Various News: Undertaker Return Update, Lashley’s TNA Contract Status, Grenier Talks ROH, More
Posted by Larry Csonka on 05.18.2009
Lots of news to kick off the day!
- TNA wants Rhaka Khan to improve before being brought back to TV.
- ODB wasn't at the last set of TV tapings because they do not know where they are going with the Cody Deaner angle. ODB's contract expires on November.
- Bobby Lashley wasn't brought into the last tapings because he didn't sign a contract, and the company won't use him on TV until he signs, because that's bad for business. Yes, make your own jokes. Lashley has stated that they have to work through scheduling issues before he signs.
- WWE is looking for the Undertaker to return in July for the build to the Summerslam PPV.
- Sylvan Grenier, who worked for Ring of Honor on April 18th in Montreal, had the following comments on the company:
"I don't think I'm pretty much their style right now. All those spots and meaningless big bumps, it's not my type. I like storylines, and I like to have fun. I like to feel the ring, feel the crowd and not go 100 miles per hour. It's a different mindset. I think they have the potential to become as big as TNA because now they have television and great exposure. They need to go back to the old school because all those spots don't mean anything if you don't have a storyline. Think they're just killing themselves out there, and they're not drawing more."

"- TNA wants Rhaka Khan to improve before being brought back to TV."
Now I get it, she wants Angle, not the other way around
Let ODB wrestle and only taunt once in a while. She doesn't have to smack he boob after every body slam. She's a good wrestler too, get rid of Deaner. There's no reason that should dictate her postion in TNA

Wow, that LockDown shocker is already looking promising! Can't wait to see what TNA does with Lashley...
...Oh, he wasn't signed? So much for that. CROSS THE LINE!!!

Its funny cause its true, watch out Sylvain you will have 50 keyboard warriors at your house ... errr sending harsh emails.

Starting an angle and bringing in someone new just to get in a few cheap laughs, then dropping the angle entirely after you've realized you've written yourself into a corner, thus negating any character development with everyone involved with the angle and blowing perfectly good TV time that could have been used to build up and elevate talent that needs the building up, is GOOD for business?!
Jesus Christ, TNA really IS 2000 WCW. Now all they need is a Vince Russo shoot on live PPV and WWE can start writing the eulogy.
tl;dr - LOL TNA.

TNA is a joke.

TNA SUCKS.
and I speak the truth about ROH as well. Face it...they all want to be in the WWE.
Posted By: Sylvan Grenier (Guest) on May 18, 2009 at 01:11 AM
I agree with Grenier to an extent. If ROH wants to build their stars up, they need them to be able to walk upright & function. However, I remember Adam Pearce eventually got over in ROH and he didn't actually kill himself all the time. It is possible...I'm just not sure Grenier could get over with the ROHbots because not only is he not a "highspot" guy, he's a ex-WWE guy...and a sucky one at that!

You are a moron. Continuous spots doesn't make a match. Problem with in indies they're spotting for a pop instead popping for the flow and the storytelling of the match. What's missing is psychology and killing themselves with spots aren't worth it.

Agree with Sylvan 100%.
Fuck all you ROH fanboys! The reason most people watch WWE anyway is because they have lives outside of wrestling, so they don't have the time to go looking for other shitty promotions. Enjoy being lonely, ROHfags.

Posted By: Meirsch (Guest) on May 18, 2009 at 04:41 AM
So TNA talked about the former World Champion they'd "signed", and it turns out he never signed the deal.
WHY HAVE HIM APPEAR ON YOUR PPV AND TV SHOW THEN???? Why make the entrance video for a guy not signed? That cost some money, and for what? A stupid 'surprise' that few people gave a shit about? And the ODB stuff, that's classic WCW dumbassery there.
TNA : All the potential in the world, just not the brains to realise it.

'has anyone ever seen a clip of a wcw nitro where tony schiavone slips and says "what the F is going on!" ? if you have where can i find it. '
Not sure what that has to do with this news report but to answer your question it was the January 4th 1999 edition of Nitro, it's the imfamous 'fingerpoke of doom' episode where the nWo reforms. He says it at the end of the show when Lex Luger turns heel and racks Goldberg.
I actually uploaded this show at pwtorrents about 6 months ago so I guess you could try there if you can register atm.

CRAP! why does Taker have to come back? Can't he go to Raw with the rest of the useless 'main event stars'
Posted By: scott (Guest) on May 18, 2009 at 08:19 AM
Sylvain doesn't like highspots or big bumps. He likes storylines.
Hrmm...he's never done any of the three...I wonder if he doesn't like spaghetti or sausage...and if he does like Cinnamon Toast Crunch...
Yes, highspots can ruin a career. I mean, look at Flair! The man's NEVER hit a highspot in his life! And then there's El Santo, whose 48-year career didn't ever contain more than a headlock and right hook. Yep, highspots have no place in wrestling! In fact, the only way to tell a story is WITHOUT highspots! HHH and Undertaker proved this back at Backlash '02, right?! ***** classic without anything other than a few jabs and a clothesline!

Posted By: bwahahaha (Guest) on May 18, 2009 at 08:32 AM
ROH will slowly scale back because of the huge loss of tv exposure with Time Warner dropping their asses. So looks like they'll go from 0.0001 to 0.00001! Enjoy your 500 people packing into a building to see Spot Monkeys kill each other! ROH chokes on Vince's c**k!!!!

You are a WWE Fanboy. I'm sorry I find Bryan Danielson picking apart a body part more "psychological" than Randy Orton holding a five minute chinlock.

This.
Posted By: marl e. (Guest) on May 18, 2009 at 09:42 AM
There seems to be some confusion as to what "ring psychology" and "highspots" are. The top ROH guys (Lynn, Danielson, Aries, Black, etc) are all MASTERS of in-ring psychology, while WWE RARElY pays attention to it outside of an HBK match. Of the top ROH guys, really ONLY Aries does "highspots" with any regularity, but he does it in a way that makes sene. Shoot, sometimes in WWE guys don't even sell!! That's wrestling 101!!
Have any of you actually watched ROH?
Posted By: Dr J (Guest) on May 18, 2009 at 10:17 AM
Sylvan Grenier wouldn't know ring psychology if it hit him in the face. He's just mad because ROH wouldn't let him wrestle. Wise decision that. But it was an unwise decision by the new booker to even bring him in for a speaking roll. He, like most other WWE castoffs, can't put so much as one extra butt in the seats. They're a waste of good money that should go to the ROH wrestlers' paychecks.

You guys are idiots. The only spotfests in ROH are usually their scramble matches. The main event has always been filled with solid wrestling.
Most of the 411 readers are children that started watching wrestling in 2002 and don't even know that their precious WWE used to be 10 times as good as it is now.

So apparently you started watching wrestling yesterday.
Undertaker is old. Orton is an ass clown. Who do you think should be pushed?
You trolls complain about all kinds of things yet you never offer a solution to the problem you are complaining about.
Since you haven't been watching wrestling that long, why not give up and watch something else. Not only would you help yourself but you would help us all out by not having to read your idiotic comments!
Posted By: 411 trolls suck! (Guest) on May 18, 2009 at 11:42 AM
If you take advice from Sylvan Grenier on how to work your promotion, you deserve to go out of business.
Otherwise...fuck that guy. He has NO IDEA.

You clearly have never watched a match in ROH. The best matches CLEARLY tell a story encapsulated in just that match. If you think WWE does that...I can't help you. Constantly replaying an event doesn't mean it advances any story.

Man, when *TNA* wants you to improve, you must REALLY suck. Isn't that kind of like saying to a serial rapist "we'd like you to become a murderer"?
Posted By: Lucius (Guest) on May 18, 2009 at 01:30 PM
Why the bloody Hell do TNA insist on trying to work a big angle with Lashley when he isn't under contract? Are Russo, Jarrett and friends bloody idiots - oh of course they are (and this coming from a TNA fan).
Posted By: JAK (Guest) on May 18, 2009 at 01:42 PM
The ROH bashers still don't get it, and still think they look cool because they can make their stupid little comments from behind the safety of mommy's computer.
Yes, ROH does have storylines. As a matter of fact, the story of BJ Whitmer vs. Jimmy Jacobs ran longer than ANY recent storyline in WWE or TNA.
Yes, their matches have ring psychology to them. The matches do tell a story. Watch any Bryan Danielson match and try and tell me otherwise.
Yes, there are high spots, just as any other company. This is the one area where I will criticize some ROH guys, because they seem to do too many of them. Thankfully, most of those spot monkeys (like Jack Evans) are no longer with the company, or at least aren't full time.
In short - the people in here bashing ROH are people that have never paid attention to the product.
Posted By: Scott B (Guest) on May 18, 2009 at 02:31 PM
If anyone wants to say there's a lack of psychology in ROH, can I ask: have you seen Danielson or McGuinness wrestle? They're throwbacks to the '80s. Yeah, some of the younger guys like Black need to a bit of work, but they're a hell of a lot further along than Ricky fucking Ortiz. Or at least, what WWE allows to see of Ortiz. And no one should call spot monkey at ROH when WWE employs Evan Bourne and Tyson Kidd, both guys who can wrestle but are getting over with WWE's audience solely based on the fact that they're being portrayed as spot monkeys.
As for Grenier's assertion they aren't drawing more, I'll also ask: indie show hypes an appearance by Danielson and another hypes an appearance by Grenier. I'm pretty confident in my assumption that Danielson will outdraw Grenier.
Posted By: Guest#7563 (Guest) on May 18, 2009 at 02:54 PM
Grenier also says they're not drawing more which I find funnier considering they just got on TV and have expanded their territory.
Posted By: elgrannoche (Guest) on May 18, 2009 at 03:21 PM
Undertaker has to just retire and go away. he has got old and boring. Same old crap year after year. If you watch the guy. He can no longer wrestle. Just goes around jumping of ropes and punching. *SAD*

This has to be, bar none, one of the dumbest comments ever on this site. I like both WWE and ROH, but you're saying watching WWE -- which has around TEN hours of wrestling on a week -- somehow makes someone less of a loser than watching a single hour of ROH? Is that really where you're going with this?
This is stone cold retarded. I've seen epileptic monkeys missing half their brains with better common sense that this. Special Olympians would laugh at this. I cannot stress how stupid you are, and I only hope you're kept from breeding so that we can remove the toxic sludge you consider DNA from the gene pool.
In closing, for the safety of others, please don't drive or operate any heavy machinery. And make sure to wear your helmet at all times. Thanks.
Posted By: Deathpool (Guest) on May 18, 2009 at 03:50 PM
Grenier's absolutely right. you gotta be a complete bafoon to think a bunch of spot monkeys make a promotion. what he is wrong about is that ROH just isn't all spots. the spot fests are usually limited to about 2 or 3 matches, the rest are ring psychology.
so half maroon, half smart.
what a mark!
Posted By: Raven (Guest) on May 18, 2009 at 04:03 PM
Please, nobody correct Sylvan. I'd rather he think that and not wrestle there than keep on working there.
