ROH News: May 14th Newswire
Posted by Larry Csonka on 05.14.2009

- May 14th Newswire: As announced in yesterday's main page article at http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2771, current GHC Junior Champion, KENTA, will appear in Detroit on June 26th and Chicago on June 27th! He is looking forward to showing the fans in the Midwest once again why he is considered to be one of the best wrestlers in the world, and we'll have his opponents in the coming weeks. Don't forget, KENTA is also a part of the ROH on HDNet National Television tapings in Philadelphia on May29th and 30th! Tickets for Philadelphia, Detroit, and Chicago are on sale and available now at www.rohwrestling.com!

- This week's episode of "Ring of Honor Wrestling" on HDNet will feature an announcement by ROH Ambassador Ric Flair on who will challenge World Champion Jerry Lynn in the first World Title defense on televsion. The TV Main Event will be Kevin Steen & El Generico vs. Kenny King & Rhett Titus. Also, Brent Albright vs. Claudio Castagnoli; Jay Briscoe vs. Sami Callihan, The Dark City Fight Club in action plus more. For additional information go to http://www.hd.net/ringofhonor.html.

- El Generico contacted ROH officials this morning after seeing one of his orthopedic surgeons, and the preliminary news is better than expected. Generico will be seeing another surgeon in the coming days for another opinion, and we hope to have a solid announcement early next week as it pertains to Generico's involvement on upcoming events.

- Signed for Manassas on June 12th is what promises to be a very hard-hitting singles bout with a grudge. Jay Briscoe will take a break from his ‘friendly competition' with Roderick Strong to once more battle the force that put his brother out of commission. That force is the American Wolves, and Jay's target in Manassas is Davey Richards. With Eddie Edwards, Richards has been a machine as of late, but he fell to Kevin Steen in a brutal brawl in Boston, which may have just softened him up a little. Can Briscoe pick up where Steen left off?

- Have you signed on as a follower of ROH on Twitter? Link up at www.twitter.com/rohonhdnet.

- The May 13th edition of the ROH Videowire is now available for viewing at http://www.rohvideos.com/watch?v=N_D0EuO9QKg&fmt=18. You will see comments from the Necro Butcher, Bryan Danielson, Jay Briscoe, and Sonjay Dutt, as well as highlights from Boston and Edison, a preview of this weekend's telecast of Ring of Honor Wrestling on HDNet, and a look at the new DVD release - "Stylin' and Profilin'" - featuring the ROH debut of "Nature Boy" Ric Flair!

- Speaking of Sonjay Dutt, he has signed a pair of interesting singles matches for the Manassas/New York weekend. IN Manassas, he's going to face off with Jimmy Jacobs. Jacobs has been busy trying to hold onto what once was a formidable AOTF army, and most recently, has been obsessed with dismantling Tyler Black. Can the "Original Playa from the Himalaya" score a win over the AOTF magnate one day before his "First Blood" war with Tyler in NYC? Then in Manhattan, Dutt's task will get no easier as he's set to face a man that has been the hottest competitor in ROH as of late in Roderick Strong. A win over Strong would certainly make a statement for the charismatic Dutt. Tickets for Manassas and Manhattan are on sale now!

- Also signed for Manassas, is a grudge affair, as the Embassy may just have bitten off way more than they can chew. At the behest of Prince Nana, Ernie Osiris has picked Grizzly Redwood as his primary target, and the two have been battling in pre-show matches for weeks. Now with the Embassy's latest attack, which saw Jimmy Rave and Osiris lay the littlest lumberjack out and attempt to cut off his beard, the straw has broken the camel's back. The Necro Butcher came to his rescue, and was also rewarded with a beatdown by the Embassy in Boston. Now Necro is promising to bring a hardcore fight back to Rave and company. In Manassas, we'll have six-man tag team action as Jimmy Rave and Ernie Osiris of the Embassy will team with their Associate, Claudio Castagnoli, against the Necro Butcher, Grizzly Redwood, and Colt "Boom Boom" Cabana! There is bad blood between all six men, and it could boil over on June 12th!

- Rumor has it that Guido Maritato is confident that he'll be making a lasting impression on June 13th in New York. The Sicilian Shooter has stated that he wants to show ROH that he's capable of hanging with the toughest competition in the company, and is apparently set to make a challenge next week.

- ROH World Champion Jerry Lynn is set to travel to Puerto Rico this weekend to challenge for IWA Heavyweight Title in a Three Way Dance against El Chicano and Joe Bravo. We'll have the follow up next week in the Newswire. Could Lynn be a double-champion come Monday? For more information on this great event, please visit www.IWAPR.tv.

- Speaking of Lynn, he'll be involved in the 4th of 6 Television main events to be filmed in Philadelphia on May 29th and 30th! The veteran ROH World Champion has an absolute classic against "that Young Knockout Kid" Chris Hero in Boston last week, and now, they're set to bring it to National Television in a non-title affair. Hero has been on his own quiet roll as of late, with the help of a brutal elbow strike. If you ask Hero about it, he'll tell you that the legendary Mitsuharu Misawa has taught him the art of the elbow. If you ask ROH on HDNet play-by-play announcer Mike Hogewood, it's most assuredly an illegally loaded elbow pad causing the damage. Either way you slice it, one thing is for certain: If he connects that elbow with Jerry Lynn's jaw in Philly, you can "slap the porpoise" because it'll be over.

- Our big 35-40% Off Sale has been extended one final time. You can still take advantage of this offer until Sunday night at 9PM. Don't miss out on this great offer. For complete details on how to save click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=1682

Geez, what on earth happened to Ric Flair. Flair sold out jam packed arenas back in his day. Now...he is working inside high school gymnasiums with an indy league named ROH...How the mighty have fallen!!!

Ric, go to TNA and have some real fun and make some real money!

Thank you for trolling.

Now go back under your bridge so the adults can talk.

Tna a real company? Give me a break. Trolls like you have really ruined this site, and even makes me hate it at times of how people just try to be funny with their over used lame comments. Then too just really make smart comments or complement the writers for their hard work they put into some of their writing. Grow the fuck up or just go some where else

Jimmy Jacobs should find more people to be part of the Age of the Fall, and AotF can battle with the Embassy.

hey quit making fun of roh it is the best wrestling out there today. i rate ric flairs appearances as 3 1/2 stars because of his workrate. i rate lynn vs hero as 4 1/4 stars because of workrate. their workrate is excellent. roh is the only u.s. promotion to constistently have five star matches. they have workrate and ring psychology. bryan danielson and the briscoes also use ring psychology and have good workrate. i give them 4 and 1/2 stars in my star ratings. i have a list of every roh match and how many stars i gave it for workrate and ring psychology on my website. please visit my website to view these ratings. i also have timed each match and have a list of all the official times for all roh matches since they began.

Possible AotF recruits?
Maybe Sami Callihan, the DCFC guy that isn't injured, Irish Airborne, or the return of Joey Matthews!

AOTF should be such a hot stable, but ROH have rendered them irrelevant. And Guido Maritato? Seriously? No disrespect, but this isnt cutting edge like Gabe booked. ROH is turning into a TNA-style over 40's club.

Damn, ROH has gone down the shitter. Steenerico, Tyler Black, Kenny Omega, Aries, Danielson, Briscoes, maybe Davey Richards. Thats it. The rest of the roster is so boring.

DGUSA...come on Gabe, lets bring wrestling back to the 21st century.
