Ken Anderson Discusses His WWE Release, Paul Heyman, Working Independent Promotions, More
Posted by Larry Csonka on 11.09.2009

- The Poughkeepsie Journal recently interviewed Ken Anderson, who was promoting his appearances for Northeast Wrestling on Friday November 13th in Waterbury, CT and Saturday November 14th in Washingtonville, NY. Here are the highlights…

On Leaving WWE: There's was a bunch of different things. Some I had a hand in and you know, some things I didn't. Politics definitely played a role in that. I'm not bitter about it. I'm not sad about it or anything like that. It's something that happened and I'm happy to be gone. After I got the initial shock and the punch in the stomach, it was like an elephant just stepped off my chest. I was pretty unhappy there for about three years. I thought that I could used a different way and I wasn't. That's OK. That was their business decision. They decided not to go that way. That's fine. That's on them. Now, I'm going to try to stick it (to them, expletive) basically and prove them wrong. Hopefully, someday they'll look back and say '(expletive), we could have had that guy.'

On Paul Heyman Helping His Career: Big. I can't tell you how much that guy helped me out. He was one guy that...When I was trying to come up, I would show up at Raws and SmackDowns and I'd always be in the ring. Nowadays, when local guys get there and get to the building, they like just hang out in catering. Just sit around and chill and kind of mark out, if you will. We would get to the building. I traveled a lot with Daivari. We would get booked on the same shows. You get to the building, you put your gear on. You go to sit at the ring. You don't go eat catering. If you've got time, eventually, you do it. You go sit by the ring. You get in there. If the ring's clear for a couple of minutes, 'hey, would you mind if we get in there?'

On Working Indy's Again: I've done a handful here and there and it's been fun. It really has. I'll tell you, I was in a place mentally where I hated wrestling. I hated it for a couple of months. I didn't know if I wanted to do this stuff anymore. Getting back out, doing independent shows, reminded me that I still have a love for the business and I still enjoy being out there. Whether it's a crowd...it's always amazing working in front of 80,000 people or 20,000 people or 5,000 people, but doing little shows where there's a couple of hundred people, it's more intimate. I can spend more time with the fans. It's fun too.

On His Future: I don't know, man. We'll see what happens. Right now, I'm having fun. Fortunately, I was fortunate to be able to make some money while I was there and I didn't really buy anything. I don't have five cars and all that crap that I'm making payments on. I'm OK. You know what I mean? Pretty comfortable. My life is pretty stress-free. I still get to wrestle. I'm doing things that I like to do and I enjoy doing them. I hope that some day, I'd like to be able to go back. There's still things that I want to to do in the wrestling business that I haven't been able to do yet. Like I said, things would have to drastically change. Unfortunately, right now, I just can't even watch wrestling myself. Rarely. I have to force myself to try to watch it. To me, it's just not compelling television right now. I would like to make it compelling. I think I can help, but I can't do it by myself.

He seems like a pretty cool guy, aside from lying about Wellness and all that. I'd cut the man the break.

Yeah, I'm sure they're going to be upset they let you go, Mr. Glass. Don't flatter yourself!

If an IWC darling made these remarks (Kendrick, London), the typical response would be, "He tells the truth! Preach on, man!" Ken Anderson says them, and I bet we get a bunch of, "Quit whining, you injury prone bum!"

Anderson just had a superb match with indy wrestler Mike Bennet. Bennet has done darks before and recently did a dark for TNA against TNA. The kid is the best thing going that no one has heard of.

Let's put it this way, if he was even half as big as he thinks he is, he'd already be in TNA or even ROH instead of making internet videos or showing pics of his dyed hair. He just doesn't have lasting drawing power, only a curiosity factor at best.

Kennedy had loads of charisma and was really getting over in WWE before they pulled out the rug from under him.

As far as being injury prone, how many times has HHH been injured and not been fired from the company?

Ken could've been the next big main eventer if the company had believed in him, but in McMahonLevesqueWorld, you can't have talent getting too popular & stealing the thunder of GoldenBoySonInLaw. Let him be king of that company, it's all falling to shit anyway.

Something tells me both they're both greatly interested. And the videos have been really fun - not to mention a smart way of keeping up appearances.

That s why TNA officials have teased his signature right ?

It's Kennedy who does not want to go to TNA not the other way around.

He is full of talent and is vastly superior to 75 per cent of the current TNA Roster charisma, name recognition and mic skills wise.

On what planet do you live, sir? I'm a pretty huge Kennedy mark, but even I have to admit that he screwed himself over pretty badly in the WWE. I mean he was handed not one, but SEVERAL main event pushes on a silver platter and he blew all of them. Yeah he's pretty competent in the ring, and he has a boatload of charisma, but he needs to stop running his mouth and getting hurt every time he steps in the ring. If he can get his skills in order I'd love to see WWE give him a second shot.

He is a little bitch and a lousy wrestler. Cheats on his wife. Used to band ODB and all those indie bitches. He sucks. Welcome back to the bush leagues.

How many times has HHH banged Stephanie and how many times has Kennedy even touched her fucking hand.

there is a huge difference between kennedy being injury prone and edge, batista, rey mysterio, hhh, and undertaker being injury prone.

the latter all had at points in their careers lengthy runs to establish their character. each time anderson was about to find his groove, he was injured. he stopped his own momentum. only for the wwe to try and start it all over again.

His biggest concern should be overcoming his history of injuries and staying healthy. he has a ton of charisma and his ring work is decent.

Lot of Kennedy apologists on here. Let's face some facts...
1) The man was injured....a lot. And as a mid-card talent, that's not good for job security.
2) He was horribly inconsistent in the ring. One night he's look good, would gel and his timing would be great. Next night he's be god-awful in there, horrible timing, mis-communication and botching moves which either hurt himself, or caused another wrestler to hurt themselves (Cena).
3) The WWE pushed him hard against the likes of The Undertaker, and even just before his release he was entering into something with Orton. We all know how he botched that one don't we?

So he can whine on about politics and making them sorry all he likes, fact is the man was a liability who wasn't worth keeping around for the nights when he wasn't sloppy or awful in the ring. Batista gets chance after chance because he's a proven draw, as does HHH, as does Edge. Kennedy wasn't, and the WWE can't be blamed for his derailing.

You know, I used to like this guy but ever since he "left" WWE he has done nothing but WHINE and CRY about being "left go".

This guy has done nothing but BITCH about the WWE since the day he left, and now he has the balls to say that he's "not bitter"?!?!?

What a piece of shit. I hope this guy goes NOWHERE!!!

No wait, actually I hope he DOES go somewhere and consistantly puts on mediocre matches and then gets hurt(AGAIN!) so that we can see that it just wasn't the WWE and the "politics" that stopped his career.

This guy is a joke and I have a feeling the rest of his "career" will be as well.

I wish people would learn to seperate the TELEVISION CHARACTER from the WRESTLER!

Sure, Kennedy was a GREAT CHARACTER and had spectacular mic skills and was very entertaining.......

BUT

he was CONSTANTLY getting hurt, his actual matches were decent at best and he was always endangering the other people who he was working with.

HHH had a good 10 YEARS under his belt before any type of serious injury put him on the shelf. In that 10 YEARS, he had MANY successful runs and championships in the WWE.

HHH is also TEN TIMES the worker that Anderson is. Face facts, HHH was on top WAY BEFORE he ever married Steph!

Anderson had practically ZERO experience under his belt and his runs were ALWAYS being cut short by injuries.

WWE did the SMART thing by letting him go. Why spend money on someone who is always at home not working because he is injured?

Look, I liked the Kennedy character too but when you look at Andersons workrate, injury time, and attitude you can PLAINLY see why the WWE left him go.

Wow some of you guys will blame HHH for all of WWEs woes. Do you also blame the weather man every time it rains?

Anderson had tons of opportunities and blew them all. He ran his mouth way too much and had a string of bad luck - he's to blame.
