, they all begin throwing opinions out there as though they're Harvard Law educated judges with decades on the bench, not even realizing that they don't have knowledge of ninety percent of the relevant facts or, for that matter, the law. At this point, we don't know where Konnan has filed suit. Thus, we don't know which laws apply. We also have only seen his allegations of fact stated in very general terms. If we don't know which jurisdiction's laws apply and we don't know the facts, we can't provide informed opinions as to whether he has a meritorious case. Period.

    Score: 4 for 5

    6. While he isn't likely to win, John Morrison will be the man to shine in the Money in the Bank Ladder match this Sunday at WrestleMania.

Ramon Aranda : FACT. I'm not going to lie and say Morrison is my favorite wrestler or anything, but the guy can put on a fantastic match when he's motivated to do so and has the right opponent. With six other guys who can put on a show, Morrison will have a good opportunity to show off his talent and bump taking. You can also throw Jericho and MVP to the list of guys who may shine in this match but Morrison is the young lion and you know he'll get to pull off some acrobatic maneuvers.

Ryan Byers : FICTION. He might do a couple of cool moves, but I have a hard time saying that he's going to "shine" when all of the cool moves in the world won't result in a bigger push for him or any more fans caring about him. If you want an example, look no further than Shelton Benjamin, who has been involved in some of the best looking spots in MITB's history but is still lucky to get a mild reaction from WWE fans. Nobody truly shines in these sorts of matches unless they win and have that win pushed as something important in subsequent weeks and months, and that's not going to happen in Johnny Nitro's case.

    Score: 4 for 6

I strongly disagree with several things here. 1.) HBK and flair won't steal the
show, because the Undertaker vs Edge is on the card, and Undertaker and Edge
have made it a habit at stealing the show in the past. Now they are working
together. Also, it seems to me that Kennedy has no chance at winning the Money
in the Bank. Look no further than CM Punk for that one.

I totally disagree that Cena is the babyface in the WWE title match. You all
must be deaf if you think Cena is well received at every arena the WWE goes to.
His reaction is mixed at best.
HHH's reaction is always a loud pop, almost like Hogan's was in the later part
of his career. If, by your theory, the WWE title will go to a babyface, it
will end up with HHH after Wrestlemainia.

I know his backstage politics is what keeps you guys from liking him, but Cena
is not the babyface by any means. The WWE writers would be smart to turn him
    heel.

Kennedy DOES NOT deserve ANOTHER MITB victory. He completely BLEW it last year
when he lied about being on steroids and he was been complete shit in the ring
    the last 6 months.

I DO NOT agree that Kennedy should win MiTB and I don't think MVP should either.
He has a great feud going with Matt Hardy that needs to continue. If anyone
    should win, it's CM Punk.

Jericho wins the MITB and at the end of the night he REALLY SAVE US from John
    Cena... please

Cena is a face. People just hate him. But make no mistake, he is a face in this
match. HHH is the tweener and Orton is the heel. On which match will steal the
show, it's either MitB, HBK/Flair, or The WHC match. Taker can still bring it
and the crowd factor in the Flair match might make it showstealing. MitB always
has great spots. My money is on the WHC match. Edge has to step up if he wants
people to believe him as credible and not a chickenshit. Please though, don't
let the Rated Rmy interfere, this match needs to be one on one.

I dunno if MVP will win but he has to be one of the favourites. Carlito,
morrison shelton and cm punk are the only people that have zero chance. And yes
i know a lot of people love punk but seriously he has no shot, he has a good
future but common this is not his time, i think shelton has a better chance
then him and i don't think shelton has a prayer. Kennedy...maybe.
Jericho...maybe.. if i was going to bet i would say MVP. He is my least
favourite in the ring of all these people, but him and jericho are the best
characters and i think that could be the most important.

it only makes sense for kennedy to win it. mvp has a fued with matt hardy,
jericho just won the ic belt and had a shot 3 months ago that didnt draew big,
cm punk just lost a major belt, and the other 3 arent going to the main event
anytime soon. kennedys win in the mitb makes the most sense

The unnecessary hatred towards John Cena is getting old, kids. Let it go. Like
it or not, the guy is the biggest star the WWE has had since the Attitude era.
And unlike Rock, the 2nd biggest star during that boom, Cena cares about the
business and is here to stay.

He won't turn bad because he sells too much merchandise and with the latest
push towards getting more kids interested, he's definitely staying good.
Besides, Vince doesn't know how to write effective turns anymore. Cena will
    likely turn back within weeks.

I've bet money on CM Punk to win MITB. It's the most logical choice.

Posted By: Matt (Guest)  on March 27, 2008 at 01:58 AM

...unless the reason Punk just lost the major belt was so that he could win MitB
and be transferred to another brand.

i can drink Monster or Red Bull if CM Punk wins MITB. I can put the picture in
picture on and watch something with titties if MVP or Kennedy wins. I can
enjoy it if Jericho, Hardy or Benjamin wins.

but god help me, i will never watch another WWE program if Car-Fucking-lito
wins...although, i am pretty sure if he did then we could all pin exactly who
the newest member of the Vince McMahon 'Blowjob for a Push' club is.

(btw, the last member was...ummm...well...i guess that Car-Fucking-lito would
be the charter member (no pun intended))

I think that the match that will steal the show is either hbk flair edge ut and
the mitb as far a cm punk goes i doubt he'll win mitb but will be drafted to raw
soon after WM cena with the title doesnt bug me cuz its a business and he sales
    plain and simple

HHH, Taker and Khali will win the gold.
MVP won't win Money in the Bank because Matt Hardy will interfere and take him
out. I have no idea who will win it though.

I'm still laughing hard for people who are thinking than CM SUCKS will win
    anything this sunday .

It will be either Jericho or M.V.P and from what I've read on the SD ! tapings
for this very friday my money is DEFINITIVELY on the ONE who should get the big
rub this sunday and that will cut BEAUTIFUL Promos bragging about how he is
BETTER than ANYONE now that he is holding the black Briefcase.....MISTEEEER
    M.V.P IN DA BANK.....BANK ON IT !!!!!

    Taker 16-0

He will retire totally UNDEFEATED at Mania .

That's part of his legacy and why he is one of the greatests performers EVER .

He will be the one stealing the show AGAIN this sunday night .

Shelton Benjamin ? The guy who has zero build up going into this Mania (was
probably digging for "gold" in his locker room at RAW this monday) ?

Hahaha april fool jokes are already flying around here !

Morrison will be the show stealer no frickin doubt, he is totally reeking of
    awesomeness

Posted By: Kyle Hyde (Guest)  on March 27, 2008 at 07:44 AM

    Straight edge to boredom .

Nobody gives a flyin fuck about this overrated piece of shit just cheered by
some of the IWC who do think a man who is as charismatic as a stick and as
exciting to watch perform as Mae Young would get a big push in the WWE .

Let me laugh again, this sunday he will do what the only thing he is worth for
and that's doing the JOB again and getting punk'ed out at usual !

Posted By: Kyle Hyde (Guest)  on March 27, 2008 at 07:47 AM

I hope that everybody who is arguing that MVP won't win the title shot because
of his feud with Matt Hardy realizes that he can cash in the shot at any point
in the next YEAR. It's entirely possible for him to take a couple of months
after WM to finish screwing around with Hardy, after which he's still got ten
months to cash in his shot.

Posted By: Ryan Byers (Registered)  on March 27, 2008 at 08:45 AM

Oh please blake. I have a better chance of winning MITB than Shelton does.

I think in th MiTB match that Morrison may win. It works out in that he and Miz
can then defend the titles and Morrison being protective of the MiTB Breifcase
thus leading to their breakup and having a really good feud to establish The
Miz as a big name heel to Morrison face on ECW.

Posted By: Kevin (Guest)  on March 27, 2008 at 10:10 AM

I cant see them giving the MITB win to MVP i'd say Jericho, C M Punk or Kennedy
should get it. I like the idea about Jericho using the shot straight away and
    saving us from Cena.

And I am sorry Cena fans but he isnt anywhere near as big as they make him out
to be he might well be the most pushed guy in the WWE but The Rock and Austin
were massive when the WWF was in its boom period. I know Mr Cena will walk away
with the title belt at the end of WM and all I can say is yawn, the same result
as the last two years. I dont care if he sells merchandise to kids, Hogan and
Ultimate Warrior sold tonnes of merchandise but we know they werent that good
when we look back. Cena can do his hand wave and shuffle his knuckles but stop
trying to convince people who dont like him that they are wrong. We all have
our opinions and mine is that while wins over Michaels, Triple H, Jericho and
Kurt Angle were designed to get Cena over, I honestly believe when he steps in
the ring with those guys he seemed out of his element and it should have been
there where he takes a loss goes down the card a little while then comes back
after he'd gained some ring presence. Same goes for Orton they pushed him to
the moon and then when it was obvious he didnt belong there they put him back
down the card. Unfortunately they didnt do that with Cena, instead they jobbed
their best talent to him and he still gets booed.

Another thing I dont think the people that pay to attend the live events in any
way shape or form pay to boo cena which seems to be the company line now. I
think that they pay to see the other wrestlers on the card.

I'd like to see Flair win the match and then announce his retirement with
something along the line of 'it's time to retire, he'll never have a match as
good as the one HBK just gave him.' that'd bring down the house and cement both
    guys reputations....

Posted By: TexasHank (Guest)  on March 27, 2008 at 10:59 AM

I honestly think that CM Punk will indeed win MITB, I mean come on he's been
though so much lately losing the ECW Title to Chavo & crap. Plus with Punk
winning you know he's not going to stay in ECW much longer, hell that might be
why we didn't see CM Punk last Tues. on ECW. Taker's streak should remain like
the way it is now undefeated. Flair is gonna lost to HBK. As far as the WWE
Title match is concerned, at first I thought that Cena was going to win because
of his big comeback but then I thought it would be HHH because he hasn't had a
title run in almost 3 years but now I'm thinking Orton is going to retain the
title. I know it would hurt WWE if they let the heel end wrestlemania as
champion, but let's face it I'm picking Orton because he gets his ass kicked on
Raw every week but when it comes to ppv he always steps up in the clutch. &
1 more thing does anybody care about the Mayweather Big Show match I don't

Posted By: John (Guest)  on March 27, 2008 at 11:40 AM

If it wasn't for Y2J having the IC belt I would have picked him to "save
us" by pinning Orton after a brutal 3 way match against Cena and HHH.

IMO, the winner of UT vs. Edge will determine who wins MITB. I've got to go
with ether Kennedy or CM Punk butting leaning towards Kennedy.

Posted By: T-Mirk (Guest)  on March 27, 2008 at 12:05 PM

Here's food for thought for MitB....Remember last year, when Kennedy won the
briefcase and said he'd cash it in at WM24...and here we are at WM24, and he's
involved in another MitB match. Coincidental perhaps, and he's made an ass of
himself since then, but he's the one with no obvious feud involvement right
now, and it would hotshot him to the main event.

Man the Cena hate is reaching epic levels. Even though he is selling
merchandise like crazy and he doesn't have to pimp it out like H on RAW.

If you want the truth on Shelton, you should have watched ECW on Tuesday.
Carlito and Shelton threw it down in their match, which was one of the better
matches on free TV this year.

Taker. HHH. HBK. Jericho. Dreamer. Your big winners in Orlando on sunday. I
love the neither of the tag team straps are on the line, nor the IC or the US
title. I would have rather had a MVP v Batista match at mania for the US title
personally. If all things would have worked out Jericho v Hardy would have been
    off the chain for WM.

I find it weird that the no 1. contenders for each world title (US/IC champ)
are in a match to win a title shot. Aw how I do miss booking that made sense.

DaveJuk: You're delusional. Cena has put on great matches with everyone WWE has
put in front of him (including Umaga and fucking Khali). You can hate on him
all you want, but the guy is huge regardless of the state of the business.

I find it particularly amusing that you attack the ridiculous "5 knuckle
shuffle" when the "People's Elbow" was just as ridiculous and
Cena at least keeps his silliness realistic by not using it as a finisher! It's
even more ridiculous that you downplay his popularity vs. characters like
Warrior and Hogan when Cena is 20X the in-ring performer than both of them
    combined!

I'm not a Cena fanboy. I like the guy's work (although I think his overall
character worked best from '03-'05) and think he's a great ambassador to the
business. But most WWE fans only boo him because they think it's the cool thing
to do. Look no further than the reaction he got at MSG for Royal Rumble. This is
a place where the fans are very picky and will turn on you in a heartbeat. It's
the place Cena probably gets more boos than anywhere else. Yet, when he was
revealed as #30, the place went batshit and it took them awhile to realize,
"oh crap. I'm supposed to hate him. Uh...CENA SUCKS! CENA SUCKS!"
    Just sad.

I have no problem with people disliking Cena, he annoys me sometimes as well.
It's when people try to state that their hatred is based on Cena's talent that
it starts to grate, because he's as hard-working and consistently good as they
    come.

Anyone but Kenneddy to win MITB. I actually want to be entertained when I'm
watching wrestling. And a man who can barely wrestle and at best rambles on the
mic and at worst is completely incoherant just doesn't entertain me at all.

WM XXIV is going to be great. Undertaker/Edge and Michaels/Flair will see to
that. Also I HOPE IT RAINS!!! Imagine Flair ending his in-ring career and then
leaving while it rains on him. That'd be amazing!

Kennedy is the only one I see as a MITB winner. Unless CM Punk wins it and
cashes it that night to make the ECW match a triple threat, but the WWE isn't
    that dumb (I hope).

Fact or Fiction... 411mania has done a better job at hyping WrestleMania than
    the WWE!

    1. The only reason I'm buying this show is to see Flair vs HBK. Flair is my all
time favorite, him in a match with another all time great performer is one I
    wouldn't miss.
    2. The hatred of Cena is asinine. The problem is not his "in ring
talent" he is a well trained hard working performer. He only has
"three moves" because the WWE only ALLOWS him to have "three
moves." If they let him wrestle as he as capable of he would blow everyone
away. He has huge charisma, fantastic physical strength and huge intensity, when
they LET HIM SHOW IT. His old character "prototype" as corny as it
was, was better than the WWE character he does now. Killer Robobcop Cena is
much better than lame thug Cena. He would rock as a monster heel. That's just a
    fact.
    3. Undertaker will win. Even the stupid WWE has too much respect for him to
have Edge go over. Ugh. Plus he will probably retire within the next year also,
I would want him to go out undefeated he deserves it.
