WWE Statement On Misawa's Passing
Posted by Ashish on 06.14.2009

- WWE issued this statement today on Mitsuharu Misawa's passing.
"On behalf of WWE, we were deeply saddened to hear of the tragic loss of Mitsuharu Misawa. We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends and fans. Misawa will be remembered as one of the all-time greats in Japan," said John Laurinaitis, WWE Executive Vice President of Talent Relations.

Probably a tough time for Johnny Ace, as he and Misawa had some incredible matches back in the day.

For all the crap that Johnny Ace gets these days this has to be hard for him...

I half expected them to work "future endeavors" in there. Somehow.

I've never seen any of Misawa's matches but he sounded like a hell of a competitor and a great guy, RIP

They can't even tell the legally retarded "WWE Universe" that visits WWE.com WHO Misawa is or WHAT he did for a living.

That's very classy, coming from WWE. I didn't think they would even take notice from Misawa's death.

Good to see the WWE jump on the bandwagon after every other company and individual had already sent their condolences to the Misawa family. Stay classy WWE! This is why you are the most powerful (and boring) wrestling company in the world.

on behalf of the wwe, he never worked for us... So why should we give a good goddamn? We wish him well on all of his future endeavors, like his future match with the soon departing jimmy snuka.

well at least they shut me up...i'm actually happy they did for once.

I imagine this has hit Johnny Ace pretty hard. Fair play to WWE on releasing a statement, I didn't expect them to, and to be fair, they didn't really have to, so fair play to them.

I will note that they said "Japan" and not "the world".

Misawa was awesome saw him via a friends vhs tape. He was a great wrestler.

Shit on them if you must, but at least they said something. I'm surprised.

"I will note that they said "Japan" and not "the world"."

Why would they? He wrestled 99.99% of his career in Japan. There for he is a legend IN JAPAN.

LOL... The WWE just cant win with you guys.. Damned if the do, damned if they dont.

Yeah...you do realize that they ARE the most powerful wrestling organization in the world, right? They didn't HAVE to say anything. But they did, so it is really a classy move. Go kiss Cary Silkskin (or whoever the fuck is in charge of that failure RoH group) right on his ass.

WWE ARE CAPITALIZING ON MISAWA'S DEATH! How dare they! Capitalization is what this is. Bastards!

"Good to see the WWE jump on the bandwagon after every other company and individual had already sent their condolences to the Misawa family."

Jesus christ, the news of his passing didn't come through until what, Saturday morning? What the fuck did you you want them to do? Devote the entire website to the guy later that day?

Epic fail.

Misawa was never once on WWF/E television and never once wrestled for them. They had no reason to do that, and yet still did anyways. That's classy.

And how exactly are they capitalizing on his death? Hardly anyone WWE fan really knows who Misawa is. If anything, it makes Misawa known to more people. Not that it affects him, but WWE is in no way profiting from this so I really have no idea how you came to that conclusion.

The fact that WWE even mentioned him kind've shows how big even they knew he was to wrestling in Japan. Misawa WAS puro in the 90s.

"Misawa WAS puro in the 90s."

He WAS AJPW, but you could argue that the top NJPW guys were actually bigger stars.

"I will note that they said "Japan" and not "the world".

wwe is right, he wasn't famous all over the world like austin and hogan, he was a legend only in japan.

I have only seen about 5 of his matches, but from those i can see he was an awesome wrestler, i would like to see more.

R.I.P Misawa.

For you super smart fans here that say Misawa never wrestled for WWE, you do know you are wrong dont you?

1990 - WWF/AJPW Show: Tiger Mask (Mitsuharu Misawa) wrestled Bret Hart to a 20-minute time limit draw!

Bret even talks about it in his book. Of course he complained that Misawa wasnt as good as the first Tiger Mask, so he didnt like him.

But then again old A.G. Awesome doesnt know nearly as much as you SMART fans like roscoes chicken&waffles.

Bang Bang

Japan is probably just outside the WWE Universe. They are vaguely aware of what occurs outside their continuim.

Posted By: Flyin' Bryan (Guest)  on June 15, 2009 at 08:55 AM

Guest 0299, JD was being ironic....I'd think the all capitals would have given it away.
I guess the WWE really is in the "damned if you do, damned if you don't" category now. Guess it's too much to ask for certain commenter's to get a grip on themselves and grow the fuck up.

Posted By: dennett316 (Guest)  on June 15, 2009 at 09:26 AM

I get why they had Johnny the Ax give the statement, but it almost looks self-indulging, like he forced them to put something up...otherwise, he wouldn't have quoted himself...quote some of the guys who are familiar with Misawa's work.

Still, they didn't even have to say anything, and I was perfectly fine if they didn't, but they did, and that's awesome.

Some of you are complete and utter morons, seriously. Grow up and stop thinking you're 'cool'. The WWE just came out and gave their best wishes to his family, what did you want them to do, claim him as the greatest of all time and send his family ten million dollars or something?

Stop being pathetic and learn this was a tragic death and not a time for any of you to come out and try to put down the WWE as always, just because you nitpick at anything like little immature children. Seriously, what a bunch of idiots.

Am I the only one who read this as:

"Our condolances. John Laurinaitis says he was good"

-WWE
