Jim Ross Speaks On Brock Lesnar's Post-Fight Actions

The longtime WWE employee gives his thoughts and says he wasn't surprised...
Former WWE Executive Vice President of Talent Relations and longtime announcer Jim Ross has updated his blog with his thoughts about Brock Lesnar's actions following his win over Frank Mir at UFC 100.
Lesnar's post match, unscripted remarks did not completely surpirse (sic) me. Those that do not personally know Lesnar as do I need to understand that his level of intensity and fury is scary. Brock has said many things in private conversations that I have been a part of that would make one do a double take. He is an intimidating, emotional jock who has been known for speaking first and thinking later. I don't think Brock is an inherently evil person whatsoever but his level of competitiveness can be dangerous. It's like Brock "moonsaulting" at Wrestlemania 19 in Seattle against Kurt Angle when being advised not to prior to the bout. Lesnar was told that men his size don't do top rope Moonsaults which was the wrong thing to say to the former NCAA All American and National Champion. Lesnar came close to tragically ending his athletic career that night while defying logic and doing what others told him that he could not do.
Lesnar, as I pointed out a couple of days ago, loves to be jeered...the louder the better. Brock takes his game to another level when he knows that it's him against the world. ...When Lesnar, who detested the travel and emotional demands of WWE's schedule, was the most "hated villain" on the roster he was at his happiest in sports entertainment.
Plus, let's not forget that some people genuinely enjoy being a badass bully. Lesnar, in a ring, mat, or octagon, embraces that persona. Brock may say that he did not like school but the South Dakota farm boy is far from being a dumb jock. Lesnar has plenty of common sense and knows, as Eric Bischoff wrote, that controversy does in deed create cash.
It was a shooting star press, not a moonsault, ya dummy.

Cue the 50 people pointing out that he actually did a Shooting Star Press, not a Moonsault.

wait....I thought he did a shooting star press?

Um ... it was a shooting star press.

It's pretty tough to botch a moonsault. A SSP, on the other hand...

Lesnar was created for UFC. His personality, his athleticism, his talents fit the sport perfectly. People who love UFC love a badass. Tito Ortiz can call himself the "Huntington Beach Bad Boy" and he had the perfect look to be a pro wrestler, but fact is, Lesnar may take the sport to new heights.
Dana White wouldn't have said a word about Lesnar's "antics" if he didn't insult a major corporate sponsor.
BTW, JR, he nearly broke his neck doing a shooting star press, not a moonsault.

I hated how we were forcefed Brock in the WWE in the early 2000's, but now I really wish he would return. I guess he knew how to leave us wanting more.
Posted By: FUZEY (Guest) on July 12, 2009 at 11:29 PM
But the Moonsault was a regular move in this move set back when he was in OVW, wasn't it? Also, JR is name dropping more than the Game (rapper, not wrestler)
Posted By: Industry (Guest) on July 12, 2009 at 11:31 PM
now JR is confusing Moonsaults .. i could see Mike Tenay making that mistake .. but come on JR
Posted By: baxter (Guest) on July 12, 2009 at 11:40 PM
i guess by moonsault he means a shooting star press.

What Brock is doing is genius, because when people know hes gonna fight, they're gonna watch, hoping to see him lose, and when they do, they'll pop HUGE... is he acting? probrably not... but if the UFC can manage to somewhat control Brock's mouth... my GOD!

Cock Lesnar defines the word douchebag. He IS a dumb jock and could possibly be the dumbest human being alive. I hope he gets killed for real.
Posted By: Guest#5550 (Guest) on July 12, 2009 at 11:57 PM
'men his size don't do top rope moonsaults' Kenta Kobashi and Vader could do that. A SSP however is a different story.

Coming from someone who couldn't think of a better insult to use than "Cock Lesnar" I think Brock's intelligence level is far superior to your own.
As much as Dana was pissed about Brock's post-fight tirade, part of him had to be smiling as well because he knows that Lesnar just became the new 'bad boy' of the UFC. People will pay big money to watch him fight, whether it be to cheer him on or because they want to see him get his ass kicked, Brock will sell TONS of tickets/PPV's over the next few years.
I agree with whomever said it earlier, I doubt Dana would have been as mad about Brock's tirade had he not publicly ripped Bud Light, a major UFC sponser.

A little bit of Attitude Adjustment will set Brock straight.

Lesnar will put the Honky Tonk Man's reign to shame. And I love it!

Shut up with that fake stuff, cena does not rulz and neither do you! Brock tore him up in the WWE and would in real life.

Lesnar's promo proves that the death of kayfabe was the death of pro wrestling. As long as the fans of UFC believe that it is 100% legit, then it will go forever.
Posted By: Darth Mortis (Guest) on July 13, 2009 at 01:04 AM
Don't be callin that a moonsault in pulick J.R. It was a mid-air flip, flop and fly on his way to the pay winda.

I love how some Yahoo columnist got anally offended about the comment Brock made about getting on top of his wife and how children would be offended or something of that nature.
Why the hell would 8-12 years be up past midnight watching UFC? I really dont think those parents are too worried about their kids hearing about Brock plowing his wife if they are allowing them to watch human cockfighting.

it was a shooting star press, and a one shot deal
Posted By: RVD (Guest) on July 13, 2009 at 03:18 AM
I personally enjoyed & was entertained by Lesnar's post bout hijinx. I think that the UFC could benefit financially from this type of behavior, of course it would have to be used in moderation; but i think a little more showmanship & flash is just what MMA needs. Just think of what Muhammad Ali did for boxing, not only with his talent in the ring, but his ability to promote & draw interest.

it's a funny statement from ross considering the ssp as not too long ago brock claimed that good ol' jr stirred him into doing it as the match needed a wm moment.
knowing the hypocrite jr is, i tend to beleive brock in that case.

Moron it was a shooting moonsault

personnaly i really hate him for being like that he was my favourite wwe wrestler from day 1 to last day , then i got sick of wwe and their boring repetative crap so i stopped watching , then i saw the announcement he signed to ufc (which i love and never miss) cheered for him in the 1st fight he lost then being like he is since then talking shit about everyone. Cheered for Frank today (for the 1st time). Then after the fight (and before) no damn respect for anyone! he lost all my respect and this shit does not belong in ufc. I wanted to see his fights because i liked him but not any more i don't give a damn now if he goes in next time and breaks his arm or leg (Corey Hill style).
Posted By: Guest#5802 (Guest) on July 13, 2009 at 05:27 AM
Brock did that for people like Bobby Lashley when he fought Mike Cook and he decided to be a smart ass wearing a rey mysterio mask to the ring, then he tapped 0:24 later. Good for you Brock!
Posted By: guest1228 (Guest) on July 13, 2009 at 08:52 AM
I'd like to see Brock Lesnar get in a WWE ring one more time, face off against Triple H, and shoot on him. Or shoot him. Either way, Triple H wouldn't be turning Raw main events into situations where fun and entertainment goes to die.
And even though she's a bit thin, I'd bang the hell out of Sable too.

"Lesnar, as I pointed out a couple of days ago, loves to be jeered...the louder the better"
Then why his reaction to MSG booing the fuck out of him?

Every MMA fan who complains about this being "too WWE" needs to realize that the Shamrock/Ortiz fight on free TV a few years ago was build totally off pro wrestling promos and was one of the most successful fights in history.
Posted By: Guest#6983 (Guest) on July 13, 2009 at 11:01 AM
Lesnar's post fight antics are exactly what the UFC needs if they want to make the heavyweight division the premier division in MMA. Tito Ortiz admitted that he became successful once he realized that he needed a character, even in the world of legit fighting. Brock is now poised to become the UFC's #1 star.
He won't be the face of the UFC since he's a "heel," but he'll be their top draw. People will rejoice when he loses, but his antics and trash talking will keep him under UFC contract for a long, long time. Even without a title, Brock's fights will be main events that everyone tunes in to see.
And I guarnatee you Dana White loves every second of it.

He didn't do a shooting star press or a moonsault, he did a "run your head into the mat" press.
Posted By: BillZilla (Guest) on July 13, 2009 at 11:06 AM
A moonsault is pretty easy to botch.
Also, if you consider a Moonsault is a backflip bodypress, then an SSP IS a moonsault, except you jump forwards instead of backwards
It's certainly closer than somersault planchas and cross body blocks being called "moonsaults" like Gorilla Monsoon always did
Posted By: Guest#8636 (Guest) on July 13, 2009 at 11:21 AM
Brock is almost as dumb as golfer, John Daly. Two hillbillies.
Epic stupidity.

I'd like to pretend to be Tony Schiavone (sp?) and correct JR that it wasn't a mooonsault, it was a side-walk slam.
