Edge Injured At WWE House Show
Posted by Larry Csonka on 07.04.2009

Last night at a WWE house show in San Diego, Edge was injured in a match with Jeff Hardy. About 5-minutes into the match, Edge went down with what looks to be a torn Achilles tendon. The injury looked to come off of him simply planting his foot wrong. The match was immediately stopped, and EMT's came to the ring to help Edge, who apologized to the fans before being taken to the back.

If the injury is a torn Achilles tendon, it will require surgery and a long recovery time. WWE is currently looking for a way to get the tag titles onto Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase. The company is also looking at footage shot for this week's Smackdown, to see if there is a spot in the footage where they can claim the injury took place, if the torn Achilles tendon is the actual injury.

Oh no no no, that is a SERIOUS injury. I've known two people whose achilles tendons were torn, and both of them had to walk with canes for over a year.

Posted By: KanyonKreist (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 10:23 AM

Likely cause for the rupture being the fact that he's had to carry half the damn company on his back for the last few months.

Here's to hoping for a quick turnaround.

Hahaha! WWE sucks!

I wonder how many comments there will be of a 'Kennedy/Batista' nature?!

Bad luck for Edge though, I was looking forward to a long title reign from him and Jericho. Jericho should have the option of finding a replacement partner (I'd go for Matt Hardy but he is injured too!)

Posted By: Armitage Shanks (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 10:38 AM

Best wishes to Edge for a speedy recovery. However, isn't he becoming a liability with his recurring injuries?

Posted By: NoirFan (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 10:41 AM

WEll thats pretty sweet if he was apologising... i tip my hat to him for that.

Posted By: nice (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 10:42 AM

Watch Christian jump to SD as Jericho's new tag team partner just so they can continue to taunt us with the E&C reunion.

I think it's awesome that he apologized to the fans. It speaks volumes about his passion as a performer, and that's why he's main eventing pay-per-views.

Damn that Blows...WWE cant seem to get away from the injury bug....Maybe just maybe cut down the massive time on the road and having the boys wrestle so many friggin days...Tna guys are definetly not getting injured as much

Yay, Cody Rhodes - 4 or 5 time WWE Tag Team Champion in under 2 years. Another boring legacy reign on the way >_>

YES! Thank God Edge will be off my TV for a while... hopefully for AT LEAST 6 months. NOW is the Time to push a NEW top heel on Smackdown.
NOW IS PUNK'S TIME TO SHINE!!!

Make this happen WWE!!

And this is a lesson to ALL young wrestlers. With the INTENSE pain Adam must have been in, he took the time to respect the fans and apologize to them. The man has become a complete class act. Get well SOON Edge...and come back SOON. You are most DEFINITELY needed.

Man, that sucks for Edge. It was real classy of him to apologize to the audience as he was heading out to get medical attention. Heal up soon, Edgester.

Fuck, this is the kind of injury which puts you out for like a year and a half

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

noooooo. not edge. hopefully they can still keep him on TV some way. class act, appologising to the fans.

Good

OUCH.

Posted By: Guest#5727 (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 11:38 AM

Shit. At least it didn't happen whilst he was holding the heavyweight title. We've had enough of that the last few years (Batista, Undertaker spring immediately to mind). And giving the tag titles to Legacy would at least give them some legitimacy if they continue having dissension with Orton. Plus, it gets a heel out of the way on Smackdown, paving the way for Punk to continue down the path to heeldom.

And yet, even given all of the above potential benefits, this still sucks :(

Posted By: Ice (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 11:44 AM

...shit

Hope its not too bad.

Posted By: Brent (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 11:48 AM

At least it was not an injury that steroids could have caused. He won't be future endeavored from it im sure.
Legacy all the titles now.

Not too pretty good.

fuck. edge is wwe's go to guy. hope he gets better real quick.

Posted By: Ric Switzer (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 11:55 AM

CM Punk... Welcome to the Main Event #1 Heel Spot on Smackdown since the company for some odd and strange reason won't let Jericho do it.

Posted By: Legacy (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 11:59 AM

Jeez. Ithink after enough main eventers get injured, the WWE will be forced to put Shelton Benjamin, Kofi, John Morrison, and the other guys that deserve a spot in the main event in the spotlight. Edge is still awesome on the mic so he shouldnt be off tv for too long. Unlike Dave Batista who stinks on the mic.

Posted By: Roger Martins (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 12:00 PM

how the hell would you know what a torn Achilles Tendon looks like?

Posted By: The Docter (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 12:01 PM

Bloody hell! Bad News for the Rated R Superstar!

Hope is isnt the achilles, but looks like it is!

Get better soon!

Posted By: Jacko (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 12:02 PM

thats a huge blow, really hope it isnt as bad as they say

Posted By: andys (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 12:02 PM

Yes please take the tag titles off the thrown together tag team. Let us see more Legacy vs Colons. Or other teams like Cryme Tyme, Hart Trilogy, Burchill/Regal

Posted By: Guest#3288 (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 12:09 PM

Here's an easy one: Edge got injured at a house show: Let's have a tournament to crown new champs. It puts over Legacy, and gives 7 other teams a shot at legitimacy (4 if we discount the 3 other semi-regular teams). Heck, even Kendrick could pick another lame partner and that fills another spot.

But what do I know?

Posted By: 2 Stoned Corpio (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 12:17 PM

FUCK.

Posted By: Guest#5106 (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 12:17 PM

Better fire him for being injury prone

Posted By: Mr.Kennedy (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 12:18 PM

This really is bad news. Rated Y2J looked simply awesome, but instead of simply getting the belts onto Priceless, a better route would be Jericho bringing in an apprentice from FCW perhaps?

Posted By: Chris McQuiggin (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 12:20 PM

This really sucks, Edge is a great performer and vrings alot to the table. I hope it is not that serious and he can make his way back sooner then later.

Posted By: Dan (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 12:22 PM

SHIT.... Rated Y2J cut short.

Edge will comeback as a massive babyface... but I'm gonna miss the slow burn face turn.

I think Jericho should just beat the piss out of him on SD next week.

Posted By: Andrew Barbarash (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 12:23 PM

What a move by one of their top heels, apologizing to the fans. This is terrible!! I hope it doesn't turn out to be too bad.

Heal up and get well soon Edge. You're one of the best things going in the WWE today.

Posted By: Guest#7311 (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 12:25 PM

Poor guy. He had actually been complaining about being really worn down. Yet they book him on a house show. Have him work as little as possible when he feels like that and don't book him on any goddamn house shows.

Posted By: the dude (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 12:25 PM

This sucks. Why can't Randy Bortin get a long injury?

Posted By: iomis (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 12:37 PM

can't they just put together a fake match using single frame stills shown out of order ?

remember when miz & Jo-Mo won the titles, they didn't show the match.. they showed stills in cgi instant-photo graphics to show important bits of a match with them posing at the end..

they could do the same thing again, then just have the "other" team posing with the belts after..

lol, hell.. they could even say the match took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil..

it might not get to be legacy who is awarded the titles.. but who ever it is could then face legacy by order of Raw Special Host, The Million Dollar Man.. and ba-da-bing-ba-da-boom here ya go have a nice day.

Posted By: DumDum (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 12:56 PM

I saw Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase at the Sydney show tonight, and putting the tag titles on them is not a good idea. DiBiase's right arm is fucked, it was taped up to the point where it looked like he was wearing a cast over it, and he could hardly move it all match.

Posted By: ausjimmy (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 01:23 PM

That sucks for Edge and I'm bummed he'll be out for any amount of time. Fuck putting the titles on Rhodes and DiBiase. They need to put the titles on The Hart Dynasty. Then, they could have Natalya win both the Women's and the Divas' Titles. One can dream...

Posted By: Sandro (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 01:44 PM

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, not Edge!
Why couldn't this have happened to HHH instead? :(

Elton Brand had an achilles injury before the start of the 2007 season. He got it surgically repaired and rehabbed it for at least 8 months.

Good news is that you can make a 100% full recovery.

WWE injuries=weakened WWE=more competition from strengthened TNA=better wrestling all around

I am not a big fan of his, but, I really hope it isn't what they think it is..He has been carrying Smackdown for a long long time. He is the face of Smackdown This is such a serious injury. Feel better soon Edge..

Posted By: guest727 (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 02:52 PM

I agree Jericho should get a replacement partner...its really heelish if he gives the title to someone else (like Matt) and could set up an awesome Y2J/Edge feud upon the return.

Posted By: Guest#4132 (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 02:53 PM

Does this mean Jericho will carry four championship belts to the ring now?

Posted By: Guest#5744 (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 02:58 PM

"Likely cause for the rupture being the fact that he's had to carry half the damn company on his back for the last few months."

Took the words right out of my mouth. Here's hoping for a quick recovery.

i wish it was hhh who got injured instead of edge. EDGE > TRIPLE H x 100

bummer for edge but......his comeback will be at the perfect time. the crowd will go apeshit.

Posted By: el duce (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 04:06 PM

Sucks about Edge.
Please don't give the titles to Legacy, Legacy is a failed project IMO.

Posted By: The Diceman (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 04:13 PM

Well maybe a return of shawn michaels might happen now. With edge down, they must be leaving multiple messages on his machine. Espiecally right before summerslam.

Posted By: DoggyStyle (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 04:38 PM

Time for the full CM Punk heel turn!!! Woooooo!!

Seriously though, all the best to Edge. He's awesome, and hope he's back soon (he still owes me a title run that lasts more than a couple of months!)

Posted By: KX (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 04:43 PM

That sucks... too bad it wasn't Cena

Posted By: Kevin (Gues

why do wrestling fans get such a bad rap.... because inbred rednecks like kevin wish for someone to be injured because they dont like them.

Posted By: Guest#9856 (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 05:00 PM

hart dynasty? really sandro? DH Smith is a piece of dog poo and lucky to even be on tv! Might as well throw the titles in the trash if you're thinking about giving them to him!!!!

Jericho needs no partner, he can carry the entire tag division on his own!

Posted By: Guest#2640 (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 06:37 PM

Would it really be that difficult to tell the truth and say he got hurt at a house show, and Jericho can choose a new partner?

Posted By: Big Ell (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 08:12 PM

While I'm not a huge Edge fan (character-wise, that is), I admire his work over the years and think it sucks that he had such a serious injury. Plus, the apology to the fans shows how much it all means to him.

I seriously doubt that his job will be on the line like people are automatically jumping to the conclusion of, because it's been years since he was out with something that serious.

I wish him the best of luck and a speedy recovery. *strikes a five-second pose*

Posted By: Lycan (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 09:08 PM

DAMMIT!!!!!

Sadly, something this was expected since he's been wrestling hurt for a while apparently..

but still.... DAMMIT!!!

"Oh no no no, that is a SERIOUS injury. I've known two people whose achilles tendons were torn, and both of them had to walk with canes for over a yea"

But I can guarantee that neither had the medical care that the WWE superstars receive nor the shape that edge is in

Posted By: Horhay (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 10:21 PM

Jericho and Christian as tag team champions with Edge as their 'manager' (in a wheelchair for the visuals and a slight Vickie riff) touring the different brands as undisputed tag team champions. Promos would be awesome, Christian gets out elevated, matches would be brilliant and as a faction what could top the Canadian Trinity?

Posted By: y2l (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 11:39 PM

Sometimes I just don't get the news. How is it wrestlingobserver can not know the nature or severity of Edges injury, but they do know what the production people are doing and what the higher up's are thinking about the situation and how they will handle the injury on TV (If he is injured). Seems like a logic gap in there to me.

Posted By: Guest#8120 (Guest) on July 04, 2009 at 11:15 AM

uh.....probably because when the article went to print, they had no idea what the injury was becasue either Edge hadn't come out of an emergency room yet OR the WWE didn't give that info to the person who was filing the story.

There's your "logic".

Posted By: Conspiracy? Doubt it! (Guest)  on July 05, 2009 at 02:09 PM

Damnit, put the belts back on the Colons if Edge is injured. Rhodes and Dibiase have no charisma and don't deserve to be Champions.

Posted By: Dwayne (Guest)  on July 05, 2009 at 03:18 PM
