Various News: Piper At Summerslam, Christian In WWE Film, Cena Comments On Rock, RVD Interview, More
Posted by Ashish on 08.23.2009
Sunday news!
- WWE has brought Roddy Piper to LA for Summerslam. He did promotional work for WWE to the video game media last night. No word on if he will appear on the show. [Credit: PWInsider]
- In one of his ongoing Summerslam blog entries, Christian mentions reading for a role in an upcoming WWE Studios film. Christian was recently in the Canadian horror flick, Dark Rising, and also had a small role in Shoot 'Em Up. John Morrison, The Miz, and Dolph Ziggler also read for the role.
- In an interview with Sporting News Radio this past Thursday, John Cena said that he was outspoken with Vince McMahon regarding WWE shifting to a PG product, saying he thinks it is important for the product to be family friendly. He also said that he wishes Dwayne Johnson had never left WWE and claimed that Johnson had at some point said he would never leave wrestling but that he did anyway. Cena said he would never leave wrestling. He said there is no bad blood though.
- An RVD interview is up here where he talks about his appearance for the American Wrestling Rampage promotion in Europe, the re-launch of ECW in 2006, being arrested, Brock Lesnar, Triple H, and more.
- Movieset has a behind the scenes clip from Steve Austin's new movie, The Stranger.
Cena needs to stop mentioning The Rock in every interview.

"Christian [...] had a small role in Shoot 'Em Up."
That's a nice way to say it. He was on screen for less than a second.

Ok Cena I like you, but let the Rock thing go.

Man I bet cena has a room in his house where he sits and cuts the rock's picture out of hundreds of magazines and periodicals.
Posted By: Groot (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 02:15 AM
Cena commented on the Rock? Surely you jest!
It's getting old, John. If this ISN'T a work at this point, then it's just kind of sad.
Posted By: Again? (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 02:19 AM
so cena is to blame for the crappy family fun hour we get? Wrestling's highest era was the Attitude Era and they really should go back to the edgy more raw content they put on.
Posted By: Guest#9673 (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 02:40 AM
Can't wait to hear the sound of the bagpipes playing 'Scotland the Brave' over a WWE soundsystem again ... as Gino Marella would say "it'll be a happening".
Posted By: Old School Fool (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 03:02 AM
Cena knows he'll never be on Rocky's level and that today's current product can never match the Attitude era. Vince got lazy. Of course it's easier to write TV that appeals to 12 year olds. WWE-PG is lame and boring.
Posted By: MBD (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 03:16 AM
Christ, how many times is Cena going to make the same tired point about Rock leaving WWE. Whether or not you think his points are valid, come on, it's time to shut up John. And you know, when you make movies like The Marine and 12 Rounds, it's not saying much when you promise that you'll never leave wrestling. That would be like Roseanne promising she wouldn't leave acting for a singing career after she butchered the national anthem.
Posted By: Rob (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 03:38 AM
Even while trying to verbally bury The Rock, Cena admits his greatness.
Posted By: Guest#9078 (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 03:39 AM
why is cena STILL TALKING ABOUT MAIVIA?!
Posted By: Guest#1695 (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 03:47 AM
cena vs rock wm26 book it!
Posted By: jords (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 03:49 AM
Good lord can't Cena give this up? The Rock got offered the best career in the world for way more money than he would ever make wrestling. I wish he never left either but damn dude, let it go already.
Posted By: Guest#4064 (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 03:50 AM
You'll never leave wrestling because you'll never have the choice Cena ;-)
Posted By: Guest#4292 (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 04:04 AM
Man.... He's STILL talking about Dwayne Johnson?!? That dude loves to beat a dead horse...

I think Cena is in love with The Rock
Posted By: A-Ron (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 04:07 AM
I imagine Cena was asked about Rocky in the interview though. It's not like he just sat down and began with "So, I'll tell you about The Rock..." You can only answer the questions your given.
Posted By: Guest#9321 (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 04:49 AM
I have a strange feeling Cena v. Johnson will happen at WM26---they all come back eventually and if you throw enough money at someone they will eventually cave in---in this case, Dwayne Johnson comes back as an uber heel and you will see a huge build up starting in November. Everything in pro wrestling is a work: this one is just a slow burn. Just a hunch...

You must be insane, its much easier to write for an older teen audience, just add some sex, violence, shocking soap style story lines, scandals. Thats why we have had such greats like the katie vick, al wilson, billy and chuck and vince vs god. You see with pg, they are limited in what they can do, so they are kinda forced to make actual storylines that make sense, since this whole thing weve had jericho/hbk, hbk/jbl, the whole orton vs mcmahon saga, the hardy vs hardy stuff and lets not forget more recently the great cm punk stuff. I miss alot of the crazy stuff they used to do as well, but if theres one thing thats improved its the story writing....now if only vince could push more new people.
Posted By: gooched (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 05:00 AM
To be fair, I don't agree with Cena at all on his points about The Rock BUT - He made that statement once and since then I would say he has always been specifically asked by the Journalist interviewing him about The Rock, and he's been honest and said the same thing. The Journalist would just be looking for a cheap and easy controversial quote.
He still can't hold a candle to Rock on a Sports Entertainment level though....
Posted By: The Stealer (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 05:28 AM
the only reason cena pushed for family friendly programming is because 5 year old kids are the only ones stupid enough to cheer for him, might as well exploit whatever opportunity you can get...
Posted By: Guest#0681 (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 06:02 AM
Cena doesn't love or hate The Rock. This is obviously a talking point, and the only way Vince can angle his way into a Cena v. Rock WM match. Doubt if it'll ever happen, since Rock has to know Vince's tricks, but it's worth a shot.
Posted By: Sam! (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 06:12 AM
Still hung up on the Rock thing Cena?
He really needs to shut up about that...and wasn't the more mature rapper Cena what got him over in the first place? PG Cena just ain't gonna cut it...
Then again, times have changed again...I can see them pushing PG-13 on Raw whilst staying more PG on Smackdown...

Kudos for making me laugh ditto Koby.
John Cena should stop trying to convince The Rock to come back,it's futile.
Anyone else think McMahon and Cena pushed for PG WWE to court the Rock?
Posted By: Propagandhi (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 08:14 AM
the only reason why cena mentions dwayne johnson is because the reporters ask him about it. HE SAID HE RESPECTS DWAYNE AND HAD NO BAD BLOOD WITH HIM.
cena just correctly points out the fact that johnson turned his back on the company who made him famous so he could enter the world of acting.
johnson even states that his wwe experience was instrumental in launching his acting career. johnson is a hypocrite but iwc maggots are too stupid to see that point.
trish stratus is retired from the wwe but she still makes appearances once in a while on wwe tv.

Don't you think it's more likely that the journalist brought up The Rock's name and asked Cena a question about him, rather than Cena answering a random question then finishing up with "hey, and you know what else? The Rock said he'd never leave.."
Posted By: Jack Conner (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 08:57 AM
You retards need everything spelled out for you, don't ya? Cena got ASKED a question about The Rock, it's not like he randomly brought it up like a crazy person.
Posted By: Guest#0271 (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 09:09 AM
Cena won't shut up about the vastly superior worker, he thinks the limited watered down PG shit is a good thing AND he clearly toes the company line all the time.
And people wonder why hardcore fans don't like this brown-nose?
Posted By: Frank (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 09:32 AM
do you idiots think an interview is just someone spouting off opinions on anything they want??? theyre asked questions, (cena, what do you think of the rocks movies?), and then they answer those questions. my god people, grow a frickin clue.
Posted By: smartest man ever (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 09:44 AM
Come on, Cena.. This is right up there with making fun of someone because they "read books," or criticizing those who "leave the ghetto" to make something out of themselves.
Posted By: Guest#2596 (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 09:59 AM
I think it's hysterical how many of you smarks don't recognize that Vince is TELLING Cena to bring up the Rock in every interview, because he wants him back.
Would it make you cry if I told you the fighting was fake?

Im hoping there setting up the Rock to be a guest GM of Raw which will lead to a Cena-Rock match at WM26
Posted By: hum (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 10:38 AM
I saw Dark Rising- pretty cheesy, but it was harmles fun. Christian was entertaining in it.
Posted By: FUZEY (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 10:41 AM
I wonder how many posters who are complaining about Cena mentioning The Rock so many times are the same ones who posted my "one-shot deal" joke every bit as many times and then some.
Posted By: RVD (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 10:43 AM
You guys are the ones posting like crazy on any article that relates to John Cena. Perhaps you are the ones in love with Cena, just saying.
And no, not going to read your response since most of you are major marks and only get balls when your behind a screen. Someday if you guys invite me, I'll give you my location and you can discuss wrestling with me up close and personal.
Posted By: JcJames (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 10:53 AM
This is the reason people hate cena. Recently the writers on this site have started to go "against the grain" and defend him, but it still doesnt matter, people still thinks he sucks so stop defending him. Every time I start to hate him a little less, he makes these jeleous bitch ass comments about someone who is a thousand times the performer and star he will ever be. I wish this no talent asshole would just go away, ofcourse he wants to stick with the pg thing because he knows only kids like him if the company starts gearing their attention to adult fans again he sell any merchandise anymore and he'd get booed even worse.
Posted By: cena sux (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 11:06 AM
You know how you can get Cena to stop talking about the Rock? Stop bringing it up with him.
Posted By: His Bubbliness (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 11:37 AM
We can now offically blame Cena for the poor quality programing on Raw,
Also at the same time, cry everynight knowing he has no intention of leaving a show based on wrestling. Something he knows very little about.
Posted By: wutthecrapman (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 11:43 AM
Oh, and speaking people needing to let things go, a list of dead horses people around here still beat in regards to wrestling:
-Bret Hart and the screwjob
-The death of WCW
-WWE's resurrection of ECW
-Vince's supposed love for big guys and Barbie dolls
-the invasion angle
-lack of attention for Randy Savage
-the days of the Attitude Era
-John Cena
It's called practicing what you preach.
Posted By: His Bubbliness (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 11:43 AM
Don't get Cena's point at all? Moans at The Rock for allegedly saying he'd never leave wrestling then doing so - then sets himself up to do exactly the same thing. Total clown :D Probably doesn't even realise he's headed the same way yet either...

Cena's simply stating The Rock wasn't a man of his word. The Rock said in his book that wrestling was his life and always will be.

As apposed to the clever intricateness of the Attitude Era, where you could basically do whatever stupid shit you wanted and just book end it with some tits and some cursing and all the 15 year old boys would eat it up.
Idiots like you should be forced to watch every Raw from that era back to back to realize how god-awful most of that stuff truly was. Everybody remembers Austin and D-X, but conveniently forgets The Oddities and Mideon.

When they asked Cena about the Rock, I think he just played a recorded message. Kinda like when people ask Santino about the time Cornette slapped him.
Posted By: y2kev (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 01:06 PM
yes john cena should stop trying to compare himself to dwayne, however dwayne needs to stop acting like wrestling never existed to him,
Posted By: nikki (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 01:08 PM
Well, it's been about 2 months, time for Cena to mention the Rock again in an interview. So he's to blame for this crapiness?
John Morrison would be excellent for taht role. Remember that short film he did a while back?....
Posted By: lilwayne1 (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 01:16 PM
Cena only approves of WWE PG because if they went back to Attitude Era style and had older fans, he'd get booed out the building every week.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it biatch.

Man, you people REALLY don't have a business mind, do you! Cena against the Rock at the next Wrestlemania would bring a MASSIVE payday! For the both of them AND for Vince. If Dwayne is truly done, it'll never happen, but if that IS what Cena is trying to do, you can't blame him one bit...I'D sure the fuck pay to see Rocky whip his ass!
Posted By: swoltz (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 01:55 PM
The attitude era was a rip off of ECW. Sandman was drinking and smoking before Stone Cold did that gimmick. Personally, a lot of the stuff they did back then was crude and stupid.
Posted By: Jerry (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 01:57 PM
Ok, we have to stop with this whole "Attitude Era was the height of pro wrestling" thing. In fact, wrestling was at it's peak during the 80s when *gasp* Hogan was preaching about eating vitamins and saying your prayers. Wrestling was EVERYWHERE, including having a Saturday morning cartoon that had a surprisingly good run. And if you count for inflation, Hogan probably outdrew Austin and definitely outdrew the Rock in terms of attendance and merch. Now I loved the Attitude Era, but we need to stop with this revisionist history that is going on. When the current crop of fans that the 'E is catering to with PG material grows into their teens, you will see the product shift. It's the nature of the beast.

Cena's just sewing the seeds.
_________
So Cena is taking a thread and needle through seeds? Oh, you meant "sowing."
Anyway, I'm not the Cena basher most are, but to say he was just answering a journalist's question is kind of a stretch. You know what would have been an appropriate answer if he didn't want to talk about it? "We've been over the Rock issue. You've heard my quotes, you've heard his. So we won't go there today." And by the way, people who are being interviewed in a sit down situation get to approve a group of questions beforehand. Just saying...
Posted By: MasterShake (Guest) on August 23, 2009 at 02:36 PM
Someone needs to tell Cena to take a look at Hogan and Flair and see what awaits him in the future. (except that no one will care.) Dwayne Johnson was smart for leaving for a brighter future, Hogan gave everything he had to wrestling and now Vince won't give him the time of day.

WWE just can't get over the fact that The Rock doesn't need them anymore and is making $$$ not having to damage his body every night.
You know the only reason Cena is always taking shots at the Rock is because he is under orders from WWE. WWE could love nothing more than to get the Rock back into a wrestling ring.
