Jim Ross Blogs On PPV Numbers, Jack Swagger, Jeff Hardy’s Legal Issues, More
Posted by Larry Csonka on 11.05.2009

- Jim Ross has posted a new blog entry, here are the highlights…

On The PPV Business: PPV business....it is and always has been attraction driven. It also is affected by the disposable income folks have for an expendable entity. For example, we don't HAVE to watch every PPV on TV but we HAVE to have housing and food. PPV's coming at us fans with such frequency is challenging to process, prioritize and to afford. However, with the PPV business being such a vital part of any wrestling organization's bottom line, I would be surprised to see the number of PPV's decrease. So, it will come back to providing the consumer with what they are willing to and can purchase which will always be attraction driven fueled by button pushing creative which is no exact science.

On Jeff Hardy's Legal Issues: I see the continuance of the Jeff Hardy legal issue as positive news for Jeff. I'm not an attorney nor do I play one on TV but one can make an argument that if the authorities thought that they had an overwhelmingly strong case that they would not be interested in postponing the proceedings. I strongly feel that Jeff Hardy is NOT a drug trafficker whatsoever and that he will be vindicated. I am also not unbiased in this matter as I am a Jeff Hardy fan and have been since signing Matt and Jeff to their first WWE contracts.

On Edge's Recovery: I think Edge being 100% by Wrestlemania 26 is going to be a photo finish and I hope that I am wrong on that assumption. Edge had taken his game to another level prior to his injury and he will no doubt return to the ring fresher and ready to turn more heads if he makes sure that he is totally healthy. Torn Achilles obviously cannot be taken lightly. Edge would arguably need to be close to ready by January to really be able to capitalize on the promotional, TV build up for Phoenix or at least that's one school of thought.

On Jack Swagger: Interesting to read where Jack Swagger wrestled John Cena this week in Dublin. Swagger vs. Cena is new and fresh and it also is a good for the young Okie to hunt with the big dogs. I applaud the pairing of these two former college athletes.

Cena vs Swagger at Mania, who else will face Cena from RAW?

Please no jokes about Orton, HBK or HHH.

You know as well as I do, that it's not a joke. Cena may have a program with Swagger, but I doubt the WWE will trust Swagger at Wrestlemania.

JR is definitely not an attorney, nor did he read the news about the continuance. Hardy couldn't be in court and had a valid reason so they pushed back the date.

For the sake of human kind, Cena vs Orton vs HHH vs HBK OR ANY OF THOSE COMBINATIONS OF THOSE, SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN

Cena vs someone other than DX, Jericho, Orton?? I could see Cena ending UT streak because he is SO over with the fans!

Usually agree w/JR but got to disagree in terms of PPV business. If the product was top notch they would do better even with the economy. I ordered every single WWE PPV & nearly every TNA PPV w/couple friends from 1999-2007. Have only seen couple shows since then. On the other hand, I have seen every UFC since UFC 62 back in August 06. UFC shows that people will still pay for PPV as UFC 100 did 1.6 million buys & UFC 101 did almost 1 million. Its just not a hot time for wrestling now & they haven't convinced people like myself to return.

I think, if booked a certain way (maybe in a fan-favourite Hogan vs. Warrior manner), Cena vs. Rey at Wrestlemania would be great.

If there were 4-5 PPVs a year, I'd probably order all of them, as they'd seem important. As it stands now, I only get WM cause everything else seems like more of the same. If I miss it, there will be another one in 3 weeks, featuring most of the same matches with different gimmicks attached.

Good. Now you can go over to 411's MMA section and take your idiotic comments with you!!

Let Cena end the streak. He's already killed whatever aura HHH and HBK had by making them tap out at consecutive Wrestlemanias. Might as well ruin Undertaker too. Because all the people that boo Cena and tell him he sucks will still tune in and order the PPVs like the little bitchy marks they are. There is no such thing as a "smark". Those are just marks that have a chip on their shoulder because they can't give up their fake sport no matter how lame it gets. I have much more respect for the so-called "sheep" that watch because they enjoy it.

Your attitude is the reason so many people are tuning out of wrestling. Your like "well, if you don't like it, get the F out." Rather than question why people are so sick of wrestling the way it is now, you just side with your beloved hobby. WWE takes this same approach with their fanbase. They throw long time fans a bone every year with the Hall of Fame, but that's a fucking joke too. Guys like Ric Flair have shown you how important a wrestling hall of fame is, lol.

"fueled by button pushing creative which is no exact science."

Maybe not for the bunch of sorry-ass hacks cranking out storylines inside Titan Towers, Mr. Ross, but your former boss, Mr. Watts, seemed to be pretty good at it, no?!

It's not about the importance of the wrestling hall of fame dude, it's about the MONEY, and that's never enough for guys still over that see the chance to keep on making money off those two, three things they're still able to do. It's sad, but in a way how can't you understand a Hogan or a Flair especially now?

To compare UFC buyrates to WWE is insane. UFC is not even close to being as overexposed as WWE. I mean how many times did Randy Coutour and Brock Lesnar fight? 1 time. Lesnar and Mir was intresting cause it was a intense rematch and they only fought 2 times in 1 year.... Cena has faced in TV and PPV over 20 times, plus the mystery of UFC for being real is something you have to see live and in person, just like Foot ball or baseball but WWE is for performance so a person will Wait 2 weeks for the DVD and if not wait a few monthes for it to be on WWE ondemand....... Beileve me if the UFC had 3 shows a week of orginal programing and a high light show, several dvds per month, and UFC 24/7 on demand and releasing internet on Demand then they would not be doing close to the bussiness they are currently doing, hell they prob wouldnt match the WWE PPV and TV ratings
