He was a great manager...and especially a great heel manager. My first memory of him is managing the Wild Samoans. What a pairing that was.

If Lou hadn't met Cyndi Lauper, no Rock N Wrestling Connection, and probably no Wrestlemania. Huge figure in the sport. To an easy rest, Captain.

When I was a kid, I wasn't even into wretling. But like alot of kids at that time, I used to watch the Super Mario Super Show every afternoon. And while the cartoons were lame as hell, the segments with Lou playing Mario still hold up as great nostalgia. I always had a soft spot for the guy because of them. Very sad news.

To understand what was lost one must have a clear understanding of what this man meant to the wrestling we all seem to slag day in and day out.

He was the greatest heel manager of ALL TIME - yes, better than Heenan.

This man could draw heat in a freezer.

RIP Capt Lou - there will never be another like you.

And to all of the comments.. Please, take a serious look at donating towards his medical expenses. If only as a final "Thank You" for all the memories.

Love him or hate him, he was one of the all time greats.

RIP Captain Lou- The Greatest Tag Team Manager of all time.
You'll never get the credit you deserve for making wrestling mainstream in the 80's.
Without "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", we would have never had the MTV connection which lead to Rock N' Wrestling.

I ask everyone to watch him cut a promo. They don't make them like that anymore.

I want to sent my condolences to Captain Lou. He reminds me of my childhood in the '80s when he was with the WWF, Cyndi Lauper and the 'Rock and Wrestling' cartoon. From all accounts, a larger than life man with his charity works, and his great (55 years plus) contribution to wrestling. Thanks Lou, we will miss you from the UK.

Most remember the 80's stuff, but in 70's WWWF, he was a true bad-ass heel manager with the Valiant Bros, (talk about drawing heat), BlackJacks, Executioners, etc. I remember him absolutely destroying Arnold Skaaland with the Manager of the Year trophy, something Heenan did to him a decade later. A true original.

Posted By: Guest#3700 (Guest)  on October 14, 2009 at 03:38 PM

Since Lou was from Westchester, his death was reported on the local news. I wonder where his funeral is being held, if it's local I might try to stop by if he is waked (but by the sound of them collecting money, I wonder if they have enough for a proper funeral). I'd bet alot of his friends in the business will be there.
I was a kid during the 80s but got into wrestling more in 1990, so I only knew of him from the Super Mario Bros show, but since having viewed all the old stuff, realize how important he was. From his in-ring career to his legendary days as manager.
RIP Captain Lou the world's greatest manager.

One of the only people in the wrestling business that you will not hear anybody have a bad thing to say about. About the worst thing you could point out was that he was not on great terms with Vince McMahon in his later years. Although that's not really a bad thing in my opinion. RIP Captain Lou, you were always a class act.

A legend lost, but never forgotten. Thanks for the moments and memories, Captain Lou.

And through all of our bickering and aruging in the comment sections of 411mania, it's always nice to see the civility we can show when the time truly calls for it. In the end, it's just professional wrestling. We can debate things with heated passion, call each other names, and hurl insults at each other without hesitation. But when something happens that is bigger than the industry, it's nice to see the class that damn near everyone shows.

Every once in a while you hear about a death of a celebrity that really bothers you. I mean REALLY bothers you. Don Knotts and John Ritter come to mind for me. Captain Lou Albano's passing is another one of those deaths that is another one of those. He was without a doubt one of the most colorful and entertaining personalities not only in professional wrestling, but also in mainstream entertainment. Who could forget his memorable turn in the movie Bodyslam? Rest in Peace, Captain Lou.

I was 7 years old and got my LJN Captain Lou Albano wrestling figure for Christmas. He was one of the greatest talkers in our sport, on the same lines as a Flair & Piper. Remember the commercials...call 1-900-909-4LOU ? I sure remember them because my parents got a phone bill with about 20 calls to that # for .99 cents a minute, and the calls lasted at least 5 minutes each. How about Capt Lous History of Music on the WWF Wrestling Album cassette tape I had? Him and George Steele singing...can you imagine that? Of course later in my childhood was The Super Mario Bros Super Show...and yes, "Do the Mario, take one step and then again, come on its time, Do the Mario" This guys seen more in 5 years then I'll ever see in my entire life. God Bless you Capper.
