411Mania's Squared Circle News Report 02.28.08
Posted by Dustin James on 02.28.2009

Welcome back to the second edition of 411mania's Squared Circle News Report! As always I'm your main man Dustin James and I will be your guide through this SLOW SLOW SLOW news week. Seriously, searching for a good news stories this week was like trying to find a decent looking woman in North Dakota, it just doesn't happen. So bear with me as we try to find some interesting topics to discuss......

Now.........LET'S ROLL!!!

(First person to make me a banner wins an old Powerball ticket of mine! I have never actually checked if it was a winner or not, so you may be the lucky one!)

Biggest News Of The Week:

This feature is pretty easy to explain. The biggest news of the week goes here. See how easy that was?

WWE Announces Wrestlemania 26 Location

Arizona here we...errr you come!

On Tuesday the WWE announced that Wrestlemania 26 would be held at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona. What a year it's been for people in Arizona. First the Cardinals get to the Super Bowl, then the WWE announces this awesome news, and now the Suns are...wellllll....this news is just great! I personally love when the WWE comes to the West Coast because it gives me a chance to see a Wrestlemania live if I choose too. Will I attend Wrestlemania? Good question. I did get a chance to attend Wrestlemania 19 a few years ago in Seattle and I had one of the best times in my life. The big thing here is distance. I'm not a good flier (I will make an exception when it comes to Las Vegas and UFC shows) so that could be out of the window. It would take me somewhere around 24 hours to drive to Arizona, so that's probably out of the question. I would say that it all depends on what kind of card the WWE pushes out, but we all know that you MUST buy your tickets to WM before you have even the slightest clue of what the card will look like. Who's to say Vince won't throw a curve ball our way and have Jimmy Wang Yang face Kung Fu Naki in an ironman match in the main event of Wrestlemania 26? Ahhh, who am I kidding....I'd love to see that match.

Freddie Prinze Jr. Leaves WWE Creative Team

We hardly knew ya Freddie....

In what could be considered "shocking" news in the offices of the WWE, Hollywood's own Freddie Prinze Jr. has decided to leave the WWE creative team after a short run with the company. One report going around is that Stephanie McMahon approached Prinze a few weeks back and offered him a promotion as well as a raise with the company. However, Prinze then informed McMahon that he was actually planning on giving his notice to the company. Steph was able to talk Prinze into staying with the company in a part-time role, but he is now officially no longer a member of the WWE's creative team in any sort of capacity. The WWE and Prinze still plan on maintaining a business relationship, but he's no longer affiliated with the creative team. I was one of those people who thought the Prinze hiring a few months back was a good one. He's a huge WWE fan, which I believe is a GREAT thing to have on your creative team. It's a breath of fresh air when you compare it to some of the "soap opera" guys that we have had to put up with in the past.

WWE head honcho Vince McMahon was reportedly extremely upset with Prinze's resignation letter and decided to send Freddie a letter of his own....

Ya...REAL original, Vince.....

New Details on Randy Savage DVD

Is it just me or does Savage's finger look really small?

We have some new details on the upcoming Randy "Macho Man" Savage DVD that is LONG overdue. The DVD will not be a documentary (because god knows NOBODY cares about Savage's WWE career.....), but instead will focus on Savage's wrestling matches. Here are some of the matches that are scheduled to be on the DVD:

- Savage's WWE debut

-Three matches between Savage and Hulk Hogan (WWE)

-Two matches between him and Ted DiBiase (WWE)

-Two matches between him and Ricky Steamboat (WWE)

- vs. Ric Flair (WWE)

- vs. Ultimate Warrior (WWE)

- vs. Bruno Sammartino (WWE)

- vs. Tito Santana (WWE)

- vs. Jake Roberts (WWE)

- Savage & Sensational Sherri vs. Dusty Rhodes & Sapphire (WWE)

- Two matches between him and Ric Flair (WCW)

- vs. Diamond Dallas Page (WCW)

- Savage & Sid Vicious vs. Kevin Nash & Sting (WCW)

The DVD is scheduled to be a three-disc set and you can color me with a happy crayon when it relates to this DVD and the match list. This DVD has the potential to be one of the best the WWE has released yet. The one major complaint? No commentary! I was hoping that Vince McMahon would open this DVD and FINALLY reveal the real reason as to why Savage is one of the only wrestlers in America currently black-balled from the WWE. It still remains one of the biggest mysteries in the world........

Shark Boy Loses House To Fire

I can't be the only one who thought Shark Boy lived underwater....

Here's some HORRIBLE news for TNA's Shark Boy and his fans. Last week Shark Boy lost his home and the majority of his belongings in a horrible house fire. The good news is that Sharkie was on the road with TNA and the main thing he lost in the fire was a bunch of Shark Boy merchandise. As a result of the fire, any current orders on Shark Boy merchandise will be refunded, so the two people in Florida who purchased Shark Boy masks will be happy to know that their $9.99 will be fully refunded. On a serious note, I'm glad to see Shark Boy wasn't harmed at all during this fire and hopefully the man's well off financially and will be able to move on. I have always said that nothing would be worse than a house fire....which is why everyone should invest in a sprinkler system. Trust me, they can help!

Updated TNA Destination X Card

This has nothing to do with Destination X...it's just hilarious

Here is the updated card for TNA Destination X:

TNA World Title Match:
-Sting vs. Kurt Angle
TNA Legends Title Match:
-Booker T vs. AJ Styles
-Scott Steiner vs. Samoa Joe
-The Return of Ultimate X

So far this card is shaping up to be a pretty decent card. I don't know if we need to see Samoa Joe and Scott Steiner go at it again, but whatever. I'm always down for a little Sting/Angle action but I'm really hoping to see a Sting/Foley fight in the near future. Those two had some good matches in WCW and I remember in Foley's book "Have A Nice Day", he mentioned that he would love to wrestle Sting one last time. That could be something that even TNA couldn't mess up. As for the Ultimate X match? My interest in that depends on who TNA decides to throw in. Names anyone?

Remember This Guy???

In this feature I will profile a WWE or WCW gimmick of the 1980's and 1990's that didn't last very long.

Bastion Booger

Bastion Booger had one goal in the WWE....gross everyone out. Booger arrived in the WWF in 1993 as Friar Ferguson. That character didn't last very long and was quickly thrown to the side after some negative feedback from the Catholic Church. He was then re-packaged as Booger and had close to zero success. He was released in 1994 after talks of possibly turning him face were thrown out. He did return for a one shot deal on the WWE RAW 15th Anniversary Show in a backstage segment with HHH. I will personally never forget Booger, probably because he haunted me in my dreams for years to come.

Random News Bits:

Here are some random news tidbits that weren't considered "big" enough for the top news section.

- Here's the latest on WWE Superstars on WGN. Apparently the WWE is not interested in running the show like a revamped Velocity or Heat. The show will not focus on low-level guys like Jim Duggan or Charlie Haas, but instead will feature some of the top stars from all three shows. Ya....right. WGN is a low rated cable station and the show will generate nothing better than a 1.1 or something along those lines and before you know it you will have the "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiHAASe vs. Kung Fu Naki.

- One of the biggest questions going around right now is, who will Chris Jericho face at Wrestlemania 25? Rumor is the WWE could be leaning toward a Jericho vs. Jerry "The King" Lawler match. Lawler (who is 59 years old) has never wrestled at a Wrestlemania and is still able to put on a decent enough wrestling match. Insert your own joke here.

- Why is Sim Snuka still employed by the WWE, yet guys like Manu and Scotty Goldman get the shaft? Because apparently Snuka is being considered for an announcing role on WWE Superstars on WGN. Yeah....because he's a MUCH better announcer than Scotty Goldman could have been. I'm sorry but sometimes it feels like this guy is running the WWE.....

- Speaking of Manu, he was apparently released because the WWE soured on his look. He was told to lose weight time after time after time and when he didn't, the WWE decided to finally just drop him. Hey, that sounds a lot like me and my last girlfriend.

- You know you want some WWE draft rumors, so here you go:

*HHH could be moving back to RAW to feud with Randy Orton full-time after Wrestlemania.

*Edge could move to RAW due to the fact that the WWE is booking him on RAW house shows in tag team matches against John Cena.

*Rey Mysterio could move back to Smackdown.

*Batista could also move back to Smackdown if HHH and Edge both come over to RAW.

*Chris Jericho could be heading to Smackdown.

*Jim Ross and Michael Cole could switch places once again.

- The WWE now classifies ROH as "competition" and won't let their recently released wrestlers work there until their 90-day no compete clause is up. Look for Colt Cabana to join ROH once his clause is up.

- Ric Flair could appear in ROH in a referee role in the next few months.

- Tuesday's edition of ECW on Sci-Fi earned a 1.3 rating. See, some people are still watching it!

- WWE is currently having Shawn Michaels practice with Vladimir Kozlov in an effort to help Kozlov improve his work ethic. I just wish HBK would help make me care about Kozlov.

- There is currently an inside joke running around the TNA offices right now. Apparently the higher-ups have joked around that they will make a DVD of Christian's WWE return and play it for any wrestler on their roster who is thinking of leaving. Yes, it's quite a stupid move by Christian to go to the WWE to make more money and wrestle for a much broader audience. What an idiot!

- TNA released Sonjay Dutt earlier this week and some rumors mention that the WWE could be interested in him. Apparently TNA needs to whip up a copy of that Christian DVD sooner rather than later.

- TNA Impact this week did a 1.3 with 1.7 million viewers.

Saturday Morning Story-Time:

In this section I will be taking a TRUE story that is wrestling related as well as related to myself and sharing it with you. These will be short stories, so have no fear!

"Rowdy" Roddy Piper tries to get me arrested!

"Egg my house will ya..."

Now, last week I teased this story and I figured this week I would actually tell it. Now, before you get all excited and think that Roddy Piper called the cops on me because I tried robbing his house or something....you are wrong. You see, as I mentioned last week I have had numerous run-ins with the "ROWDY" one over the years. It's not unusual considering Piper lives about 10 miles from me. But this time was different. You see, I was a stupid high school kid who thought it would be "AWWSUM D00D" to splatter Piper's house with eggs! Nothing would piss off a WWE hall-of-famer more than waking up to a house splattered with delicious breakfast food. So my friends and I piled into a car and made our way up to Piper's house. That's when it happened! I got cold feet! I NEVER got cold feet before, but something was eating at me. Was it the fact that I had considered Piper an "I.C.O.N." and I couldn't bear painting his house yellow with egg yolk? That had to be it. So, while my friends threw eggs at Piper's house...I sat in the truck thinking about the Piper/Goldust "Hollywood Backlot Brawl" battle from Wrestlemania and I was THIS close to just blowing Piper's house up....before I realized it was all over and we were on our merry way home.

Then it happened.....

Yes, I got online and blogged about the egg adventures on my livejournal (now remember, this was 1999 and livejournals and blogs were not considered "cool" yet) and just days later I get a "KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK" on my door. I peeked outside of my curtains to see who was at my house at 8:30AM on a Saturday morning only to see a POLICE CAR in my driveway. OH CRAP! What did I do? Why are the cops waiting for me outside? Needless to say, I didn't answer the door and the police man left his card behind for someone to call. So when my father arrived home I filled him in on the situation and he decided to give the police a call. Much to my surprise Piper had found out about my blogging and had actually CALLED THE COPS ON ME! I talked to the police man and he informed me that if Piper's house was egged again, I would be the prime suspect. Oh great....not only did I NOT thrown an egg at all the first time, but now I was basically in charge of protecting Piper's house from kids all over Oregon. That's just fan-freakin-tastic. So, what's the lesson here kiddies? If you decide to throw breakfast food at a WWE legends house....throw something less messy like bagels or raw bacon. Oh....and don't blog about it.

What's up for next week's story time? How about the time my little brother was almost killed by Scott Norton! That should make for a good story.......

Wrestlemania Top 10 Lists:

With Wrestlemania right around the corner, every Saturday I will present you with a special Wrestlemania-themed top 10 list. Trust me, it will be good times!

Top 10 Worst Wrestlemania Wrestlers

(I'm totally going by their win/loss record at Wrestlemania and not their actual performance during the match. Their WM win/loss record is displayed next to their name)

10) Matt Hardy (1-5)

It pains me to see Matt Hardy make this list, but the truth is....the man can't win at Wrestlemania. He's now been apart of six Wrestlemania's but has only managed one victory. Perhaps a win over his brother Jeff will finally come this year?

9) Faarooq/Ron Simmons (1-5)

The former WCW Champion was hardly able to make any kind of noise at Wrestlemania. DAMN!

8) Savio Vega (0-3)

Poor Vega. Not only were the Los Boriquas given the shaft by the WWE, Vega was never able to secure a win at the biggest show of the year. Not even as Kwang!

7) Bart Gunn (0-3)

Not only was Gunn unable to win a wrestling match at a Wrestlemania, he also got KTFO by Butterbean. It's a good thing he quit while he was ahead.

6) Jeff Hardy (0-4)

Will this be the year that Jeff Hardy can finally capture his first Wrestlemania victory? Not if Matt has anything to say about it.

5) The Dudley's (0-4)

The Dudley's had some memorable Wrestlemania moments in their classic TLC battles with Edge/Christian and The Hardy's, however they were never able to grab a win at Wrestlemania.

4) Jacques Rougeau (1-6)

He's THE MOUNTIE! And he was also horrible at Wrestlemania........

3) Tito Santana (1-7)

I'm a HUGE Tito Santana fan and it pains me to see him on this list...but that's the way it is. Tito just didn't have it at Wrestlemania. It didn't help that his partners would bail out on him (looking at YOU Rick Martel!).

2) The Big Show (1-7)

For as dominating a force as The Big Show is/should be, I'm surprised he only has one Wrestlemania victory to his credit. Therefore he gets put ahead of Tito Santana for that reason and that reason only.

1) Goldust (0-5)

Goldust had five shots at getting a Wrestlemania win, but never got it. Maybe the WWE will add him in some way to Wrestlemania 25. I'm sure atleast two or three people would want to see the 0-5 Goldust vs. the 16-0 Undertaker!

YouTube! Find Of The Week!

One of the reasons Goldust was unable to ever pick up a win at Mania........

And that's it for this week. Don't worry, this column will only get better with time. I will try to add as many new features as possible to keep this baby fresh. See you next Saturday back in the Squared Circle! Until then, you can find me on MySpace or Facebook!

did you just show a retarded boy and compare that to scotty goldman/sim snuka commentator choice for a WWE WGN show? you're a douche... & not in a cool heat way--- that was X-pac heat ... lame

but if it was TG Corke running to pee on your leg, to mark you as his bitch, I guess it's OK....

you, sir, have a long ladder to climb past cheap retard jokes and re-hashes... TG could look great compared to you.... HELL--- Meehan looks like Hemmingway to this crap-fest....

& the Mountie was a great wrestler doing the best with a great character so blow all the IWC darlin wrestlers in ROH all you want... none of them would show up on a 'BEST OF' or "WORST OF' 10 years from now... because NO ONE would remember them....but you going by Win- loss....

Short-lived gimmick Bastion Booger is remembered & re-hashed by everyone but a scotty too hotty goldman briscoe brother evan bourne matt sydal 2nd city saint sucka by the dozens the IWC verbally blows will be remembered NEVER!!!!!

OH, pooh.... WWE missed the boat on scotty goldman's announcing....................

that's awesome.

alright, my one complaint is that you're going by record at wrestlemania, and not performance. god knows the hardys and dudleys didn't deserve it. going on performance, i'd have to say how about koko b. ware or crush (who was 0-3 or 0-4, something like that).
but at the same time it was an informative look at some of the worst records in 'mania history.
all in all, it was a solid column.

p.s. i thought the retard thing was funny.

who's TG Corke???
who gives a fuck ahboot the mountie???
who fuckin' cares???
viva la booger.

Oh man! I'm a huge Goldust fan. Guys gotta win one at Mania.

Posted By: Bobby (Guest)  on February 28, 2009 at 05:00 AM

Yeah, that Special Olympics gag was- wow. I'm sure you'll come back with "BUT THE COMMENTS USE RETARD ALL THE TIME": yes, yes they do, but you're the one writing the column here genius, under what is presumably your real name. Show some professionalism, and hope that no employer or writing avenue doesn't choose to Google your name any time soon.

On a lighter note, Crush lost all four of his Wrestlemania matches (vs Tenryu/Kitao, vs Doink, vs Macho Man and with the NOD against LOD/Ahmed), putting him equal with Jeff Hardy and the Duds. So this column is poorly researched as well as badly written!

"Don't worry, this column will only get better with time."

Can't get much worse.

You know what scared the shit out of me as a kid? I had the old WWF Magazine with a profile on Bastion Booger when he first showed up. I was looking at his frigged up outfit and noticed in disgusting clarity, one of his nipples was shaped like a yin-yang symbol. He's got some fucked up bi-section on his nipple. It's absolutely gag-worthy. So, thanks for bringing back that horrible memory.

You better hope Roddy Piper doesn't come to your house and tell you he's all out of bubblegum.

Who writes this shit?

LOL FAMILY GUY SCREENCAPS, egging Piper's house, HAI REMEMBER THIS GUY LOL HE SUCKED, egging Piper's house, HAI LOOK A RETARD, HAI check out my facebook...

It feels like I'm reading 'ScrewAttack does Wrestling.'

After reading last weeks column I was looking forward to reading this regularly.

Now you have offended me with your appauling use of a handicapped child as a joke.

It's obvious that if you have to stoop that low that you have no talent or creativity.

Posted By: Mike (Guest)  on February 28, 2009 at 09:28 AM

this column continues to suck out loud. Saturday morning main event was better. also, jokes about "retards" and "fat chicks" are very Bush league. Not impressed at all.

Posted By: man/// (Guest)  on February 28, 2009 at 10:44 AM

@Guest6969:
a. Someone who's commenet name relates to a hackeneyed oral sex method shouldn't cast stones about rehashes and bad jokes.

b. The whole anti-ROH spiel made no sense. Scotty 2 Hotty was WWF/USWA, not ROH. Plus, the entire sentence needed punctuation and some sort of predicate.

c. I think that Danielson and McGuiness will be around 10 years from now and thus will be remembered by people.

Posted By: Iron Knee (Guest)  on February 28, 2009 at 10:49 AM

This is more of a killing-time-til-House blog entry than a column. The rehashed news reports from the last week take up about 70% of the page. If you've got opinions on these events, come on, flesh them out a bit. Expound!

Posted By: KanyonKreist (Guest)  on February 28, 2009 at 11:01 AM

"I'm sure atleast two or three people would want to see the 0-5 Goldust vs. the 16-0 Undertaker!"

Streak vs. Streak match. Book it!!!

I believe Tito Santana won a dark match against Papa Shango at Wrestlemania IX, I could be mistaken though.

Worst article ever. I'm going to egg your house tomorrow night. And by egg I mean fist, and by house I mean FACE!

Guest6969 = pompous douche. Good column.

I wonder if the ending of their film will show him wrestling at WrestleMania with one million viewers watching at home?

"Yowza!"

Guest6969 u missed the boat. Dustin compared the creative/business team to a Corky, not the Goldman/Snuka choice. I would say Dustin needs to dumb down his jokes for u, but don't want to get x-pac heat...

Posted By: duh420 (Guest)  on February 28, 2009 at 12:39 PM

As for TNA joking about showing Christian's WWE return to wrestlers that are considering leaving the promotion...

Why not show them the 'Best of Braden Walker'

Roddy Piper is the man!

You should stop putting descriptions of the sections under the section headings. Most of the time it is redundant ("Random News Bits: Here are some random news tidbits" etc).

I really enjoyed your debut column and had to check it out again this week. Once again, great job.

Although, I thought the joke with the disabled kid was kinda low. Admittedly, the longer i stared at the pic and thought of him running the E, it made me laugh but then I quickly scrolled down so as to not have too much fun at the expense of someone's unfortunate disability.

Once again, great column but I think you'll be just fine without cruel jokes. Oh yeah, one last thing, this is quickly becoming one of my favorite reads on 411. You don't need to add anything. It'll just take forever to read. This column is just right. Anyone else agree?

Posted By: MachoManFanStill (Guest)  on February 28, 2009 at 01:50 PM

Wow... That was just awful. Terrible. Really, it was possibly the worst column I've ever read on this site.

Between shite screencaps (including the wank which is Family Guy), the mentally disabled, and a huge let down of a Piper story, I feel like I'm owed 5 minutes of my life back for reading this.

I'd stop trying to be funny if I were you as well pal, because you aren't.

Posted By: ButchReedMark (Guest)  on February 28, 2009 at 02:58 PM

Big Show should have been number one, because his only win was a tag team title match with Kane against the worst singles-paired team ever, Chris Masters & Carlito. Not to mention that some of Big Show's losses include a US title match, a fatal-4-way WWF title match, and a HANDICAP match teamed with A-Train against Undertaker WITHOUT Death Power.

Posted By: Cactus (Guest)  on February 28, 2009 at 03:18 PM

I don't think I like you very much ... so why would I want to read your column any more?

Keep on making fun of retards and fat people ... we ALL think you're cool. REALLY cool.

Posted By: MDK (Guest)  on February 28, 2009 at 04:16 PM

no fat chicks.

Posted By: csonkamaniac (Guest)  on February 28, 2009 at 04:45 PM

What a funny column, the "I know what you did last summer" made me smile but then I saw the handicap kid and yeah, we're not all idiots on this site. I feel you made a mistake and you'll fess up to it, we all do things we regret later so yeah. But overall, I found this to be a pretty refreshing wrestling column.

Posted By: JcJames (Guest)  on February 28, 2009 at 05:04 PM

I'm enjoying the format. Wrestlers from the past is a nice look back at some of the (so far) laughable gimmicks, and your true stories should be entertaining. Plus, it's something to kill 15 minutes on a Saturday.

@ Iron Knee--

1) why? seriously...

2) thanks spell check guy, did you circle my spelling errors in red magic marker on you computer screen & give me an 'F'??? AWWwwwww...

3) no they won't... done with you.....

@Stevie307--- YES, yes I am.... thanks...

@Duh420--- anything your genius ass 'get's the boat on'--- I'll pass

@scrp--- my bad. dig Hemingway but late nite computer typing on IWC sites doesn't really warrant spell check for me ( as it does Iron Knee) but I should have known that--- shame on Iron Knee for not correcting me on that first!....

Mountie was a great character!

Dustin's column isn't the best I've seen on the site, but it's not a bad read. He's got some personality, which is always a good thing for a writer to have to stand out. I'll be reading his next few columns.. and hopefully, he'll grow on a semi-solid foundation.

oh, also, on the "other videos of interest" that are displayed, triple h jobbing to hellwig after a no-sold pedigree is worth the look, totally forgot about that.

and the sid promo is hilarious.

Well, that was... offensive.

Seriously, what the hell? This is supposed to be a legitimate wrestling site.

The column was good. Not great, not bad. But it is really inappropriate to made fun of someone who is handicapped. In very bad taste. Hopefully after the comments about that poor display of maturity, you will think twice.

What about SD Jones? Just because he died last year you won't put him on the list?

The retard joke was hilarious because it might as well be true.
As PC as the world is today, of course the majority of you salary-slave-drones are going to be offended.

As for Guest#6969, he/she is absolutely correct in saying that The Mountie was a great wrestler/character. The WWE can try all it wants, but unless they bring back Jacques Rougeau, there will never be a better character than The Mountie.

Is this some kind of AOL Chatroom reunion circa 2002?
