More On The Passing of Mitsuharu Misawa

June 13, 2009 | Posted by Ashish

As reported earlier, Mitsuharu Misawa was declared dead this morning at a hospital in Hiroshima. He apparently had a heart attack after being suplexed in a tag team match where he teamed with Go Shiozaki against Bison Smith and Akitoshi Saito for the GHC tag team belts.

Misawa would have turned 47 on June 18th.

The suplex given to Misawa was described as a standard suplex. He did not get up after the move. They immediately started trying to revive him via CPR and AED while the crowd went from silence to a “Misawa” chant. The entire roster from the back was ringside while all this went on. He was then rushed to the hospital. He may have actually passed away in the ring and not in the hospital.

He is considered one of the greatest wrestlers ever and was also one of the founders of Pro Wrestling NOAH.
