These are very good "mark out" matches and after disc 2 is when the BS began WCWs' downfall and the Russo-nomics began to help the downfall.
Posted By: guest1228 (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 04:56 PM
sounds like a pretty good set.
Posted By: hum (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 04:57 PM
Wow, Benoit was never in WCW either, huh?
Posted By: Lansdellicious (Registered) on July 02, 2009 at 05:01 PM
This looks awesome.
Posted By: JDW (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:03 PM
Be interesting to see if WWE actually admits that they copied alot of Nitro's ideas and show format for RAW, or if Vince just 're-writes' history again to suit his own idea of what happened.
Posted By: kliq316 (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:03 PM
Lost in Cleveland FTW!!!!!!!!!!
Posted By: Muta Mark (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:04 PM
no beniot vs sid?
no beiot anywhere?
jeez u think that the wwe had something against the guy or something...i mean the only thing he did was kill his whole....oh ok i understand now.
Posted By: trae316 (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:05 PM
wow, ONE match from the last two and a half years of WCW...
Posted By: KanyonKreist (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:06 PM
Looks decent, but I'm surprised no Hogan/ Goldberg title match from Nitro. I remember that being one of the biggest "mark out" moments of my time watching wrestling, up there with Y2J's debut on RAW.
Posted By: massdestraction (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:07 PM
Looks good! Too bad it doesn't include the first War Games match.
Posted By: Chris (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:10 PM
* WCW World Tag Team Championship Match: The Steiner Brothers vs. Sting & Lex Luger
SuperBrawl May 19, 1991
* WCW World Heavyweight Championship Match: Sting vs. Big Van Vader
Great American Bash July 12, 1992
*****
I'm sold.

Wow, I'm really liking the match listings. I knoow a lot of people declined to be apart of this DVD project but if its half as good as the ECW one this DVD will rule.
Posted By: theBZa (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:13 PM
this DVD is going to kick ass..cant wait to watch it
Posted By: jay (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:14 PM
Once again, if there is no mention of Benoit, this is an auto-fail. Yes, yes, he murdered his wife and child. We're not paying tribute to the man, though, we're talking about his place in history, and he had a rather significant place in the WCW / WWE war when he, Saturn, Guerrero and Malenko left the company.
Also, they don't include the match where Hogan was the mystery partner for Hall & Nash, revealing that he was the 3rd member of the NWO? EPIC FAIL!
Posted By: Scott B (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:15 PM
Those are some nice match choices... especially glad to see Sting/Luger vs. the Steiners on there.
Posted By: Jason (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:17 PM
I believe Foley specifically asked in "Have a Nice Day!" that all copies of "Lost in Cleveland" be burned.
Great to see some cruiserweight matches that haven't already been featured on various WWE discs.
Posted By: neverAcquiesce (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:24 PM
i didn't by this dvd when it was called TNA: Year One, i'm certainly not buying it now.
Posted By: Ric Switzer (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:34 PM
i'll buy it
Posted By: me (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:35 PM
Based on the matches alone (Except the DDP/Malone vs Hogan/Rodman match), this looks like a winner to me.
Posted By: Guest#9181 (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:35 PM
those matches aren't memorable. No Sting vs Hulk Hogan at Starrcade for example. No Sting vs Ric Flair at last episode of Nitro. There's a shitload of matches that deserved to be there.
Posted By: Cesarmania (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:36 PM
Where's Sting vs Hulk Hogan at Starrcade 1997?
Posted By: Hageroon (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:37 PM
WTF? Where's when David Arquette won the WCW belt
Posted By: Vince Russo (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:37 PM
Think they'll have a special wcw reunion show to promote it like they did with ecw? Would they book the omni? Get big show vs lex Luger to main event? Possibilites are endless
Posted By: condrab (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:38 PM
There's no Sting vs Hulk Hogan at Starrcade 1997! FUCK WWE
Posted By: Hunglikeahorse (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:38 PM
So why in the HELL isn't the Eddie-Rey Title vs. Mask match from Halloween Havoc 1997 on these discs, but Rodman and Malone are?
Posted By: Kenny (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:41 PM
This looks like shit.
Posted By: Curry Fan (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:45 PM
looking forward to this dvd set
disc 2 looks to be filled mostly with awesome nwa era matches, and disc 3 features a lot of cruiserweight goodness and probably one of Goldberg's best matches in his entire career
would have liked it if they had put the actual bash 1996 match where the infamous Hogan turn happened on here, but i guess they decided not to include it since they are already going to use several clips from it during the documentary.
Posted By: Guest#7422 (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:47 PM
I can't wait for this set to come out all these matches sound great. Not that many repeats. Sounds like dvd!
Posted By: mattz (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:49 PM
No David Arette winning world title? No Judy Bagwell on a pole? They better be discussed becuase these reasons (and more) are why WCW went under
Posted By: Guest#3686 (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:51 PM
I'm not one to yell "how could they have left out the (blank) match?!?!?!" but I'll say this:
Out of all of the NWA/WCW R&R Express vs. Midnight Express matches in the WWE tape library, they decided to pick the one from Wrestle War '90.
Wow.
Posted By: Jake (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:57 PM
What no Shockmaster? This thing's a bust.
Posted By: BMJ (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 06:02 PM
* WCW World Heavyweight Championship Match: Booker T vs. Lance Storm
Nitro August 7, 2000
How random. Good match I guess, but a surprising addition
Posted By: Robin (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 06:06 PM
No Russo-nomics to be found here. Only one match from his "era" and it's a good one.
They should do a whole set based on his blunders.
Posted By: WetOREO (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 06:07 PM
The match listing for Disc 2 is SO SICK!!! Wow, Horseman, R N' R Express, Midnights....
Posted By: The Original Guest (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 06:10 PM
um, i think there is only 1 russo era match on the whole set
Posted By: tazz (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 06:12 PM
of course there will be galring ommissions.
-luger started the monday night wars
-BENOIT, saturn, guerrero, and malenko's defection
-booker t vs benoit best of 7
-the ecw influence (shane douglas, sandman, mike awesome)
-sting, sting and STING!
Posted By: rey (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 06:14 PM
Benoit is a disgrace he killed his wife and son sick bastard how could you kill a little kid
Posted By: wrestlingfan (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 06:32 PM
The last of the bonuses was a must to include.
Posted By: The evil genius (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 06:36 PM
"wow, ONE match from the last two and a half years of WCW..."
Can you really think of a whole lot from 1999 on that warranted inclusion?
Posted By: neverAcquiesce (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 06:45 PM
tna will get so much exposure out of this dvd
Posted By: hulkamania is alive (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 06:46 PM
Anyone upset about some matches not appearing on the disc, remember that they've probably been released at least once before on another DVD, such as the Booker T/Steiner World/U.S. Title match on the last Nitro. No use turning every WCW match from 1999-2001 into the Foley/HBK "Mindgames" match that's on at least 15 DVDs...
Posted By: Big Money B.G. (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 06:48 PM
Sounds decent, but for someone who grew up in the Carolinas and watched WCW religiously, I feel kind of underwhelmed. They've got some good older stuff (NWA-era), but I'm not 100% sold on the match selection. The documentary should be interesting to hear though--wonder how (un)biased it will be.
Posted By: mr_carpenter1982 (Registered) on July 02, 2009 at 06:51 PM
I am going to buy this. But I'm afraid of the McMahon 'o Burial that will take place during the documentary part....
Posted By: DHX (Registered) on July 02, 2009 at 06:56 PM
Wow, so they're eliminating Benoit from WCW's history too?! That sucks, I would've liked to see his feud with Booker T included, as well as his matches with Bret Hart.
Posted By: AdamRock (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 06:58 PM
They need to do a collection with just War Games. Far and away the best gimmick match of all time.
Posted By: Guest#0851 (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 06:58 PM
Nice to see Goldberg/DDP (one of Bills only good matches) on there and some War Games action.
Still, it needs more from 96-98, when wrestling was HUGE. I loved the Flock and the Raven/DDP feud back then.
Posted By: Guest#2100 (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 07:01 PM
"So why in the HELL isn't the Eddie-Rey Title vs. Mask match from Halloween Havoc 1997 on these discs, but Rodman and Malone are?"
Because that's been on two sets already.
Posted By: Guest#7181 (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 07:11 PM
Hogan-Goldberg - Monday Night War Dvd
Guerreo-Mysterio - on the Rey Dvd AND Eddie dvd (I think)
Sting-Hogan - Starccade dvd.
Benoit-murderer deal with it.If you want some of his matches get his career dvd off ebay
Overall though this should make good watching
Posted By: Guest#5279 (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 07:21 PM
F@#%$! AWESOME!!! I'm all over this...
Posted By: Dr J (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 07:33 PM
For those whining and crying because Sting vs Hogan is not on this DVD, get the Starrcade collection. You will see that match on there. For the Rey vs Eddie match from Halloween Havoc, look for Cheating Death and Stealing Life: The Eddie Guerrero Story. For the Hogan vs Goldberg match, look for The Monday Night Wars DVD. You want Bret Hart vs Benoit? Find the Bret Hart DVD.
Posted By: Guest#9584 (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 07:40 PM
Not bad on paper. At least they're making an effort to include matches that haven't been released on DVD before. I certainly didn't need to see Hogan v. Sting from Starrcade 97 again (although I'm sure it will be discussed in the documentary--extra points if they mention the ultra screwjob in the form of the bogus fast 3 count).
I would have liked to have seen a few more matches from the downtime and Sting/Flair at the last show would have been a great inclusion.
The only match on there that didn't need to be was the Hogan & Rodman v. Malone & DDP. The only way that must be on there is to show just how bad WCW had gotten in 98, as that was by far and away the worst use of celebrities in wrestling. Rodman was clearly high. Hogan was his usual shit self. At least DDP and Malone tried to make an effort. But the match seemed to go on forever.
Posted By: Michael L (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 07:40 PM
of course mcmahon will erase benoit. that bastard cost the wwe millions in bad publicity plus HE is the main reason cw dumped smackdown.
sd was cw's top rated show and they got dumped because management did not want to be associated with drug using pro wrestlers who kill their families.
Posted By: Guest#5097 (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 07:53 PM
NO clash of the champions matches...some of the great matches were scattered through all of those!!!
Posted By: worm (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 08:15 PM
This set is worth it just for the Midnight Express VS Southern Boys tag match from Bash 89! One of the greatest tag matches ever!
Posted By: BOB (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 08:52 PM
The Midnights vs. The Southern Boys from Bash 90 is one of the greatest tag team matches I have ever seen. I'm glad it's finally seeing the light of day

Was anyone really expecting to see the Jarrett vs Benoit ladder match?
Posted By: Trashy (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 09:15 PM
Soulnds like it's going to be a good set but I really wish they would release whole PPVs on DVD.

Go buy the god damn Benoit DVD if you wanna see him so bad in WCW. For fuck sakes you all sound like 10 year old pussies crying over a fake fuckin sport...Grow up IWC.
Posted By: Guest#2244 (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 10:40 PM
How do you have a DVD set about the death of WCW that doesn't include the Hogan vs Nash Fingerpoke of Doom match?
Posted By: Captain Admiral Navyboat (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 11:39 PM
I understand why Benoit was left off the DVD. To build interest in ........
The Self Destruction of Ultimate Crippler coming in winter 2009
Posted By: UcantCLA (Registered) on July 02, 2009 at 11:50 PM
WAY too much emphasis on pre-nWo matches, and hardly anything from the Monday Night Wars. ONE match from 1999-2000-2001? Not even Flair/Sting from the last Nitro?
No thanks. I think I'm good with MNW episodes on Classics on Demand.
Posted By: Steve307 (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 12:20 AM
Also, no Benoit vs. Bret Hart tribute to Owen match.
And to all the people crying "murderer" about Benoit. Grow the fuck up, please. I'll say it once again, in hopes that it gets through your thick skull into that small pea-sized object you call a brain - it isn't about honoring Benoit. It's about recognizing his place in history. The fact that he was absolutely not in his right mind when he killed his family and himself also neds an air of acceptability when it comes to putting him on these releases.
The real reason he's not on there? Because it was obvious that this man had a problem for a LONG time, and Vince let it go untreated and unchecked. Vince doesn't like people to be reminded of his company's level of guilt in the situation.
Posted By: Scott B (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 12:25 AM
Because Of WWE being PG, We Are robbed of one of wCW's greatest match, WAR GAMES 1992. That and No early steve austin matches. it would be nice to recognize steve's early days feuding with steamboat, sting, dustin and his membership in the great stable of the early '90s, the dangerous alliance.
Posted By: psjmitch (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 01:13 AM

Posted By: Scott B (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:15 PM
Ok his place in history is that he nearly brought down the entire business with his actions plus his drug use made for a lot more publicity for the business as a whole. His coming over to WWF was only significant for a week and wasn't much of a draw as some would love to claim he was. YOu Benoit marks are disgusting honestly hes not some poor innocent victim whose being blackballed or just blacklisted like Warrior or Savage hes a killer of his whole family and thats sick.
Posted By: Guest#7465 (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 01:31 AM
WTF!!!! were the h*ll is the ROAD WARRIORS??????????????
Posted By: whattttt a rush!!!! (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 02:53 AM
wow, ONE match from the last two and a half years of WCW...
Yeah, there's a good reason for that.
Posted By: Kiz (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 02:57 AM
Full 3 hour documentary as opposed to the Starrcade 50 minute afterthought?
RnRs vs Midnights?
Chi-town rumble?
War Games?
Steiners?
Sting vs Vader?
Only 1 post 1998 match?
Should be freaking sweet, a tad more akin to what the Monday Night Wars set should have been (i.e. longer)
Posted By: Quimby (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 03:49 AM
Looks to be a great set..obviously matches were picked through since so many other greats can be found on other DVD sets already. The Southern Boys v Midnights is a MUST for any fan of tag team wrestling. Oddly, not one Road Warriors match, but they do have a DVD set from a few years ago.
As for the Benoit deal, I know everyone has their feelings on this topic, as do I. Still, he was great in the ring and I think you can include one match with a personal disclaimer attached to it. It I had to choose one, I loved the triple threat with him, Raven, and DDP at Uncensored 1998. Great match if you can find it anywhere..
Posted By: Skiddy (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 04:48 AM
For those who keep going on about Benoit, hes never going to be on a dvd set again so get the fuck over it already, he deserves jack shit after what he did.
Also Sting-Hogan is both on the starrcade dvd & a terrible match, why would it be on here aswell?
I think they did a great job with the match listing, i mean Vader title win over Sting? Sting/Luger v Steiners? Eddie-Malenko No Dq? DDP-Goldberg? some really good matches right there that havnt been on dvd yet.
People on here will bitch no matter whats on or not on a dvd, its simple really dont buy it.
Posted By: jbardo (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 06:28 AM
They need a Clash of Champions dvd next, so many gems happened on those, esp from 1992-1993.
Posted By: jbardo (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 06:33 AM
Disk 3 looks a little bit meh, but the rest looks great. Is the Vader vs Sting Match the Strap Match?
Posted By: Malte (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 06:48 AM
Scott B...are you serious? Listen, if you can look past that Benoit murdered his wife and child, bully for you. I don't understand that, but it's your choice. He was one of my favourite wrestlers, and as far as I'm concerned he can rot.
But give your head a shake. The WWE is smart enough to know that to be seen as profiting from a murderer is a terrible idea. Remember how much stick they took for the "tribute" show? Why would they want to go there again? It's a dangerous place for them to go...never mind that many people in the WWE might, you know, might genuinely be appalled at his heinous crime and prefer not to discuss him again. In the same vein, you'll note the Buffalo Bills avoid talking about OJ Simpson, easily the most important player in their team history. And Benoit was never as big a star as Simpson.
The WWE isn't erasing Benoit's legacy. Benoit did it himself.
Posted By: Canucklehead (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 08:03 AM
A lot of these maches have already been released. This set looks really bad actually. I want more WCW already, this will not do. VERY Dissapointed. What do the kids say around here? EPIC FAIL~!
Posted By: KweeWeeTheMaestro (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 08:17 AM
Matches from 1999 that could have been included:
Sting vs DDP vs. Hogan vs. Flair
Spring Stampede 1999
Sting vs. DDP April ?? 1999
Bret Hart vs. Chris Benoit
Mayhem 1999
Benoit vs Jarrett
Ladder Match- Starrcade 1999
Just a few I can think of.
Posted By: Stinger126 (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 08:21 AM
Benoit nearly brought down the whole business ? I don't think so... His death and most notably his family's deaths are tragic but in his life he entertained many... He was an entertainer... I have no problems in still enjoying some of his epic matches
Posted By: dj_bollocks (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 09:57 AM
Aw, Scott B was on the verge of tears as he typed that.
Posted By: Foolio (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 10:32 AM
DDP vs Goldberg.
Saw that match on Main Event here in Australia. Was one of the best matches I'd ever seen in my opinion. I really thought DDP had a chance, and he was my favourite.
Posted By: Banz (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 10:37 AM
If they truly wanted to show the fall of WCW, they should have the David Arquette winning the championship match.
Biggest fail ever.
Posted By: Mighty One (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 10:46 AM
Could have been worse. Mr. Roboto could have killed his dogs too.
Posted By: zarathos (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 11:05 AM
Just because Benoit was framed by Kevin Sullivan & the Dungeon of Doom doesn't mean that he should be omitted from a history that he played a part in.
Posted By: Magnum TOKYO, JP (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 11:19 AM
WTF! only one Booker T match! The guy literally came up from nothin to a World Champion in WCW with many great matches and he just gets one match!I understand not including the Benoit series but what about his matches with Jerico,Finlay,Eddie,Hart, and his upset victory over Goldberg on Nitro.Jim Ross made the comment on the Monday Night War dvd that the only person to get a break was Bill Goldberg.WRONG!The rise of Booker T in WCW was one of the few things I really loved about WCW. God i HATE the WWE.
Posted By: SmashAdams (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 11:25 AM
Great DVD set there.
I probably would have included Sting vs. Flair from the final Nitro on Disc 3, but other than that, definitely looks like a good one.

I too have no problem enjoying some of his great matches! That's why I watch his 2 disc WWE DVD and some of the other DVD's I bought BEFORE HE DIED!!!
All these people bitching about not getting to see Benoit, if you were such a fan, why didn't you buy his DVD's when he WAS ALIVE?!?!?
The WWE will NEVER put any type of DVD out with Benoit on it EVER AGAIN!!
However, there is MORE THAN enough footage already released you just would have to have been a fan of pro wrestling for more than the past 5 years!!!!
If the Benoit murders had never happend, you trolls would probably be bitching that there is TOO MUCH BENOIT on the set!!!
You are never happy so stop watching pro wrestling and find somehting that brings you some joy!!!!!

Exactly. I prefer if the WWE include matches not released before on DVD once they do a new set. So as far as I'm concerned, WWE doesn't have to use matches from Royal Rumble, Summerslam and Wrestlemania on their DVD sets. Those matches are available on the anthology DVD sets already.

Kind of a disappointing match selection. But I'll probably pick it up, even though I have most of the matches/ppvs on vhs already.

Ric Flair vs Sting should be on there...and I hope his WCW final speech on nitro is on there at the end because it is epic....but it does attack Vince so it will probably be left out
As for the matches there are like 6 that are close to 5 star matches...they even feature the best goldberg match of all time...prob could of included goldberg steiner at fall brawl...check that out...Glad Lance made the listing, team canada ran WCW back in 1999 2000...they prob dont have much in 1999-2000 bc Jarrett ran WCW back then...should give us a tag team cruiserweight match...elix skipper kidman rey and kid romeo toar shit down

Hmmm...lets review, shall we?
So far, we have had:
*An ECW DVD
*An 80's Stars DVD
*A 90's Stars DVD
*A WCW DVD
*A Monday Night Wars DVD
That begs the question...
What could be left from the 80's, 90's, or 2000's that hasn't been made into a DVD yet? What major period in pro wrestling history has been missed? Was it XPW? No, they sucked... Was it Japan in the 1990's? No, no kid will want to see that... Then it must have been...
THE ATTITUDE ERA!
The next retrospective DVD will be another DVD overly praising Vince McMahon, Triple H and Austin and another DVD to not mention Benoit! I can't wait!

I really HATE how the WWE DVD sets are put together. The main programs are generally good, but I'm sorry -- there's no reason not to have matches that define WCW -- for better and worse, such as the formation of the NWO and the Sting/Hogan debacle. I know the matches blow (definitely the latter), but they deserve to be on the set.
Of course, this might piss off the 14 year olds whose parents bought them every other WWE DVD.
I'd rather have some overlap than miss parts of a story because WWE has accountants making their DVDs.

Super God, man. I know Ric Flair was great, but I don't need 200 of his matches. I wanna learn about other wrestlers - Chris Jericho vs Juventud - that's more like it. I wanna see something more than just the same 20 wrestlers over and over again.

Benoit DO NOT deserve his place. He blew it away killing his entire family. That's automatic omission and deserves to be whitewashed from wrestling history.
