Wrestling’s 4R’s Tuesday Edition – 12.02.08: TNA Impact and WWE Smackdown Reviewed!
Posted by Larry Csonka on 12.02.2008
It’s the Tuesday Edition of the 4R’s, and my beat the clock time was 1:27. In the spirit of full disclosure, Randle was my opponent and really, he’s no Vladimir Kozlov.
How the 4R's of wRestling Work! Here is a quick explanation of the 4R's. The column will run TWO times a week. On Tuesdays I will discuss TNA Impact and any PPV's, while my partner in crime Jeremy Thomas discusses WWE Smackdown. The column will run again on Friday's, covering WWE Raw, with Jeremy Thomas as well as ECW on Sci-Fi by myself. If there is a PPV that weekend, I will also run the RETRO R's of the show from the year before as well as address some comments when time permits. I will group my feelings on the shows in various categories: The Right, the wRong and the Ridiculous. The Right is stuff that worked very well: a great promo, a great match and so on. PuRgatoRy is a section between the right and wrong. It shows equal traits from both sides that cannot be ignored and need discussed. It is not a bad place per say, as things can get remedied or go the wrong way the very next week. The wRong is what it sounds like: bad matches, bad or boring promos and so on. The Ridiculous is stuff that had no right on TV: Stupid angles, Diva searches and so on. And there is always a possibility of a 5th R, which is as bad as they come, unless you are TNA. They have a special R all of their own, the 6th R; the Russo-FN-Riffic~! This column is supposed to be analytical, and at the right time very critical of the shows, it was the whole reason it was created. This is not a "mark" column, nor a "smark" column, my goal is to analyze the show from many different fronts, reward the good and call out the bad. I will not apologize for my opinions, they are as they are, whether positive or negative.

The Right:
Opening Talky Bit/The Drama of 3D/The Decision: Overall I really liked the opening it of the show, the drama that happened during the show and then the resolution at the end. Sometimes TNA rushes through angles too quickly, and while I think that they could have started this at least a week earlier and built it up a little more, overall this worked for me. It all started with Rhino coming to the ring with Joe, AJ and the goof troop. He stated he had a new name and logo for them…TNA FRONTLINE~!
YEAH HA HA HAAAAAAA! All right, joking aside, Rhino is fitting the bill perfectly right now as an organizer and motivator for the group. Some people want to get picky and say that he was there at the end of ECW only, but really, that's nitpicking. The point is that he spent over 18-months in ECW, he was the guy that people didn't think deserved anything and he was there until the end and held the company's singles titles when the doors closed. So the troops are organized, but Rhino felt that they needed experience to help them. Part of me disliked this a bit because he basically said, "You guys suck and we need winners" but he did say it in a way that he put them over and said that they would be there soon, and that some help was all they needed. The MEM came out, there was ballyhoo and gay jokes, Angle said that everyone loved them and wanted to live through them because their (audience) lives were completely pathetic and no one would join them. Rhino promised to kill him and we had a good opening to the show.
The issue of trust was now going to be on display as Rhino took Joe and AJ to meet with the guys he wanted to bring into the fold, team 3D. Ray joked about the Patton like speech Rhino gave and said he knew he'd be here to see them. AJ and Joe wanted to leave because they said they couldn't trust them, but 3D was willing to listen because it was a business. Rhino wanted to know if they had another fight left in them like they had back in ECW, but when Ray asked what was in it for them Joe responded by saying that that it's a matter of respect and that the only thing that is in it for them is doing what's right. Joe said they had two hours, which offended 3D's because they don't answer to anyone. They even said that the MEM was right about the lack of respect here in TNA.
This of course led to the Mafia getting involved. Steiner told them that the MEM had an offer they couldn't refuse, and since they heard what Rhino, Joe and AJ had to say, and since they are businessmen, they would listen to the MEM. The one thing I liked about the meeting was that 3D smartly asked why they were good enough to join now, but not when the fight began. Angle kissed their asses and said he was saving the best for last. Steiner's line when he gave them the suits, "they're custom-tailored husky so they should fit" was tremendous.
So we then came to the man event interview (FUCKING YAY) and decision time. Rhino, AJ and Joe were out to the ring and wanted the answer of 3D. But the MEM was out to ruin the party as they announced Ray and Devon as the newest members of the MEM. Ray gave a great promo about wanting their legacy to not only be as the most decorated tag team of all time, but also to be along the lines of Road Warriors, The Steiner Brothers, and Harlem Heat. That they want to be remembered as two warriors and two hard working guys who gave it all when they were in the ring. That they were two of the men who built one of the most legendary companies of all time, and that they want to be remembered as part of the greatest collection of wrestling champions that have walked God's Green Earth. But as he was discussing the Frontline having balls, he and Devon opened their coats, which revealed those collapsible batons, and then revealed they were with the Frontline. They put the ASS WHOOPING on the MEM and for the first time the faces got the upper hand. Sure it would have been cool for it to be Daniels, Ki, Kazarian or others to be a part of this, but they aren't. They got away from the originals thing right away, and this is what we got. It isn't bad, we're getting good promos and it has made for some good TV. Yes I know it was like when 3D swerved the RTC, and yes I also feel that since this is TNA that they will pull the old double swerve at the PPV and I will be pissed if they do it just for the case of doing it, but I am being optimistic. With Beer Money as the tag champs, I feel that a face 3D will be challenging them down the line. Please don't swerve for the sake of swerving guys. Lock Vinnie Ru up in a closet or some shit.
AJ Clears the Air/Sting Doubts: One of the angles they played between AJ and Sting was a mind game, where Sting would bring up AJ's father as a way to mess with his focus and cause anger. I liked the battle of mind games here, but you just knew that Sting wasn't telling the full story. What we discovered is that AJ wasn't thrown out of the house for being disrespectful, no, his father was a drunk and beat on his mother, so AJ beat his father's ass for the safety of his brothers and his mother. While Tenay can be annoying, his facial expressions here were excellent. A look of disgust yet concern for the pain AJ had been through. When this part was over they shot to Sting and Nash in the MEM locker room. Nash didn't care and felt AJ likely deserved it and was just full of shit. But Sting, showing compassion, was worried that he was wrong as he asked, "what if he's right?" I just dug this segment and I felt that it added depth to the AJ/Sting part of the feud.
puRgatoRy:
Dutt vs. Hernandez vs. Rhino: For what we got to see, this was a fun little match. Dutt played the pinball perfectly for both Hernandez and Rhino, all the time laying up his dick heel character. I enjoyed the stand off and battle between Hernandez and Rhino, Hernandez still would have to improve to have an effective run as a singles competitor, but the guy is over and gets a great reaction when he is in there. Rhino got the win over Dutt, which was the right call and gives Rhino momentum. Unfortunately this was a Reader's Digest version of a really good 10-minute match. I have said it before and I will say it again, you cannot expect people to care about matches that you say are important if you only give them 3-4 minutes. Also, how in the hell can you expect guys to get over in 3-4 minutes? It is so frustrating.
Creed vs. Kip vs. Shelley: Much like the above match, this was another fun little bout right here. Shelley is a great dick heel in there, I particularly loved him allowing Kip to beat down on his "Front Line" partner. Creed has a great charisma and always gets a good reaction. I thought that they all worked hard, even Kip, and Shelley getting the win was excellent; especially with him pinning Creed and holding the tights. DICK HEEL! But...I have said it before and I will say it again, you cannot expect people to care about matches that you say are important if you only give them 3-4 minutes. Also, how in the hell can you expect guys to get over in 3-4 minutes? It is so frustrating.
Rave vs. Bashir vs. Morgan: Once again we had another fun little match here. Matt Morgan looked great as he got to show off and use his size well, although since he wasn't winning I am not sure I would have used him here. I really liked that Bashir as the X-Division Champion not only won the match, but won the match CLEAN. Occasionally the heel needs that clean win, and that is a good thing. With Bashir's win, they also played on the Sewell angle more, with Bashir demanding that Sewell raise his hand in victory multiple times. And I will say it again because it keeps happening, , you cannot expect people to care about matches that you say are important if you only give them 3-4 minutes. Also, how in the hell can you expect guys to get over in 3-4 minutes? It is so frustrating.
Hey Alex Shelley…: This is just a short one. I like Alex Shelly and I think he is doing a great job of being the over confident and disrespectful smart-ass. But just like when I complain about HUNTOR and how he speaks to people, Shelly needs to be careful when discussing AJ, Joe and Foley. There is a point to being obnoxious, and then there is BERRYING. When he discussed buying AJ a personality, made fun of Joe's weight and said that Foley looked like the CEO of Bum Fights, yeah it's funny but it also may be too much. The thing is that Foley can take it, because he is and always will be over. But I personally think you have to be careful with AJ and Joe. The MEM is already getting a lot of cheers, and we don't need to make AJ and Joe look like shit. It's just an observation.
Rhino vs. Bashir vs. Shelley: The finals of the Turkey Bowl was an ok match, but I honestly didn't enjoy it as much as the qualifying matches. It wasn't bad, but it lacked the flow of the other matches in my opinion. There were odd spots where it was obviously that they were waiting for someone else. This bout got a groundbreaking 5-minutes of action, none of that 3-4 minute bullshit here. Rhino winning was the right move as he is being rebuilt. Shelley losing was the right move. Because it allowed Foley to humiliate him as promised. Bashir got a win on the show and is protected by not taking the pin here, which is good for him because he needs rebuilt. Not bad, not great; its purgatory.
The wRong:
20:00: I'd like to think we all know the drill by now. TNA is supposed to be the alternative, they try to be different, and they claim to be the wrestling promotion. So I am their conscience, their wrestling stopwatch. Each and every week I keep track of the time of wrestling on the show, and discuss it here. The in ring time is like a yo-yo here lately. This week we only got 20-Minutes of in ring action, and it was really a joke when you have matches getting three minutes. I have said it before and I will say it again, TNA really does need to streamline things. They need to cut down on some segments, add a bit more ring time and remain focused on the goal, which is building the PPV and trying to SELL that PPV. Failure. Simple failure.
Hemme and Kong/Hemme vs. Saeed: I am NOT a fan of this whole Christy Hemme push and I think that they are doing this is because: 1) They feel like they have to get their money's worth out of here, 2) they couldn't find an international talent to come in on such short notice and 3) they know that this PPV will tank. That's all fine and good, but the fact is that Hemme is a bad opponent. She just isn't good, and yes she tries, but that doesn't make her good. The match with Saeed was not a horrible match, thanks to Saeed working her ass off but what I hated was that Hemme gets to beat the odds over Saeed, Khan and Kong to win when Roxxi, ODB and others never get too. Hemme gets a title shot now, and considering that Kong has destroyed her previously in 2-minutes and busted up her nose, I have no desire to see this. Also, the way she has been booked, Saeed has now entered Bam Neeley territory in that she is completely useless. BULLSHIT!
The Ridiculous:
The Whole Turkey Bowl Concept: This, once again, was idiotic and here is why. You have a guy in Alex Shelley who WINS his first match, makes to the finals, loses and has to wear a turkey suit. WHY? What about Kip, Creed or Rave? They lost in the FIRST ROUND yet they don't have to be humiliated. Basically if you lose in the first round, you get no money but you also WIN because you have no chance in wearing the turkey suit. It makes no sense! LOGIC WHERE ARE THEE? Fuck this. Seriously, think about it this way. You have this rocking opening segment, which they did and then after that, Tenay is all hyped and says, "STAY TUNED FOR THE TURKEY BOWL!" WHO? WHAT? WHERE? WHEN? WHY? HOW?
The 411
Not a bad show at all this week. There was a lot of good happening as they continue to focus on the main angle of the company, and are building to the PPV. Unfortunately they are building to a PPV half assed style because they know that Final Resolution will be the definition of NO BUYS. They had to move the date due to WWE taking the PPV date they had, which places them on the day after the de La Hoya vs. Pacquiao fight, which will likely get over 1-million PPV buys. Actually I ‘d say closer to 1.5 million. The PPV totem pole goes UFC/Boxing, WWE and then TNA. That's why they moved Angle vs. Jarrett off of this show, that's why they are doing an 8-man tag for the main event and that's why Christy Fucking Hemme is getting a title shot. They have accepted defeat. But as I mentioned, it wasn't a bad show. The matches for the most part were fun, but they were just TOO DAMN SHORT. I am not asking for PPV quality 10-19 minute matches each week, but seriously this 3-4 minute match bullshit needs to stop and stop soon. Let's hope that the go-home show this week is something that gets people excited about the PPV.

WWE SmackDown 11.28.08
The Right:
MOM AND DAD ARE TOGETHER AGAIN: SmackDown started off with Vickie the Chipmunk in the ring to introduce the new WWE Heavyweight Champion—and her husband, of course—Edge. And good Christ; when he came out, the crowd was just rabid over him. I do believe that Chris Jericho has had his spot as most hated heel in the ‘E usurped and then some. Vickie was jumping up and down with glee as Bearded Edge made his way down to the ring. I loved how they teased that Edge might have problems with Vickie still before they went into the hug, which just pissed the crowd off even more. Unfortunately, Vickie got back on the mike first before Edge mercilessly took over. He said he wasn't ready to come back and wasn't 100% healthy, but when he found out what happened with Jeff, he had to take matters into his own hands due to Jeff's history of letting people down. Ah, so that's why they decided to tease Jeff OD'ing, so we could get a few throw-away lines to start off SmackDown; very nice, assholes. I could go off on this seven ways to Sunday, but…well, this is my spot to talk, so I think I will. Clearly a lot of people were okay with the angle they ran for Survivor Series, and a lot of people weren't. I'm one of those who was NOT happy with it; while I didn't immediately jump to "Oh God, Jeff OD'd" when I found out, I also have a history of hoping against hope so I'm not the best judge of character. That's right, boys and girls…I'm an optimist. Can't you tell? But if this is the entire pay-off to the Jeff Hardy angle, then I can still think of several other ways they could have done this that would have been just as effective that didn't end up as the kind of stupid "worked shoot" we'd expect out of Russo, not ‘E Creative. Now, that being said, there are good things coming out of this. Namely, they're keeping the main event scene stocked with folks that make up for interesting combinations, and that's a good thing. Between Edge, Jeff, ‘H, Kozlov, and Taker and Show able to step in at any time, we've got a nice, dynamic group of guys who could mix and match feud for a while and still be fresh.
Of course, most of those guys were out in the opening segment on SmackDown, as first Jeff, then ‘H rushed the ring. As Security held them off, Vlad appeared out of nowhere in the ring. He was there for the championship and nothing else; props for Vickie for having the spine to get in his way. She booked Beat the Clock matches for all three men and said whoever wins would face Edge at Armageddon, and Jeff's match was next. This was one of those opening talky bits that did exactly what it needed to do, did it with a fair minimum of annoyance, and that the crowd was super-hot for. Can't complain with that.
JEFF HARDY vs. THE BRIAN KENDRICK: Jeff, of course, was already out and ready for his match, crazy face-paint and all; it may just be me, but his paint is getting sloppier every time. Tonight, it just looked he shoved his face in a vat of Bic ink and shook it around. TBK, on the other hand, was stylin' in his red captain's jacket as he Koko'd his way to the ring. This started off pretty slow, as Jeff tried to go after Kendrick only to have Kendrick avoid the Day-Glo Warrior; it's a nice dick move by Kendrick to extend the length of the match, and makes one think perhaps, with the way TBK kept looking at the clock, that maybe he made a deal with Vickie to make it last as long as possible. Once they settled into the match it was, unsurprisingly, a great little TV match. Jeff looked strong, and yet Kendrick got a very decent amount of offense…especially if you consider that his love affair with Mary Jane has supposedly derailed his push. They did a great job of putting the guy over, and the two told the story of the match quite nicely. I actually can't find anything at all to complain about in this match, it was good stuff and kudos to both men.
VLADIMIR KOZLOV vs. MATT HARDY: Vlad came down first, all angry Russian deeply focused, and then we got Matt. The ECW champ had a nice little grin, like he had a game plan here. A lot of people might complain about how much of a bitch it makes Matt look like that he's doing his brother's work; I think it fits into Matt's character perfectly, as he's always been the protective big brother for Day-Glo, and against a guy like Kozlov just going the distance is a fairly admirable goal, even for the ECW Champ. The match started off slow but technically sound as Matt did a little stalling, then took control. He rolled out of the ring at one point, he used rest holds…anything to make the time pass. This wasn't a crowd-pleasing match, but it was a very good one that saw Matt look strong against an undefeated guy in the ‘E and sold his always-present ‘Never Say Die' attitude. Kozlov looked good, there were no botched moves, and there was a good story told in the ring; what more can you ask for? Sure, it would have been nice if the ECW Champ could have won the match, but I'm sure they're saving Kozlov's first pin for a major moment, like maybe WrestleMania. Tonight wasn't one of those nights, so I can't complain about that.
'H vs. SHELTON BENJAMIN: This was our main event, and I have to say, they couldn't have picked someone better for this match then Shelton. This plays nicely off their history, where Shelton seemed to have H-Man's number for quite some time. They did a good job building up Shelton and pointing out this history. The Game went for a quick Pedigree but it was not to be; like the other matches, this did a great job of telling the story between the two men. Shelton and ‘H still have a lot of chemistry between them and, much like the other two matches, this gave the "challenger" a lot more offense then you might have expected. Shelton looked really good, and while this had the same sort of story as the other matches—‘H going for the quickest win possible as Shelton tried to survive—it was a different sort of match stylistically, being more of a high-impact brawling match. That was one of the nicest parts of these matches, was that each of them had their own feels. This was, most likely, the best of them, simply because it was choreographed so well with the ending. Jeff's match could have been a few seconds off here or there; it was setting the bar. Kozlov wasn't getting the pin so all they had to do is last the distance; ‘H and Shelton had to time it just right so that they pinfall was counted at the right second. Obviously, props to the ref for that, but props to the wrestlers too. It was perfectly timed and set it up beautifully, and you have to give props for that. So it's going to be Edge vs. Day-Glo vs. ‘H at Armageddon? I'm totally into that, and this was a great way to end a very strong show.
puRgatoRy:
MATT HAS A THEORY: Matt Hardy was backstage with Eve, who was looking hotter than usual as a side note. She asked the ECW Champion for his thoughts going into the match. He wanted to talk about Edge and Vickie first, though. He acknowledged that Jeff has had his problems, but said that Edge and the Chipmunk were the ones responsible for the attack on his brother. Gee, someone has some lingering issues with the new champ, possibly? He said he was going to do everything in his power to make it happen again. Matt's never been a great talker, and I think that's what's set the ceiling for him at the ECW Champion level; tonight was no different as he was competent, but hardly great. It was just kind of there; I for one would have liked to see him carry his accusations against Vick and Edge a little further. We all know that Matt hates Edge, and it would have been nice to revisit that continuity. This wasn't bad stuff from Matt, but it could have been a hell of a lot better so it gets a middle of the road rating.
SIX-DIVA TAG TEAM MATCH: The faces were out first for this tag team match; I don't care what you freaks of nature say, they are damn hot, and not just because they're twins. They're not your average ‘E style, but their twins gimmick may be enough to save them where Cherry fell by the wayside. Out next was Michelle, looking less hot then her tag partners or any of the heels. I don't normally dig on Maryse, but tonight, holy shit folks. Victoria started off the match for the heels, and proceeded to struggle in making the Bellas look good. Sorry to say it, but the opening minutes of this match were clumsy and atrocious as Victoria tried to sell offense and pick up one of the Bellas as they sandbagged a little. It was slow, awkward, and painful to watch until the heels took over. All three got a little time in before the Diva's champion got the hot tag and took control. Everyone tried their damnedest to pick things up, and the match almost (but not quite) got to something good by the end. I did like the ending with Bella (or Nikki?) accidentally nailing Michelle and letting Maryse get the pin, which let Michelle go fucking nuts on them. Maria came in to their defense and got slammed down. It's good development of this turn, though they really need to pull the trigger soon. I was really tempted to make this a wrong due to the ugly-ass first couple minutes, but they managed to redeem it mostly throughout the rest.
JESSE & FESTUS vs. MIZ AND MORRISON Jesse and Festus were already in the ring when we came back from commercial, leaving us with the best entrance in professional wrestling today. That's right, I'm still beating that dead horse. I will say right here that I hate Festus's gimmick, in case you haven't figured that out by now. That being said, he's making the most of it, and I can't hold it against him. MnM 2.0 did a good job of controlling the early part of the match; if there's one thing Jesse can do well, it's sell offense, and he certainly did his part to make Miz and Morrison look good. The actual wrestling here was quite strong, between MnM in the early moments and Festus's few moments of intense brawling. You know, as much as Vince loves big guys, he sure saddles them with retarded gimmicks. (See Also: Snitsky, Gene; Jacobs, Glen) Unfortunately, the match ended on an utterly retarded note, as we got a DQ for double-teaming. Double-teaming? Really? Wow, these refs are getting really nit-picky anymore.
Now, of course we also had the post-match antics, with MnM playing "ring the bell" with Festus. While I found it amusing for the first few moments, this just ran on way too long. A little is good, and admittedly Miz's Festus impression was pretty good, I just would have liked to see them cut it short. Between the stupid DQ ending and this being twice as long as it needed to be, this gets a Purgatory.

Wow, talk about a strong show. This was one of the best SmackDowns—or any ‘E programming—I've seen in quite some time. We had a lot of great matches, a few semi-iffy ones, and nothing that was truly wrong with the show. If anyone even remotely doubts that Friday rules Monday when it comes to wrestling, just watch the two shows from this last week, and you'll see the truth.

Comment Time With Jeremy!
Disagree totally.
This was still a pretty damn good match for 3 minutes, and the screw-up was something the girls couldn't control.
Plus, it would have been hard to pretend the mistake didn't happen as the Titantron was on camera for about 10 seconds while the video switched from Mickie to Melina to Candice.
All-in-all, purgatory segment/match.
Posted By: Guest#6212 (Guest) on November 27, 2008 at 11:33 PM
I agree that the match was good for what was there, it was just too short. And actually, they could have no-sold the video switch. They've no-sold all sorts of things before, including unexpected crowd reactions, which are far more noticable then a video that was nearly off the screeen. Lawler could have let it go and it would have been a minor goof; instead, he spent two full entrances talking about it, taking it from possible to ignore across to the other side of that spectrum. Again (and this is for Guest, Johnny and Naty all), I did like what they had, but it was too short to mean anything.
Why even bother doing this column anymore? Seems like most people disagree with you! I, for one, am among a great many that enjoy Goldust! Either as a comedy role or a serious one, he's gold (no pun intended)! He also has some further stories to tell, i.e., Cody Rhodes and Priceless, Dusty Rhodes, Santino, etc. He has been and I think has the ability to once again be a force to be reckoned with. They let go of the others because 1) Kenny is a bitch, 2)Armando should've been kept as a manager, 3) Elijah had no one to back him, 4)London continued to piss people off back stage and had a terrible attitude, didn't want to be there, etc. Goldust has the backing of Brian Gerwitz, Dusty & Cody!
You dis the Slammies?! Owen would slap you silly! Not only is this another opportunity to witness insider ribs, it's about entertainment! I think it'll be a fun distraction before everyone takes time off for Christmas vacation!
As far as Kennedy goes, isn't he still injured? (What else is new?) That would explain why he hasn't been involved in anything for awhile... Why not promote an under-promoted DVD? It's called marketing! It had the audience going both at home and in the arena. It did its job.

I cut out the stuff that wasn't about Raw for space. First of all Spyke (if that IS your real name!), Larry and I don't really care if you agree with us or not. Our opinions are just that, our opinions, and you are free to disagree. However, you keep on clickin', so we'll keep on writin'. Goldust's non-comedic skills haven't been used to positive effect in years, and there are more then enough funny people currently on the roster that they don't need him. If you truly think he will be a force to be reckoned with, then more power to you, but I think you're nuts. Look at D'Lo Brown if you need to see what the midcarders of the late 90's are destined to achieve.
As for the Slammies...sorry, this isn't the early 90's. And they've got enough of a roster to fill Raw without something like this. I'll pass.
Per Kennedy, my problem, if you'd actually read, wasn't that he came out. It wasn't that he promoted the DVD nightmare that Behind Enemy Lines III is destined to be. It was the segment itself, which largely had nothing to do with the DVD.
Lastly, periods, dude. Give them a shot. Not everything needs an exclamation mark, I promise.
Seriously, if they can bring back Golddust because a couple people cheered for him, why couldn't they bring Sunny back?
Posted By: ult (Guest) on November 28, 2008 at 07:40 AM
Yes, because bringing back a constant drug addict who was never that good in the ring in the first place would be a brilliant move. The 'E's got enough Divas, they don't need this one back, I promise.
Last I read, Paul London wanted to keep his job and was even taking some acting lessons so his promo work would get better.
And if I know how to read, it looks like Larry is giving the whole segment the wrong because other people fucked it up for them. They had a nice little match but its the whole segment being rated. And yes the girls should get longer in the ring, and no mention of the Melina Roucka plant with the "Glamazon in training" sign?
Posted By: kinaj (Guest) on November 28, 2008 at 08:12 AM
Actually Kinaj, I was giving the segment the wrong, not Larry, but yes, you're right. I didn't realize the Glamazon in training thing was a plant, so that's why I didn't bring it up. Interesting, and thanks for the info.
I can't be the only person to find Mickie one of the least attractive divas on RAW. I would MUCH rather take Candice Michelle over Mickie. Hell I'd rather take Jillian over Mickie.
Posted By: RB (Guest) on November 28, 2008 at 02:38 PM
Yes. Yes, you are the only one. Check yourself into an asylum, dude, you're nuts.
"Unfortunately, the match ended on an utterly retarded note, as we got a DQ for double-teaming. Double-teaming? Really? Wow, these refs are getting really nit-picky anymore. "
Well, you can blame Vince McMahon for enforcing new rules for referees to start ending matches on DQ's for double teaming, tossing your opponent against the steel ring post, doing moves on the outside, and to not use the "five count" anymore. Expect more of these "BS finishes"

Larry why do you focus on how long Tna matches are? I mean i don't see you complaining about wwe's wrestling time. And did somebody say that jillian was better looking then Mickie? Wow. Maybe Melina, but not Jillian.

How the Hell can the six divas tag match on smackdown be better than Christy Hemme vs Raisha Saeed I thought that the match was way better than the tag match besides at least christy didn't kepp botching all of her moves throughout the match. And Are you insuating that cherry wasn't good looking? And if any diva is the hottest right now it's obviously Melina.

Well, you can blame Vince McMahon for enforcing new rules for referees to start ending matches on DQ's for double teaming, tossing your opponent against the steel ring post, doing moves on the outside, and to not use the "five count" anymore. Expect more of these "BS finishes"
Dude, read between the lines, take a deep breath and read it again, now think about it, no, no, no. Don't rush it.
Okay, read it one more time.
Do you see the hidden message shing through?
No? Okay.
It was a joke.

Alex Shelly isn't really a face..so his smart comments don't matter. A heel tun is coming and everyone can see it.
Kudos to Benjamin getting a good match out of HHH after his horrible display against Kozlov last week. And be careful how you criticize Maryse..she's nearly the best thing on Smackdown today.

I just can't understand people being so optimistic about a product (TNA) where the feud designed to push TNA's younger shining stars has resulted in Rhino and Team 3D being pushed as the principle main event faces. It's utter crap.

Stop fucking calling him Day-Glo. Yours sincerly Matt P.

Rhino is not a leader. His promos suck and I have tried to look at him differently but those T-Rex arms are all I see. Can he even brush his teeth?

"Yes, because bringing back a constant drug addict who was never that good in the ring in the first place would be a brilliant move. The 'E's got enough Divas, they don't need this one back, I promise. "
Who the hell cared about Sunny's ring work? It was Sunny for smeg's sake.
And if that wasn't enough, she was one of the only (if not THE only) woman who could really work the mic. Admit it, when was the last time any Diva promo had the same amount of charisma as Sunny mocking Todd Pettingil during her ring entrance on the WMXII Free-for-All.

I thought the exact same thing about TNA Frontline. :P
Saeed vs Hemme made me sad. Hemme should never, ever be going over Melissa.
Larry does complain about the WWE's matches being too short at times, BUT, as he says every week, TNA is meant to be the alternative and that means pushing solid wrestling.

Then how about teaching the CURRENT Divas about how to work the mic if that's the case?

"Larry why do you focus on how long Tna matches are? I mean i don't see you complaining about wwe's wrestling time."
It's pretty much established that the WWE isn't a 100% wrestling company. The real wrestling occurs on their PPVs. TNA promotes itself as the alternative and is supposed to have a roster full of talented individuals. So what do they do? Put them in 3-5 minute matches and pray for the best. When SmackDown! kicks your ass in time devoted to matches, it can look pretty bad for you when you claim to be the alternative.

"Kendrick got a very decent amount of offense…especially if you consider that his love affair with Mary Jane has supposedly derailed his push."
dont get it, help me out here jeremy.
also, whats the betting it was matt who attacked jeff before the survivor series? funny how he was the first guy to acknowledge that jeff was ATTACKED, and now he's the first guy to come out and accuse vickie and edge of it.
i smell a feud brewing!

actually, that would be cool IF Edge were to be facing the wrath of the Hardy brothers and brings Christian and Tomko in to back him up.
of course, the feud would have to be mostly solo matches, with tag matches saved for PPV's but it would be fun to watch these teams fight each other again.

Kendrick's love of the herb has made me mark for him when I had been on the fence previously.

Hey remember when Rhyno was TNA world champion?! Let's not bring that up at all, at anytime.

Mary Jane = Marijuana
On another note, I wonder how many more columns it will take before people realize that Larry doesn't do the R's for every show...

When will you get that it's a Thanksgiving episode of Impact. Turkey Bowl = lighthearted Thanksgiving fun with wrestling. You have to have to either have a cold heart or an unhealthy bloodthirst for wrestling to label the Turkey Bowl ridiculous. Now if something like this took place in the middle of August, I could understand the ire for it.
As far as the stips go, its simple risk or reward. I don't see what's so hard to understand about it at all. You make it to the finals and if you score the pinfall (best case scenario in any given matchup/threeway) you're rewarded $25,000. If you eat the pinfall (which is the worst case scenario in any other given matchup/threeway) you have to wear a turkey suit. And in Alex Shelley's case, wearing the Turkey suit got him some decent and impromptu promo time so thumbs up for him in the end. You guys take things way too seriously sometimes.
The Miz, Morrison, Festus segement was too long??? Even as fans in attendance were chanting "ONE MORE TIME!"? The crowd ate it up, and it was one of those moments where WWE intentionally tried to be funny and (surprisingly) they actually were.
Quit your whining, lol.

I'm sorry Larry, but the Turkey Bowl inringer between Shelley and Foley was among the best in ring segments I've seen this entire year if not recent memory. Angles are what make for solid character development and Thanksgiving 2008 is what people should remember years decades from now in one of Alex Shelley's many "Best of" DVDs. The angle was flawless.

As an addendum, I completely agree with 'Rooh, Miz, Morrison, Festus and Jesse owned their segment. Kudos to guys having a good time inside the ring, the live crowd loved it and so did I. Entertainment and comedy may not win Oscars, but dammit they should.

Because...as Larry always says...TNA ALWAYS CLAIM TO BE THE ALTERNATIVE TO THE WWE. Larry just proves them wrong each and every week.

I have to disagree with a couple of things.
First is w/ Team 3D joining FrontLine (which is a stupid name, and looks like a videogame title.) joining as right. Where is the continuity? For most of summer they were lined up w/ Kurt, Booker & company and assholes? And now they join FL? Where is what happened 3 months ago? Granted they are going to do the Russo swerve, and cause AJ & Joe the victory. But lets at least take this on face value.
Plus I have to agree that MnM's bell antics were great, as asshole-dick heals that they are. Not only were they mocking the mentally retarded, they were busting each other's chops. I was laughing hysterically, which is the point of entertainment isnt?

i was actually thinking of a hardy vs hardy feud and how matts suspicious promos could be the seed for that.
but your right, one more e&c vs hardys match would be incredible

I feel like the TNA Frontline vs. MEM has been booked well in the MEMs favor.I don't think Rhino or Team 3D being in Frontline looks good as it makes a guy like AJ who should be the leader take the back seat.Frontline should consist of AJ,Daniels,Lethal,Beer Money(although it would make them turn face which would kill their momentum)EY,Abyss and if you have to Samoa Joe.
Posted By: Guest#2861 (Guest) on December 02, 2008 at 03:22 PM
Y'know what I DON'T GET AT ALL...how is Frontline such a bad name? There the guys who are gonna go to war and fight. What's so bad about that name. It's more original than "TNA Originals." Give TNA a break.

H's vs The Gold Standard? Doesn't Shelton know that all three of the H's are more babyface than he ever will be? H's numbers 1 and 2 will carry Shelton to a 5 star match while H number 3 will take care of the audience pops. Clearly a general. So many H's. Such a babyface!
