WWE News: Latest On Linda's Senate Run, Lawler Comments On Losing Election, Orton/Cena Continues, More
Posted by Ashish on 10.17.2009

- The Hartford Courant has a story up about how WWE had several YouTube videos featuring some of their racy angles from over the years removed due to copyright infringement. These videos were being used by the Connecticut Democratic Party against Linda McMahon in her Senate run. The videos included the Katie Vick scene, the simulated rape between Scott Steiner and Stephanie McMahon, and the Edge/Lita live sex celebration.

- And in a follow-up article by the Hartford Courant, WWE claims that the removal of the videos have nothing to do with Linda McMahon's Senate run, and that it's all just a coincidence that the videos that were taken down happened to be the ones being used against Linda McMahon. WWE, of course, has to say this legally or else it would violate federal election laws.

- Jerry Lawler made this statement on his Twitter page after coming in fifth in the Mayor of Memphis election.

"Just wanted to thank everyone-supporters, followers, friends-for their support & kindness the last few months. You are why I love this city!"

- WWE advertised a Undertaker vs. CM Punk Casket Match for the 11/10 Smackdown taping in Sheffield, England during last night's Smackdown in the UK.

- John Cena vs. Randy Orton is being reported as the main event for the 12/30 WWE show at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY.

Before people start whining and crying over the advertisement with Cena vs Orton for 12/30 card, remember that the card is subject to change.

There is no federal election law that requires an entertainment company to allow clips from their show to be available online just because a former board member is now running for Senate. That's one of the more absurd things I've read on this site.

Actually there is a law that says anyone running for public office can use broadcasting to promote oneself but can not censor any broadcasting used against them including "on-the-spot coverage of bona fide news events". This is "to operate in the public interest and to afford reasonable opportunity for the discussion of conflicting views on issues of public importance."

While RAW is not a "news event" it is publically broadcast television and is allowable to be used by opponants of Linda McMahan so technically removing it from YouTube can be seen as hiding the evidence of what they are accusing her of.

The YouTube member has no recourse (they illigally uploaded it) but McMahan's opposition does have recourse and can use the video against her regardless of YouTube.

That is the law the article was talking about

Theres an account on youtube called classicwwevideos
that has a bunch of vids that could embarass Linda McMahon. Either he is jobless or its coincidence or both!

Cena vs. Orton is also being advertised as the dark main event for Raw in Worcester. 11/2

The WWE does not have to defend themselves for removing vids. Not because of election law, but because users should not be posting clips anyway. Vince and co. can just claim copyright infringement.

John Cena is the most powerful Superstar in the universe. He is stronger than Hogna and the Ultimate Warrior combined!

They have EVERY RIGHT to take that stuff down due to COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT.

YouTube has no right to post ANY of that stuff unlees WWE ok's it!

While they can certainly use stuff from RAW against Linda, the opposition must obtain it LEGALLY!

Unfortuantely, I dont see the "E" letting the tapes get into the hands of their opposition without some type of subpoena.
