WWE News: WWE on ESPN, Title Change Notes, Jeff Hardy Still Top Seller, More
Posted by Larry Csonka on 10.06.2009
Lots of WWE news…
- 2009 has been a busy year for "world" title changes in WWE. The WWE Title has changed hands 7-times, while the World Title has changed hands 8-times. [Credit: Pwinsider.com]
- On WWE Shop's top sellers list, Jeff Hardy and/or The Hardys control five of the top 10 spots, taking #1, #5, #7, #8 and #8. John Cena takes spots #2, #3, and #6, while DX takes the last two spots, #4 and #10. it should be noted that the Hardy merchandise is not being sold at a discounted price. [Credit: Pwinsider.com]
- Just in time for the fall season, WWE is selling new WWE Superstars beach towels.
- WWE got a ton of coverage on ESPN, due to Ben Roethlisberger's appearance on Raw. Clips were shown on Sports Center and ESPN's First Take. WWE wanted to get the "Sports Center Moment" and they got it.
- WWE.com has a new section on the website, highlighting the Championship Reigns of Randy Orton. You can check that out here.
Yeah yeah yeah...
They wanted a Sportscenter moment... because they have tried so hard to convince the world they ARE NOT a sport.
Screw WWE.. wrestling isn't near as good as it once was.

I thought this would say that despite his current legal problems, Jeff Hardy is still distributing.

Thats too many title changes

While WWE won't beat WCW's record 19 title changes in a year (2000), they can grab the coveted 2nd place with 1 more World Title switch. There's still 3 more PPVs and a broken down Undertaker. Meethinks it can be done.

Oh and one more thing, if we're counting ECW's "World Title" and add them all up into one belt, instead of a dychotomy, WWE has equaled WCW's nefarious 19 title switches. But thats being a little too cynical, even for me.

Interesting information for Orton's first title win. As the summery does not mention Benoit, but the full article does.

WWE title's been rotating between 3-4 people on RAW, whereas SD has had variety.

ROTFL, a junkie non-contracted wrestler still sells more crap than Vince's loverboy JOHN CENA.

The old attitude era was simply the best, can they not try bring it back? Stables, minstry, corporation and the good old dx. U had a good few titles, crusierweight, hardcore, european! U had kane in a mask, keeps suspicion, now it is trully bad!!! Change is good!

Guess who isn't mentioned in Randy's various title victories?

Nevermind, I didn't read the full article.

the last time the World Heavyweight Title stayed around someone's waist for more than 3 months?
Prior to WrestleMania XXIV.
It's abysmal how frequently the WHT in particular has changed hands in the last 2 years, and it's slowly starting to kill the belt.

This is why I switch to UFC. WWF wasn't what it used to be.

Christ, quit all your bitching. Wrestling will never be "the same" as you remember when you were younger. And I bet kids now will feel the same way in 10 years, that it was so much better back when Cena was running crazy all over Raw "back in the day." Shut up shut up shut up. Oh, and the guy who said thats why I watch UFC - how many fights did Lesnar have before he won the belt? 2? Maybe it was 3? Yea, that's good. Then he'll lose and disappear forver and someone else will be huge for 6 months and leave. That's a better way to market guys right? That'll be great for long-term business.

You guys were just asking for joke comments with the headline "Jeff Hardy still top seller"

I agree with the first part, people do needto stop bitching about the fact that it will never be the same. You dumbasses have to, at some point in your life, realize that everything in this world changes. Nothing can stay the same or go back to the way it once was. If it tries to go back to the way it once was, it's never the same.
And now my problem with what you wrote. You don't watch UFC much do you? I'm gonna assume you're just going to shrug and shake your head. Yes, Lesnar was pushed faster than most people, but he actually has the beastly talent to get in the octagon and destroy bitches. You have to remember that UFC isn't a booked outcome, it's a booked match. This is an actual sport where anyone can win. And what if Lesnar gets beat and loses the title? He'll do what everyone else does and try to work his way back to his former glory.

Didn't the WWE Title change hands eleven times in a calendar year during the Attitude era?

yup. and for what its worth again 3 days into the new year after... starting the taint that is HHH's title count. Seriously, he's been handed belts what 3 times? and been "screwed" 2 or 3 more only to win again just to jack his belt count. No wonder these titles don't mean much anymore.

When it's a real sport, if someone beats your star they immediately become a star themselves. That's why real sports are more fun than boring WWE pre-determined outcomes. In actual sports, when it comes down to it, it doesn't matter what a bunch of nerds says SHOULD happen, they play the games/have matches for a reason.

I liked WWE better when there were more roided out monsters!

Even in 1999 when the WWF title changed hands 12 times it felt like a big deal because each title change was treated like a big deal.
In 2009 the WWE title (the original and MAIN world title) has changed hands mid show on all 7 occasions.
Thats right the WWE title hasn't even changed to end a PPV or even a FRIGGIN episode of Raw. No wonder it seems like a mid-card belt.

WWE is now using TNA tactics. Are they in that bad shape?
