WWE Suspends Rey Mysterio For Wellness Policy Violation
Posted by Larry Csonka on 08.27.2009
Oh Rey…
From WWE.com: In accordance with WWE's Wellness Program, effective Wednesday, September 2, Oscar Gutierrez (Rey Mysterio) is suspended for 30 days for a violation of the company's policy.
I KNEW there was no way he could have beat Ziggler clean.

Looks like Jeff Crackhead just dodged a bullet.
Posted By: Guest#0988 (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:43 PM
I believe was also on the 2007 list of WWE wrestlers caught amidst that steroid scandal, but with Batista, was not punished. With that being said, it is not surpring he was using something, he is surprising WWE punished him. He is already unhappy with the company, so he is promised a lenghy title run, only for this to happen......Now who will the kids root for on Smackdown? Certainly not Rey's drugged up friend Jeff Hardy.
Posted By: JUSTINW (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:43 PM
COME ON DOLPH !!!!
Posted By: Guest#6346 (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:45 PM
I guess the WWE deserves some credit for actually taking a star off the card and announcing it. If I'm not mistaken I think this is Rey's second violation so hopefully he'll get whatever help he needs and won't get into any more trouble.
Posted By: Justin (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:45 PM
I love how it says in accordance Sept. 2nd, so expect Dolph to win the title at a house show this weekend, as he is the new number one contender, ala Superstars. No match at Breaking Point unfortunately. Better get tickets for a house show now and see the title change.....
Posted By: JustRight (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:45 PM
YES! That's what he gets for whining to keep his IC belt. Well, and for roiding too.
Posted By: MissyNEVERWearssocksWithShoes (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:45 PM
Who's that gettin' high, R-E-Y Misterio, here we go...TO REHAB!
Posted By: Your Pal, Cheech (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:45 PM
New Intercontinental Champion:
Dolf Zigg- SWERVE
: Mike Knox
Posted By: AVcK (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:46 PM
And your new Intercontinental Champion... Dolph Ziggler!
Crowd: ZZZZZZZZZZ!
Too bad Rey had to fuck up here. As he was bringing prestiege back to the Intercontinental Title.
Now if Triple H gets a wellness violation, I'll buy the WWE's wellness policy as 100% legit. Till then I refuse to.
Posted By: mp (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:46 PM
What took so long? he's about 5'2'' and 250lbs
Posted By: Neil (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:46 PM
Anyone want to try and defend the little midget who put on 100 pounds in the last couple years.....(yes, before knowing if it was pain killers, steroids, or what not)
Posted By: Watry..... (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:46 PM
They should strip his IC title & have a tournament.
Posted By: Ryan (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:46 PM
You know what that means.
"Your NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW WWE Intercontinental Champion...Dolph Ziggler!"
Posted By: Anonymous Smart Mark (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:47 PM
Now, while it was incredibly stupid of Rey to violate the policy, this could be incredibly beneficial for the WWE. Take Rey off the road for a few weeks due to wellness, and there's a built-in feud with Punk when he gets back. Considering the dearth of Babyfaces on Smackdown, after Punk v. Undertaker, this would be a great way to go.
Posted By: Duncan (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:47 PM
i know it cant be for the gas,rey smoking a little kendrick?
Posted By: Showster (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:47 PM
...and with the 30 day "champion must defend his title" clause...the belt will be put up in a tournament that Dolph wins?? FULL of win!
Posted By: Empire Of Ownage (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:47 PM
Too bad for Dolph Ziggler, but I suppose he need new challengers.
Posted By: Guest#5693 (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:47 PM
Poor the kids. First Jeff goes the Rey Rey gets banned, who will the little uns get excited by now on Smackdown?
Posted By: British Bullfrog (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:47 PM
Why can't they suspend guys for a "bad at pro-wrestling" policy? Oh wait, they don't have one...
Posted By: Lucius (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:47 PM
Took long enough to catch that 'roider.
Hopefully they legalize steroids soon or all sports will suffer.
Posted By: Champ (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:47 PM
This is how it is done TNA. If somebody is caught with something, you take care of it. Not trying to defend your champion who was caught with HGH in his car. Prescription or not, he admitted to having it, so their drug policy is flawed, like all sport's leaugues are, but WWE is atleast doing something about the situation.
Posted By: TNA? (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:48 PM
They got the good weed in LA. Guess him beating Dolph doesn't seem like such a good idea anymore. Way to be a role model to all the kids!!! Viva la suspencion!
Posted By: Guest#3507 (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:48 PM
No wonder he has been wrestling so well lately! He's been high!
CM Punk! Free him of the Intercontinental Title and his vices!

...and NEEEWWW IC Champion...DOLPH ZIGGLER!
Obviously, Rey Rey needed to fill the void of Jeff Hardy's absence.

hahahaha! You suck Rey!
Posted By: Nick (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:50 PM
Looks like those roids gave him the 619.
Posted By: Cesarmania (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:51 PM
Rey Rey was probably caught on the juice and god knows those those guys love their weed.
WWE should take this opportunity to elevate Ziggler to the IC title and then have him start a feud with BRYAN DANIELSON that would be cool.
Posted By: RVD (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:51 PM
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA guess they shoulda put the title on Dolph after all!!!

Effective next Wednesday, eh? I guess we know who's jobbing the belt away on the Smackdown tapings next week.
Beyond that, isn't this his second violation? I could have sworn he was on the signature pharmacy list...
Posted By: Raptor (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:58 PM
yay the zig is gettin the title ....man they shoulda given him a better name
Posted By: mazzacare (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:58 PM
Damn, so what happens now with Dolph Ziggler? They can't just give him the belt. He needs that big win over a big name superstar to win the belt.
Posted By: King Tony (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:59 PM
Just put a mask on Hornswoggle for the next 30 days and the 6 year old Rey Mysterio fan base probably won't know any difference. Of course they may wonder why Rey seems a bit taller

This means two things: Ziggler is getting the title next SmackDown and Rey really has taken Jeff's spot. Also, expect a feud with Punk
Posted By: Slick Rick (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 08:00 PM
Really? Rey Mysterio of all people? I guess we know who'll win between him and Ziggler coming up.
Posted By: Kristian (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 08:00 PM

Rey, did you learn anything from Eddie and Benoit?
Posted By: Guest#2700 (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 08:03 PM
It sucks, because Rey Mysterio has had such a resurgence this year. Now, his feud with Dolph Ziggler will end because of a suspension and not because Ziggler would win the IC Title at Breaking Point. But look for Dolph to score the strap at the SD tapings next week.

Posted By: Guest#8733 (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 08:06 PM
I guess this means that no matter who you are, you will be suspended.
Posted By: Apolo Marshall (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 08:08 PM
Wonder what CM Punk has to say about that!
Posted By: Guest#8363 (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 08:08 PM
Boo-urns, that sucks big time. Very disappointing. He has been having such a good year too. At least Dolph zigler will be able to jump right in and take the IC title at the smackdown tapings. But, who will he face at breaking point? No chance of the match options being as good as dolph vs mysterio.
Posted By: Guest#1299 (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 08:08 PM
I guess in hindsight, he should have dropped the belt of SummerSlam even though I thought it was a good decision to keep it on him to help further the "belt". Now I hope that they don't hot shot it to some midcard guy that isn't ready for the belt thus bringing the belt back down again.
Posted By: Industry (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 08:08 PM
I did it for Eddie.
Posted By: Rey Mysterio (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 08:09 PM
Wouldn't it have been better for everyone if he dropped the title, then announce his suspension?
Oh and WTF? Rey? Maybe a few years ago when he was really packing on the mass, but he looks fine now. That sucks, but like J Hardy, they're not gonna de-push someone whose masks are on hundreds of kids at shows.

Rey has a HUGE younger fan base that makes WWE a small fortune off of merch. I'm surprised they didn't fake an injury like they did with "The Animal".

From WWE.com: In accordance with WWE's Wellness Program, effective Wednesday, September 2, Oscar Gutierrez (Rey Mysterio) is suspended for 30 days for a violation of the company's policy.
September 2nd. They don't need to strip him. He still has one more Smackdown til it begins
Posted By: Jeremy from Palmdale (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 08:17 PM
If the suspension is effective next Wednesday, that probably means he'll drop at the tapings on Tuesday night. We'll see how this plays out.

Actually, they should think of having a quick 4 man tourny for the IC title and pull the swerve by having the face beat Dolph in the final to create a new "chase" for the belt.
Posted By: Industry (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 08:23 PM
Amazing he didn't get caught before last week's Summer Fest! Think it has anything to do with him being huge among Latin fans here in SoCal. Naahhh
Posted By: Brawler (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 08:26 PM

Actually Mr. Let's Bash TNA, it was WWE that let Randy Orton off the hook for breaking the wellness policy, because they said as long as you admit you are doing the drugs you don't get in trouble.
So before you bash TNA for keeping Kurt Angle with prescription drugs, you should take a look at your WWE for keeping Randy Orton for illegal drugs because he "admitted" he was doing them.

So... is there still doubt the WWE is serious about their testing policies now? If there is one guy I would think they would not want to suspend on the Smackdown brand (especially in light of Hardy's leaving), it would seem to be somebody like Rey.
Anyway, here's hoping he takes care of whatever problem he was suspended for and comes back strong.

Yeah, because a 5'5", 165 pound guy with about .4% body fat is natural. It's a wonder he didn't get popped for this much, much sooner. His body frame should only hold about 130 pounds, which is part of the reason his knees are destroyed (the other part is obviously the style he worked) and why he's always hurt (see: Batista, Dave).
Posted By: Wyatt Beougher (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 08:59 PM
This is Rey's FIRST violation, it's Chavo who was caught last time. Rey's had some great matches this year so it's very devastating. Hopefully this will just give him some well needed family time and not lead to anything bad. Ever since Funaki was caught I think anything like this. That or HHH pissed in his cup ; P

damn it was such a good year for him :/
Posted By: Guest#0206 (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 09:03 PM
ziggler was going to win the stupid title at the ppv anyway. all this does is speed up the date by 2 weeks.
as far as rey goes, hopefully he will learn his lesson and be sure to follow the policy.
ziggler has a 30 day suspension on his record as well from last year.

NOO !!!!! NO !!!!
Posted By: Mexican Kid (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 09:19 PM
I'm calling it now... Punk takes out Rey so the kids hate him even more after taking out Jeff. Title is vacated, Dolph defeats Finlay and Knox on the PPV. Rey comes back in 30 days and wants his belt back. Dolph beats him then.
Posted By: Rich (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 09:32 PM
Marijuana use results in a $1000 fine without and suspension based on past alleged reports. They seem to only go for the pot smokers once they start being loud about it(see RVD, Kendrick). So my money is on the "substance" being something a bit more dangerous.
Posted By: Mikey MiGo (Registered) on August 27, 2009 at 09:42 PM
All signs point to the sticky icky. Rey can hang out with RVD during his down time.

I think most people were enjoying Dolph Ziggler's rise to the Intercontinental Championship (I for one was), but it looks like WWE is going to have to change up a few things to account for Mysterio's absence. I'm curious to see how they push him when he comes back.
"Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Mr. Ziggler have a wellness offense also?"
Posted By: Guest#8884 (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 10:04 PM
Yes, Ziggler was suspended for 30 days for his first violation of WWE's Wellness Program policy on October 10th, 2008.

Posted By: Justin (Guest) on August 27, 2009 at 07:45 PM
Well you ARE mistaken, Justin. He received 30 days, not 60, so it is his first violation.
And how in the fuck does anybody know what it was that caused this? All these rehab remarks before the facts come out. The only REHABS here are the giddy little goofballs jumping all over this with their unintelligence. Back to the basement, boys.
Posted By: Devin (Guest) on August 28, 2009 at 07:27 AM
WWE doesn't suspend for marijuana. They fine you repeatedly, job you out and then fire you (TBK anyone?)
Rey probably was using pain killers... as for the douche bags comparing this to Angle, you know steroids DO serve a legitimate medical function, and Angle has CHRONIC neck injuries, it's not surprising he'd have a perscription for that, but you go on believing any charge that's levelled against anyone automatically... jerks.
Posted By: M:-X (Guest) on August 28, 2009 at 08:13 AM
Just put Hornswoggle under the mask until Rey can come back or Bryan Danielson.
I kid.

Who's that getting oh so high
R-E-Y
Mysterio
Here we go
That's crazy. And it sucks for SmackDown cos two of their biggest kid-friendly babyfaces are gone for the time being. They're lucky they brought Taker back when they did.

Bring in Kaval(Low-Ki)... put him under the mask and have him be evil Rey!

Who wants to bet that Vince planted drugs on Mysterio just to get the IC title onto Ziggler? That'll teach you to play politics, Rey...

I had an inkling he was juicing. Have you seen how swollen Rey-Rey has been lately?

The only man worthy of such a title is the man who brought out the Honk O Meter!

What a joke this is. Are they suspended with pay? I not, if I were these guys I would be really upset about Batista and Cena, because the wellness policy obviously doesn't apply to them.

Suprised it took so long. Anyone who's followed Rey's career in ECW, WCW then to WWE can tell that he's been one of the more blatent juice guys plus after his last knee injury/surgery he was reportedly told by doctors to never wrestle again so he's probably taking some pain pills as well.

Rey, You see... You should have gone to TNA or wrestling back in Mexico.
Or perhaps you should have locked into a LONG term contract like the way WWE was intending. Now they are relentless in suspending anyone not named Triple H
