Hulk Hogan Says He Taught Vince McMahon About The Wrestling Business
Posted by Ashish on 11.03.2009

Hulk Hogan did an interview with the Gimme Noise blog out of Minnesota. Highlights are below.

On going to TNA: "That's a huge deal for me, man. I never thought that they would bring me in to like the Vince McMahon role with another wrestling company kind of like I did with WCW years back. I actually used to have this same role back in the day, except it was unofficial. Vince's dad ran the league while I was down here in Minnesota kicking ass with Verne Gagne and when he died, they talked me into coming back. So I came back and found that Vince McMahon, who owns the company now, didn't really understand the business. So I moved in next door to him in Connecticut and taught him all about lifting weights and riding motorcycles and partying like a mad man; and then I taught him about the wrestling business and making money. And now I'm doing that again with TNA Wrestling."

On why he got back into wrestling: "The reason I decided to get back into it is because I'm ready to flip this business over again. It's getting real boring with only one company stuffing this programming down your throat and not allowing fans and the wrestlers the chance to make a choice, and I think it's really important to be able to make that choice instead of just having one option and one option only."

On how he will improve TNA's visibility: "The proof is already out there. In the course of a few days we've got more buzz going for TNA Wrestling then it's had in seven years. For example, no other wrestling organization had ever been able to get into Madison Square Garden in New York for like, 100 years, because Vince owns it and his family owned it before him. So I came in and was like, "Watch this." And we did a press conference at Madison Square Garden. All I told these guys was that they should give me a chance. If they didn't like what I was doing they can tell me to take a hike, but let me have the chance to come in and take a shot at it. Let the fans and the other wrestlers take a look and decide for themselves what they're in to and I'm confident that I will get this thing rockin'."

There's (pretty much) your confirmation. Hogan's taking the reins, like it or not.

i think hogan should join foley's comedy tour. the shit he says is hilarious.

Wow, talk about an ego. Will there be room for that in TNA also?

Yeah Hulk,Vince forces us to turn on the tv and watch his product.Vince tells every other millionaire or billionaire that they can't run a wrestling business.Vince controls all of our thoughts and actions. You're such and ass.And I was actually a huge fan until recently.
You say he forces his brand down our throats. That's not only ridiculous but it's an insult to us.Do you blame Coca Cola for selling their brand of soda? No!! Should you blame Coca Cola because nobody else has stepped up and made a decent alternative ? No!! Get where I'm going with this???
All these people that shit on WWE and Vince because their view of themselves is much higher than their former employer.Total spoiled grapes.I can't stand it anymore.

So if he understands the business how did WCW go under when he was in total control? Got to love Hogan and the way he sees the world.

I hate McMahon, but I'm not sure that I believe this. It would be funny if it was true though, I guess we'll never know

Wow, Hogan truly is full of crap. Okay, we already knew this, but heres more proof. Hogan thinks hes the Jesus Christ of wrestling.
Hasn't Hogan done enough damage to the business hes apparently greater than? When will he leave us alone?

Hulk wishes he taught Vince McMahon the business. Vince has forgotten more than Hogan knows! That's a mighty bold statement to make. I wonder if Hulk ever found out the difference between a wristlock and a wristwatch!

Did he also teach Vince all about the steroid usage?

Posted By: Memin (Guest)  on November 03, 2009 at 04:49 PM

Yeah...Hulk Hogan "taught" the wrestling business to Vince McMahon, who "owns" Madison Square Garden.

And I'm the King of Belgium...

Im guessing he was referencing when WCW had more viewers than WWF for like a year or so .. Not the decline. People forget that WCW forced WWF to change into the attitude era and then they won the ratings war and knocked off WCW. If that can happen again im all for it. Id be happy to see DIVAS, Chavo, Hornswaggle and all the other usual crap off of raw and back to wrestling instead of 30 minutes of wrestling with 1 and half worth of skits...... PLEASE HOGAN MAKE TNA A CONTENDER SO WWE CAN BECOME BETTER AND MAKE YOU GUYS GO AWAY!!!

Yea I sure would hate for one guy to get shoved down our throats every week. One guy doing the same tired act and same tired moves for thirty years that just doesn't know when to stay away. I'm guessing you hate how all the old timers hold the young guys down too huh Hulk??

Posted By: kingave66 (Guest)  on November 03, 2009 at 05:32 PM

WCW went under because of the AOL-Time Warner deal. Hogan having creative control over his own character tanked the ratings. If he plays the Vince owner role (wrestling very sporadically and not winning any titles (and yes I know Vince held the WWE title)) and focuses on the other talent, he may actually put together a good product. Russo wont last, which is a bummer because it looked like he finally had gotten the message. Before we all freak out (which I initially did) maybe we should just take a look at how the product turns out. If it turns out to be shit, then expect them to go out of business, and Joe to come in as Umaga 2.0. All in all, the jury just isn't out on this yet(just like the Hardy case BTW). One thing I do know, is TNA has become a hell of a lot more interesting...we will see if they fall.

hulk hogan is a delusional 56 year old husband.

this asshole thinks he taught mcmahon the rassling business. hogan could not even teach his kids how to read and write or how to be good people in real life.

his son crippled another man for life and could care less.

j westmorland, you are a piece of worthless feces and i guarantee you that vince mcmahon could care less what scum like you think about him.

hell, he would not even urinate on you if you were on fire.

So if he knows the business side so well and is such a draw, how come his own fed died as well as WCW? And why not run things yourself?
As a matter of fact, how did WCW do after signing Hogan but before Nash and Hall came along?
I understand talking big for a press conference, but try backing up 1/10 of all you say.

Posted By: Guest#1514 (Guest)  on November 03, 2009 at 05:50 PM

For the record, he walked into New York Penn. Station and did a press conference. It was NOT inside Madison Square Garden.

Hogan's just doing his carny schtick... just like EVERYONE ELSE ever associated with Professional Wrestling (NWA, WWE, AWA, ECW, TNA, ROH,etc. , etc.) in it's ENTIRE history.

The only true marks left (the IWC "smarts") are the only ones who have been upset (worked) over Hogan's comments enough to post negatively about them.

Posted By: Guest#1910 (Guest)  on November 03, 2009 at 05:50 PM

As big as Hogan is, he needs to remember Vince is the one who made him a household name, not the other way around. If Hulk would have fucked up Vince could have fired him and given someone like Randy Savage his push. Savage was charismatic as hell too, plus he was damn good in the ring.

Hogan does realize that neither Panda Energy or Spike TV is Turner Broadcasting, and that he doesn't have unlimited millions to play with, right? I think the only thing Hulk taught Vince about wrestling was how to be egomaniacal and delusional. Oh, and to only surround yourself with people who agree with you.

its a HUGE difference to ACTUALLY hold a show in there.

Wow, they are going to need to expand the impact zone just to fit Hogans ego, BROTHER.

Also, his quote about the E being the only choice is retarded. It's not like TNA is currently being aired on a public access channel. It's being aired on the former channel of Raw, where WWE had much higher ratings on that same channel.

So...Hogan's going to teach Dixie Carter all about lifting weights and riding motorcycles and partying like a mad man? And then hes going to teach her about the wrestling business and making money? Because thats exactly what he is saying in the first paragraph...

Yup... and did you also know Hogan invented Hot Pockets, the pogo stick, and the internet? Oh, and he designed the 2009 Ford Mustang. And he directed the The Boondock Saints, and built the first working television. He also ran for president and won and abolished slavery.

... or so he says

What a dumass hes just stiring shit up just to make his impact felt when he oficially debuts in t.n.a..and if he really nows so much about the buisness why didnt he start his own company or help wcw when it was sinking?? Vince made him the star he is today what did he think he was gana get that big in the A.W.A?? Or in the n.w.a nope Vince made him and thats the truth without wwe there wouldnt be a hulkamania hes just mad cuz vince wanted the rights to his hulkamania trademark if he signed back with them which hell end up doing as soon as he cant wrestle anymore thats what most of the veterens have done because what are you gana do with a trademark gimick if you cant wrestle or if you die at least in wwe they keep your memories alive and makes them imortal in the wrestling fans eyes...

Hogan has never been this vocal about his bastardry before (always choosing to be a "behind the scenes" type of asshole). I doubt he'd start being that forward now.

More bullshit from Hogan, Vince learned the business from his dad & through clever marketing made Hogan the biggest name in the sport despite his lack of in ring talent.

TNA is doomed. I won't watch as long as Hogan's involved, I'm done with mainstream wrestling, TNA takes one step forwards two steps back, Raw hasn't been good in forever and they killed the greatness of Smackdown in less than a month

Posted By: Guest#4612 (Guest)  on November 03, 2009 at 07:48 PM

Yeah Vince doesn't understand the business, thats probably why he owns wrestling. Like Hugh Hefner knows anything about porn or Bill Gates knows anything about computers.

Please don't assume you're speaking for other people. Some of us think you guys need to lighten up, and stop trying to tell professional wrestlers what they should be doing via your little website forums.
Good luck TNA, and good luck Hulk, hope this helps you both in improving the product for us fans. Time will tell.

a couple of things first. l dont believe ANYTHING hogan says he is like muhamed ali, just says things to get people talking. the difference is people still care about ali, even now.

1. if hogan was kicking ass with gagne as he says...why isnt the AWA still in business?
2.if he was kicking ass in the AWA, why leave it?
3.Mcmahon brought hogan into the WWF.

4.despite what hogan would like us to believe, vince did more to bring the character hulk hogan to life, even more than terry bolea ever did.

well, it's now pretty obvious that Hogan is trying to get Vince to fire back at him and TNA. WWE is doing somewhat of a good job of acting as if TNA doesn't exist. A war of words publicly or on-air would only be a gain for TNA

Here's what Hogan taught Vince:

"Vince, job everybody in the company out to me so I'll look so good that I start to think I'm the salvation of all mankind and refuse to ever lay down for anybody except when forced to. Then, I'll leave and come back a couple of dozen times, almost never putting anybody over on the way out but destroying everybody when I come back in. Then, after you've made me millions of dollars and the biggest star in wrestling history, I'll put you down in every interview saying that I taught you everything. Sounds good right?"

I think the only thing Hogan ever taught McMahon was to never hire Hogan unless you want the rest of your talent destroyed before he inevitably walks out because he doesn't get his way. Too bad Russo hasn't learned this one from him yet.

Posted By: General Sandoval (Guest)  on November 03, 2009 at 09:20 PM

"Vince's dad ran the league while I was down here in Minnesota kicking ass with Verne Gagne and when he died, they talked me into coming back."

Except Hogan was back in the WWF in December 1983 and "Vince's dad" died in May 1984.

Taught Vince about lifting weights? More like taught him how injections and happy pills make you big and strong (and shorten your life)

LMAO the fact that ther ehave been about 5000 comments about hogan since he announced his comeback and no one has even seen him ear a TNA event I am guessing whatever they paid him is probably worth it. because if all the 'smart' people who belong to IWC are falling for all this then what are the average people thinking/believing?

Say everythign and anything you want about Hogan but anyone that has posted anything about him personally is getting outsmarted by him plain and simple. it is now his JOB to say shit like that. And nothing sells better than hype with alittle bit of truth behind it, especially when peopel think they know all the background and sordid details abot these guys because it gets reported here and they have access to 'the truth' about these guys.

TNA mark or WWE mark makes no difference the guy is simpley getting it done and he hasnt really done anything yet expcept talk. And people are stilll losing minds.

So well played Hogan, well played.

Wait a Minute .... Didn't Pepsi step up and become the alternitiveto Coke? just saying lol.. Pepsi is just as big if not bigger then coke...

Actually Pepsi AND Coke sell almost the same amount of product.
However, over time, Coke has outsold Pepsi on a consistant basis.
Sure Pepsi was created as an ALTERNATIVE to Coke but the Original Coke continues to sell better than Pepsi.

I would just like to see a "Pepsi" in the world of Pro wrestling. Even if TNA doesn't totally "destroy" WWE, I would just like to have another SOLID pro wrestling show to watch!

Unfortunately, with Hogans influence, I think TNA may be heading the way of Fago or Big Top Soda. Sure it's on store shelves but NOBODY really buys it!

HAHA!!! I love Hogan's talk. I'm sure he taught Mcmahon some things about the business, and vice versa. The bottom line is the man did get a presser in MSG, WWE territory, & has created a buzz. I think this is going to be a good move for TNA and lead to serious competition for the WWE. I wouldn't even mind a Hogan title run, as long as it's really brief and he puts someone over in the end (not Joe or AJ though, Matt Morgan or Hernandez I'm thinking). I know it's asking alot considering his ego and track record but I hope he's learned from the past and is thinking more about the company than himself, particularly if he actually has a stake in it this time.
