WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2010 Features Announced

The Royal Rumble is back! We also have two NEW things to announce!
I promised you I'd be back with more SmackDown vs Raw 2010 info, and back I am! We've got a couple of game modes and a nice new feature to tell you about today, plus...gameplay video!
First up, new this year is the WWE Rivals feature. A snap to use, it lets you choose up to 5 allies and 5 enemies for every wrestler, created or pre-existing, in the game. The only restriction is that they be the same sex. You can also set the intensity for the rivalry or friendship. These modifiers are then used to determine when, if and how the wrestlers selected will perform run-ins to save or screw you. You will have the option to turn interference off, and even if you leave it on there's no guarantee that anyone will run in during any given match. Minor issue: these settings only affect exhibition matches (which I hardly ever use). THQ says the interloper will come in with a finisher icon and be able to break pinfalls, use a weapon or just kill you with the finisher. As with previous games that featured run-ins, after a pre-determined amount of damage to the active wrestlers or the runner-in, they go to the outside.
So what are the new game modes? First one is the Royal Rumble, which is hardly new but is newly announced. The second one is the Championship Scramble, WWE's well-received new match concept that pits multiple people against each other, with the last person to get a pinfall or submission before the predetermined time limit being declared the champion. Head to Gamespot to see the Championship Scramble in all its glory.
Finally, for people like me who keep track of this, I believe 2010 may have set a record fast time for the roster being outdated, as Jeff Hardy is in the game. Still buying though, aren't ya?!
"Jeff Hardy is in the game. Still buying though, aren't ya?!"
I don't think you can buy from him any more, they caught him:(((

Haven't bought a Smackdown game since SVR 2007. The current wrestlers mean nothing to me, it all depends on the legends, as they are the only ones I moght play as. Most of my gameplay is with created wrestlers. I don't care about missing Stone Cold, because I'm not going to pre-order. But if you have to do the same thing to get other legends, like The Rock, then this game will probaly just be another one I skip.

scramble!!!!

Once again, the stables/enemies feature means NOTHING for the GM/Season/Career/Whatever modes.
THQ should do better than that!!

If I remember correctly, you could set the Friend/Rivalry thing in either Smackdown 1 or Smackdown 2.

I was under the impression that this game is supposed to allow the fans to recreate the fueds they see on TV, not just be roster-accurate. No Jeff vs Punk would be a shame after the fued they just had if I'm honest.
Still, Kennedy, Umaga and Kendrick I fear are there to exploit their copyright on those characters for one more year. I myself have no problem with seeing the Kennedy character one more time, but the others I don't really feel should be there much as I understand why they're there.
JBL as I'm aware is being entered as a WWE Legend, which should get round the whole 'brand active' status. Could even be a free agent.

They have a free agent roster now, to go alongside Raw, Smackdown, ECW, Legends and WCW. So they've covered themselves with the releases.

SCRAMBLE MATCH FTW!

That was a good one at the end with Jeff hardy problem is their rosters are outdated every year and pretty much it was only funny to the writer. But everyone has to get their shots in when they can and it was a good one. Atleast til the next wrestler screws up, unless its a midcard or lower guy then it doesnt matter much.

why are people creaming for the scramble?
its just the hardcore time limit from here comes the pain which they removed cuz they're assholes

They had a Scramble-like hardcore match in one of the earlier PS2 games and it was easily the most played match type in my house. You had to pin the "champion" though and when that little arrow appeared over your head the other five would just bumrush you.

You don't need it in other modes. Road To Wrestlemania mode is a set story, so run-ins are predetermined. The Story Editor has you decide who will run in and who will not, so it is not needed there. The only place where it even could make sense coming into play is Career mode, which we haven't been given details about yet.

So the Scramble match is basically just a reworked Hardcore Challenge or whatever it was they had in the game circa 2000 where you had a 15-minute time limit and then kept trying to avoid being pinned if you were champ? Glad to see they're able to pillage old ideas and sell them off as being new.
Like Madden, this is a rental and nothing more.

Not to mention WM2K and No Mercy for N64...

that rivals feature sounds like what they used to use for wrestlemania 2000/no mercy

well since the scramble match, is a "new" creation in the WWE (which is like the hardcore scramble that they did one time, hence why it was dropped from the game after that ONE time)then yes technically this is new. the difference between the scramble and the hardcore scramble. Is that you can pin anyone not just te champ, it isn't hardcore and it's six not ten guys.
