ROH Glory By Honor 8 Results, Live Thoughts and Farewell Speeches!
Posted by John De Large on 09.27.2009

-Homicide is in attendance! He responds to the "Fuck TNA," chants with some "suggestive gestures."

-Danielson signed a cartoon that my buddy Charlie drew - for free!

1. Colt Cabana d. Rhett Titus via Inverted Boston Crab.
-Some comedy spots were mixed in, including the use of the ref to perform a wishbone groin stretch. Titus got much heat.

2. Dark City Fight Club d. Cheech and Cloudy via powerbomb and neckbreaker combo.
-This one wasn't bad, but it overstayed its welcome a little bit. Dark City Fight Club was way over.

3. Claudio Castagnoli d. Kenny Omega via low blow and stiff European uppercut.
-Claudio hit an no handed Airplane Torture Rack. Dude, you're sick.
-Kenny survived two Cough Drops (press uppercuts) to hit the Hadouken and stop Claudio cold. Kenny then went for an Electric Chair, but Claudio grabbed the ref, slid off and low blowed Kenny, leading to the finish. Omega got a standing O for his efforts.

-Bret Hart is out to make a speech. He sucks up to New York, saying that he was made here and pays homage to matches with friends Curt Hennig and others who "aren't with us anymore." In short, he loves NYC and loves his dead friends.

4. Roderick Strong d. Sonjay Dutt, Grizzly Redwood and Delirious via a sick Tiger Bomb on Sonjay.
-Roderick Strong kicked the shit out of everybody. Bryan Danielson may endorse Davey Richards as the new/next Best In The World, but I think he should've endorsed Strong too.

-Ring Of Honor returns to New York on December 19, when they present Final Battle 2009 in the Hammerstein Ballroom.

5. The American Wolves d. Kevin Steen and El Generico via belt retrieval.
-Lots of big bumps through lots and lots of stuff. Chairshots were kind of weak though. Big spots include a sunset bomb off the top of a HUGE ladder and into a table and Generico's plancha through an open ladder, plus Steen falling off a ladder into another ladder and a table. Eddie Edwards was way over, likely because the crowd knew he was working a broken elbow.
-Sadly, no Package Piledriver or Brainbustaaah.

INTERMISSION

6. Chris Hero d. Eddie Kingston via loaded roaring elbow.
-Hero without his goofiness and without Larry Sweeney is basically just a wrestler who hits hard and doesn't do anything else to interest me (or the crowd since they were mostly dead). I liked Kingston, though.

7. Aries d. Petey Williams via count out after a Brainbuster on the floor.
-Petey cannot cut a face promo to save his life!
-Crowd openly booing this match at one point. Everybody woke up for the super Canadian destroyer though.

-Jim Cornette is here! He cuts a promo, puts over ROH and dispels rumors over why he was let go from TNA. He never cursed anyone out, but was let go because he could not support Vince Russo 100% (kayfabe? shoot?). He said he is an executive producer for ROH on HDNet and assured us we will never see Leprechauns beating up grown men or men holding womens title. Aries come out and they yell at each other. Cornette promises that Aries will defend the title against real competition from now on, Aries promises to get him fired.

8. Young Bucks d. Briscoes via More Bang For Your Buck (Rolling firemans carry, 450 and moonsault).
-Briscoes had 90% offense in this match, despite the loss.
-That finish was awesome.

9. Bryan Danielson d. Nigel McGuinness via triangle choke and USB elbows.
-This match wasn't a 5 star match and at points it seemed like both men went on autopilot, but both men (Danielson especially) still showed off they're among the top two talents today and why they've been picked up by WWE. There was lots of chain to start, then lots of strikes and then Danielson got busted open on the outside (in a throwback to their Unified match, with the roles reversed), before the falsies (plenty of lariats) and the finish.

-Afterward, Nigel put over ROH and owner Cary Silkin, as well as jokingly calling Danielson a "clam digger," before putting him over as well and crediting Danielson as ROH's best wrestler.

-Then Danielson got on the mic and thanked everybody, but also insisted that the best matches from this year weren't his. Danielson claimed that The American Wolves, Roderick Strong and Austin Aries (who he deemed his best rival) were all having better matches than him.

-Danielson then thanked Cary Silkin for taking ROH and "pulling it from the rubble."

-Danielson then thanked Nigel for being the best opponent he has ever fought and thanked Todd Sinclair for being the best referee ever, claiming that the two traveled together everywhere. Danielson even put over the doctor in the back, stating that he loves him too.

-Danielson also said that ROH is his favorite place to have ever wrestled and as his last request he wants the fans to always support ROH, even after he and Nigel are gone. Danielson says that without ROH he would've been another wrestler doing boring rest holds.

-Some guys in the audience shouted for Danielson to punch Cena in the ear to which he responded "I'll walk right up to that sonuvabitch and....!" (cocks fist) to THUNDEROUS laughter and applause. This prompted a "He's Gonna Get His Fuckin' Head Kicked In," chant. Danielson's response this time: "Not if I can't see him!" (makes gesture)

-Finally, Danielson requested that Final Countdown be played one last time and thanked everybody again.

-If you'd like, listen to the farewell speeches from both here. Skip to about 2:50 in.

this report reaks of smarkiness.

it's this type of 'cooler then everyone else cuz we know roh' attitude that ruins the fun time of going to an ROH show.

i doubt people were chanting boring during an aries/petey williams match.
who knows, maybe they were

Danielson and Nigel are going to breakout big in WWE

Yea, couldnt have been because they jus saw LADDER WAR 2!
Idiot.

I was there.. people weren't BOOing the Petey Williams/Aries match. We were just disinterested because Petey didn't have a chance. We all started chanting TWINKIES at Todd Sinclair every time he counted.
1 TWINKIE!
2 TWINKIES!
3 TWINKIES!!
4... you get it.
The SUPER Canadian Destroyer was INSANE and caught everyone off guard.

I don't get any of the hype for Eddie Kingston.

I didn't think the show was GREAT... rather it was just good. I'd give it a 7.5/10. It was marathon of a night though.

Sarah Palin will give Barack Obama a lap dance on the steps of the capital before I get behind Vince Russo

"Danielson and Nigel are going to breakout big in WWE"

ROFLMAO

Yeah, Vince is really gonna push a guy that doesn't even weigh 200 pounds and has probably never taken a steroid in his entire life. Epic lulz.

CM Punk would like to say Hello

Posted By: Guest#2258 (Guest)  on September 27, 2009 at 08:48 PM

i think danielson intentionally had a less than stellar match precisely because of his endorsement of richard and ROH as a whole. If Danielson leaves with the best match on a card that had Ladder War 2 and Young Bucks v Briscoes, why would people want to keep watching ROH when it's best talent is gone?

I wanted to avoid the spoilers, but I think it's going to be impossible this week.

Anyway, they've got my money. Sounds tremendous.

Good show, horrid report. The Bret comments were ignorant.

Gosh, CM Punk weighs *more* than 200 pounds. Not to mention (yes, I know he's straight edge) he certainly has a WWE looking body.

Outisde of the "ignorant," comments, what's so horrid, Jay? (If that is your real name)

Posted By: John De Large (Registered)  on September 28, 2009 at 09:43 PM

He devceloped his body into what he looks like today. He was quite skinnier when he had his tryout match....
