TNA house show results…
Tanks to Hammond Eggar for sending the results along…
Hammond Eggar here with your live TNA House Show report from the Regional Special Events Center in Murray, KY. I took notes as best as I could and will attempt to recount the events in as much detail as possible. As video recording was verboten, this report is taken from shorthand notes.
The RSEC seats about 8,500 total. The upper seats were roped off and it didn't appear as though they sold seats on the ends of the arena. Estimated capacity for this event was in the 1,000 range and they got about half of that to show up.
JB came out as your ring announcer and chief shill. He warmed up the crowd and offered back stage passes for those who made the most noise. The crowd popped for that.
MATCH #1: "THE POPE" D'ANGELO DINERO vs SUICIDE
The Pope cut a promo to draw cheap heat by saying that the audience set an attendance record—for the largest number of losers under one roof. Those attending reacted accordingly. Suicide came out from the crowd and we're under way!
They lockup and eventually work into a Suicide head lock. Pope slid out and they locked up again. Suicide got an armbar and worked it into a headlock. Pope reversed into a headlock of his own. Belly-to-back by the Pope. And the Pope is Pimping! Most of the early action is happening on the mat and the crowd is already out of it. Pope chokes Suicide on the ropes. Fist drop gets a two for Dinero. We hit chinlock and Suicide does the usual face antics to get the crowd back into the match. Suicide works his way up and tosses Pope out of the ring. Dinero is out of the ring for the 9 count. Back in and the action picks up as we head home. Russian leg sweep gets two for Suicide. Pope goes for a belly-to-back which gets reversed into the Suicide Solution and we're done at about nine minutes.
WINNER: SUICIDE via SUICIDE SOLUTION
Match was OK, but had I had higher expectations out of these two—and so did the crowd. Way too many rest holds for two X-Division stars. Rating: **1/2
MATCH #2: "BIG" ROB TERRY w/ DOUG WILLIAMS vs KIP JAMES
Apparently, Kip is no longer "kute" which makes him a face again. We open the match with a pose down. (Is Hogan booking this match?) Eventually, Kip finishes his pose with a DX chop which the crowd eats up. The wrestling portion of the match finally gets underway with a lockup. Kip gets an armbar which he works into a headlock. Terry shoots him off the ropes and and they hit shoulder blocks. We're back to the pose down which prompts the crowd for the obligatory "USA" chants. The action picks up as Kip hits the ropes for a body press which Terry catches. Fall-away slam gets two. As Terry argues with the ref, Williams hits some elbow shots while Kip is prone on the apron. Terry unleashes some English violence on Kip in the corner. Kip works his way up and works a chin lock into a slam for a two-count. Kip gets the faux-offense and the crowd is on their feet. Boot to the gut and he calls for the famasser. Williams gets Kip's attention which allows Terry to get up and hit Kip with a sick round-house kick for the win at about eight minutes.
WINNER: ROB TERRY via ROUND-HOUSE KICK
As I had no expectations for anything positive to come out of this match I was pleasantly surprised by the finish. Rating: **
MATCH #3: "THE FUTURE LEGAND" ALISSA FLASH vs SOJO BOLT
JB screws up Alissa's entrance by calling her "The Knockout" Alissa Flash. Well, he has a point there. Alissa gets some heat of her own as she fakes a strip tease with the jacket. Zipper goes down and goes right back up again and that's all you're going to see tonight folks! Nicely done. Sojo comes out and runs round the ring as though she was Taylor Wilde. It should be noted that both women are veterans of the former "Kongtourage" and while Awesome Kong is not here tonight, it goes without saying that, even in her absence Kong kills bitches dead!
Match starts off with Flash kicking the holy living shit out of Bolt in the corner. Sojo works her way back up and Alissa gets a headlock. Bolt gets out of the headlock peril with a nice hip toss and follows up with a second hip toss and a damn fine drop kick. Back up, Sojo takes Flash down with a headlock and gets a two-count. Flash works out of the headlock with a belly-to-back suplex. Again with the stomps. Flash chokes Bolt on the ropes while she sneers at the fans. The crowd is dead for this match. Bolt works her way up and shoots Flash off the ropes to setup for a sunset-flip for two. We then trade pinning combinations which finally wakes the audience up to the fact that this is the best damn wrestling match of the night! Back up and Bolt hits the ropes and gets floored with a SICK lariat from Flash for two. DAMN that was nasty! Flash shoots Bolt into the corner, charges, and hits her with an elbow. Flash does her version of a Nash boot. The ref breaks that up at five. Curb stomp gets two and the crowd is finally getting behind Sojo. Flash works what appears to be a revers-Texas-Cloverleaf. Absolutely spectacular! Bolt gets to the ropes and Flash pulls her back and resets the hold. Bold rolls out of the maneuver. Both women are up and Bolt flattens Flash with a kick to the head for two. DAMN! Crowd is on their feet. Knee-drop gets two. Flash is up and Bolt charges and gets caught. Sit-out slam and that's all she wrote at about nine minutes!
WINNER: ALISSA FLASH via SIT-OUT SLAM
In my opinion, this was the match of the night and it is Alissa's best second only to the street fight with Hamada. Rating: ****
MATCH #4: HOMICIDE vs HERNANDEZ
Hernandez comes out in his Super Mex ring gear. Homicide gets heat by juking-and-jiving all over the ring. My shorthand is relegated to noting each wrestler as "Ho" and "He". Hernandez finally catches his former partner and beals him across the ring with a couple of hip tosses. Super Mex then gets a standing suplex that he holds for damn near thirty seconds. Davey Boy Smith would be proud! Homicide goes up top and gets caught and takes the Flair way down. Homicide finally mounts some offense with a belly-to-back suplex and a chop-block. He then chokes Hernandez on the ropes. Back, in the corner, Homicide delivers some knife-edges to Super Mex followed by some biting to the head. The hit the ropes and Hernandez comes out the better for it with a couple of clothes-lines followed by a back body drop. Side slam by Hernandez gets two. Homicide tries a body block but gets caught. Sit-out-power-bomb finishes the match at about seven minutes.
WINNER: "SUPER MEX" HERNANDEZ via SIT-OUT POWERBOMB
Pretty good match between the former LAX. I expected some more heel-offense from Homicide given the "feud" between these two; however, perfectly acceptable wrestling. Rating: ***
After the match, Homicide goes nuts and proceeds to rip up the mats and throw some chairs into the ring. Apparently, the damage to the ring area is severe enough for us to take a fifteen minute break. Seriously, do we actually have to "work" our way into intermission?
JB is out to announce that everyone who got a backstage pass needed to make their way backstage. The "backstage" area was simply a corner of the arena marked out by barricades. The bleacher section on that end of the arena got you just as close as if you had gotten the pass. The faces were on-hand to take pictures and sign autographs.
MATCH #5: RHINO vs "THE MONSTER" ABYSS
Rhino is out first and the audience didn't get the memo on his heel-turn. Abyss is out and the crowd actually is booing the "monster." Rhino gets things squared away by cutting a five-minute promo which puts the heat squarely on himself and sufficiently gets the crowd behind Abyss. That's why they call it "professional" wrestling. The results of Rhino's mic-work gets the crowd to chant "you suck" to which he responds, "I don't swallow, and I definitely don't suck." Somewhere Kris Kanyon is shedding a tear.
Now that the audience has been oriented as to face-heel paradigm we finally get to the wrestling portion of this wrestling match. Rhino starts off with a headlock to which Abyss counters by shoving Rhino off the ropes and getting a shoulder-block. Rhino no-sells that but does go over with a hip-toss. Rhino bails and Abyss stops the count at seven and the chase is on. Rhino made it as far as the entry steps where Abyss finally caught up with him. A friendly beat down and Rhino is brought back to the ring. Abyss bounces Rhino's head off the steps before throwing him back into the ring. Abyss goes for a chokeslam but Rhino blocks it and gets a couple of clotheslines to boot. Rhino is back on top, ahem, and chokes out Abyss on the ropes. Slingshot puts Abyss flat-on-his-ass which gives Rhino the opportunity for some kicks and stomps. Rhino gets a two count as result of the ground-and-pound. Eventually, Abyss gets up and gets all pissed and stuff. Fists-a-fury to Rhino in the corner. Irish-whip followed by an avalanche sets up for a sidewalk slam for two. Back up, Rhino hits a belly-to-belly and sets up for the gore. Rhino charges and Abyss catches him with the choke slam. Whether it was Rhino's pre-match promo or Abyss' "tard-clapping", the audience is definitely behind the monster. Abyss throws Rhino into the corner and charges in but eats elbow. GORE, GORE, GORE finishes at about nine minutes.
After the match, Rhino grabs a chair and holds the damn thing in front of his face for Abyss to kick. This gets Abyss the faux-victory exit.
WINNER: RHINO via GORE, GORE, GORE!!!!!
I earned some respect for the way Rhino got the crowd squared away before the match. The match itself wasn't a classic but it was good to see Rhino get the clean win just the same. Rating: **3/4
JB is out and announces that there is a "special surprise" following the main event this evening. Translation, nobody leave. Got it. He then introduces Doug Williams. Exactly, what part of "suspended until No Surrender" does the British Invasion not understand? Williams cuts his anti-American promo and then channels Nikoli Volkof by asking the crowd to stand up while he sings the national anthem of the United Kingdom.
BEER, MONEY!
James Storm is out sans Robert Roode. Storm is in street clothes which underscores the fact that JB never said that this was going to be a match. Storm says that he can tell that there are beer-drinkers in the audience tonight. You think? He says that he doesn't need ring gear to whip Williams' 'butt.' The crowd is eating this up! Storm says that he heard about JB's surprise and Storm has one of his own: a special "Beer Money backstage pass" for the rowdiest fan in the seats. Just how many backstage passes are there at these events? He gets the crowd to chant BEER and MONEY. Fortunately, I was on the BEER side. He then starts a "you suck" chant for Williams who gets all pissed off and junk. Storm says that he'll "put [his] boot in [Williams'] butthole all the way back to England." I thought that WWE was PG. That was pitiful. Williams takes offense and we play fist-a-cuffs until Williams bails. The music hits and Storm soaks up the love. Williams grabs Storm's passes and rips them up on his way out. Damn. Storm grabs some four-year-old girl and brings her in the ring ensuring by far, the biggest pop of the night. The two then make their Rand-Elizabeth exit.
MATCH #6 and YOUR MAIN EVENT for the TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP:
SAMOA JOE vs TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION AJ STYLES
At the ring of the bell Joe beats down AJ in the corner. Joe pulls AJ out and delivers a headbut. AJ takes over with a dropkick. He tried to clothesline Joe out of the ring but the signals got crossed. Yeah, the crowd picked up on that little screw-up. Joe exits the ring nonetheless which sets AJ up for a plancha. Back inside AJ tries for a suplex which Joe reverses. Joe gets AJ up and AJ reverses and finally gets the suplex. Knee-drop by AJ is followed by an elbow-drop. AJ locks in a reverse-crossface but Joe rolls out. Joe's in the corner and AJ gets a knife-edge. Joe reverses and mistakes AJ for a punching bag. Irish whip is reversed and AJ charges Joe in the corner but eats elbow. Same beat down, different corner. Joe hits AJ with three snap-mares and then locks in a nerve-pinch. Nice. AJ elbows out of the hold but Joe locks in a rear-naked-choke. AJ punches out of the hold and hits the ropes. Joe catches him in a power-slam for two. Joe throws AJ into the corner and charges but catches elbow. AJ returns the favor and charges Joe but gets body-dropped over the rope. AJ lands on his feet and Joe pretends he has never seen this spot before. Flying forearm off the top rope gets two and the crowd on their feet. Back up and AJ hits the hurricanrana for two. Back in the corner and Joe charges and hits AJ with a knee. AJ charges the corner again and gets caught with a Rock Bottom. Somewhere Chris Sabin is cringing. Joe sets AJ on the top rope and lays in the nastiest slap of the night. He gets AJ in the muscle-buster but AJ goes out the back door and hits Pele out of nowhere for the pin at about nine minutes.
WINNER AND STILL TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION: AJ STYLES via PELE
Pretty good match between these two but way too short for a "World Title" main event. It was about nine minutes which was the average length of all the other matches tonight. It should have gone at least twenty in my opinion. Other than my issues with the time-factor—and a botched clothesline—an acceptable main event. Rating: ***3/4
After the match, AJ grabs the mic and announces HIS big surprise. Oh, it's his surprise now? He said that since he's TNA champion, he has some pull, and is saying that EVERYONE gets a back stage pass. JB whispers in his ear and basically says that even the TNA champ can't do that. Undaunted, AJ then says that if they can't bring the fans backstage, they can at least bring the backstage to the fans. JB, apparently now the mind reader, says that fans can get in the ring and have their picture taken with the champ (for the low, low price of $20.) For all us cheap bastards, we can hang around the ring area and get autographs from the babyfaces.
This was my first live TNA event, and overall, I'm impressed. Like everything else, there's nothing like being there live. I think that our crowd warranted a repeat event in the future. My unofficial estimate is that the audience was between 500-550 in number. I don't know what the breakeven number is on attendance; however, our crowd is certainly within the attendances that I've seen reported at other house shows. The crowd was certainly hot throughout the event. Other than getting mixed up on the Abyss / Rhino match, they seemed to be into the action.

This was my first TNA show and I pretty much enjoyed. I was hoping we were going to get to see Tara and Beer Money wrestle on the show. They were originally advertised on TNA's website, but as they say "card subject to change". My favorite part of the show was when me and my friend were messing with Homicide during his match(with Hernandez) and asked him; "Do you speak Japanese?" He looked straight at us and responded "konichiwa bitches!" Overall the event was pretty solid for a house show. I was let down though with the lack of Merchandise avaible to be purchased at the show.

Yes, this show was amazing, especially the part where we all got to get in the ring and pose with the champ.

WTF
A diva/knockout-match with ****?
Posted By: Guest#7741 (Guest) on November 07, 2009 at 03:09 PM
no no a knockouts match, its a huge difference from a diva match where the knockouts actually know how to wrestle and the divas are paid to look good

Assuming the time estimates are accurate, it's pretty sad that nothing got past single digits in terms of minutes in the ring.

I think that high rating for the women's match might have been a tad exaggerated/subjective, but I trust that it was very good. It is Alissa Flash after all in the match.
When someone can carry the Matt Morgan of the Knockouts Division, Sojo Bolt to a strong match, you know they need a push!

The knockout match was awful. Boring and sloppy. Easily the worst match of the night. I have no idea what this reviewer is thinkin'.

"its a huge difference from a diva match where the knockouts actually know how to wrestle and the divas are paid to look good"
You do know Velvet Sky and Lacey Von Erich are getting title shots at the PPV next week, right?

Alyssa Flash is one of the hottest women in all of wrestling.
I for one would love to see her get the "AJ Grey" treatment!
