2002-Eric Bischoff awarded Triple H the new WWE Raw World title

And wrestling has sucked since then.

Wasn't this also the day Flair won the title from Savage in Hershey, PA in 1992?

Amazing to think WCW never put their logo on the belt, so they were just able to use the same one to see if it took off. When it did, they made a new, shinier replica with the WWE logo at the top.

So, it's been seven years since the WWE title has been disputed. It's funny how the WHC means more now than the WWE title, which is sadly a child's toy since Cena changed it in '05.

Notice how the strap on the WCW/WHC belt has been shorten compare to the previous year. That's why it looks so odd in that clip. When The Rock was WCW champ, the strap was much longer. I guess they had to trim the strap so it would fit in the briefcase. However, the next two Big Gold belts would have the normal WWE size straps.

That was in yesterday's "Today in Wrestling History", I believe. Maybe the date was wrong on it and it was today (I don't know) but I know I saw it yesterday

To this very day I STILL maintain that simply AWARDING Triple H the WWE Title was A TERRIBLE IDEA. Not so much because the idea of Triple H being champion is a bad thing (let alone the fact that his late 2002-2003 title runs marked the PEAK of his backstage politics abuses), but wouldn't he have gained more credibility by WINNING THE BELT the old fashioned way?

In retrospect, Eric Bischoff SHOULD have announced an 8 man tournament for the new belt on RAW, with the Finals being held at Unforgiven. RVD and Triple H advance to the Finals, have the same Title match they had at Unforgiven, and Triple H wins the WWE Title THE OLD FASHIONED WAY when Ric Flair turns on RVD. Triple H and the new WWE Title INSTANTLY have more credibility than they ever did following the INEXPLICABLE booking on Monday Night RAW.

Then again, the following months would see the Katie Vick angle, the COMPLETE BERRIAL of RVD, Scott Steiner being pushed as a Main Eventer, one of the weakest WrestleMania Title feuds of all time (Booker T was ALWAYS treated as an afterthought in his feud with The H's), a visibly broken down (and shell of his former self) Kevin Nash being pushed as a main eventer, and Goldberg not QUITE catching on the way McMahonagement hoped he would. Come to think of it, Eric Bischoff awarding the WWE Title to Triple H may have been THE VERY MOMENT that Monday Night Raw JUMPED THE SHARK until 2004-2005.

It amazed me how for a couple of years they actually put over the WHC stronger than the WWE title... especially considering it was basically the WCW title. Shows you the political power of HHH.

Nowadays the WHC seems to be treated as the experimental title belt... though this is a good thing because as of late the WHC scene on smackdown has blown the 'old guard' of RAW WWE title out of the water.
