ROH News: December 8th Newswire
Posted by Larry Csonka on 12.31.1969

From ROHWrestling.com:

- Fans left the Frontier Fieldhouse in Chicago in shock as last Saturday's ROH World Championship Steel Cage match between Austin Aries and Colt Cabana came to a conclusion under the most unexpected of circumstances. As the two combatants went at it for near 30 minutes, both losing blood, it appeared that Cabana finally had Aries reeling. After bouncing "A-Double" pillar-to-post and off of the sides of the steel mesh, Cabana had rendered the champion trapped between the ring ropes and the corner supports of the cage. With the crowd on its feet, Cabana prepared to deliver his signature running posterior attack, and took to flight. What happened next no one expected. As Cabana plowed into Aries, the champion was driven into the steel. The cheers of the crowd quickly turned to awe as the cage structure gave way, with Aries shooting through the side of the mesh, propelling him off the ringside table and chairs, and leaving his body in a heap on the ringside floor near the guard rails. Referee Todd Sinclair and Cabana couldn't believe what they had just seen, and ROH on HDNet Executive Producer Jim Cornette and President Cary Silkin rushed the scene. Sinclair declared that Aries, being the first to "escape" the cage, was the winner of the match, and as was stipulated before the match, this means that Colt Cabana will NEVER receive another ROH World Title match in Chicago.

- With Aries' stunning victory in Chicago, 2009 only holds one more scheduled title defense for "the greatest man that ever lived". And all roads lead to New York City for "Final Battle 2009". One year in the making, it will be Tyler Black versus Austin Aries with the World Title on the line. For an incredible video lead in to this matchup, check out http://www.you-tube.com/watch?v=Sq_e-7lfsy0. Black has without question had "ups and downs" in 2009. But, since his return back to action from Aries' fireball attack on HDNet, Black has been a force going undefeated. And on December 19th, he has a chance to right all of the wrongs, to make Austin Aries pay for what he's done, and to finally live up to the potential that every fan of ROH has seen in him from the beginning. Can Black become World Champion at Final Battle, or will Austin Aries once-and-for-all prove that he's as great as he's been telling everybody? Select tickets for the biggest event of ROH's year still remain at www.rohwrestling.com and if you can't be in New York, then be with us LIVE on iPPV at www.gofightlive.tv!

- Eddie Kingston has been on record as saying he wants another shot at Chris Hero. F
