WWE PPV Buyrate Update
Posted by Larry Csonka on 08.06.2009
Check out the latest WWE PPV numbers…
- WWE released their second quarter financials today, and with that, the recent PPV numbers. WrestleMania, which was in the first quarter last year, has done 960,000 buys thus far, and helped the quarter show an improvement of nearly 800,000 buys.
- The Backlash PPV did 182,000 buys, down from 200,000 in 2008.
- The Judgment Day PPV did 228,000 buys, down from 252,000 in 2008.
- The Extreme Rules PPV did 213,000 buys, up from 194,000 in 2008.
- The Bash, which was not in the 2nd quarter last year, did 178,000 buys.
TNA Improved by 2 buys, bringing their total 10,013!

these numbers in a bad economy are still good and far bigger than tna has ever taken in during their entire existence.

PPV buyrates are still pretty strong considering the economy and how crappy the product is. Plus the increased use of streaming sites, these numbers are shockingly good.

It's incredible to see the numbers for Wrestlemania being so high...even in the current world state. Shows that Wrestlemania can still sell off of name alone.
As for the others, a steady drop here and there. I always thought even 12 pay per views were too much. I liked it back when it was a Raw PPV, then a Smackdown PPV...it allowed the TV show to develop a feud for a PPV every other month, which I feel helped.
6 pay per views every other month could help, but with the amount of money they pull in from the 12+ per year, it's only just a pipe dream.

I love how the smartasses on here constantly use TNA's name in a WWE topic. WWE is bigger than TNA, perhaps you're the ones who see it as some big threat when in reality it is a speck on the mere giant that is WWE.
I wish 411mania only had sensible people commenting on here.

Brock Lesnar pretty much doubled WM for the UFC, with 1.72M buys. That's funny.

No WrestleMania buys in 2008? lol

No need to compare TNA to the WWE machine...WWE did good numbers considering the internet and live streaming and things of that nature....

Ok, let's just look at only Backlash, Judgment Day, and Extreme Rules/One Night Stand... 2008 did 646,000 buys and 2009 only had 623,000... so those alone say buyrates are DOWN!!!

You might want to read sometime.

Does anyone know why Backlash and Judgment Day are registered, but the Bash, ONS, Extreme Rules and NOC are trademarked?

Yeah, honestly, why is anyone even mentioning TNA here? I don't see any of their buyrates listed.
I wonder if WWE will ever figure out that maybe they just have too damn many PPVs. None of them feel special anymore.

I never purchase that garbage.
I'd rather watch it on a messy stream, and I advise the rest of you to do so.
But even then, you'll probably feel as if you wasted your precious time watching it.

To the guy who had to remind everybody over how Backlash and Judgment Day: Yeah they might have gone down a little but it still more than what TNA does at this time. And some use this as proof that WWE is in danger of dying (I know not everybody says that, but some seem to imply it) when it isn't in danger of dying.
WWE will not die despite what the haters think.

The Bash is the lowest number in 13 years too.
Posted By: Guest#6185 (Guest) on August 06, 2009 at 11:20 PM
the bash buyrate was not the lowest in 13 yeaRS, you asshole.
wcw had the bash ppv since 1985 and wcw had lousy buyrates for ppvs until the late 1990's when bischoff took over.
prior to the nitro era, wcw was a money pit.
turner only kept wcw alive because he had a soft spot for rassling.
