TNA Announces The Signing Of Hulk Hogan
Posted by Larry Csonka on 10.27.2009

- TNA released the following statement on the signing of Hulk Hogan:
"Hulkamania" is back! The biggest name in professional wrestling history, Hulk Hogan, is joining Total Non-Stop Action Wrestling (TNA), the fastest rising wrestling organization in the world and home to one of cable television's highest rated shows for young men, TNA iMPACT! The announcement was made today by TNA Wrestling in conjunction with Spike TV at a press conference held in New York City.

"Hulk Hogan is one of the world's top pop culture icons and the biggest superstar in the history of professional wrestling. We are truly excited to welcome him into the TNA family," said Dixie Carter, President of TNA Wrestling. "Our goal is to become the world's biggest professional wrestling company. Hulk defines professional wrestling and we look forward to partnering with him in a variety of ways as we continue to grow TNA globally."

"I'm thrilled to be jumping back into the world of professional wrestling," said Hogan. "My fans have been asking me to return to the business for many years on a full time basis, but the timing or the opportunity has never been right until now. TNA Wrestling is a great company with an already excellent fan base, business and broadcast partner. I firmly believe now is the time for some change at TNA as they are positioned to jump to the next level in their development and I'm here to work with Dixie to help make that a reality."

Through Hogan's partnership with Bischoff Hervey Entertainment Television, the deal with TNA was negotiated by longtime Hogan colleague Eric Bischoff. Additionally, BHE TV has inked a first-look deal with TNA and will be working with the organization to develop new programming extensions of the TNA brand.

"Hulk Hogan adds yet another level of star power that positions TNA iMPACT as Spike TV's version of ‘Must-See TV' on Thursday nights," said Kevin Kay, president of Spike.

Hogan most recently penned an autobiography with Mark Dagostino, "My Life Outside The Ring" with St. Martin's Press.

I love Hogan, but this move is going to sink TNA faster than it was. I hope that people have learned from history and have not given him complete control of his character and angles the way he did in WCW, BRUTHA!!!

didnt 411 ask if tna was turning the corner?
this is a resounding NO!!!

i cant wait to see aj styles get obliterated by a 60 year old, with two bad knees, and a worse back at the next ppv.

"Our goal is to become the world's biggest professional wrestling company"

You know you can reach your goal faster if you have better booking and a better media relations dept and by not getting veteran wrestlers who only care about themselves. Also Dixie have you ever thought of having impact shows in different venues instead of the same goddamn place? You could really grow faster if you do that. I'm just saying.

while i think this is a total waste of time as the man is as limited as kevin nash in the ring, i do think that at least this will be good for tna in terms of live attendance. if hogan does house shows as well as ppvs they he can drive up ticket sales for tna. I remember back in the day in 2006 or 2007 he did a wrestling show and drew 4000 people on his own, so combined with tnas talent and his name, at the very least tna will be able to sell more tickets then usual, but that probably won't make up for the amount of money they are probably paying the smuck

Posted By: Cody (Guest)  on October 27, 2009 at 03:24 PM

It would've been pretty cool if they didn't show the same 2 pictures of Hogan 15 times.

Death of TNA?! Fuck that! Move Impact to Monday nights, pronto! Vince's product is beyond stale, and prime for the fall, and Hogan and Bischoff are gonna kick his ass again, brother! What'ch'ya gonna do, John Cena vs. Triple H part 363, when Hulkamania runs wild on you?!

Vince must be laughing his ass off right now.

Sure Hogan will bring in a few curious folk. But as soon as they see how crippled he is, they'll leave. And they'll take the die-hard TNA fans with them.

All of a sudden - I want Jeff Jarrett back in TNA - heck he is an above average wrestler who lost to AJ on a regular basis.

Im a big Hogan fan. Have been for years. Even when the IFC bags on him so damn much, I am a huge fan. Really.

But mother of GOD the man is way past his prime, beat up and outside of bringing in his personality and whatnot to it, he has no business in the ring these days. If they have him go in and start to dominate like its 1984 all over again, TNA is gonna be making the biggest mistake theyve ever made. I say that without hyperbole.

My reaction to this, was to grab the nearest steamroller, and WRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYmyself for thinking TNA might be heading in a healthy direction

there goes tna.
at first i was like well this is big they now can compete. but then i relize hulk hogan he will politic to the top and guys like aj daniels and joe will lose there main event spots. do u really think hogan will job. he will for a few months then he wont anymore tna will go down hill from now on

what a shame...i watched TNA since 2002 and was hopeful that i would get a true alternative from WWE..and for awhile i did..but now this happens..Hogan is nothing but a piece of trash..who stepped over soo many ppl to get where he is... i've been a wrestling fan as far back as i can remember...and i'm sick and tired of these scumbags ruining wrestling... what a sad day for wrestling..b/c lets not all forget that WWE isn't wrestling anymore it's entertainment

I can see it now, Hogan comes in, beats AJ for the title, puts over NO ONE, wrestles 4 times a year. If TNA wants to beat WWE this is not it. So now folks like AJ, Joe, Daniels, ya know, the FUTURE of wrestling are going to be pushed further down the card. You know WCW went down in a blaze of crap, so why keep hiring the people who made that happen (Russo, Booker, Steiner, Nash, now Hogan)?

Yes!!!!!!! Win, Win, Win!!! Hogan vs. Styles is going to rock twelve kinds of worlds. Hulkamania has lain dormant for far too long. Hogan's gonna drop the leg all over TNA. The hexagonal circle will never be the same.

1) I hope to god they have the sense to keep Hogan as a special attraction a la Lashley. If we see AJ lose a Yappapi Indian Strap Match to Hogan at Genesis, I'm through with TNA

2)A company that usually has the same small crowd of smarks who have been conditioned to cheer AJ, Daniels, Joe and Angle will eat Hogan alive if he dethrones their champion.

3) How long before the inevitable Hogan vs Suicide match?...Too soon?

I hate to break it you Jabronis but noone gives a rats ass about Desmond Wolfe,Eric Young,AJ Styles,Daniels.. this can only be a good thing. Remember they're not just acquiring the biggest name in wrestling, they're getting the business acumen of Eric Bischoff

Yeah. The Independent Film Channel has had an axe to grind with Hogan for some time now. Their bias is borderline ridiculous. I would say they are History's Greatest Monster.

Wow... right before his book comes out and the WWE has a Hulk Hogan DVD ready to be released! I mean, they can't release that DVD Now... can they? Wouldn't that be promoting TNA in the process now too? Well, if this doesn't start getting the WWE angry and ready to pick a fight with TNA, nothing will.

I'm torn.

Don't get me wrong, I loathe the idea of Hogan in TNA, but it has some intrigue:

Absolute Positives:
- Hogan is a name and will attract viewers to TNA. Expect their ratings to jump fairly high (for them) the first couple of weeks.

Potential Positives:
- TNA, like I've mentioned in the past, has a habit of lighting fire under the asses of many "over the hill" performers. Maybe it's the lack of pressure, but people like Nash and Steiner have been better and more entertaining in TNA than they were for YEARS beforehand. They even got Hardy back to his A-Game, which culminated into a great run with WWE (before he blew it -- again). Complain about their booking all you want, but you know I'm right.
If the same thing happens with Hogan, maybe we could see a fresh side to his character. (Probably not, but weirder things have happened)

Potential Problems:
- If Hogan comes in an dominates, TNA is dead. Let's hope that Dixie is smarter than that. Until this, it looked like she was genuine in her desire to build new stars. My hope is that it doesn't come to a screeching halt with this acquisition.
- If they don't book things right, this acquisition will be an expensive and ultimately futile addition to TNA.
- There's the potential that he'll bring in his sluggish friends like Beefcake with him.

Absolute Problems:
- Hogan was not a major ratings draw even when he was facing The Rock. Sure, they had an entertaining program, but after that, things died down. And that was what, 7 years ago?
- Hogan is like 73 years old. He can not go in the ring any more (his own words from a recent interview), so what do they expect to do with him?

My hope in all of this is that Dixie didn't just bring him in for the business side without first considering what the hell to do from a creative standpoint. Because if she did, and they're already having creative issues, things will only get worse.

If he's an on air personality that isn't bad. It's just he can't really wrestle now, some would say ever. TNA needs a better timeslot (against RAW), better booking and better writing. All it takes is a few hot stars and a good angle or two.

Seems like the pot calling the kettle black you bashing on "WWE fanboys" when you yourself sound like a "TNA fanboy." The only good thing out of this signing is TNA getting Eric Bishoff. TNA fans see the writing on the wall though. The old guard of WCW is taking over WWE, there is a boss that knows nothing and is letting those inmates star to run the asylum. AND they see their great hope AJ the new champion doing the job to a guy that can't move that will beat AJ with that big Legdrop. AJ the guy that has been in multiple ultimate X matches and taken huge bumps will job to the big boot and the leg drop. And how weak will the Styles Clash look when Hogan No-Sells it.

If a tree falls in the woods and no one was around to hear it, does it make a sound?

Hulk's jump to TNA is meaningless, dude can't move at all! I watch Brooke knows best.

I love how everyone assumes Hogan is going to be wrestling. Hogan isn't going to be pinning anybody, he isn't going to be competing, he's too old and he knows his body can't handle.

All this does is bring star power and publicity to TNA, but the young talent will continue to be put over.

Smart move by TNA and definitely a step in the right direction.

Well honestly this is a smart move by TNA, WWE has no use for Hogan but TNA could benifit... honestly, Hogan isnt a wrestling name no more he is a C list celb reality show star and a 80's icon, and he is all over the news for the mess of a life and family he has so he gets alot of Enews and ET attention. so it will bring alot of diffrent intrest and advertising to TNA but once TNA hires all his Freinds and Hogan takes the Whole TNA maint event who are barly established and burries them even more, then TNA will be in hige ass trouble...... going over Hogan will not make you a more established star, i mean coem on if AJ beats Hogan would that mean anything? he is 60

I wanna see Joe Vs Hogan,Hogan vs Abyss and Hogan vs Lashley and Hogan vs Angle after that I could care less...

I hope they didnt sign him for more than a year.

I knew this or signing Goldberg was bound to happen sooner or later.TNA played their card with MEM and it didnt work out like they thought it would and depending on the young guys entirely would make them go broke..

I think its smart and signing Bischoff is smarter imo.

Hopefully Hulk wont be around more than a year or year and a half..

oh my this is going to be hilarious

This could be interesting IF it is booked properly.

Now if the stories are true, and Bischoff doesn't have creative power, but Russo does, this could end up being pretty good in the long run. We know that Russo is no fan of Hogan, and wants to push younger talent (even if he has no idea how to do so). If the company gives Hogan any creative control, he will kill the company. But if Hogan can integrate himself with the company without having to take center stage all the time, he could play a valuable role here and there. Don't give him the TNA title, especially not for an extended run. However, he could put over some talent, and there may be some nice fueds. They could have Hogan v. Jarrett, which never got to be paid off since Hogan flaked out on the last run. Hogan v. Joe could be interesting. And I'd love to see Hogan in a KOTM match.

I also hope that this is the move that gets TNA moving to a new level, because lord knows VKM certainly could use the motivation.

This might have been even more interesting if they had done it last year, or earlier this year, so that they could integrate Hogan with the MEM.

This just makes me believe more that the suicide story wasn't true. How convenient that he's joining TNA around the time of a book release!

I'm not anti-Hogan as he was a big part of my wrestling fandom as a child but hopefully his run in TNA is short and he doesn't take the spotlight off AJ, Joe and others...then again, who am I kidding???

After getting so much right over the last month and a half TNA has just fucked everything up. Unless the ancient Hulk Hogan can bolster ratings and PPV buys for TNA this is a horrible idea.

I cant wait for Hogan to drop the leg on Styles, Joe, Daniels, LAX, (TNA"S TALENTED WRESTLERS) Then go thoguh and avenge former losses to Angle, Nash, Steiner, and Jarrett. Then best of all he destroys the OVERRATED Talent like Desmond Wolfe, Eric Young, Thoes British Guys, Daivari, Sucicide and any other guys who WWE realized wasnt talented and wasnt mentioned above ie Elijah, Murdoch I m not sure who else is left. Only to spare Foley out of respect, Stevie (I always liked him and hasnt he jobbed enough) and the only true talent MCMG. He puts Alex and Sabin over before coming back to make real money in front of real fans who know the ones that show up in the thousands to HOUSE SHOWS. Not the ones that can only come in the hundreds to your supposed version of Mania.

"Its not just Hogan.....its WAR HULK HOGAN! LOL! I dont even know where that joke comes from, but Ive always wanted to say that!"

It's in reference to a storyline involving the other Hulk.

Hmm it seems all of you are excited &/or interested

ICON, they really do need him. TNA is doing nothing in a business sense other than getting by. They need something to raise them. Bischoff is a fantastic move.
Bring in Goldberg too. Scrap the six-sided ring. Get a good TV slot, and maybe then I could get interested.

hogan to tna, that is the worst thing ever...not for tna, for hogan, wasting his time in that shit league where all the wwe mistakes and unwanted call home...aj styles, who the fuck cares if he has the belt or not, all you tna fans should be thanking hogan for actually making ppl aware of tna and aj styles..

Maybe they'll just have him in a GM like role? That wouldn't be so bad. Plus I'd take Bischoff over Russo any day, so that's not so bad.

Yeah, of course it's going to be a complete car crash, but I'm trying to be positive. Lol. Just don't drag them down too far Hogan!
