Hulk Hogan Contemplated Suicide, Laila Ali Saved His Life
Posted by Larry Csonka on 10.21.2009
The Hulkster hit rock bottom….
Hulk Hogan was promoting his new book My Life Outside the Ring in an interview with The New York Daily News. In the article, Hogan says that he considered taking his own life after downing rum and xanax, but that a phone call from Laila Ali prevented that. Hogan claims that he had the gun and his finger on the trigger when Ali called.
He also claims in the book that his ex-wife Linda was an abusive alcoholic that once threatened to beat Nick with a wine bottle.
Proof that not even Hulk Hogan himself can kill Hulkamania.

... honestly, no matter how you feel about Hogan, that would have probably devastated every wrestling fan on this site
Posted By: Joe (Guest) on October 21, 2009 at 01:30 PM
Hogan needs to get his act together.. Seriously.

Man, if that's true, that would have been beyond sad. That would have rocked me to the core, being a child of Hulkamania in the 80s. Wow. That would have been the equivalent to Mickey Mouse or Superman blowing his brains out, you know what I mean? Haunting.
Posted By: Joey. (Guest) on October 21, 2009 at 01:32 PM
He also said the gun was nine foot big and weighed 200 pounds, no... wait... ten foot big, 250 pounds.
Posted By: Bruno (Guest) on October 21, 2009 at 01:33 PM
While I'm glad Hulk is working through his issues, I am inclined to wonder if he'd actually sell for an overdose.
Posted By: Meirsch (Guest) on October 21, 2009 at 01:34 PM
Hope we won't get any jokes from the trolls about blaming Ali for "saving Hogan".....
Posted By: Industry (Guest) on October 21, 2009 at 01:35 PM
Saddest thing I have heard, as a lifelong Hulkamaniac, this is really unsettling. Its sad that people really try to tarnish this mans legacy and downplay the impact he had on the sport itself. We've seen many try to emulate or imatate but there is only one Hulk Hogan.
Posted By: Radtke (Guest) on October 21, 2009 at 01:35 PM
Wow...he must have stopped drinking his milk and taking his vitamins...probably would have no sold it anyway.

Posted By: Alcoholic (Guest) on October 21, 2009 at 01:46 PM
It was close brother! The Hulk was eating his Xanax and hanging and banging with Smith and Wesson when the Greatest's daughter blew in and saved him!
This guy will do anything to sell a book. Calls hus ex wife a drunk! Stay classy Hulk, Stay classy

"Hogan claims that he had the gun and his finger on the trigger when Ali called." what a bunch of bullshit all to sell a book. the truth is hogan actully did pull the trigger, but his massive ego was enough to stop the bullet.
Posted By: the one (Guest) on October 21, 2009 at 01:49 PM
Wow, Hogan hadn't been in the news for a few days. What an attention whore.
Posted By: bigpapa (Registered) on October 21, 2009 at 01:52 PM
I really do feel sorry for the Old Boy, but Hogan has never been a shining beacon of honesty. After hearing so many stories over the years & reading his book a few years back, I aways find myself not believing anything he says.
& I am an old school '84-96 Hulkamaniac.
Posted By: Smooth (Guest) on October 21, 2009 at 01:56 PM
Wow that Hulkster will say and do anything to make money.
I'd like to see him Hulk up after a shot to the head.

I'm sure Linda wasn't the first to suggest that Nick NEEDED to be beat with a wine bottle.

Anyone wanna make a joke about Hogan no-selling Xanax? Or how he refused to job to God?

He also lost his sight, lost his mind, and wished somebody would tell him he's fine.
Posted By: C (Guest) on October 21, 2009 at 02:07 PM
I'm willing to bet that he passed out from the meds, only to wake up with a sudden burst of energy, begin pacing around in circles shaking his head and arms, before wagging his finger at the rum and pills.
Posted By: RB (Guest) on October 21, 2009 at 02:09 PM
I find it hard to believe anything he says.

Looks like rum and xanax join the list of Roddy Piper, Paul Orndorff, Iron Sheik, Rany Savage, Undertaker, Sgt. Slaughter, Yokozuna, Andre the Giant, Ted Dibiase, Psycho Sid, Earthquake, and countless others who have tried and failed to kill Hulkamania. BROTHERRRRR!!!!

I don't by it for a second. The closest this ever came to being real is Hulk thought life sucks then got a call from Ali a week later. The guy has not told more than a half truth in 30 years why would this one be any different. People! Hulk is trying to make money off a new book when Hulk is trying to make money (which is always) don't trust a word that comes out of his mouth.
Posted By: thejyav (Guest) on October 21, 2009 at 02:54 PM
I'm not the biggest Hogan fan by any means, in fact bashing him on a daily basis is the norm for me, but Joe is right. I would have been downright devastated just because of the fact that he seems like such a mentally tough and well fit person and him pulling suicide would have truely been like Clark Kent losing his job and then taking some kryptonite to his dome in his Superman outfit.
Posted By: BROTHER!!!! (Guest) on October 21, 2009 at 02:56 PM
I'd be sad of Hulk offed himself. I was like many a little hulkamaniac and rooted for Hulk Hogan in every match.

Hulkster is full of it. Was when he was "taking his vitamins and saying his prayers" back in the day, and still is now.

Actually I have been wishing for something like that to happen for quite some time.
No I'm not trying to be cool either. I just think that Hulk is one of the saddest excuses for a human being I have ever seen!!!
Posted By: You're DEAD WRONG! (Guest) on October 21, 2009 at 03:20 PM
I can't believe that...the main thing is that he didn't kill himself and hopefully he's in a better place in his life now. Linda an abusive alcoholic? That wouldn't surprise me at all. And she's dating someone old enough to be her son. Age ain't nothing but a number but come on! She ought to be ashamed of herself for the pain she's caused if what Hogan's saying is true.

Wasn't it already posted that, in the book, he claimed that during the Hogan/Andre match that he broke his arm or leg but toughed out the match on adrenaline?
While he might have considered killing himself, I'm sure that the story has been embellished significantly. These are the things desperate people do when they are trying to shill their book.
I really hope the book does poorly.
Posted By: BobbyC (Guest) on October 21, 2009 at 03:47 PM
Kudos to all the "no-sell" jokes. He wouldn't put suicide over (not the TNA wrestler). Actually, the guy doesn't put "the truth" (not Ron Killings) over. I became a wrestling fan because of Hulkamania as a child and it would have been shocking and sad if he did do what he claims he though. However, the man does have a reputation for exagerrating the truth, or just plain lying for publicity. I don't believe his claim. He's just trying to garner interest in his book so he can make some more cash to pay Linda. I do believe his claim she's an alcoholic though. She looks worn out.

It was supposed to be a one shot deal, but Hogan backed out on the offer at the last minute.
Posted By: Smith&Wesson (Guest) on October 21, 2009 at 03:58 PM
If this is true, it's very sad indeed. But Hogan has been known to pimp himself and his own family to gain sympathy, so take everything he says with a grain of salt.
He's become like that movie Memento. When I hear another story come out of his mouth, I feel like I should have a Polaroid of him with "Don't believe his lies" written on it.
Posted By: Guest#0615 (Guest) on October 21, 2009 at 04:03 PM
I don't understand why any rich guy would ever get married after hearing about all these divorces and the rewards these women get afterwards for divorcing. Actually, my female friends tell me they don't understand why any guy gets married (ironically they're all married) and they tell me to just keep screwing young women.

In 5 years, his story will be that a fully lucid Muhammad Ali had called him. 5 Years after that, it'll be the prophet Muhammad. Instead of Xanex and Rum, he'll have been taking suicialis and suicide juice. And the gun will turn out to be a gift from Sylvester Stallone.

Poor guy and what a great friend Laila Ali must have been in his time of need.
I feel so bad for him. Linda Bollea is fucking dirt, lower than low. She is am evil, heartless bitch who might as well drink Terry's blood considering how terrible she is.

All you know is what you've read about or seen on television. Is that really enough to warrant wishing the guy was dead?! What a moron! Typical bullshit response.

In this day and age, I don't quite know what to believe anymore out of anyone. Admittedly, I used to cheer for Hulk Hogan and I used to enjoy his matches but as time wore on and we got into the mid to late 1990s and this decade, it became so clear that he was more media creation than anything else. I'm sure many people would be really sad if Terry Bollea, the human being, were to die or to be killed somehow. Despite the images that these performers leave us with, they are still human beings. And much like all of us, will be judged one day as such. All of his accomplishments in the wrestling industry won't matter in the end. We will all pass on and I'm not going to pass judgement on him as a person since I don't know Terry Bollea. I just hope he is able to put his life back together and move forward. Remember folks, despite the money, the fame, and the prestige that he has garnered over the years, he, like us, is a human being. He is going to err just like the rest of us. Its not our place to pass judgement on him. Let's just live our lives and hope that things work out in the end for everyone. In the end, its better to take the high road than to take the road everyone else is taking and kick someone while they are down.

What is it with the IWC? "Good wrestlers" end up in rehab. Or "good wrestlers" die and it's a tragedy and a "loss for the wrestling world". But because it's Hulk Hogan, we're supposed to laugh at a near suicide. This is the same IWC that spent almost 2 weeks straight doing nothing but penning articles and responses about how tragic the whole affair with Benoit was and how it was such a shock and a "painful time" for everybody and something that would "take time to heal" from.
Just remember that had Hogan gone through with it, Make a Wish and dozens upon dozens of other children-centric charities would have lost a huge supporter and doner. But no one talks about that; just the fact that Hogan didn't have good matches. You know, like Chris Benoit. And Eddie Guerrero. And Jeff Hardy. And Curt Hennig. And Ric Flair. You may notice a trend...

what you people are saying about hulk hogan, you should be ashamed of yourselves. so what if he has money, he also earned by busting his ass 365 days a year. someone contemplating suicide is not a damn joke either. kids around the world who request him for make a wish would be devastated. i would love to find some of you buttheads on here and tell you to your face what i think of you. i met hulk hogan at the steeplegate mall in concord nh. he was there with brooke, linda, and jimmy hart. brooke gave a concert to promote her single she was releasing at that time. afterwards we got to meet brooke, and the hulkster and get there picture and autograph. i also got a autograph from linda and a picture with her while i was holding my 10 month old granddaughter. there had to be at least 5000 people there just to see hulk. so when you bad mouth him, you don't know what the hell your talking about. when other wrestlers talk about the success of hulk it's out of jealousy. he is a good man. so you all can shutup!!!!!!!!!
