More Various News: Divas Do Charity, CZW Wrestler Gets Stabbed
Posted by Ashish on 06.07.2009

- Mickie James, Tiffany, and Trish Stratus were involved with this year's 300 event, which takes special needs kids from Toronto to Disney World in Orlando.

- Nick Gage was seriously injured in a match at the 8th annual Tournament of Death last night when he was stabbed in his underarm and apparently had an artery severed. Gage wanted to continue the match but eventually had to be taken to the hospital via helicopter. He had surgery and is now in the hospital for observation.

Now that's hardcore.

And that's why CZW is a joke of a promotion

Posted By: Mark (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 03:27 PM

A $5000+ hospital stay for a $150 payout. Wonder who is going to pick up that tab.....oh wat, that would be us!

CZW= We Are Wrestling.

I'm sure Jim Cornette will LOVE that.

Those fans that chant "He's Hardcore! He's Hardcore! He's Hardcore!" Wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire you selfish son of a bitch!!!!

Posted By: cactus jack (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 03:46 PM

I believe accidents are about the only way you can get Gage to juice in a match! Which is, of course, fairly absurd for a purported deathmatch wrestler.

Posted By: Lucius (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 03:50 PM

Once again, CZW PROVES that it is the WORST promotion in North America!

Well, except for that one run by Ian Rotten but I won't even give him the satisfaction of calling it a "promotion".

Stabbed as in intentional knife stabbing?

Posted By: Dave (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 04:06 PM

Sounds like an old ECW show

CZW - Where Wrestling Goes to Die!!!
Seriously, have you tried watching one of their shows? It's the most borderline unwatchable shit-pile that I've ever witnessed....and I've seen XPW.

Posted By: dennett316 (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 04:23 PM

did samoa joe stab him?

Gage is now a hero to dozens...

Stabbed as in, shitty backyard wrestling accident.

Posted By: Guest#5704 (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 04:33 PM

In all seriousness, it's only a matter of time for something much worse happens. I enjoy a good bloody brawl as much as the next person, but CZW, IWA and others "deathmatch" organizations pride themselves on constantly raising the bar vis-a-vis crazy blood-letting stunts. Mark my words; the next incident will result in a serious career-ending injury or death of a wrestler(s). Enough is enough and something has to give.

Posted By: Guest#2652 (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 04:36 PM

yeah i've seen some of stabbing and cutting in the czw matches...pretty sick and definitely not worth the pay the wrestlers will be getting.

Posted By: Guest#9812 (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 04:52 PM

something needs to be done now b4 a wrestler dies in 1 of these so-called "wrestling" events. Its a shame these wrestlers have to go through these promotions to try and m,ake it in this business and have promoters like CZW willing to let them do it.

Posted By: theiceone (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 05:02 PM

It's all fun and games until someone gets stabbed.

Posted By: the other Ryan (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 05:17 PM

CZW is far more "hardcore" than ECW, but for the worst.

Posted By: saiyahog84 (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 05:22 PM

so messiah gets his thumb cut off and a fish tank busted over his head a few years back and nick gage gets stabbed in the arm pit. CZW sounds like the place to be! fuck every wrestler's dream of maing it to "the big time"! you wanna make a name for yourself by getting involved with gangs or having to be helicoptered to a hospital, go to CZ-dubbya! thats not even wrestling anymore man, its butchery.

Posted By: sour grapes (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 05:43 PM

The real issue with CZW is they have no talent right now. I haven't seen it in ages, but if Younger is still there, he's about the only one. At least he can actually wrestle as well as do the hardcore shit.

Just a few years ago they had a great roster of wrestlers, and really could have done away with the garbage stuff. Now it seems like the early days again where it's nothing but talentless guys hitting each other with lighttubes.

Posted By: KX (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 05:44 PM

He wasnt stabbed, it was a light tube spot gone wrong. Either way it was retarded.

Posted By: CM Hero (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 05:49 PM

"Gage wanted to continue the match"

Unreal. I'm sure the hardcore CZW fans will commend him for his devotion to their entertainment but if you're bleeding bucks from having AN ARTERY SEVERED and want to finish the match, you're a stupid mark.

Posted By: Guest#3112 (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 05:56 PM

CZW is fucking garbage and shouldnt be allowed to exist

Posted By: Guest#8208 (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 06:09 PM

I'm shocked!

Posted By: Sarcasm (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 06:20 PM

fuck czw, they are the epitome of whats wrong with wrestling, hardcore has its place in wrestling, but not like what they showcase, its disgusting and i am amazed that nothing far worse hasn't happened yet.

Posted By: COdy (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 06:22 PM

The divas never took me to any goddamn park!!!!!!

ROH does hardcore right with cage,Fight with out honor,War of the Wire. While places like CZW,XPW,IWA MS just gets backyarders gives them Scissors,Stable guns, and Lighttubes and say screw any real wrestling Abilty just go out there and kill yourself I am sure that will make you a Youtube superstar.

Posted By: spike (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 06:58 PM

calling czw wrestling is an insult to wrestling.

Posted By: rey (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 07:06 PM

shit on CZW all you want but Nick Gage is a hell of a worker and one of the best at what he does. Nick you're in my prayers man.

Posted By: Klossing (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 07:11 PM

A long time ago I never understood why there were purists who were against the ECW/CZW/Garbage Indy style which resulted in the above described style. Well, guess what? This stabbing proves old school "scientific style" is much better and somewhat safer...actually, a lot safer.
"He's hardcore, he's hardcore, he's hardcore!!!" (and lacks the common knowledge to stay the *%#@ away from that type of nonsense in the ring...)
Am I wrong here?

Posted By: D-Bo (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 07:22 PM

Ok now why did his opponent stab him and why did Mr. Gage agree to get stabbed and why was anyone surprised that stab wounds can stop matches.

Congratulations TNA, you are no longer the dumbest promotion (though TNA World Champion Mick Foley keeps you at a close second)

Posted By: Guest#5537 (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 07:24 PM

he wanted to finish the match? He ran to the back as soon as it happend!

Posted By: Guest#9371 (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 07:28 PM

Gage getting stabbed will be the selling point of the 8th TOD dvd

I read the headline for this story and wondered, "Who is Charity?"

This was the same tournament that featured some guy stabbing another one with a syringe right?

Wrestling's never looked so good.

Old school fans will put down hardcore wrestling but damned if Wahoo McDaniel didn't have a forehead that looked like it was made from stretched taffy from all the times he willingly bled. Ric Flair would admit with pride to having bled a thousand times, so how do they figure that sort of self mutilation is somehow "good" and "part of real wrestling"? The most stupid senseless thing I've ever heard of in any wrestling promotion happened under the watch of Vince McMahon when Owen Hart died doing a stunt he didn't even want to do and was a stunt that wasn't even gonna get him over with the fans if it hadn't gone wrong.

Posted By: Kenny (Guest)  on June 07, 2009 at 10:35 PM

Kenny,
I understand the point you are trying to make, but unfortunately, you are miles away from making a GOOD point. First, please, please please.....DO NOT put Wahoo McDaniel and Ric Flair in the same category as CZW. They are a GALAXY away from where CZW is. In fact, CZW's galaxy could explode and Ric Flair wouldn't even hear it explode. Wahoo was a genuine BAD ASS and a few chops or strap shots would send those backyard wrestlers to the nearest Dairy Queen for their next career. The QUALITY of entertainment is also evident as THOUSANDS of people would show up to actual ARENAS and not some truck stop or bowling alley. If CZW is your preference, that's okay, but let the figures do the talking and you'll see that not many people are jumping on the bandwagon.

CZW is pure junk. Honestly I don't know how people enjoy it.

Stabbed in the armpit.. must admit thats a new one.

According to Bret Hart, the art of pro wrestling is to make it look like you're hurting opponent without hurting him at all. Regarding chops Hart said "They hurt and they look like crap." He has a good point. Why would you stand there and allow your opponent to repeatedly chop you in the chest if you were trying to make it look like a realistic competition? Wrestlers just stand there getting chopped without even looking like they're trying to defend themselves. That doesn't look right, and the guy doing the chops doesn't look right either because if you're trying to hurt a guy, the chest is one of the least vulnerable areas to getting hurt. Chops will give an annoying kind of pain and maybe break some blood vessels or even draw a little blood, but the chest is a lousy area to target if you're fighting someone which is why you never see fighters attack the chest in MMA. Getting chopped in the chest hurts just enough to be really annoyingly painful, but not painful in the kind of way that wins a fight. While a guy is reaching way back about to throw a chop, he's also leaving his face totally exposed to attack. It's not good strategy or "ring psychology" as some call strategy. The other thing you mentioned- strap shots - is using a weapon and thereby a type of hardcore wrestling. You don't use weapons in scientific wrestling, right? There are just too many examples of old timers doing hardcore wrestling such as using blades on themselves andscarring themselves permanently, or using weapons such as leather straps, ropes with cowbells attached, and barbed wire in matches from the era of Wahoo McDaniel and Dusty Rhodes for the purist argument against hardcore wrestling to have any real merit.

stabbed? in a wrestling match. come on. that's just plain stupid. ECW was bloody and had a lot of shit but stabbed? that place needs shut down. seriously.

Stabbed as in someone forgot to tell New Jack he wasn't invited?

Posted By: Talon (Guest)  on June 08, 2009 at 12:12 AM

Isn't this the same promotion that let a show continue after have a dudes skull came off? What a fucking joke...no wonder Necro has been spending most of his time in RoH and CHIKARA.

Posted By: Ramsey (Guest)  on June 08, 2009 at 11:38 AM

Is that the kid that was on the episode G4 Underground? I think he said on that the payout for a match was about $200 and he's the champion!

Following that logic, if the number of fans who come to a show dictates, the value. If there had been 100K people at this show, it wouldn't matter. If you are willing to risk your health in that manner, you're an idiot and as someone said earlier, the worst kind of mark.

But, yes, there is a difference between this and Flair/Wahoo. There's a big difference between blading and getting your stomach cut open to the point where an HELICOPTER has to come get you. All bloodletting in wrestling is not the same. I can't believe someone would even make such a ridiculous argument.
