411 Fact or Fiction 6.19.08: WWE and Carlito, TNA’s Next UK Tour, Booker T as the Next TNA Champion and More!
Posted by Larry Csonka on 06.19.2008
Week ONE HUNDRED and EIGHTY THREE features SAT, UNCLETRUNX and discussion of TNA’s World X-Cup!
Welcome back to another week of 411 Fact or Fiction: Wrestling Edition! This week, two men go to battle as SAT enters the 411 Arena to do battle with UNCLETRUNX~!
And remember to go to TigerFlashGames.com and play addictive, free flash games when you're bored at work, school, or whenever! Ashish made this place because he loves you.
1. Considering his recent comments and past displeasure with the company, WWE should just release Carlito and move on.
SAT:FACT. It never makes sense to keep a disgruntled employee around. Just ask the Philadelphia Eagles. Carlito has not done anything to set himself apart from the other wrestlers, so it is not that big of a loss for the WWE. Plus, I think that if the WWE does agree to promise him a good run, it is just sending the wrong message to the locker room. It will basically lead to more comments like Carlito's from other wrestlers who are dissatisfied with their positions. The smart thing for the WWE would be to cut their losses and release Carlito.
UNCLETRUNX :FACT. Sadly. I like Carlito, he's potentially a great entertainer but that potential doesn't seem to be any closer to being realized than it did three years ago. I'm not going to get into whose fault the situation is; Carlito did a similar public display of displeasure just over a year ago and seemingly was promised a push, which didn't happen, but ultimately, his tendency to go public with his gripes can only be a harmful thing. Besides, if his attitude and wrestling improves 6 months after he's been released, he can always be re-hired. Of course, the situation could all be a work to build up to a HHH vs. Carlito feud...
Score:1 for 1
2. TNA is being way too ambitious with the booking of their next tour of the UK.
SAT :FICTION. I do not think that TNA is being too ambitious; I think that they are being smart about their booking. TNA's recent house shows were a success in the United Kingdom, so it makes sense for them to come back with a much larger tour. Plus, I would have to assume that they are coming back because they made a reasonable amount of money from their current visit. With a much larger tour, TNA is probably very certain that they can sell out all of the venues and in return make even more money. So, that to me is smart booking.
UNCLETRUNX :FACT. But I applaud their efforts. Here in the UK, we have no big wrestling company. We have some great Indies, which I watch on a regular basis but nothing like WWE or TNA. As such, the UK is a ripe market for them now, and while they're probably over reaching by going for four nights in the UK's biggest arenas, I hope they make enough of a go of it to show the WWE that they can't have it all their own way over here. Besides, if they use and hire some of the UK based talent I've seen, it could be a bonus for both sides. However, in spite of all that positivity, I think they might've done better with two nights instead of four, or by using three smaller arenas and one massive arena.
Score:1 for 2
3. Adding Jeff Hardy to the WWE Title match at Night of Champions would be for the best.
SAT :FICTION. Adding Jeff Hardy to the WWE Title match at Night of Champions does not help the match at all. If Jeff Hardy is in the match, then everybody will know that he has no chance in winning this match and they will also know that he is the one that will take the pin fall. Plus, the main reason to buy Night of Champions is because of Triple H/John Cena II; adding Jeff Hardy to the match only hurts the main selling point for Night of Champions.
UNCLETRUNX :FICTON. Those who read my Low Road rants know that I'm a fan of old school booking, which means that I prefer one on one matches to three way, four way, six way, loser eats dog food on a pole type booking. While adding Jeff into the mix might spark a little more interest among his legion of fans, I see no benefit in taking away the one on one dynamic which has been built; this actually looks like it could be a great match if the build continues to be strong and both guys bring their top form. Plus, adding Jeff in means he either has to win the belt (most unlikely given his long term and recent history) or lose position and momentum by jobbing. I feel they need to focus on the two men in the match and continue the slow climb back up the ladder for Jeff.
Score:2 for 3
---SWITCH~!---
4. Booker T should defeat Samoa Joe at Victory Road to win the TNA World Title.
UNCLETRUNX :FICTION. I hope that Booker T does eventually wear the TNA belt, thus completing a rare WCW / WWE / TNA Triple Crown of major titles. However having finally put Joe at the top of the promotion, TNA would be taking a huge step back by having him lose the belt to another WWE "import" who has not been around all that long. Joe should, in my view, have a long reign, possibly a year or more. Booker could be the man to take the belt, but not now.
SAT :FICTION. TNA waited a long time to finally give Samoa Joe the TNA World Title. The least they could do is at least give him a decent run. So far, his most impressive title defense has been the King of the Mountain match and the rest has been forgettable. One of the other problems with giving Booker T the win at Victory Road is that it will basically be another win for a former WWE guy. Booker T should eventually get a run with the TNA World Title. Just not at Victory Road.
Score:3 for 4
5. D'Lo Brown's latest run with WWE will be nothing special.
UNCLETRUNX :FACT. Again, it's sad to type that but D'Lo was on the verge of great things before the disaster with Droz, and WWE are unlikely to boost him back to that level. I'd love to be wrong but I can't help but think he's getting a quick run in the promotion (possibly at IC/US title level) before they move him out to start working with the developmental folks. I'm sure he'll make a decent living at it and will be happy with his new position but for those of us who remember him from the Attitude era, I think we have to accept that things are never quite the same second time around.
SAT :FACT. I was never been impressed with D'Lo Brown in his earlier run and most wrestlers do not get better with age (Finlay being the only exception that comes to mind). The things that I am expecting from this run are maybe a United States title win or an Intercontinental title win and maybe a tag team title win. Basically, D'Lo Brown will have a decent run, but when we look back at this run, it will be nothing special.
Score:4 for 5
6. After last week's Impact, you are now excited for the World X-Cup.
UNCLETRUNX :FACT. The matches on the show were good, fast paced, enjoyable matches which makes a pleasant change for a wrestling show these days! Compare this to the McMahon game show rubbish and I can safely say that as a fan of wrestling I'm really looking forward to the World X Cup. I hope it lives up to the potential.
SAT :FACT. The two matches on Impact last week were very good and they have me really excited about the World X-Cup. In particular, The Motor City Machine Guns and Speed Muscle had a fast paced match and it was reminiscent of the old X-Division. I fully expect to see more matches like that during the World X-Cup, so I am definitely excited.
Score:5 for 6
These two finish 5 for 6! Come on back next week for more of 411 Fact or Fiction: Wrestling Edition!
When the hell did there even become a rumor about Jeff Hardy going to Night of Champions?
Posted By: Davis (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 11:10 PM
To Davis: There's a poll on WWE.com that asks if Jeff should be added to the match.
Posted By: Mina (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 11:40 PM
Probably when Hardy planched them two the other day.
Posted By: Heyyo (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 11:41 PM
WWE online polls are pretty much meaningless. it's a test to see who's more over and see who they should continue to push. actually booking decisions don't change because them execpt for Cyber Sunday.
chances are they're looking for next months main event and seeing if that 3 way would sell.
Posted By: Davis (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 11:50 PM
Spoiler Alert:
Dreamer wins ecw title only to drop it later that night.
Posted By: BigDaddyV is back (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 12:12 AM
If WWE is ever going to push Jeff Hardy they need to do it while he is sober. It would be good for him to pin Cena in a three-way and win the title, even if he loses it back to HHH the next night or even a week later. I'm sure he could stay sober THAT long...
I was next to some Brits at a TNA taping and I can tell you TNA is brilliant to market themselves overseas. Their fanbase is bigger in Europe than the US, especially in the UK. The fans I was next to were extremely knowledgeable and huge fans of all the heels, especially Robert Roode and Tomko. TNA will have plenty of asses in the seats.
Posted By: The 2nd Mouse (Registered) on June 19, 2008 at 01:20 AM
1) fuck carlito. the WWE should not release him, but put him where his talents will be best utilised. i am sure they need a ring hand to squeegee the sweat off the canvas between matches.
2) who cares about D'LO? unless he really learned something special from working in Japan, then really...just another less than stellar worker. of course, he is also not a whiny pussy like Mark Henry, nor a lazy motherfucker like carlito, so if nothing else he will just do his job.
3) The 2nd Mouse - the north american wrestling fanbase is sadly far to cynical and whiny to actually enjoy anything any federation does, unless it is some obscure, never or barely heard of selling out the local high school gymnasium with 89 people local indy fed that occasionally gets a TNA wrestler to pop in for a match when they run out of money for hookers or twinkies.
oh yea, to the IWC, Cena sucks not because he is a solid worker (which he is) or is an over the top money maker (which he is) but simply because to the majority of the Haters, he represents what they want to be.
a handsome, attractive young man who is famous.
that doesn't sit well with over weight, dungeons and dragons playing 43 year old virgins living in their mother's basement.
i envy you, living in a place where there are some fans left.
and good for TNA and WWE for taking the business to the people who really appreciate it. like the old saying goes, you don't know what you have until it is gone, and it won't be long before there are more overseas tours, with more shows per tour than one finds in the US...but that will probably just be blamed on Cena as well.

Who else aside from Booker T could possibly pull off the WCW/WWE/TNA triple crown? Nash, Sid, and Hogan?

technically Angle's done it

what about one of the greatest of all time. The UNDERTAKER?
Taker can pull a lard to a *** star match nowadays. He is 46
Posted By: dudetrunk (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 06:45 AM
Yeah, Angle's already done the trifecta with the WCW Title, WWE Title, and TNA Title to his credit. Before anyone asks, he beat Booker T for the WCW Title back in 2001.

The WWE Poll you were refering was.
Should Jeff Hardy be added to the WWE title match.
Well it ended with over 80 percent saying yes he should be in the match.
Posted By: I Wonder (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 08:22 AM
Yeah, The Big Gold Belt was still considered the WCW World title when Angle beat Austin for it. So technically, Kurt is the first.

tna teases me. they'll have the world x cup, the knockouts division and samoa joe. then they'll book some russo nonsense that kills all that momentum in one night.
the mcmg/speed muscle match was crazy hot.

Angle beat Booker T for the WCW title NOT Austin and Carlito should not be fired. Send him to ECW and if he cant do anything there then fire him and laugh when he wins the WWC title 6 months later.
Posted By: Darren (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 10:17 AM
Booker T should NOT win the TNA title not at Victory Road not EVER. Too many WWE castoffs showing up in TNA & winning the title diminishes its worth. HOWEVER, I wouldn't be opposed to Christian Cage regaining it as some point. But for the foreseeable future let Samoa Joe continue his dominance.

Posted By: Exar Kun (Registered) on June 19, 2008 at 10:29 AM
Next weeks draft will be the last chance I see them do anything meaningfull with Carlito.
There is a chance they send him to Smackdown and start something with Matt Hardy.
Posted By: Spike (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 10:36 AM
Angle has never held the WCW world title. He held the US title during the Invasion, but never won the WCW heavyweight crown.
On a different note, Darth Mortis can kiss my american wrestling fan ass. Your comments are extremely short sighted, keep that ignorant shit to yourself. Your comments are stereo-typical in the "it's cool to hate america" sort of way. Insulting a whole group of people due to the actions of few? Thats no better than hating on the nation of islam simply because some terrorists follow the religion. You wouldn't do that would ya? I bet you probably would.
All the 2nd mouse said was that TNA was smart to market to the UK, because the fans are knowledgable about the product. Then all the sudden Mortis is popping in with how cynical Americans are, and we are all fat 43 year old virgins?

I seriously can't tell, am I the only one not the least bit excited about a HHH/Cana one on one match? I realize it's only their second singles match and it's been a long time, but they've both been in the Raw main event for so long that it still feels stale and redundant to me. I'm not even ripping on them, I just feel deja vu about it. Jeff really screwed us out of a chance for new blood at the top.
Posted By: Shockmaster (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 10:48 AM
toddo, angle won and lost the WCW World title to/from Booker T. Austin cost Angle the title then Angle and Austin went into a program. Angle didn't win the US title until early fall.

""a handsome, attractive young man who is famous."

actually, Nash, i am just one of the few people in the IWC who isn't a mindless drone, and can admit that (even though i am not a Cena fan) that without him carrying the company over the last few years, we would be in the midst of a Repo Man title run with a Shark Boy rip off chasing his belt.
it must be awful, going through life unable to admit that even the things you don't want to be true are.
but that is also the point of view of an adult mind, so i can see why you don't get it.
now, Nash, go ahead and bust out an 'epic fail no buys i live my life repeating what i am told because thinking for myself is too much work and i don't want to hurt myself' and i will check back in to make sure you, or others, have made my point for me.

Toddo...pull your overinflated sense of indignation out of your ass and actually try and comprehend what i wrote. i understand that the US education system is near the bottom of the rest of the first world nations but not even you could possibly be that under developed intellectually.
i never once said that all americans were fat, lazy and 43 year old virgins. i did say that the majority of the american wrestling IWC are fat, lazy and 43 year old virgins who are too cynical to ever just shut the fuck up and try to enjoy anything any wrestling federation (outside the random obscure indy fed that only they heard of, but still manages to get Psycho Sid to headline.)
the ad hominem attack on me, whilst completely ignoring the points i laid out are just typical of those whose patriotism is so sadly overblown that it clouds everything else.
sorry if most of this post is over your head, i can't help that.
sorry if you want to read an attack on all america into something that didn't have one. blame your president for instilling a general sense of terror amongst americans greater than anything that 9/11 could have done.
but since you have no real argument other than 'oh look, he hates america' to something that had nothing to do with america, but the american contingent of the IWC...the IWC, btw, not being at all representative of ANY government anywhere ever...then perhaps you should get out your inflatable love doll, put in your national geographic video of hippos humping and consider thinking about making sure you know what you are commenting on before you hit the 'submit' button in the future.
now, i am sure that if you ask nice, you can get your mom to come down into your command centre and read the big words for you...

I hate how all you marks act like you know so much about wrestling and clamored for Joe to get the strap and he's effectively killing the company. The ratings have gone down since he's been champ. He can't cut a promo to save his life. The guy is just a failure. He's Chris Benoit Version 2. The internet loves him cause he does cool moves and has workrate, but what you stupid internet marks don't understand is the rest of the wrestling viewing public (which are 90% of the total that are non-internet marks) don't care about Joe.
The Net 'tards are wrong again. Go Joe go!
Posted By: MarksAreStupid (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 12:23 PM
Being a old fan of WCW. As far as Angle winning the WCW title it was a WWE product at that time and I don't think it should count as a WCW title win. I think WCW died the second WWE bought it. So Booker and Nash as the only ones right now that can complete the WCW\WWE\TNA trifecta.
Posted By: Sully (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 12:41 PM

1) Get rid of Carlito forever.
2) Do what's best for making $. If they're paying to see that NWE crap, they'll be all over some good TNA action
3) No. Enough of the 3 ways
4) It's in Houston, I say give it to BOOKER. They can run their typical shennigans and have Team 3D, Tomko, etc run in and cost Joe the title. Booker was talking retirement last year, so they need to let him run with it. Joe could win it back at Bound for Glory
5) What if he never even makes it on TV? Didn't they have Scorpio signed for almost a year, and he was never on TV. If they do put him on, I guess I see him maxing out at the Kennedy / Hardy level. I haven't seen him in awhile, other than in some of the import video games. Are we going to get a serious D-Lo or the comedy. Sky. High then Frog Splash with Chest Protecter on FTW!
6) Any word on dancing Alex Wright or is this little jacked up Koslov all were getting from that region?

You tell me where in that sentence you said the majority? Oh thats right you didn't, did you?
You even go on to say: "i envy you, living in a place where there are some fans left"
further indicating that you think all American fans are bad.
Where in my statement did I say I was speaking for all americans? I said you can kiss my American wrestling fan ass. Therefore speaking as an american wrestling fan who took offense to some fuckin troll on the web attacking all american wrestling fans.
Nothing of the government was brought up until you just did it. Bottom line is you said The american wrestling fanbase, I am part of that, and I enjoy most aspects of the shows very much. I took offense to some arrogant asshole insulting the whole based on a few of its parts.
Look at me, I got word of the day toilet paper, and used 4 days worth of shit wipe to make a point on the internet.
No matter what you say, what you did is short sighted, narrow minded, and utterly ridiculous. You judged an entire group of people based on the actions of a few.
Oh, and I just figured out how you came to the conclusion that I thought you were attacking all americans. It had to be this statement I made: "Then all the
sudden Mortis is popping in with how cynical Americans are, and we
are all fat 43 year old virgins?"
That was a mistake, as it should have read: Then all the
sudden Mortis is popping in with how cynical American wrestling fans are, and we
are all fat 43 year old virgins?
I apologize for coming off as seeming like I was attacking you for attacking my country. Believe me, I know who is to blame for all of our countries problems its who we "elected".
but it doesn't change the point that you did in fact aggress towards all american wrestling fans, which is wrong no matter how you slice it.
There I admitted my mistake, will you do the same?
Oh, and to Darren, thanks for the correction on Angle and the WCW title, I must not have been watching as attentively in that particular era.

If there's ONE wrestler who has improved as the years has passed out it's definitively The UNDERTAKER .
The guy is easily the best wrestler in the world right now and proved it AGAIN at ONS .
BTW he is 42 NOT 46
Booker T deserves a long and entertaining reign with the TNA Title
Plus if he is NOT the one to unseat Joe who would be big, credible and over enough to do it ?

Dear MarksAreStupid (Guest), My step dad, who I would consider a regular fan, was flipping channels a few months ago and saw a Joe match and was supremely impressed. So impressed that he came and got some of my FIP and TNA DVDs to see what he was all about. Just a singular example that he is attracting some old school fans that had lost interest in WWE's product.
He's not the only one I have quite a few friends who had been fans and are just now hearing about this Samoa Joe character and getting interested again.
