411 Wrestling Feedback: Who Was The First Wrestler(s) You Hated?
Posted by Larry Csonka on 06.15.2009

When we all started watching wrestling, we all had a wrestler(s) that we hated!

Who Was The First Wrestler You Hated?

As I mentioned last week, I grew up an NWA fan, as I watched that more than anything else. When I was a young lad, Dusty Rhodes was just the shit. The funny thing was I didn't hate the Four Horsemen or Nikita Koloff during that time. Actually, the wrestlers I hated were two guys I thought ruled the world, The Road Warriors. The day that they turned on Dusty Rhodes, beat him down and BUSTED him open with one of their spikes was a horrifying thing to watch as a youth, and that day, they earned my wrath for what they did to Dusty Rhodes. I hated them for years for that attack…

So what about you? Who Was The First Wrestler You Hated? Why did you hate them more than anyone else? Let us know in the comments!

The first fucking wrestler I hated is none other than Vincent Kennedy McMahon, because he is an incompetent jackass that gets even more senile nowadays. He blew it with the Invasion angle, because he wanted to bury WCW. Would Eric Bischoff do the same thing if WCW have bought the WWE? I don't think so, because Eric Bischoff has even more brains than that senile old man they call Vinnie Mac.

The first wrestler I hated was Hulk Hogan, because his act was so boring and that he held everybody else down. I wanted to see Rowdy Roddy Piper get the big belt, but he never got a chance, because of that damn steriod-fueled bald headed jackass Huckster!

I don't remember hating any wrestler. I'd have favorites but there wasn't anybody that I actually didn't like.

Sgt. Slaughter, Iraqi Sympathizer. I was an innocent kid and thought the U.S. was perfect back then.

For the most part same with me but if I had to choose, it would probably be Yokozuna, IRS and Paul Bearer

Triple H.

Posted By: Guest#7418 (Guest)  on June 14, 2009 at 11:06 PM

While I was tempted to say Triple H, there have been times where I haven't hated him. I didn't hate him in WCW, I didn't hate him during his Greenwich Blueblood phase, and I liked him in DX, with Shawn and later with X-Pac, the NAO, and Chyna.

Bradshaw, JBL, Asshole... whatever you want to call him, he's the wrestler that I dislike the most, possibly even hate. He was boring when he first showed up in the WWF, I didn't give a shit about him when he was in the APA, and as JBL he was equally as bland and shitty. I can't comment much on his Smackdown commentating so I'll keep my trap closed on that.

Yes, he was boring in the ring with one of the lamest finishers ever, but he also struck me as a complete asshole outside the ring who could get awy with whatever he wanted because he sucked up to the right people. He seemed like an arrogant bully of a person, someone who thought they were hot shit, but only when he knew the odds were in his favor, like a guy who challenges others to a fight only if he's got four or five people to jump in and save him if he starts getting his ass kicked.

He's your typical macho dickhead who acts bad but isn't as tough as he thinks he is (see Styles, Joey and bitch, making Bradshaw his).

I dislike Hardcore Holly for similar reasons. At least he got to bang Kathy Dingman though.

Hulk Hogan, couldnt stand the guy in WCW.
The Rock, I hated him around 1999 and 2000 when I was a kid, couldnt stand wrestlers trying to be funny.

Owen Hart. Bret was already hurt from his match with the Quebecers and then Owen goes and kicks him in the leg. :(

X-Pac- not even triple h could hold hold a candle to this shit bag

When I first started watching, it was the summer of 1997. My first PPV I ever saw was Survivor Series '97. And I was, and still am to this day, an HBK mark. My first wrestler I hated: Bret Hart. I wanted HBK to beat his brains in that night. Win the title in front of the Canadian crowd.....

And he won. By submission. To Bret's sharpshooter.

Alas, as it turned out 2 things died that night. My belief that wrestling was real and that Bret Hart wasn't deserving of hate. Life seemed easier at 11...

Triple H especially around the late 1999 era.

Shawn Michaels circa November 1997.

I grew up during the days of great Memphis wrestling programs and I think the first wrestler I hated was Dutch Mantel with his whole bull whip tobacco chewing hairy backed attitude. I was a huge mark cause I bought into every single twist and turn on those shows. I can't tell you how many times I bought into Dundee, Mantel, Idol turning on Lawler and then always turning back. The first mainstream national wrestler I hated was Nikita Koloff. That surly bad ass made me want to throw shit through the TV. But I guess I hated characters. Now it's Hogan, never bought into Hulkamania.

I really hated Ted DiBiase as a kid. Now, I appreciate what a good job he did as a heel, and he is one of my all time favorites.

I'm going to let the hate flow through me. I'd have to go with kevin Sullivan. He may have been a good booker, but as a worker he sucked. I couldn't stand him. Alex Wright was another guy I hated. Most hated is Obi Wan and Luke Skywalker though. Long live the Empire!

Posted By: Emperor Palpatine (Guest)  on June 15, 2009 at 12:09 AM

Ted DiBiase cut an insane promo on the Detroit crown during a house show I saw when I was 8 or 9. I can honestly say he was the first guy who I really hated as a kid.

Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff because the WWF marketing machine made Hogan such a big star and Orndorff such a big louse!

Christy Hemme, because Trish Stratus didn't like her when she won the diva search so neither did I.

When I was 5 years old I remember seeing Earthquake injure Hulk Hogan, knocking the Hulkster out of commission for a while before coming back and facing Earthquake at Summerslam 90'.

I also hated Bobby Heanan and told my parents that I would beat him up if I ever saw him at an airport.

I also was deathly afraid of the Undertaker. In going to a WWE show back in 91' or so I asked my dad what I should do if the Undertaker started to come after me.

Posted By: Daniel (Guest)  on June 15, 2009 at 12:13 AM

Yokozuna for sure.

I already disliked the guy, but on one episode of Raw he hit the Banzai Drop constantly on Crush, my fav. wrestler at the time, and I wanted to kill that guy for it.

Posted By: BR (Guest)  on June 15, 2009 at 12:15 AM

Yokozuna, I started watching in 1993 during his monster heel run, so I couldn't wait for Bret Hart to take the title back from him. I also didn't like Hogan because of the WM9 shenanigans. That was Bret's belt you orange bastard!

Jake the Snake after he tied Macho Man tied to the ropes to be "bitten" by a cobra. It scared the crud out of me back in the day.

Grr

I gotta go with Yokozuna and Ric Flair. Seeing Yokozuna beat Bret Hart for the WWF Championship made me very sad as a child. Also, I remember hating Ric Flair winning the 1992 Royal Rumble. Makes me appreciate now how great of a heel he really was back then.

Stone Cold Steve Austin, I started watching wrestling in 1997 and I was a new Canadian and hated how he ridiculed my adopted homeland. But in a few short months he became my favourite.

Even as a super marky kid of 5 or so, I loved the heels. I was a huge Million $ Man fan when all my cousins who I watched wrestling with were Hulkamaniacs.

In spite of that, 5 years later or so, everything Owen Hart did made me hate him so much. He was just such a whiny, underhanded little snot who had the audacity to actually be quite a good wrestler.

As I'm sure lots of people will mention here, eventually, I came to appreciate what a good heel he was, and started to enjoy his work. I really hated him for a few years though.

Kane!!! Ha, I was a bit of a late bloomer when it comes to wrestling, because my parents told me not to watch this shit. Occasionally, though, me and my best buddy o' mine would turn on Smackdown or whatever and watch. I just remember one day when we were about 10 years old, probably after WM16, we were watching and Kane was having a one man chokeslam orgy or something. And we wanted to kill him. Sue us, we were 10. Peace.

Makes me laugh to this very day.

The Honkytonk man. Without a doubt the worst wrestler ever to hold a major title. When I was 12 I was irate that he "stole" the belt from Steamboat, and couldn't believe Vince had put the hottest belt in the company on a total dud like Honky.

as a little kid i hated hulk hogan because when i was really little i looked up to my oldest brother who's favorite wrestler was Randy Savage so i just like him liked randy savage and this was around WMV and i couldnt understand why Randy lost. Ididnt understand why Randy went bad and became the Macho King, i blamed it on Hulk hogan

Honky Tonk Man. Did not F'n get it as a kid. Knew he was doing a bad Elvis impression, but did not understand why. When he debuted as Hulk Hogan's secret Tag Team Partner I was so let down. I just thought he was lame and boring and hokey. I was a kid and still found him hokey. But then he went heal and I was supposed to hate him and it all made sense to me. Now I respect him as one of the best heels in wrestling history because he was so unlikeable. Kudos to you Honky Tonky Man for making me hate you.

Ah, this would probably be back when the Undertaker wore the gray (later purple) gloves and leggings and was powered by the urn, aka back when he kicked ass. I think lots of kids were legimately freaked out by him, even if they knew wrestling was fake. He was eerie.

You can pride in the fact that if he tried to come after you nowadays he'd end up somehow fucking up his hip and leave you alone.

I love how people act like they were smart to wrestling when they first started watching...And people who hate JBL, he's a heel, he's doing his job! He's one of the best heels.
The first wrestler I hated that I can remember was The Rock when he was fighting Goldberg, I liked him before but Goldberg was the shit cause he was from Tulsa and could spear the hell outta people. I'll admit I was a huge mark for certain people even though I knew it was predetermined.

Posted By: Kayfabe 24/7 (Guest)  on June 15, 2009 at 12:47 AM

Shawn Michaels in 1996 after he beat one of my favorites Bret Hart. I also hated Hollywood Hogan too.

If we are talking non-kayfabe, I always hated Eugene and how he was more over than the champ Chris Benoit in 2004.

Posted By: Bunkhouse Buck (Guest)  on June 15, 2009 at 12:47 AM

I was watching as a little kid in the 80's, and the guy I initially "hated" was probably King Kong Bundy. He looked villainous, was intimidating, and always had beef with Hogan. For me as a kid (5 or so), that was reason enough not to like the guy. Plus he fought with, and hurt midgets (Wrestlemania III)

Posted By: MRSOBAY (Guest)  on June 15, 2009 at 12:48 AM

Shawn Michaels. I hated him first for throwing Marty Janettty through the plate glass window thus killing the rockers.

Also, Jake The Snake Roberts for locking Mach Man up in the ropes and having Damien bite Macho. I loved Macho he was the shit in my eyes and I hated seeing that done.

And finally. In WCW it was Rick Rude. When I first started watching I know he was feuding with Sting and I believe over the US title. However Rude was such a pathetic mess in my eyes. Fucker cheated all over the place and whenever he hit an actual move he would get up and do the pelvic thrust that Val Venis adopted.

Rowdy Piper. Even though he was a face at the time, I couldn't stand him for covering half of his body in black paint for his feud with Bad News Brown.
I was only six and knew Piper needed his head kicked in for that one

BIG BOSS MAN

Wrestlemania 6 - SKYDOME - TORONTO, ONT

I was 12 and my buddy and snuck in to the Hard Rock Cafe, looking for autographs. We got some from HBK/Jennety, Bret, Snuka, Duggan, but the boss man looked me straight in the eye and said "beat it kid I dont do autographs". HATED the bastered ever since

Probably Tully Blanchard, he was constantly feuding with Dusty Rhodes, and at the time I didn't appreciate his work in the ring and he was such a dick. But now he is one of my faves of all time. I guess it's kinda like looking back on your toughest teachers, those are always the ones you ended up respecting. But I also hated Paul Jones, for his feud with Jimmy Valant, but I hated him then and I hate him now, what a long feud that was...

Here's a squirrelly answer: The Rockers.

As a kid immersed in kayfabe, I believed in these two. I pulled for them in every match, only to see them lose time after time. I got tired of seeing them lose all the time, so I heel turn'd on them, and never looked back.

In retrospect, of course I appreciate the work of Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty. But at the time, they were a perpetual let-down for me.

Honorable mention to WWF-era Dusty Rhodes. They turned the American Dream into a polka-dotted sideshow joke. What more can I say? Oh, and Koko B. Ware.

Are we talking kayfabe hate or real life hate?

Real-life, it was Hogan, after I saw what he and his friends did to WCW in the mid 90's. (94-95).

Kayfabe, I'd have to go with somebody like Savage or ANdre the Giant, who played their heel roles to perfection in 1987.

Posted By: Michael L (Guest)  on June 15, 2009 at 12:59 AM

After 73 responses, no one listed Andre the Giant? I'm surprised. I was six years old when I started watching wrestling back in 1987, and everyone HATED Andre.

I completely respect his entire body of work now, but back then, I was scared to death of him and couldn't wait for Hogan to beat him again and again.

Ultimate Warrior.

I was a huge Warrior mark, and I was really excited to see the Match Made in Hell tag match at SummerSlam 91.

Instead, I saw the fucking incredible Hart/Perfect IC title match. I wasn't familiar with the NWA, and was too new to wrestling to have seen Savage/Steamboat, so all I knew was the Hogan/Warrior formula of kicking, punching and no selling at the last minute.

Hart/Hennig shattered what I enjoyed about wrestling, and gave me something new to love. The downside was that all of the faults in a typical WWF main event became highlighted. The fact that Warrior failed to even finish the match cause me to experience my first cynical moment in my wrestling fandom.

In hindsight, while the IC title match was indeed quite good, it turns out that those guys had been working on the formula for that match for a couple of years. Every single match they had together was filled with the same spots, often in the same order. This even carried over to their WCW matches nearly a decade later.

Still, it was new and fresh to me at the time, and it was so good that it managed to inspire hate. Thanks guys!

Easily, Jim Cornette. I hated how he was a self-proclaimed mama's boy and had the Midnight Express cash the checks his mouth wrote. I so wanted the RnR express or whoever they were feuding with to get a hold of him and beat him with his loaded racquet. I loved seeing him get his just desserts at times. I look back and laugh now at the magnificent job he did. Kudos, Mr. Cornette.

I didn't get into wrestling big time until super recently (about 2004/2005), so I can honestly say MNM. I loved Londrick and was angry that MNM were hogging the belts.

Orlando Jordan made me angry too. He was just so bland in a sea full of cartoon characters.

It wasn't a wrestler but a manager and stable. It would be Skandar Akabar. I actually had nightmares as a kid that he was sending his monsters after me and I couldn't get away.

I remember a Mid South match I went to with my mom and we had front row seats and Akabar got in my mom's face and insulted her.

God, I hated that man.

Although my first hated wrestler is likely a popular pick amongst the whiny smarks around here, it is for a completely different reason. For some reason, I have always found heels to be more entertaining than faces, even when I was a little kid, so I grew up rooting for Randy Savage, Ric Flair, and the Undertaker. So it was natural for me to hate their good guy enemies, which for all of them was Hulk Hogan. I never found him to be interesting, even as a kid in the '80's. The same goes for the Ultimate Warrior, but he came about a little later than when I first became a fan.

While I recognized a lot of other wrestlers as "bad guys", the first individual to get me to really rally against them was Vince McMahon during his feud with Austin. I wasn't that into Austin, I just wanted to see Vince get his ass kicked.

From watching wrestling on World of Sport back in the day: Giant Haystacks and Big Daddy. The former because he was the bad guy, the latter because he had about three moves (most of 'em involving hitting his opponent with his massive belly).

First saw US wrestling in the mid to late '80s and my ire was quickly aimed at one person: Hulk Hogan. Just everything about him - fewer moves than poses, cheating was fine as long as the opponent was foreign and Hulking up remains one of the dumbest things my eyes have ever seen.

I still maintain that Hogan was the American version of Big Daddy. One was pasty white and obese, the other a shade of orange not found in the natural world and 'roided up to the eyeballs; both marketed towards kids, mega over and not actually all that good at wrestling.

That same night back on April 1, 1990, I cheered for Earthquake, and couldn't stand Hercules. That was night one. The first person I couldn't really stand watch wrestling, was Jacques Rougeau as the Mountie. There are people who cheat to win. There are others. His gimmick of being law enforcment, and then cheating every time, on top of I AM THE MOUNTIE, really made me cringe. So my vote goes to "The Mountie." Jacques Rougeau the wrestler is alright.

The first guy I truely hated was HHH around 2003 and even now I can't stand the guy not because he isn't a great performer but because of the lop-sided booking in his favour over the years.

Hulk Hogan. I started watching wrestling in 1989. A guy I worked with was a "Hulkamaniac", so I started watching so I could give him a hard time. It didn't take long for me to start hating Hogan.
I was in the crowd the night that he teamed with the Warrior against Mr. Perfect and The Genius for a taping of SNME. I knew what was coming, and started counting down the days til Wrestlemania VI. Strange that I got hooked on wrestling because of the one person I can't stand.

Oddly enough, HBK--who happens to be my all-time favorite wrestler. But I but between his I-C feud with Marty Jannetty and the fact that he attacked Mr. Perfect--then my favorite wrestler--at Wrestlemania 9, I couldn't stand Shawn in 1993-94. By the 95 Rumble, however, that all started to change. He turned face shortly thereafter, and he's been my favorite ever since.

I never hated any wrestler per-say, since characters are all part of the sport. Sometimes certain occassions bear some wrath however, such as the Road Warriors/Dusty angle. I remember when the late Eddie Gilbert ran down Lawler with a car, which was shocking by standards at the time.

Although there is one man who left an impression and created some loathing on my part, but not by what happened in-ring, but by things he has stated off script. That man is one Paul Roma..for this pompous jerk to state on numerous occasions that he was the best thing to ever come from the Horsemen and that Flair was jealous of him is ludicrous and absurd. Roma is a talentless asshole who always hid behind a tag partner to find success..ie Jim Powers, Warlord, and Paul Orndorff. If I were to hate anyone in the sport, it would be Roma, because he exemplifies the ignorance of the business, and IMO leaves a black mark on the sport as a result.

Hulk Hogan, even during the late 80's I never got why so many people went crazy for the guy, his matches always fell short of the guys just under him, Brother!

I disliked Hogan as kid. Over exposure I think. But I didn't really hate him...

I probably HATED Shawn Michaels first for throwing his buddy through a window (which doesn't look nearly as devastating now) and for being so "flamboyant". But we're cool now.

Honky Tonk Man, he just seemed so untalented. Wasn't big and muscular, he didn't seem like he could wrestle a lick, and had a lame @ss finishing move.

I was a huge Steamboat mark and was so deflated when the lame Elvis guy beat on of all things Superstars one Saturday morning. Still get disappointed when I think about how he lost in such an anticlimactic way to a talentless hack.

Am sure apologists will say he was a good talker and while he was annoying I didn't want to see him get beat (like say Bobby Heenan or Brother Love) I just wanted him off my TV and would be bored with his matches.

Hard to say first. When I started watching wrestling I really liked Sting and Lex Luger so I was always against the four horsemen and what they did to my favorites.

What probably drew the most passion for actually hating someone was either when Earthquack sat on Jake Roberts snake, or when Undertaker locked the Ultimate Warrior in his coffin and all the "officials" were having a hard time breaking him out of there before he ran out of air. So my first is either Undertaker or the members of the four horsemen. I was more just mad at Earthquake.

Now I cheer on the bad guys, especially at live shows. Eddie Guerrero was a fantastic bad guy I loved to hate.

HULK HOGAN. Iv ebeen into wrestling since the start of Hulkamania and have hated him ever since then. Face or heel ive never liked him. The main reason , he has been having the same match for most of his career. He comes in on fire, then gets beat up for a majority of the match , then hulks up and does his finisher and wins. You can still see these matches too, just watch a John Cena match.
Also I hate the miz. he reminds of all the jock assholes i went to high school with who continued to act like that even after they got out of school

There probably were wrestlers I really disliked before him, but the first wrestler I truly HATED was probably Bret Hart. Diesel was my original favorite wrestler. When Bret beat him for the WWF Championship at Survivor Series 95, I pretty much turned on Bret for the rest of his WWF career. Strangely enough I was only starting to warm up to him again right before the Survivor Series in 1997. The irony was that almost every aspect of the character was someone that would have appealed to me back then, but things didn't work out that way, which was a little unfortunate for me because he was obviously THE star for a while.

I started watching in '99 and COULD NOT stand Jericho. And then he entered that awesome feud with Benoit who was my fave at the time. I think it was because back then I couldn't stand The Jeritron's arrogance which I have come to relise was awesome and I preferred Benoit's straight laced-err-ness

Perfect, Dibiase & Rude.

Hated the lot of them - they're now amongst my favourites. Absolutely incredible heels and there's no-one around now that can hold a candle to any of them.

JBL. I disliked various wrestlers up until then, but JBL was the first I hated. I hated him on my tv screen every week, I hated his lack of talent, I hated his stupid catchphrases. In fact, I hated him so much I stopped watching smackdown at all.

It would be narrowed down to 3 or 4.
Macho King Randy Savage, Andre the Giant, Sgt. Slaughter or Rick Rude. The first three for their feuds with Hulkamania and Rude for his with Jake and Warrior.

I only started wrestling in 2000 so I hated Kurt Angle - just thought he was a nerd who couldn't win any matches by himself. It didn't take me long to change my mind though - his promos with Foley and Edge and Christian were too funny and by 2002 he was my favourite. Other than that couldn't stand the Big Show for a long time. Just found him incredibly boring; I remember at a live show in 2003 screaming that he sucked (as well as other things!) and he gave me the deadliest stare I've ever seen. Pretty darn impressive.

Wow. So many smark comments. How original.

You're supposed to hate them for their heel actions, not because of stuff you read on the internet and then regurgitate to look cool to your friends. For fucks sake, stop ruining wrestling for yourself and others.

The first wrestler I hated was probably Macho Man Randy Savage after he turne on Hogan at SNME over Liz. I hated for the longest time when he became the Macho King. I was born in the early 80s so I grew up a hulkamaniac and I liked Savage when he was with the Mega Powers. After watching the WWE Randy Savage DVD, I have learned to appreciate on what a great heel combo he and Sherri were. Savage belongs in the Hall. If Vince and Bret could get back together, why not Randy and Vince?

I started watching WCW at the age of 9 in 1996 and it was really easy to pick a guy I loved to hate in the face of Ric Flair. He was (and still is) just so good at this, so natural. Everybody was no selling his shots, he was always hiding behind stronger partners (first time I saw him was when he teamed with the Giant vs. Sting & Luger) and always cheap-shotting his way to victory which annoyed me as hell. I FUCKING hated him!

I started watching wrestling as a college student, who studied theatre. The bad guys were more entertaining.

But as a young lad, flipping channels I happened upon the Wild Samoans beating some poor man half to death and it scared me badly for months. So my answer is Afa and Sika.

Easily the Million Dollar Man, Ted DiBiase. I hated him, I hated IRS, I hated Virgil, I hated Money, Inc, I hated everyone he had in his corner.

Now of course I appreciate what a fantastic Heel he was, but I just loathed him and everyone associated with him.

The Million Dollar Man, Ted DiBiase. He and Andre the Giant were just starting their fued with Hulk Hogan and Macho Man Randy Savage when I started watching wrestling as a kid. I hated DiBiase back then, although as someone already said, I now look back and respect his work as one of the best heels in the business.

Triple H. The guy just made me hate him the second I started watching, just doing what he did.

Ric Flair. I remember watching NWA/WCW in 89 at my grandma's house. I was 5 years old, and Hulk Hogan was everything to me. My grandma liked Flair. With his frilly pink robes and bleach blonde hair, I never understood why Sting and Luger could never seem to wrestle the title away from him.

He only increased my hatred when he moved to the WWF, won the Royal Rumble, and claimed that Miss Elizabeth was his before he was Macho Man's. I remember going to play for my rec league basketball team the night I got the WWE magazine making the claim with the photos, and saying this one is for you Mach. Unfortunately I suck at basketball and I didn't score any points.

I was blessed to get to see Flair wrestle Shawn at WrestleMania 24. What a performer.

As far as guys I shoot don't like, I have really hated X-Pac and Hardcore Holly for having no value whatsover but being shoved down our throats for as long as possible, Matt Hardy and Bret Hart for being whiny bitchy cry babies (and Bret for beating Flair for the belt, meaning Macho wouldn't get his rematch), and Triple H and Batista for just lacking as human beings.

I love how if someone mentions certain wrestlers (Hogan for instance) it's automaticaly assumed by some that it's "smark" hate. It couldn't possibly be because some people didn't buy into Hulk-a-mania, some of us were older than five and liked more dynamic characters (Macho Man, Ted Dibase, etc.) or, gasp, even as kids, some of us liked the ring work. I know that must blow some people's mind, but it is possible to like workrate without being a smark.

When my son was six, he loved watching Eddie Guerrerro because he did a lot of cool moves. He kinda liked Cena, but he liked people like Angle, and Benoit because they did more than just punch and kick like 80% of the roster.

All that said, I hated Hogan as a kid for two reasons: he bored me (which is the ultimate sin in entertainment) and the fucker cheated like a mad man for someone that always told me to play fair. Plus I hated his leg drop. Hated it with a passion. You had people like Orndoff doing piledrivers, Macho descending from the top rope with an elbow that can crush your throat, The Million Dollar Dream, The Scorpion Deathlock (always was more an NWA/WCW mark), Sling shot suplexes, and this guy is beating people with a leg drop that I remember someone saying "my grandmother gets more height than that."

Dusty Rhodes and Dick Murdoch were the first wrestlers I truly hated. I was five and they were cowboys so I thought they would be cool. As they came to the ring, I asked if I could hold their tag title belts. Rhodes started to hand me his belt then jerked it back and said, "Runt, you ain't worthy of holding the muck from my boots."

Mine was easily Flair, although Hogan got me into wrestling I never really hated any WWE guys because even as a kid, it just seemed more of a cartoon than and had no realism. Then I turned on NWA Worldwide one saturday morning and was hooked on what seemed like a real athletic contest. Flair and the Horsemen were easily the ones I hated most. Also, I find it comical for someone to call JBL's clotheseline from hell a lame finisher. He may be an asshole in reality or boring (at first, his JBL era promos really made you hate the guy..he is good on the mic )but that finisher looks like it would literally kill you. End of story. You want a lame finisher see Hogan Legdrop

"Work-style": Macho "King" Randy Savage, he was such an amazing villain when he put on the crown. Couldn't stand him as a kid.

"Shoot-style": Super Cena, can't stand this guy and his massive push. He's just not entertaining and he's wasting time when anyone else could be on the screen.

The first wrestler I ever hated was Hulk Hogan. It was completely unbelievable that he could get beaten down for ten minutes, then hulk up, throw three punches followed by a body slam if you're fat or a big boot if you're not and a leg drop for the pin. Were his opponents that week? Even Andre. I always hated Hogan but I simply felt he was complete shit after Wrestlemania 3.

Now the first wrestler(s) I ever feared as a fan was the New Zealand Sheepherders. They were vicious. Some know them better as the neutered Bushwackers. But man, back here in Tulsa in Mid-South/UWF, they were vicious.

I have hated, and I mean HATED Hulk Hogan since "Hulkamania" Days. When I was a teen and saw Hogan "retire" Flair at Halloween Havoc 1994, I think I was clinically depressed for a week after that. When I think back to that now, I laugh, but it wasn't funny for a 16 year old back in the day.

this is completely from a mark perspective. i started watching wrestling in 6th ot 7th grade when stone cold was breaking onto the scene. I was a huge mark as a kid, i knew it wasn't real but damnit i watched it like it was. therefore it should be pretty obvious that the first person i ever hated in wrestling was none other than Bret Hart. The first wrestler I ever hated was Hulk Hogan. I have always been a HUGE Randy Savage fan, so that night the Mega Powers took on the Twin Towers (Akeem & Big Bossman), I was excited. Then it happened. Savage was thrown into Elizabeth on the outside. Hogan checks on Liz and then picks her up and takes her to the back, leaving Savage to get his ass kicked. Hogan comes back when Savage has damn near won the match singlehandly, and wants a tag to take all the credit and glory. Savage gets pissed, slaps him, takes his title and leaves. And the annoncers(Vince McMahon) just excused Hogan basiclly saying "Hogan was right for not waiting for the EMT's and taking her to the back himself, leaving the World Champ to get has ass kicked for 10 minutes and Savage had absolutly no reason to be mad."

I've hated Hogan ever since and it all came back once I bought the SNME set came out. If any of you have the Saturday Nights Main Event DVD's, check it out.

I've been watching since 1989, and there may have been a few wrestlers I've disliked, but it wasn't until 2002 that I started hating a wrestler - Triple H.
I thought the guy was an outstanding performer in 2000-2001, four-five star matches month after month with Rock, Benoit, Angle, Jericho, Austin, Undertaker.
But post the first quad tear he became a cancer for the company. He abused his position in the company to severely lessen other people's careers. He ruined Jericho, he ruined RVD, he ruined Kane, he did nothing to help Booker T, Goldberg or Scott Steiner. And it's gone on year after year right up to today when he has ruined Randy Orton yet again. I truly detest Triple H for the hole he has dug the company into in the last seven years.

The first wrestler I hated was Randy Savage after he broke Ricky Steamboat's windpipe and almost killed him.

The first wrestler I disliked after I figured things out was X-Pac. His initial gimmick was fine - the undersized underdog. But then he became this greasy little troll who just happened to hang around with the right guys and was rewarded not for his in-ring performance, but for this friendship.

The first wrestler I hated was also my favorite wrestler, by my standards, at the time. Owen Hart! His program with Bret in 1994 was going on just as I was getting into wrestling, and I was captivated by it. I hated Owen, because he was a great heel, but looking back, he was also the guy I was most interested in watching. I mean, the first pay-per-view I ever watched live was King of the Ring '94, of which he was the focal point! He just brought out the strongest reaction in my little 9-year-old fandom. Just a year later, however, when he won the tag straps with Yokozuna at WM XI, I swerved and began cheering for both of them. Owen's conniving trickery had won me over!

Also, I hated Alex Wright from the moment I laid eyes on him. And he NEVER won me over.

Ric Freaking Flair. I remember in the summer of 1987, all I wanted someone to do was just to kick his everlovin' ass. Someone, ANYONE. I was over the moon when Ronnie Garvin finally did later that fall - only to lose again the following month to Flair. Oh well.

Jerry "The King" Lawler. I got into watching wrestling in a big way around 1993, when Lawler took up his personal vendetta against the Hart family. It was the first time I watched often enough to identify who were the good guys and who were the bad guys, and at the time no one was sleazier than The Burger King. (How did that corny chant get started, anyways? I vaguely remember it being Bret's idea, at least on screen...)

This was hard because while I booed guys, I couldn't remember who I truly hated. After reading the other comments, I finally remember.

Ted Dibiase - he truly believed everybody had a price for the Million Dollar Man. I was a mark kid at the time and loved the feud with Tatanka accusing Luger of selling out. I was heartbroken when it was the Tatanka who sold out.

#2 would be Jake Roberts. Savage is my all time favorite so when he had him tied in the ropes and bitten by the snake, I was DEVASTATED. One of my favorite memories ever was of Savage/Roberts on Sat. Night's ME with Savage trying to repeatedly hit the elbow drop amidst a sea of officials. Loved it!

Not all of us were total marks when we were kids. I wasn't stupid, I could see it wasn't 100% real.

Having said that I admit that I WAS a Hulkamaniac, but I also loved Dibiase and Macho Man.

I HATED The Ultimate Warrior. To me, he was a pretender to the throne and totally retarded. I couldn't have been happier when the Macho King cost Warrior the WWF Title against Slaughter.

For like 1.5 to 2 years they made Warrior the Face of the WWF and they slapped his picture on the cover of EVERYTHING and it made me sick!

The Original Sheik.........my first mark-out moment. When he feuded with Mark Lewin, Lewin got him in the sleeper and put him out. Then left him laying in the ring 'till the Sheik's manager came in the ring and sign a championship match contract. I remember thinking "LEAVE HIM LAYING!"....then there were the Pampero Firpo matches, Firpo kept dousing him with buckets of water so he couldn't throw fireballs...

Two in particular (From a "mark" point of view":

#1 Savage Vs. Steamboat. Perfect match of a bastard who didn't need to, but still WOULD cheat, was a dick to Elisabeth and had the gall to be able to back up everything he said! THAT was a feud!

#2 Local International Wrestling promotion in the early '80 here in Montreal. Rougeaus Vs. Garvins. Had everything including people throwing chairs into the ring (pre-ECW!) and the Police having to prevent a legit riot at the Paul Sauve arena. As the Garvins were obviously going to leave the territory, there was a loser leaves town match won by the Rougeaus. FANTASTIC blow off where the A-holes FINALLY got their just desserts. Garvins' played the heals to PERFECTION!

Pure entertainment/suspension of disbelief. 10/10.

When I was a kid and Hogan got beat down by Tugboat, Big Bossman, or Earhquake, I didn't like it at all. But I knew Hogan would win in the end and every punch, stomp, kick, splash would be added up and repaid in kind and Hogan would win and the heel would get his just desserts, or just deserves, or just served desserts, or receipt, or however you say it. I wanted the heroes to get his revenge and win the inevitable match-up, but I don't really remember hating any of the bad guys. I knew they would get their ass kicked and they'd fall by the wayside along with the rest.

I am a reaaaaaqal Americaaaan. Fight for what's right. Fight for what's right.

The first wrestler I hated was Rowdy Roddy Piper. I don't care what anyone else said or says...he was not getting the belt because it would have been a piss poor run of the mill heel run. and why take the strap off of Hogan if you don't think you can buld someone up to be a credible champ? Then he was good douring his IC title time with Bret and Goldust but really I didn't like him AT ALL after that. He was not a good worker and he cut the same promo for years.

i have to say i do not believe that so many people hated hulk hogan during his hero phase. for some reason i feel like a lot of those posts are sorta the smarky, stylish thing to say.
that being said i was 5 years old when wm 1 came out, it was the first big card i had ever seen and had been watching wwf for maybe a year prior to that. at that time roddy piper was someone i wanted to see die
actually die
along with king kong bundy, macho man and jake the snake.
of course i grew to love piper, macho man and jake recognizing their genius at an early age.
i also have a distinct memory of hearing that adrian adonis died in some kind of accident and telling my dad GOOD iam glad
and him having to explain to me that that was not very nice and he was probably a very good person in real life. but thats the kind of emotion they brought out of me.
at that time these heels were the worst people on the planet to me.
unfortuneatly i lived in vancouver canada and never saw nwa or awa
but the first nwa ppv i saw i remember hating vader. it was during that great vader sting strap match where they were strapped together and had to touch the four posts for victory.

Big Bossman (RIP)

I started watching WCW, but didn't really 'hate' anyone, I just thought it was very entertaining. Then I hired some old WWF PPVs.

It was Big Bossman vs. The Big Show... and I saw what he did to his dad's casket at his funeral and all that during the tape. While in hindsight this seems like a very ridiculous thing to achieve nowadays, I legitimately hated Bossman and wanted to see Show rip him apart. Ah, to be an innocent kid again.

The most I've ever hated any one character has to be referee Teddy Long, when he cost the Road Warriors the Tag Titles by refusing to count a pinfall, pretending that his back was hurting from a bump.

Miraculously though, he jumped into position and quickly counted 3 after a cheap shot from a Doom member to Animal, giving Doom the titles!

Of course, he went on to manage Doom, and the two teams had a great feud, but to this day I still remember having nothing but SEETHING HATRED for the man. I was about 8 years old and was calling for his firing!

Yokozuna. Not only was he a despicable heel, he was a godawful wrestler. I could't even enjoy seeing him lose because I had to sit through a match to wait for that moment.

"Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff. I remember being pissed off when he turned on Hulk Hogan after a tag match with "Big" John Studd and King Kong Bundy. That incident made me a life long wrestling fan though. After my family got cable I despised Dusty Rhodes. I've always hated the "Common Man" gimmick and his accent and physical appearance were embarrassing, to say the least. Ironically, he turned me into a life long Ric Flair fan.

The first time I ever saw WWF wrestling was Earthquake jumping Hogan and sitting on his chest (was it Brother Loves show?) As a kid, I had never seen anything like it before and was immediately taken in and loathed Earthquake. I remember being such a gullible mark I even drew a picture and get well card and sent them to Hogan!

Only now do I realise what a fucking con Hulkamania was, as it covered up the fact that Vince McMahon had created a marketable freakshow in Hogan, who despite the biggest push in the world couldn't actually wrestle.

Sadly, very sadly, history is repeating itself in the form of John Cena. I caught my six year old son making Cena a get well card after he got thrown through a spotlight.

Being a good father and wanting to prevent the same cycle repeating itself with my future Grandchildren, I sat my six year old son down and in a very Larry David way explained that the WWE is, was and always will be fake.

He'll thank me for it in later life. Besides, at least when Hogan got jumped in the build up to every PPV against a heel, he had the good grace to stay "injured" until the week of the PPV.

I started watching full-time in 1999, but I had been watching just enough to get by for several years. I disliked Triple-H at first. He seemed pretty evil, but he was a good performer and had an outstanding feud with The Rock. I also liked him in DX, he was entertainng and it was hard to tell if he would win his matches or not. When he came back from his quad injury though, he royally pissed me off. He pretty much held the title on Raw for the better part of two years. He buried everybody who faced him. RVD, Kane, Booker T, Steiner. Goldberg won the title from him, but he was eventually buried as well. Hell, if I remember correctly, D'Lo Brown had a blind-fold match against HHH on an episode of Raw, and he was buried as well, which I believed it to be impossible for D'Lo to be buried even more. Once I found out that he had married Stephanie for real, and this was without any help from the internet, I knew he had only hung onto to the title for so long because he was hanging from Vince's balls the entire time. I haven't liked him at all since then besides his second run with DX. I liked him in DX initially, so I said what the hell. After that though, he's gone back to annoying me whether he was a heel or face.

Lex Luger, circa 1997. His matches were horrible. I hated the look on his face that seemed to say he was all that and a bag of chips, and how his matches consisted of him getting his ass whipped for 2-10 minutes before pulling out a win. I know other faces use the same formula but when I saw it during a Luger match I wanted to go down to the arena personally and whack him with a chair a few times.

The Right to Censor. I was six at the time so bare with me. I could not stand the RTC, what with their white shirts and black ties and all around boring look. Trying to get rid of the things I found most appealing to wrestling when I started watching. Remember when the Dudleyz beat up the Hardyz on RAW and then on SmackDown they came out in the RTC outfit? I cried my eyes out that my favourite tag team (at the time) had betrayed me.

Then they put Steven Richards through a table, and all was right in the world.

Also, the Alliance. I fucking hated the Alliance. Shane and Stephanie leading a huge group to get rid of my new found love in the WWF? Ugh. And when Austin turned I was in shock because he was my favourite wrestler regardless whether he was a face or heel. Same thing with WrestleMania X-Seven. When Angle turned I thought to myself "That's it, the WWF is screwed now." Then they won at Survivor Series :D In fact I think the only people I liked out of the Alliance were Billy Kidman and Rob Van Dam, because the fans cheered them and booed the others, causing me to think that they didn't care who won the Invasion. So I'm a sheep, sue me.

Oh, and to that guy who told his six year old son that wrestling is fake, how low are you? You've basically taken the fun out of this kid's life when it comes to watching wrestling. At least when I found out that wrestling was scripted I was like nine or ten. Let him have his fun. Don't spoil it for him. It's like going up to some random five year old and telling him Santa isn't real.

Shawn Michaels. I was always a Bret Hart kid. I disliked Michaels when he was with the Rockers, and when he threw Jannetty through the plate glass window it grew to hate. But I really hated him when all the other kids liked him, and nobody but me liked the Hitman anymore. Then Austin came around and it got worse. Other kids hated Bret, but I stayed loyal. He was always my favorite, and when the Montreal Screwjob happened...well the hate grew more! I was one angry ten year old boy! Michaels made me hate him for sure.

Looking back on it now I find it quite silly, but the first wrestler I ever hated was Sgt.Slaughter. Earthquake was a close second, but I bought that Iraqi sympathizer angle which made the Hulk Hogan WM7 match more important than any battle in the Gulf War in my third grade eyes. I still have a soft spot for that match because I remember going nuts when Slaughter tried to pin Hulk with the Iraqi flag draped over him. The site of a bloody Hulkster tearing up that flag still sends chills up my spine.

Maybe it's just because I was always an evil little bitch, but I always liked the baddies -- even when I was a kid. And yes, I'm aware of the wrestling terms "faces" and "heels", but back then... well... they were the baddies. Used to get on my dad's nerves cause he'd be a huge mark for the faces, and I'd be all "yeah, I like THAT guy!" much to his ire.

Still goes on to this day, though I'm far more open to liking anybody based on ability.

At any rate, the first wrestler I hated was Hulk Hogan -- and he was the one person my dad and I could agree on.

I have NEVER liked Hulk Hogan. He was annoying. His "hulking" up, the predictablity of all his matches. At a time when you had guys like Bret Hart, Dynamite Kid, Randy Savage, Steamboat, Flair & a whole host of others to have to see the same match of Hogan's every time was a bit boring. Others I couldn't stand are Sid & Honky tonk Man. How he ever got over let alone win a title is beyond me.
