Hulk Hogan Comments On TNA During Larry King Appearance
Posted by Ashish on 10.28.2009
Hulk talks about his TNA role...
Hulk Hogan did talk about TNA for a few minutes during his appearance on Larry King Live last night and footage from the TNA/Hogan press conference in New York City also aired. King asked Hogan if he'd be wrestling for TNA, and Hogan said that he wasn't sure what he'd be doing, saying that his upcoming Australia tour would be a test for him.
Hogan also said that he might do an American Idol-type reality show aimed at finding the "next" Hulk Hogan.
Hogan spent most of the appearance talking about his new book, but TNA being discussed on Larry King Live, even for a few minutes, is major promotion for them.
PWInsider adds that the belief right now is that Hogan will be a regular personality on TNA Impact but will only wrestle sparingly. He may end up in the role of some type of authority figure. Some in TNA remain skeptical as to whether all the hype and publicity being generated by Hogan's signing will actually result in growing the company.

I saw the show, and they browed right over it. Hogan talked more about Australia than TNA.
He also said the big difference from his heyday to now is that there are too many writers backstage and tell people what to say and do; seems like a cryptic dig at Russo to me.
His role will be limited in the ring? When Foley first signed, he was believed to not want to wrestle and only be the on-air authority figure. Six months later he won the TNA world title against Sting.

Enough with the g-d damn authority roles already

What a historic day. Does that mean we could see the long awaited Summerfest rematch of Hogna vs. Earthquale in the future?

Why wouldn't it?
After all, the hype/ publicity worked wonders when they signed Rhyno, Kevin Nash, Team 3D, Jeff Hardy, Booker T, Christian, Kurt Angle, Mick Foley...

This. Everyone says that Hogan's going to cause ratings to skyrocket, but everyone said the same thing about Macho, Nash, Hall, the Dudleys, Christian, Sting, Angle, Booker, the Steiners, Lashley, and Foley. If none of those guys could pop ratings/buyrates, I don't think Hogan will have much effect on it either.
Hopefully I'm wrong, but I don't see it happening.

if tna tries to put on a show on monday nights, wwe and usa WILL just expand raw to 3 hours on a permanent baiss.
usa wants raw to go to 3 hours and vince will really want to stick it to dixie carter for trying to invade his territory.
face it, mcmahon has allowed tna to do its thing on thursdays, draw its 1.1 etc but if this bitch tries to start a war, mcmahon will come back swinging.

Hulk Hogan was his same bullshit fake self-promoting lying self tonight on Larry King. He's such a complete bullshit motherfucker. It's almost sad to even watch him try to put himself and his retard son and derilect daughter over like they are some righteous bible thumping do-gooders.
And when they finally got around to TNA, which WAS the big news of the day, he brushed by it to sort of promote his Australia tour and his half-assed idea to rip off Tough Enough.
Fuck Hulk Hogan. Maybe his presence really will be the nail in the TNA coffin.
Only time will tell.

I Watch TNA From Time To Time, But You Just Lost Me, I Hate Hogan (If He Was On Fire, I Would Not Piss On Him). Sorry TNA, Some Things Should Be Left For Dead. Hogan Is One Of Them.

You know, I have never been that big of a Hogan fan - couldn't care less about the backstage crap that nobody really knows the truth about - just never found him that exciting in the ring (even though I actually liked him more during the early 2000's on Smackdown than during his original Hulkamania run, weird huh?)
Anyway, I actually think this could work out great for TNA if they don't make the focus of the company "All Hulk, All The Time, Brother!" Already the mention on Larry King and the big press conference is probably more positive press than the company has ever gotten. Even Samoa Joe, who seems like the kind of guy who wouldn't hold back his venom if he thought this was a bad deal sounds energized by this news.
I'll admit to being a WWF/WWE lifelong fan, and still say nothing beats a big time PPV by them, but TNA has grown on me as well lately. I'm happy they are growing, and think this COULD work out well for them, if handled properly.
We will see...

I have always HAAAAAAAAAAAAAATED Hogan in the ring (became a fan in '98, don't cry) but man, I can't help thinking he would be awesome as a GM/Commissioner type role. Plus, the self-loathing part of me wants to see him win the TNA belt just because he's Hogan and that's what we expect.
Posted By: Jeremy (Guest) on October 28, 2009 at 01:59 AM
Hogan is embarrasing himself, just like Flair. Time to hang up the tights and fade away.

when larry king asked hulk hogan about tna. he said, "I did what! oh right, i'll be champ by sunday morning brother."

You can see already what Hogan brings to the table simply by how much publicity and write ups his signing has delivered so far..Is it Short lived??..I don't think so...The Hulkster is being placed in a position where his name recognition can really take TNA to the next level...Not only that but what other talents he will be able to draw now that he is signed...I see a renewal of the WWF/WCW wars from the past that will quite possibly make Pro-Wrestling competative yet again...And hopefully give WWE the spark that it once had during the Rock/Austin Attitude era...When I believe it was at it's best..Enough with the PG crap of today..Maybe this move by TNA will do something about that...Let's hope that is the case...

well because Wrestling wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Hogan and Andre and that Hogan is a household name and some old school fans might tune into watch him.

Hogan draws. Good for TNA, I might actually tune in.

Okay, just say for a moment...God forbid...that Hogan were to injure himself while wrestling on this Australian Hulkamania Tour. Then what?

"Hogan also said that he might do an American Idol-type reality show aimed at finding the "next" Hulk Hogan."
It's going to be called Buff Enough and be presented by Al Sharpton and 'Hardcore' Holly Willoughby.
Posted By: Bimmy (Guest) on October 28, 2009 at 07:36 AM
Authority figure?? That's been done a billion fucking times, TNA's lack of ideas strikes again.
How about have Hogan do the American Idol thing within TNA, have him evaluate talent to select a Heavyweight, X Division and Tag Team he'll manage to go after the gold in the company. He can be the mouthpiece for some up and comers, use his status in a positive fashion.
Or they could go the Foley route and ruin any chance they have for growth by sticking the title on the barely mobile legend. I'd go with option A.
Posted By: dennett316 (Guest) on October 28, 2009 at 08:03 AM
"The 'next' Hulk Hogan = The 'next' TNA Champion"
Would you idiots get off it already?
Let's see:
"Booker T = Next TNA Champion" -> WRONG!!!
"Scott Steiner = Next TNA Champion" -> WRONG!!!
"Kevin Nash = Next TNA Champion" -> WRONG!!!
"Lashley = Next TNA Champion" -> WRONG!!!
Outside of Foley, you morons are ALWAYS wrong (and even a blind squirrel catches a nut once in a while)
Also:
2002 - "TNA Won't Last a Year" -> WRONG!!!
2003 - "TNA Won't Last Another Year" -> WRONG!!!
2004 - "TNA Won't Last Another Year" -> WRONG!!!
2005 - "TNA Won't Last Another Year" -> WRONG!!!
etc... etc.. etc...
Seriously, does it hurt to be as stupid as you guys are? It must.
I don't like Hogan in TNA any more than anyone else, but it doesn't spell the end of the company, and it doesn't guarantee that Hogan will be the champ.
But you f***tards figure if you say it often enough, that it must be true, right?
Posted By: Jimbob Jones (Guest) on October 28, 2009 at 08:08 AM
The current generation of fans barely remembers who Steve Austin is. Hogan won't cause a significant, prolonged increase in ratings. I think the Rock is POSSIBLY one of the few who could lead to a prolonged ratings increase.
Then again, it could just be my Rock Markness (c) coming out.

They talked about Hogan's signing as part of the news on the radio today here in Canada....i was surprised because its a top 40 radio and non of them knew what any of it meant.
"Hulk Hogan has signed with Total Non Stop Wresling. TNA for short" ...They are totally getting their name out there with the signing

Oh, my God, quit swallowing the propaganda pill and wake the fuck up. Hogan didn't save wrestling nor did he make wrestling. He just had a hand in the growth of the WWE and helped the company make more money than it already was. He's not some savior that dragged wrestling out of a downward slump and even if he was that doesn't mean he's entitled to whatever the fuck he wants because no matter his contributions, overall, wrestling means shit on the pop culture radar. He WAS a top star. He WAS an entertaining character. He WAS a big draw. He WAS the key to bigger success. WAS! WAS! WAS! Get it through your fucking head.

That was 15 years ago with pro-wrestling in a different climate. You can't seriously expect to recreate the same sort of scenario just because you have a few of the components.
Posted By: His Bubbliness (Guest) on October 28, 2009 at 11:19 AM
I can see it now Hulk Hogan's search for his own replacement only to lose him to a rival manager. So the Hulkster can come back and beat him a no holds barred street fight AKA Rocky.
Posted By: JW (Guest) on October 28, 2009 at 11:26 AM
a reality show?
Hogan will never, EEEEVVVVVEEERRR, allow someone to top him. It's one of the reasons he was/is a blight on the industry. SURE, he's a huge star, but the ability (which was suspect to begin with) has almost gone. He comes from the old school thinking that he holds on to his spot until someone takes it. I can understand why he takes the money, but I'm more upset at the idiots who keep giving him his spot back. Hulk CLEARLY needs to follow the other old school policy and go out and put guys over. considering that a few of the guys who were the "next" hulk (and had the "torch" passed to them by Hogan) have retired, it's clear the Hulkster has no interest in passing anything except the opportunity to put guys over. TNA seemed to be moving in the right direction with the departure of a few older guys (booker, nash, scott steiner) and the arrival of Desmond "Nigel McGuiness" Wolfe. signing Hogan to anything sends a bad message and the impression that TNA really doesn't care about new stars. Perhaps they can coax Verne Gagne, or Harley Race out of retirement, that seems to be the new direction.

Why would people take anything Hogan says seriously? For that matter, why would they take Larry King seriously? He's always been a fucking hack. Him and Hogan are perfect for each other. Softball questions, bullshit answers. That interview was more scripted than wrestling.
Posted By: Guest#8588 (Guest) on October 28, 2009 at 12:32 PM
Hulk Hogan is cool but TNA sucks bad and although WWE isn't too great right now, TNA just appears way too cheap and they have top stars that can wrestle better than WWE's but nobody cares about them TNA is really cheap.
Unless Hogan is world champ nobody is gonna watch cheap ass TNA cuz it sucks. I've seen backyard wrestling matches that look a lot like TNA.

TNA wanted people to talk about them. Mission Accomplished.
This "next Hogan" thing is particularly interesting. They'll generate buzz with their auditions and reality show. What's concerning is that all of the contestants will probably be 6'5" and 300lbs. More than a few of these guys will probably find their way onto the TNA roster, which is bad news for TNA originals.

To me, It seems that Hogan entering into T.N.A. is already having its desired affect. All of these genius Superfans and wrestling aristocrats have had their world turned upside down by having the biggest name EVER in wrestling come into a third rate promotion to make it into a competitive environment. If Hogan draws in some older fans who have given up on wrestling over the years because of a lack of stars and name acts[ lets face it, the E and T.N.A. both have a lack of real big stars to bring in the casual fan] I see it like Mick jagger has decided to become the front man for Papa Roach. A small group of nothing with a few hits and a band full of people who you wouldnt know if they were wearing shirts with their names and pictures on them. In comes the biggest name in the industry and all of a sudden people know who Pappa roach is. Music might be the only analogy that would sink in because the wrestling aristocrats are convinced that Roh can compete with the E on any given day. Even as watered down as the W.W.E. is right now , its still the only show in town....for now. I see Hulk Hogan as being good for T.N.A. And all the collected wisdom of Blackjack Mulligan cant deny that

Wow. Great to see that there are some people in TNA without their heads up their asses.
This company has had so many opportunities and just seems to make the wrong decision at each turn.
