Umaga Hospitalized, Seriously Ill
Posted by Ashish on 12.04.2009

Former WWE star Eddie "Umaga" Fatu has been hospitalized in an ICU unit in Houston, TX. Reports are going around that he is now brain dead, but that has not been confirmed by his family. WWE called it a "grave situation." His condition is thought to be life-threatening and his family was told to get into town and to the hospital right away.

Details are a bit sketchy at this point, but he was apparently found by his wife this morning, not breathing with blood coming out of his nose.

This is what happens when you take drugs day in and day out with no regard for you or your family's welfare. I've got no sympathy for that fat, somoan piece of shit.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the former Umaga. He was one of the most talented big men to work in the business and if he is as far gone as they say then he will be sorely missed.

Its sad; if its drug related< I wouldnt be surprised since this is what
several of the WWE stars have fallen victim to. It doesnt look good for Umaga, but my family wishes him the best.

Wow, how awful. Morally, I can not support a company that produces an enviroment that is killing so many people. Think about it next time you're watching an episode of Raw, you are supporting a company that sits by and lets its employees die, and does nothing to stop it, because trying to implement some measures to make it a more safe place to work might hurt their bottom line.

The thing to note here is that he refused WWE's offer for treatment. You can't begin to recieve help unless you first are willing to accept it. This is especially true of drug abusers.

I wish this had gone another way, but WWE did all they could for the guy.

Another blow for wrestling. Get well Umaga.

Posted By: Propagandhi (Guest)  on December 04, 2009 at 04:34 PM

For people blaming the WWE, remember that they let him go because he tested positive under the wellness policy and refused to get treatment. WWE did what they could and have helped former stars get treatment and paid for said treatment. In the end, the person who has an addiction has to want to get clean.

So you must be forgetting that Umaga failed a drug test in June and was released only because he refused to go to rehab, which the WWE pays for in full. But I guess a troll is a troll is a troll.

In any case, my prayers are with him. God help Eddie, and his family who must be going through pure hell right now.

That's a crock of horseshit and you know it. Umaga was offered to go to rehab. He refused. So WWE fired him. He left so he could do his drugs. And it has cost him.

I try and feel not sad about wrestlers but I can't help it. It's just become the norm to hear every 9-12 months of another famous wrestler dying. RIP Umaga my thoughts go out to his family.

Wasn't his release about him refusing to go to rehab. WWE saw this coming.

Posted By: Andrew Barbarash (Guest)  on December 04, 2009 at 04:44 PM

hey jond, wwe has a drug policy and they offer free rehab to all current and former wwe talent.

umaga was fired in june for failing a drug test and his refusal to attend drug rehab.

what more can mcmAHON do? was he supposed to take umaga by the hand and force him into rehab against his will?

It is being reported that he has already been taken of life support. This in and of itself is unfortonate to hear. Whether you like him or not he was still a father and a husband. RIP and thoughts and prayers to the Fatu and A'noia families.

Fuck you JonD! That is why the "E" let him go in the first place. How can they help someone who doesn't want to help themselves. He violated the drug policy one too many times, so they had no choice. And in case you are as retarded as you are, yes the "E" does have a policy in place. Sure I feel bad for the big guy, but by you saying anyone who watches a show like WWE is supporting a company who lets their employees die is naive and ignorant on your part. At least they have a policy in place. What can you say about TNA? Fucking douche bag!

Hey JonD, shut the fuck up.

I guess you dont drink or smoke or drive a car. Because how could you buy a car when so many people die from car accidents. How could you support a company that puts out a product that kills so many people. Not to mention you would have to buy gas for your car and there is a war going on RIGHT NOW over oil. How could you purchase gas when so many young soldiers die every day.

Oh and then there is the fact that he is not an employee of the WWE. What with him being fired for his drug use/abuse.

____________________________________________________________

Umaga failed WWE's wellness policy twice and the second time, he refused to enter rehab and was fired. Sounds like they're doing plenty to stop it. They can't force someone to stop taking drugs, but this proves that they won't stand for it. Maybe do a little research next time because I found this info in 30 seconds from google.

JonD, the WWE has done exactly that. They have drugs tests, health checks the works - there have been suspensions and releases. In fact, I believe that Umaga was released for that very reason - not attending the rehab necessary to keep his job.
Also, he has been out of the WWE for about 6 months....hardly their fault if he's died now is it?
I hope he pulls through, but by the sounds of this, RIP Mr Fatu.

WTF are they supposed to do? They told him to go to rehab (which WWE would have paid for), he refused and then they released him. It's not "a company" it's the entire industry.

Damn. I was really hoping he'd be comin' back to the WWE after the Hulk Hogan tour. Even IF he manages to pull through, I sincerely beleive his wrestling days are over. But right now, I could care less about the wrestling.

My thoughts go to him and hoping he pulls through. And if he doesn't, then may he rest in peace.

He makes Houston is home. So do many other wrestlers.

Such a great big man.

I was about to partially echo the guy who referred to Umaga as a 'Samoan piece of shit', but then I read JohnD's comments; seriously dude, you really think Vince and the higher-ups in the WWE are sitting around Vince's office, 'you here Umaga's braindead?', 'really? that sucks. So this midget court thing...' Okay, so maybe with Crash Holly, that was probably the case, but it's ridiculous to insinuate that the deaths of people they've known for years aren't going to affect them, or that they are doing nothing about it.

It looks like Bobby Lashley was the one who broke the news, if indeed it's true, that he passed away. I hope he pulls through.

The news out of Houston is not good for Eddie Fatu aka Umaga.

I was informed by someone who has spoken to a Fatu family member that Eddie has been removed from life support and his condition is obviously grave. Unfortunately, one can expect more bad news to be released imminently.

Reportedly, Eddie had a massive heart attack while sleeping but those reports are not official. Eddie had just returned from a tour of Australia where he reportedly was, seemingly, healthy and doing well.

Eddie has a young family and a loving wife that really need everyone's prayers and support at this time.

This is a huge shock to me as I thought Eddie was doing well and had lost some weight over the past several months. Eddie was a natural and possessed amazing agility and quickness for such a large man. He always seemed to me to be a good hearted, sensitive guy. God Bless Eddie Fatu.

entertainmentandshowbiz.com is reporting that he has passed away. Another possible steroids related heart attack. First Eddie Guerrero dies on my fathers birthday, now Umaga dies on my mothers birthday. RIP Umaga not Umanga

Mr. Kennedy tweeted: "I'm very thankful to have had a private closed-door conversation with Ecki prior to our match a few days ago in Sydney. He insisted that we... go out and tear the house down. We both had something to prove that night and in my opinion: Mission Accomplished! Our thoughts and prayers... are with the entire Fatu family. Ecki absolutely adored his wife and was extremely proud of his children. I have so many amazing, funny, and... heartwarming (sometimes gut wrenching belly-laughing) memories."

This sucks. I was hoping there was a chance he could somehow pull through.

Doesn't sound good at all.. but I hope something happens to where he can recover from this.

Massive shocker, I hope against hope that some of the reports are exaggerated as he would be a big loss to the wrestling world and, most importantly, to his family and friends.

JonD

WWE released Umaga after he violated the Wellness policy for the second time. WWE PLEADED with him to get help. It was UMAGA who refused to get help so WWE released him.

So WWE caters to kids and now they are murderers. That is really not fair to say.

I really hope he makes a recovery.

I never liked Umanga as a character, EVER. Thought he was presented poorly, and was not nearly as much of a threat as they made him out to be. He came along around the time Joe hit the scene in TNA (not counting 3 Minute Warning). I just thought he was a bad idea and not a much better wrestler. That said, I don't want him to die, get well, Umanga.

It's reported and confirmed by Jim Ross that Umaga has been taken off life support which doesn't look good.

Eh, thanks for the handful of decent matches you were in, buddy. But I won't miss you when you're gone.

No sympathy, because unfortunately with wrestling these days you just have to assume, before hearing any details, that it was his stupid decisions that led to this.

oh shit dude, get well soon Umaga

Wow, how awful. Morally, I can not support a company that produces an enviroment that is killing so many people. Think about it next time you're watching an episode of Raw, you are supporting a company that sits by and lets its employees die, and does nothing to stop it, because trying to implement some measures to make it a more safe place to work might hurt their bottom line.

Posted By: JonD (Guest) on December 04, 2009 at 03:47 PM

Have you somehow managed to miss three years of wellness testing, or the fact that Umaga was FIRED when he refused to go to rehab? Or their generous offer of free rehab to anyone who used to work for them? WWE's hands are clean on this one. This was Umaga's personal choice.

This is what happens when you take drugs day in and day out with no regard for you or your family's welfare. I've got no sympathy for that fat, somoan piece of shit.
Posted By: Guest#0024 (Guest) on December 04, 2009 at 03:34 PM

My illiterate friend, I feel you are jumping to conclusions. We have no idea why he is dying, he may well have some hereditary condition. As for taking drugs without thinking about his or his family's welfare, that's where your argument falls apart - he took drugs TO SECURE his family's welfare, so he could continue wrestling without pain. Do you understand? I don't disagree that, should it prove to be drug-related (and it probably is, since he's had previous problems), that he deserves only a limited amount of sympathy for his actions, but your presumptuous and ignorant attitude towards it is totally unnecessary at this time.

Wrestling Observer is reporting that it is 'a matter of time' before Umaga dies. My condolences in advance go to his friends and family.

Like Offering Umaga to go to rehab, and he denied it so they released him.

Right WWE is horrible for trying to save his life before it was too late.

Dear Guest#0024,
You may not like Umaga, but calling him a fat and a piece of shit and wishing death upon a person, and by that alone makes you the piece of shit my friend.

JonD, people like you make me sick. WWE offered Umaga rehab after the second violation of the wellness policy, and he didn't take it. He should've, or this would not be happening right now. My thoughts and prayers to Umaga, but to try to blame this on WWE is disgusting, and you sir, are a pitiful human being.

Rest in peace Umaga. Im so sad to hear youre gone. My heart goes out to your family and friends. My favorite memory of you is how you took John Cena to the limit in your two PPV matches with him. You deserved a better ending than this. But at least now youre home and at peace. Will miss you more than words can say Umaga. RIP Eddie aka Umaga.
