Rey Mysterio Injury Update
Posted by Larry Csonka on 11.24.2009
When will he return?
According to Pwinsider.com, Rey Mysterio will be having surgery on his damaged ACL. Instead of the traditional "more invasive" surgery, Rey will undergo a lesser surgery that will allow him to return to the ring sooner. Originally the fear was that he would be out 6-9 months, but with the lesser surgery, he could be back in time for the Royal Rumble. Rey wants to get back into the ring as soon as possible, but the lesser surgery will only be a quick fix as he will need full surgery down the line to fully repair the knee.
Mysterio did appear at a scheduled book signing last night in Ridgewood, NJ. The signing drew around 500 fans, and Mysterio was said to not be selling the injury in any way.
I wouldn't expect Mysterio to be selling the injury, considering as though Batista never targeted the knee.

awesome news. im a big fan of his work this year from his elimination chamber n.w.o performance to his work in the sd 6.2 and of course the jericho feud.
so hopefully rey can pull out some more classics at the royal rumble, elimination chamber and WM 26!!!!

Why Dave Why?

you mean a more "invasive" surgery?
but on a serious note...
When is Rey Mysterio just going to take a year off and really get well? It seems like they are always doing the quick fix with him and others just to rush them back to the ring and back on the road.
How about you FORCE him to get the surgery that fixes it for real this time? Give him a full year off and let him heal other lingering injuries? Let him relax and not deal with the burnout of being on the road constantly.
Edge will be better off in the long run because he has missed so much time. His injury was a blessing in disguise because it wasn't something they could do a "band-aid" surgery on. He had to give it time to heal properly. I think when he does come back, he will be recharged and ready to go full speed again.
Jericho is the first wrestler of the modern era to actually take time off. It was his decision and he did it for the right reasons. Since his return he has reinvented his character and has looked great in the ring. I hated having him gone for 3 years, but I actually think more wrestlers in their early to mid 30's should consider taking a couple years off.

i really hate to see mysterio 15-20 years from now. his knees are going look worse than joe namath's.

I find Rey to be kind of bland, but the guy is ruining his body to perform.

Yeah, because the quick fix surgery has worked so well in the past.
Still I can understand that Rey doesn't want to miss ANOTHER Wrestlemania due to injury after 2007 and 2008.

fucking moron, get the full surgery!

I doubt at this point, with the amount of punishment Mysterio's put on his knees, that any longer time away from wrestilng will do any more good than the time he's planning to be away. You can only put your body through so much consistent strain before it will no longer heal completely. Age takes it's toll, too. Just ask Stone Cold Steve Austin if he's in any better shape to wrestle now than he was six years ago.

"Instead of the traditional "more evasive" surgery, Rey will undergo a lesser surgery that will allow him to return to the ring sooner."
I take it that "evasive surgery" is when the patient starts flopping around on the table while they're trying to operate.

Man, Rey has been injured quite a bit in the last few years. Good thing he moves merchandise, otherwise he would probably be going the way of Mr. Kennedy.....Kennedy.

Rey should be shooting roids in his knees every day

Yeah, Angle had the band-aid surgery and he hasn't had any major flare-ups, however he's stuck on the pain pills probably forever. Not that Rey hasn't been on pain pills...

When is Rey Mysterio just going to take a year off and really get well?
------------------------------------
Pretty much when he stops making so much money by selling so much merchandise. He's not the first guy to totally beat up his body because he's making so much now and figures it's worth it. (Just look at Orndorff, he ended up with a permanently withered arm from putting off surgery and making gobs of money.)

Rey needs to take some serious time off.

rey has never been a top guy anyway. I consider him just a jobber.

Rey Mysterio retires next year. The man is incredible, but it's actually hurting the business by continually taking time off during hot programs ad periods.
