Lots of ROH news…
From ROHWrestling.com:
- What can we say other than THANK YOU Philadelphia and Edison! The energy and enthusiasm in the buildings for all three events last weekend was incredible, and we couldn't think of a better way for Philly and Edison to end their ROH 2009's. We look forward to January 8th and 9th when we'll once more return to South Philly, and April 10th when we come back to Edison. 2010 will be bigger and better than ever!
- Did you catch Ring of Honor on HDNet last night? If not, you missed one of the best TV matches you'll find anywhere in the world! Don't forget to check out http://rohvideos.com/ROHBrazil later this week for the upload. In the meantime, call your local cable provider and tell them you want ROH on HDNet!!!
- BREAKING NEWS: ROH, in conjunction with officials at AAA, is happy to announce that one of the hottest rivalries in Mexico is coming to Ring of Honor! Coming to Manassas, VA on 12/18 and to New York City for Final Battle 2009 on 12/19 are the impressive Alex Koslov and, making his return to ROH, Rocky Romero! Koslov and Romero have gone back and forth at each other for some time in AAA, and now they're bringing that intensity to ROH! Both competitors have graced ROH rings in the past, are known the world over for their skill, and both are ready to make yet another splash in ROH. "It's great to come back," said Romero. "Some of the best times I've had in wrestling have been in ROH, and now it's time to give back." Tickets for both events are on sale now! Stay tuned to the main page at ROHWrestling.com for another big announcement regarding these events in the next 48 hours!
- Speaking of Final Battle, by virtue of their victory over Kevin Steen and El Generico last weekend, Mark and Jay Briscoe have been awarded an ROH World Tag Team Title match against the American Wolves of Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards! This match will take place on December 19th in midtown Manhattan and could be the culmination of a full year quest at redemption for the Briscoes. Check out the main page story by Holden McNeil at http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=3068 for more on this incredible matchup!
- The ROH/HDNet Pick 6 Contenders Series has begun! As announced by ROH on HDNet Executive Producer Jim Cornette last Thursday in Philadelphia, ROH and HDNet Officials have implemented an exciting and fresh system of establishing championship contenders. This insures that Austin Aries' days of drawing also-rans from a hat are over! The rules are simple:
- Only wrestlers ranked in the "Pick 6" are eligible to challenge for the ROH World Championship. Championship matches scheduled prior to the advent of the Pick 6 will take place.
- The higher a wrestler is seeded, the more leverage he has in determining the scheduling of championship matches.
- Wrestlers securing victories in "Pick 6" matchups earn a match bonus.
- Once the rankings are set, wrestlers can only enter the "Pick 6" Standings by defeating a ranked wrestler.
- A ranked wrestler that defeats a higher seeded wrestler assumes that spot in the Pick 6. The losing wrestler and those ranked lower drop one spot in the standings.
- An unranked wrestler that defeats a "Pick 6" Contender assumes that wrestler's spot, and everyone lower slides down one rank. The lower a wrestler is ranked, the more they have to lose.
After every Ring of Honor event, the standings will be updated and posted at the ROHWrestling.com Message Forum. Ring of Honor would like to thank the fine people at Pro Wrestling Illustrated for their sponsorship of the Pick 6 Series during Ring of Honor Wrestling on HDNet!
- Prince Nana has taken the first step in avenging the brutal Dog Collar beating that his crown jewel, Jimmy Rave, took from the Necro Butcher when ROH rolled through Chicago. That step: Unleashing the Monster Stevens. On the main page (http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=3071), Holden McNeil looks at the regrouped Embassy as it has added Erick Stevens to their impressive war force. McNeil also looks at the matches signed for the Embassy in Novi, MI and Mississauga, ON this weekend, as well as the match that Nana is banking on Stevens to win in Chicago on December 5th!
- Kenny King pulled a fast one on Tyler Black in Edison with the help of Rhett Titus and ROH World Champion Austin Aries. Just a minute into the King/Black matchup that many have wanted to see, Titus and Aries struck. Luckily for Black, Colt Cabana and Grizzly Redwood were on point, and evened the odds. Cabana was able to fall Aries, but it doesn't end there! In the last 36 hours, Tyler Black has been in contact with ROH officials, and now signed for Chicago on 12/5 he'll get what he wants. It's Black versus King, and everyone else is BARRED FROM RINGSIDE! Can Black avenge his mentor Jerry Lynn in the Windy City with Pick 6 spots at stake?
- ROH Officials and members of the booking committee are reviewing the request by Colt Cabana for an ROH World Title match in Chicago on 12/5. Cabana scored victory over Austin Aries last Saturday in Edison, NJ and is currently ranked 4th in the Pick 6. Executive Producer Jim Cornette has already signed off in favor of a title match for Cabana. More on this as it develops.
