WOW!!!!! I take one week off from writing my article, and all hell breaks loose in WWE Land. I was recently talking about when was the last time I was truly surprised by something in wrestling. The time frame had to be during the Monday Night Wars. At that time, both major companies were trying to outdo one another, while the Internet was in its infancy.
Since the end of the "wars," there have been very few shocking moments in wrestling that the Internet hadn't already reported to the world wide web. Last Monday night, the WWE finally beat the Internet, and was able to actually stun its audience.
First, Jim Ross gave his farewell speech to open RAW. During the speech, Edge came out, and the entire crowd had to expect another JR beat down in Oklahoma. What we got was something far more exciting.
Edge gave us one of the best heel promo that we have seen in a long, long time. By the time Jim Ross left the ring, Edge was oozing with heat. The best part of the "heat" was that he was able to obtain the fans' hatred with only his words. He didn't go for the cheap jeer by popping everyone's favorite BBQ schiller. No. His dialogue was his sword on this night.
Then came a shocker that most fans wouldn't have expected two weeks earlier. CM Punk cashed in his Money in the Bank title shot to bring the World Heavyweight championship back home to RAW. The execution of CM Punk's title clinching victory was perfect. In the past, Edge cashed in two Money in the Bank briefcases once he noticed the champion was at his most weakened state. CM Punk decided to turn the tables on Edge, and do the exact same thing to him. From a continuity standpoint, it was the perfect way for Edge to lose his title to a Money in the Bank holder. Plus, Edge still remains strong, and can have an issue to complain, as the champion who unfairly lost his title.
I would be lying if I didn't admit that I was worried that Punk would be dealt the same fate as Chris Jericho did on the April 17th, 2000 edition of RAW when he beat Triple H for the WWF World title, only for it to be taken away from him ten minutes later. Thankfully, the WWE is keeping the title on Punk at the moment. I'm glad, as they need some fresh meat at the top of the roster.
I like that the WWE has had their top faces endorse Punk as champion. Now, what they need to do is give him some big wins to make him a legitimate World titleholder. If you remember when Triple H first captured the eagle-winged belt, he was never any higher than an upper mid-card wrestler during his career. It took him a few months as champion, and victories over Mick Foley, The Rock, and Steve Austin (plus a "wedding" to Stephanie McMahon) that finally turned Triple H into a legitimate World champion. By having Punk beat Batista, JBL, and John Cena, CM Punk would be looked at as a true World champion in the fans eyes.
While I am thrilled that the WWE pulled the trigger on a Punk title reign, I am saddened that Edge lost the title. In my opinion, Edge has been the best performer in the WWE since the day he cashed in his first Money in the Bank briefcase. Now that he is on SmackDown with Triple H, I fear that he will be buried underneath Vince McMahon's son in law. Before Punk won the big gold belt, I figured the best long-term plan for the WWE would be for Cena to regain the WWE World title from Triple H, and have John feud with Batista at WrestleMania 25 for the title. I also thought that Edge should keep his title, and drag out his potential match with Triple H until WrestleMania as well.
Since the WWE announced that Edge will challenge Triple H for the WWE World title at the Great American Bash, I'm hoping that he gets the belt back, and somehow drags out his feud with Triple H until Mania. However, I have a bad feeling that the Undertaker will spoil my plans. Even if the dead man does cost Edge the match at the Bash, I hope the WWE doesn't push Edge to the back burner while turning SmackDown into "The Triple H Show."
After turning RAW over to new acts like CM Punk, and Kofi Kingston, while still featuring old favorites, the WWE needs to allow their top veteran to take the reigns on SmackDown. That top veteran isn't Triple H, but Edge: The Rated R Superstar!
Bret Hart/Shawn Michaels is (according to this tournament) the best feud ever.
with out it, Evil McMahon doesn't exist to fuel the McMahon/Austin feud.

I have to go with Austin/McMahon for the overall win.

It's hard to argue with Emulamster's logic, but Austin/McMahon produced far more compelling television.
THE WINNAH...
Steve Austin vs. Vince McMahon

Austin/McMahon
Not even close.
Hart and HBK didn't even have long drawn out feuds on TV because they couldn't stand each other. A terribly boring and overrated Mania main event and a memorable moment between Vince and Hart do not the best rivalry make.
Austin/Vince all the way. Best wrestling TV ever...hell as a side effect of their corprate/antiboss feud we got Foley's main event push and Corporate Rock winning his first title.
not even close

Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels? Best feud ever?? The one that drove viewers away until the rise of Stone Cold and the Rock?? Yeah fucking right. Learn history and get back to me.

Austin/McMahon without question.
Michaels/Hart is one of the most overatted fueds of all time mostly because bret hart is one of the most overrated wrestlers of all time. yea thats right i said it, fuck bret hart

Austn/McMahon. Not even close. Hart/Michaels was more intense behind the scenes than on screen.

DEFINITELY Austin/McMahon!!!!

Austin/McMahon.

Hart/Michaels lasted like six years though. They had the first ladder match in WWE, the champion vs. champion match at the 93 Rumble. HBK was the substitute for Lawler in the Harts vs. the Knights Survior Series match. I mean, Austin/McMahon really blew wrestling up, but at least HBK and Hart wrestled each other and had great matches. I always found something interesting. No matter how much they hated each other, they would never let that get in the way of tearing the house down together when they were paired up for a match. I don't know if it was oneupsmanship or just their egos wouldn't allow themselves to have a bad match.

Austin vs. McMahon
Bret/Michaels is significant because of the screwjob mainly, and WWE's refusal to ever let it go, but it essentially destroyed Bret's entire life and they hardly interacted on TV, as the Hart Foundation was essentially feuding with EVERYONE at the time. Their rivalry before the hate was great, and they put on some classic matches, but Austin/McMahon is the reason we aren't all watching WCW right now.

Austin/McMahon was not only a more heated feud, but personified the Attitude-era. The fans could identify with Austin because most of us work for a Mr. McMahon in real life. Vince knew this and played the villain to perfection.

Steve Austin/Vince McMahon

I wish I would have seen this earlier. Did they include the VonErichs/Freebirds feud?
Or Hulk Hogan/Randy Savage?

Hart/Michaels all the way

Austin/McMahon
i like both feuds a lot but i have to go with Austin/McMahon
Posted By: RJ (Guest) on July 09, 2008 at 12:25 PM
I vote McMahon-Austin.
Hart-Michaels was the better real-life feud (and had better matches), but McMahon-Austin single-handedly drove the Attitude era and was responsible for nearly all of the 1997-2000 wrestling boom.

Hart/Michaels was a great feud. The creation of DX and the war between Canada and the USA was propelled because of it.
But nothing was as epic as the Austin/McMahon feud. This was THE reason to watch the WWF(E) back then. During that feud, it was actually "cool" to watch wrestling. Austin t-shirts were everywhere. I owned two myself! The whole flippin' reason my dad switched from cable to satellite dish was to watch that feud. The "Everyman" vs. the tyrant boss.
Are you kidding? No feud will ever, EVER, rival that of Austin/McMahon.

Austin/Vinnie Mac

Austin/McMahon all the way.
The main reason is that even with the Montreal Screwjob, most of the Hart/Michaels feud took place backstage and fans wouldn't know the real details until years later via books/Internet/and that Wrestling with Shadows doc.
Posted By: JLAJRC (Guest) on July 09, 2008 at 03:48 PM
Hart/Michaels, because when you were watching it, you could never be sure just how much was real. At no point in Austin/McMahon did you really think that Stone Cold would drive a beer truck over his boss.

Hogan/Taker in 2002.
Posted By: The Stealer (Guest) on July 09, 2008 at 04:29 PM
The best Money feud was Tito Santana/Greg Valentine or is that too old? Nobody drew what they did as long as they did.
Posted By: Guest (Guest) on July 09, 2008 at 05:17 PM
Austin/McMahon EASILY
The entire Hart/Michaels feud stands on the Ironman match. The Screwjob was VINCE'S doing so I dont count that. The promos and heat between them was already natural so it required any real selling from either.
Austin/Vince was basically two characters making one another through this feud. Without one, the other would NEVER have reached the heights they did. In my 30+ years of being a fan I cant remember caring more about a feud and each man involved as these two. I consider the entire Austin/McMahon story arc to be one of the BEST written, performed and presented storylines ever.

it's funny on how people go for a feud in which had piss weak matches between the too.. Yes Austin/Mcmahon feud was good, but only in Promo level not In-ring Wrestling level... Plus the End of it was b/shit, Vince wasn't allowed to be on TV, but bam he shows up in under 2 months...
But My favourite rival would Be either HBK/Hart or Rock/Austin...
These 2 draw money and gave you atleast *** 1/2 - **** 1/2 Matches

Austin vs. McMahon brought the WWE out of the doghouse and into the penthouse and made the WWE into the biggest wrestling company in history. That is a fued that has got to be ranked #1.
Also Bret and Shawn hated each other in real life but that doesn't make for a great fued on television and we didn't see a lot of what went on between them so it didn't relate to the viewers.
Posted By: Supermannsc (Guest) on July 09, 2008 at 10:47 PM
Gotta go with Austin / McMahon. While Hart and HBK gave us some classic matches to be sure, the storyline itself often fell kinda flat. With Vinny Mac and Steve-O, though, you had possibly the two biggest hams in the business, the two biggest outsized personalities. Week after week after week, you really never knew what was going to happen. Vince may have become a heel due to Montreal and the HBK-Hart match, but he developed into arguably the greatest heel of all time during the Austin era. The two were really just the perfect match of personalities.
So, yeah - Austin/McMahon. But I still protest the fact that Lawler/Kaufman didn't get seeded to begin with.

i personally prefer rock/austin.....it's only the feud that was the main reason why wwe is still around
Posted By: cj (Guest) on July 11, 2008 at 09:48 AM
I gotta go Hart/Micheals.
SCSA/McMahon was awesome. It was the reason to watch the F back in the day. There wasnt Attitude without it. Weekly interaction and the relationship the fans could draw from SCSA was unparelled. But...
Hart/HBK actually hate each other. The 1st ladder match in WWf history? The Survivor Series matchs in 92 and 93? The build to Ironman match and the match itself? Losing your smile? DX v Hart Foundation? Sunny Days? Montreal? Shawns shoot interview? Brets shoot interview? Brets book? How do these things not make this the greates fued ever? Look past the wrestling ring and the TV cameras and yopu will see pure hatred.
Also, if it wasn't for HBK refusing to put Bret over at Mania, and Bret refusing to drop the belt in Canada, would there even be a Mr McMahon for Austin to fued with? I think not.
Posted By: Zeke (Guest) on July 12, 2008 at 12:42 AM
Gotta go with Austin/McMahon 4 FTW
Posted By: Voter35 (Guest) on July 12, 2008 at 06:20 AM
- Bret Hart/Shawn Michaels
imagine a face-off between these two in the ring today; damn that would be great.
Vince/austin was uber entertaining between interviews, brawls and what not..but matches were uninspiring!
hart/michaels had great matches AND great shoots/interviews, but inspite of all that, their backstage lives and dislike for one another made wrestling at the time so great, and even lookin back now, still the most interesting thing in wwe history (imo ofcourse).
