Various News: Colt Cabana Interview, WWE The Music Vol. 9 Gets Slammed, ROH Video, More
Posted by Larry Csonka on 12.22.2009

- AVClub has listed the "WWE The Music Vol. 9" CD as part of their "least essential albums" list. Here is what they said about the CD:

"What could be less necessary than an album of wrestlers singing? How about a collection of wrestlers' walk-on music? Yet Voices is the ninth collection of themes written by WWE house composer Jim Johnston. A league veteran since the 1980s, Johnston has a way with generating crowd-pumping bangers that sound great against the roar of an audience in the 30 seconds or so needed for the WWE's slabs of beef to reach the ring. But as an album, Voices offers little but one clangy, repetitive ProTools anthem after another. Even Dice Raw and Punjabi MC do little to break up the grind. It's the perfect soundtrack to accompany kids injuring themselves while bodyslamming off the couch, but little else."

- Bower and "The Sweet Nasty" Chris Cause from Wheelhouse Radio! welcomed COLT CABANA from RING OF HONOR to the show on December 21st! We talk with COLT about everything going on with him in ROH, his career in wrestling including some nasty INJURIES that he has had over the years, his new career in COMEDY and more! You can download the Podcast here.

- ROH has released the following video, hyping next week's Best of ROH on HDNet 2009 show:

That so-called "review" smacks of some nerdy music writer who detests wrestling and saw his review as another chance to knock a form of entertainment he doesn't get, as opposed to actually writing about the music itself.

I've written music reviews before, so I don't say that as a slam against all music writers....just ones who don't really stay on-topic.

Haha, that bit about the CD is great.

Damn, someone knows how to make a great video.

And cue all the butthurt wrestling fans who now have an axe to grind with The Onion in 3...2...1

Newsflash, kids - they do this list every year in which they ridicule a whole bunch of different releases from all manner of people. And, for the record, I happen to think that this is the least essential WWe disc since the last time they tried to convert themes to actual songs.

The reviewer is right. Wrestling themes have sucked by and large since the turn of the century. Remember the good old says of Stone Cold's glass shatter, "If you smell what The Rock is cooking", and Real American? The only decent theme songs in WWE are for the veterans. WWE hasn't produced a good theme since Evolution, which was itself overrated.

The writer does sound a bit elitist (but most music critics are), but he does have a point. Voices was the only good song on that CD, and the rest, with R-Truth's atrocious atempts at "rapping" were meh.

I can't be the only one that questions the point in releasing a video to hype the 'Best of ROH' that focuses solely on a guy that now works for a rival?

Great video (aided by the perfect song choice) aside, it doesn't exactly sell the product or the company. 'Look at how great an edited video can make a guy that was out injured half the time look!'... perhaps the same approach but with the actual roster may have worked better?

And, one last negative-IWC point, it's kinda saddening a 6-minute YouTube video can look better produced than every single PPV/DVD effort from the company in its whole existence combined, including the most recent aired only days earlier...

That said, ROH is better than people who don't watch it give it credit for. Even if most of their fans are like 'vintage!' ECW fans in thinking they actually mean something to this world...

Damn that Nigel/Desmond video is the shit.....

WWF The Music Volume 3 kicked ass. It had Undertaker's symphony theme, Stone Cold's theme, Rock's old "Do You Smell What The Rock is Cookin'?" theme, Kane's old theme, DX's old theme, Ken Shamrock's badass theme...that CD was awesome. Volume 4 was okay too, if only for everybody's favorite entrance music, Ass Man.

But yeah, other than those two and Full Metal, they all suck.

Is that Desmond Wolfe in the video? I don't watch ROH.

@Chungles, For the record no one in ROH actually produced its a guy who makes hype videos for ROH on his YT channel ThatWrestlingShow
